  1. Not much of Jun in this episode (sigh), but Ha Yeong and Seung Gi are very cute. They look cool when they are not wearing school uniforms.

  2. It looks like this episode is set in late summer/autumn 2021. So Jun has already turned 19. He’s waiting for winter so that he can be done with his exams.

Director is the man of the episode! Even his pyjamas are cute. 🤣 It’s so funny how he’s channeling all his payment for his work to get close to Ms Jin. And the way he’s behaving like Doc’s wife, lol!

It looks like DDSSLLS could be Jun, with grandpa helping him to buy the piano (either planned or unplanned between them). It can’t be that grandpa is DDSSLLS, and Doc has denied it. So that leaves Jun. Then who is the well-dressed guy?

As expected the show trolled us regarding Secretary Moon, and he’s a good guy. But his story about losing his hp at sea doesn’t seem to tally: Rara says someone picks up when she calls the number. Is this the extra phone in the stalker’s office? Wonder if they will flip his story later.

Also, Doc buying over the Grandpa’s buildings, is he reconciling with, and borrowing money from his ex to pay for the buildings? Or is Jun helping doc by making a deal with his mum to break up with Rara so he can borrow money? Speaking of which, the teaser seems to show another breakup sigh. Looks like they will parallel Grandpa’s story closely, with 2 periods of separation. 3 Eps left and they have introduced another love triangle, and there are still so many loose ends to tie up, I wonder if this will wrap up well!

  3. It’s possible that my prediction that Mr. Kim is DDSSLLS (from Ep 8 and 9 Open Thread, Oct. 29) is correct—but it doesn’t feel 100% valid.

    Now we know:
    1. Dr. Cha denied being DDSSLLS and even helped hire someone to track down the buyer of Ra Ra’s piano so she could find him.
    2. The secondhand piano store owner said that the piano was purchased by Mr. Kim.
    3. There is still money in Jun’s tin can, which I think means he probably didn’t buy the piano, using Mr. Kim as the go-between, because he had no other money (or did he borrow money from Mr. Kim?).

(I had assumed the camera lingering on the plant in the beauty shop and the little bit about Jun teaching him about social media might have been clues. From what I’ve seen from this screenwriter [in Shopaholic Louis], every stray end gets addressed eventually, even if they seem throwaway at the time–which means we should still find out who washed up on shore and, more importantly, why we needed to know that…).

But as @JT7 pointed out at the time, the first message from DDSSLLS sounded like it was from a young person, not from a much older man.

If DDSSLLS is Mr. Kim (and I’m still doubtful), I’m wondering if the son from Seoul could be the connection between Mr. Kim and Ra Ra’s dad. I like that this script—at Episode 13—still keeps the viewers guessing!

  4. I wondered about Secretary/actor Moon. But I don’t see any reason for him to lie about his life as an actor when it’s right there. He may have thought his phone was lost but it may have been stolen or the number reassigned. But then again I may be naive.😊 I would like RaRa to get her fortune back if it still exists.

Who is the girl in the jewellery shop? She no longer seems like a blind date (my assumption last week) but like someone Jun knows from pre-RaRa days. She seems to have some claim on him.

This is possibly a very far-fetched theory: I think it’s possible that Mr Kim bought the piano but signed it as Ddsslls even though he isn’t the real ddsslls, borrowing the identity as it were. Who else was at the graduation concert besides Doc, Jun, Jun’s friend, Jun’s friend’s sister (also RaRa’s friend)? Or have others used the ddsslls name to support RaRa anonymously?.

  5. I have the same questions like you ladies.

How come Doc Cha can afford a very expensive landmark as the TWD ahjumma’s said? I thought he didn’t get any money from his divorce.

Whose that girl that Jun drops everything for and totally lies that he’s just not into Rara anymore? 🙍🏻‍♀️

I’m going for Jun to be DDSSLLS because he had that 👀 when Rara told him on the phone that she finally discovered that it was Grandpa Kim whose DDSSLLS.

Secretary should have said at least that everything is settled with the debts that the company owed before? That was the reason he told Rara to move away right? But he does look like a nice legit person.

  6. The only problem I have with Jun being Ddsslls is he seemed so surprised when he first saw RaRa in Eunpo. He had fibbed about his age at the wedding because he never thought he would see her again. But, yes, other things point to him, like his ** reaction that @agdr03 points out above and his immense surprise back when the piano arrived from ‘Ddsslls’.

I thought that the dead man in the water was the thief that the stalker killed, according to the police. Is there still a mystery about him?

