Sisyphus: Easter Bananas, part 2

Remember when I made a partial list of the bloopers and Easter bananas?

Like, the multiple bananas in Episode 2, the stand fan suddenly appearing in Episode 4,

the lotto ticket in Episode 4, the ceramic prop showing up in Episode 6, the different purses of Seohae in Episode 7, and the different wedding photos in Episode 8.

Here’s the link: Sisyphus: Bloopers or Easter Bananas

I believe I found the reason for the props changing. The props change are meant to signify that the future is changing and being remade.

In Episode 13, we saw it again when Taesul and Seohae visited the artist Seo Gilbok’s house. When Taesul knocked on the door, Seo Gilbok looked at the door. Pay attention to the tall steel water container.

Seo Gilbok walked past it to open the door.

It was still there when Seohae burst into the room.

Seohae fired a shot and immediately Seo Gilbok got down on his knees to apologize.

Then Seohae felt dizzy — which I assumed was due to the time paradox. (This was just like when she suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness at Jaesun’s restaurant.) She had a “premonition” of the future, or a déjà vu.

Did you notice that the room changed?

This was how the room looked like when they rushed in.

This was the room after Seohae felt faint and Taesul took the gun from her. Sigma was about to call them up. Spot the differences?

There are at least 10 differences. If you want to look for them yourself, don’t scroll down. I’ll post another screenshot with the checkmarks at the end of this post. 🙂

Shortly after, Mr. Park and Bingbing gate-crashed their little party to deliver a package from the future for Seohae. Look at the water bottle at the top of the dresser. A water kettle has replaced it.

Then, Seohae started shooting. She didn’t shoot SGB.

SGB ran out, shoving Mr. Park out of the way. Mr. Park bumped Bingbing who fell into what looked like a clothes hamper. Seohae quickly chased after SGB. Taesul was getting up.

Taesul got up to follow Seohae. But where did Mr. Park go? He’s gone. And Bingbing was standing away from the clothes hamper.

When Taesul returned to the room, he noticed nothing odd.

But we should have. 🙂

********************************

Here’s my answer key. If I missed a few things, just add them.

  1. Big painting moved behind the easel with Taesul’s portrait
  2. Table with tin can with paint brushes moved
  3. Pink towel draped on chair
  4. Different bottle on center table
  5. Blanket spread out on couch
  6. Small rectangular table moved
  7. Small bottle replaced with bigger white bottle
  8. Rope moved from under table
  9. Something yellow wrapped in paper appeared on table
  10. Bust facing different direction
  11. Books, paint set on table rearranged

  1. This is an eye-opener, literally! I’m looking at this on my phone and have been zooming in and out. Great post and immense attention to detail as usual, @PM3. The props differences support the incremental changes that are happening to the characters in the multiple time loops. I’m becoming more and more optimistic that we will get a happy ending!

  2. Thanks, Janey.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a happy ending for our couple. It would be demoralizing if young Seohae had to go on forever with her nightmares of nuclear Holocaust.

Thanks @pkml3. What fun. I love spot the difference, but I didn’t go into the arrangement of the objects. However I did notice 10 things. So together with your list, there’s more than 11.

    1) The rope moved (I feel it may have moved more than once)
    2) The corner of the mattress was covered / uncovered.
    3) The pillow moved.
    4) There were more items on the coffee table like cans and another bottle that disappeared.
    5) Items on the desk like a white bowl that was not there / was there.
    6) Container of paintbrushes on the small table on the left disappeared.
    7) Towel/cloth on the chair moved.
    8) There was a different painting next to the portrait of Tae Sul on the left.
    9) The trolley on the left disappeared
    10) The square stool shifted position and disappeared.

I went to check on the bust… not able to see that it faces a different direction.

Immediately after SH felt faint, there was still no change. I didn’t bother to circle the rope as it’s obvious. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tXZMHWRdlx64riw6OslnW9yidm6wetgP/view?usp=sharing

The room changed a bit after.

    Square stool:
    1) was aligned to our view/frame at first
    2) after the dizzy spell it was crooked and further from us
    3) after Park comes and threatens to shoot, the square stool disappears. Below is the scene with Park and without the stool.

One very nice shot – I like this camerawork. Gil Bok paints so many portraits of Tae Sul and other faces. This shot has his own face in reflection. I like how we see rectangles: fridge, cupboards, window, door, mirror, door … and Gil Bok looking apprehensive in the mirror. This is like a self portrait of Gil Bok confronted by doors, window and mirror… a chance to escape or a chance to face himself.

I forgot to give the link to the frame or scene I was talking about. Here it is:

Another thing I forgot to mention, our past discussions on whether the photo without and then with the words written behind, and maybe even the bunker door without and with the keypad entry all are clarified by this ‘certainty’ that with the merging of time loops (where the same future people turn up in the places they did before) we get new realities or rather realities with differences which even the main protagonists are not aware of. And we, viewers, unless we are paying attention (it was hard, I had to enlarge and freeze frame over and over and do screenshots!!!)

Well, it’s a relief that the props people are the opposite of being lax, they are really on the ball! I applaud them for their fantastic eye to detail. The amount of paraphernalia in TSul’s home and even in Gil Bok’s small unit is amazing!

  6. The metal bottle with the yellow rim is gone!
The sheets on the bed are also in a different position.
I would have to see this scene again.
    But it is convincing.

  7. Last scene of the drama : the yellow metal bottle is here !
Sigma put on sunglass, the metal bottle look like not here anymore.