I don’t know about the laws in Korea but it seems to me that Mr Kim’s son is acting very quickly to liquidate the old man’s assets before he comes out of his coma. Unless he has a power of attorney already.

  7. Thanks @Fern, you’ve addressed the question I forgot about. Grandpa Kim is in hospital and the son decides to sell his property. It is definitely questionable.

True, when Jun lied to Rara about his age because he thought it was the last time he’d see her.

Maybe he thought he’d just put it out there for Rara to see? The message to come to Eunpo. Or could he have taken over his bestie’s SNS (?) account? 🤷🏻‍♀️

  8. Ah, @agdr03, the bestie’s account… but Jun doesn’t strike me as being someone who spends a lot of time on SNS, but he’s a kid so who knows? Maybe an impulse, never thinking she would actually show up?

Wouldn’t it be strange if Ddsslls wasn’t a man? Ddsslls is generous and wanted to meet, but I never had the impression necessarily about dating or romance. —But early posters are probably right that it would be one of the men at the observation tower. What if it were something provided for in her dad’s will?

  9. I am alarmed by Jun’s behavior in Episode 14. Please, writer, don’t give him a terminal illness!

  10. spoilers please, @ snow flower. 🙂 Is he behaving erratically? unlike him? oddly?

  11. @Fern re: the dead man in the water (I’m writing this before I have watched episode 14). The thing that is unresolved, I thought, is that Ra Ra had seen him in a dream. So I wonder what her relation is to her. (Or was she seeing the stalker’s shoes and watch in that dream–I’m actually a little confused here). In this screenwriter’s previous show (SL), any little thing that came up at the beginning was thoroughly addressed by the end, so I’m assuming they will swing back to the dead man and/or the stalker to clear up any loose ends.

BTW why do so many people think that Dr. Cha is terminally sick? I thought he was just suffering from burnout–the pillbox contained anti-depressants, sleeping pills, and vitamins (like he said). Has there been any other indication of this?

  12. Ra Ra saw Jun with another girl. Then Jun tol RaRa that he did not like her anymore and they should break up. He looked miserable too.
At the end of the episode, RaRa went to the airport to pick up Mrs. Gong, the piano teacher. (She is back! Yay!) At the airport she saw Jun with the same girl. He had glasses on and was holding airplane tickets. He ignored RaRa while still looking miserable.
At least Dr. Cha is OK. His pills turned out to be just vitamins, much to the relief of his ex-wife.

  13. @BethB I had assumed the plant gift from grandpa, the scenes of him learning how to use social media, or even him shopping for a suit before the meeting with DDSSLLS were just red herrings planted to confuse us. I agree that the writer is probably going to tie up the dead body and mystery of the well dressed man and his watch later on. The watch doesn’t seem to be the stalker’s, stalker wears a silver watch, we only have Director’s account that the watch belonged to the stalker and even that story didn’t make sense. Like you said, this writer has been excellent at keeping many options open and making us guess! I think Dr Cha’s pillbox was also another distractor that was planted in, the show kept focusing on him taking a fistful of pills and his nurse and Rara’s ex made allusions to him being terminally ill.

@agdr you have a point it might be an account set up by Ji hun and taken over by Jun. But all the messages would have been from Jun. @Fern, if it was Jun, his shock at seeing Rara in Eunpo might not have been from her presence there but her condition? He did mention to her that he was frantic upon seeing her in the accident because it had reminded him of Ji hun’s accident.

My guess is that DDSSLLS is Jun, and he might have let slip about this to grandpa. And grandpa, wanting to help Jun and Rara, bought the piano without Jun’s knowledge, and signed off as DDSSLLS. This would explain why Jun was surprised at the gift of the piano? Also, I was wondering about the final few messages that Rara sent to DDSSLLS after she broke up with him. Those sounded too personal to be written a comments under a post, which could be read by anyone. Were they sent via DM? If so, and if Jun was DDSSLLS, he would have read all of them, and would have seen Rara’s inner turmoil at breaking up with him. This might explain why he was able to accept her breaking up with him so easily. Also, if Jun is forced to break up with Rara, this account would be his only means of connecting with her in the future.

  14. The title of Episode 14, “Una furtiva lagrima” refers to a famous aria for a tenor from Donizzetti’s opera Elisir d’amore (Love Elixir). The plot revolves around a poor peasant who is in love with a rich woman. In desperation he buys love potion from a traveling quack (which is just red wine). Believing in the effect of the potion, our protagonist starts ignoring his crush, and the lady actually realizes that she does love him after all. There is a fake wedding and misunderstanding in the opera too. Of course, it all ends well. The rich lady declares her love, and the hero finds out that he has inherited a lot of land and money from his uncle, so he is rich too!

  15. Ep 14:
Going by the teasers for Ep 15, it looks like my guess was right. Jun bought the buildings, but made Doc look like he bought them. I am assuming he did so to protect the livelihoods of the folks he cares about, but he seems to be going down the road of noble idiocy to do it. GRRR. Maybe the ep purposely left out details again to troll us, but he’s obviously been forced to break up with Rara, and isn’t being upfront with her about the reasons why. I get it that he might have to put up a front to keep to his side of the bargain, but can’t he at least write Rara a letter explaining what is happening so it is less bewildering and painful for her? Also, I wonder if all the Eunpo folk could come up with money if they tried harder? Rara could have sold her car (AGAIN), and they could do a fund-raising concert? The show did keep emphasising how expensive the land was though, sigh.

It looked like Jun managed to convince his mum to help out with the money initially, but later had his arm twisted into breaking up with Rara in order to save the buildings. He had bought the rings to propose, but things only went downhill later, when the girl drugged (??!?) him and prevented him from meeting Rara. My guess is the girl reported to mum about the rings and the parents decided to force him to end the relationship. Jun had wrongly assumed director was hired by mum to keep tabs on him, so he probably had to pretend he was dating the girl, furthering the misunderstanding. I doubt that this “relationship” is going to be continued though, since she’s studying overseas and only came back for a visit, and we see Jun sending her off at the airport.

The lyrics of Una Furtiva Lagrima:
    A single secret tear
    from her eye did spring:
as if she envied all the youths
    that laughingly passed her by.
What more searching need I do?
What more searching need I do?
She loves me! Yes, she loves me, I see it. I see it.
For just an instant the beating
of her beautiful heart I could feel!
As if my sighs were hers,
    and her sighs were mine!
The beating, the beating of her heart I could feel,
to merge my sighs with hers…
    Heavens! Yes, I could die!
I could ask for nothing more, nothing more.
Oh, heavens! Yes, I could, I could die!
I could ask for nothing more, nothing more.
Yes, I could die! Yes, I could die of love.

Lots of secret tears being shed in this episode due to misunderstandings:
    – Doc’s ex-wife sheds a tear of relief upon finding out that Doc’s pills were just vitamins and he is not terminally ill.
    – Jun’s single tear in the epilogue after he breaks up with Rara. And all those tears in bed. 🙁 (And mum looks like she may have shed a tear or two seeing Jun cry.)
    – Ms Jin crying after HY has a fight with her client and storms off. She learns later how HY always fights to defend her, even though she may seem to only quarrel with her mum at home.
    – And of course Rara. Poor Rara. 🙁 (Now she is the one who’s saying all the “shirendae”s.)

I loved SK’s declaration to HY, and the way the two manipulated Director into doing investigative work was funny! Ms Jin’s story was heart-breaking and heart-warming at the same time. I love how the show manages to flesh out the side characters without making the show draggy or scattered!

  16. Who is Gu Seong-Jun, HY’s first crush? The boy who transferred from Seoul in the summer of 3rd grade. The lanky kid with pale skin. Any guesses? 😉

  17. Jun needs to give that tea cup and saucer back.

14 was difficult to watch. Jun walking by RaRa like she never existed in the airport was heartbreaking.

  18. @John L, I agree, the latter part was difficult to watch. I would have thought that Jun could have figured out a way to simulate a friendship with the girl while communicating to RaRa that he was doing that for his parents. Or, if he felt it was better to have a clean break, why say he didn’t like her when he could have said something honest and realistic like, ‘It’s too difficult for me because of my family situation?’

Ah, that girl putting sedatives into the coffee. Dirty deed. I’m surprised that Jun’s mother approved, although it’s not clear she knew about it.

  19. Sigh. I think Jun made a deal with his Dad for the land and buildings because he went to his office in the hospital.

I did not like that girl, lucky she went already.

I wished too that Jun used something else as an excuse to break up with Rara. Saying ‘I just don’t like you anymore’ is such a big fat lie, everyone knew it too. 😏 I’d like him to give back the cup and saucer too so Rara can have her closure.

HY and SG is so cute together. SG must have tons and tons of pictures and videos of HP. 😁

@Fern, Jun is the guy from third grade? 🤔

So happy that Ms Gong is back. Rara will be fine with her and the Eunpo family. I hope Grandpa Kim wakes up too in the next episode.
