Thanks @pkml3 and thanks to @dramaism for the lovely gifs. The first 3 gif-fed occasions were when they were on the same page, with regards to their love for each other, but it was a love outside the fuller context of DK’s real life, lived with many other loved ones. It was ideal but not something that could be sustained.

The last 3 gifs are when they have the chance to do-over if they wish, and we find that they naturally gravitate towards each other anyway, even if it’s in bickering. I actually like that now we get the ‘poor sweet girl’ who will melt the heart of the ‘tsundere male’ trope, this late in the show.

We’ve been given the backstory that we needed, and now we only need to watch the OTP move forward with their push-and-pull. There’s of course still that little matter of DK dying in the midst of all this, but in a fantasy, death does not have to mean the end. 😉

  2. Hope we are Done with Do-overs and move on to Doom(sday) or Destiny. Jeez, Too many “Dees”. Hahaha! Let’s see how this gets wrapped up.

  3. Hope we are Done with Do-overs and move on to either Doom(sday) or Destiny. Jeez, too many “Dees”. Hahaha! I’m having too much fun. Let’s see how things will wrap up in the last 2 weeks.

  4. Kalimera Everyone!

Let us enjoy the new episodes! Get your handkerchieves with you!

Brand New Song is out! It focuses on our Second Triangle!

    Sondia – This Is Love

  5. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Dear Darlings @Janey and @Cleo and anyone else who does not mind being called ‘darling’ LOL, commenting adds another 100% fun to this show so I’m enjoying it 200%, hankies, tissues and all! LOL.
    ♡( ૢ⁼̴̤̆ ꇴ ⁼̴̤̆ ૢ)~ෆ♡

Yeah @Janey, in a Dee world: let’s get on with doom and death, followed by delightful denouement, or we’ll just be a dismal bunch. Heheheh!
    ʅ(◔౪◔ʅ)三(ʃ◔౪◔)ʃ ʅ(◔౪◔ʅ)三(ʃ◔౪◔)ʃ

Thanks @Cleo for the song link. Even the 2nd leads’ song sounds a bit doleful. We need some upbeat music with this gloom and doom show. Maybe it’s because we have double doom-gloom couples who have yet to confirm their attachments.

I suddenly had another idea for a motif for the t-shirt. Maybe a bouquet of yellow tulips. However, it just occurred to me that since the love will not be unrequited, we should change the flowers to roses or something else, maybe!! I wonder what kind of flower will bloom in GD’s pot!! Yeah, even the pot with a flower will make a good t-shirt motif!

    ✿♥‿♥✿ ╰(✿´⌣`✿)╯♡ ✿♥‿♥✿ ╰(✿´⌣`✿)╯♡

  6. Hey my lovely @GB,

I am okay with the “darling” term of endearment !

Yes the song is a bit sad, isn’t it? Whenever happens to the second triangle, someone will get hurt in the process.

As for the motif for the t-shirt! I didn’t have time during the weekend to do what I wanted to do, as I have told you, so bear with me!

I agree with you about the tulips. Maybe we should use that flower in that GD’s pot instead?

  7. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL @Cleo, it’s all in fun, so no hurry and no stress. If we go for the flower and flower pot, then we may have to wait to see what blooms. Or we could just go with a generic flower in a pot. It will be hard to differentiate one flower from another if it’s just a round bunch of petals.

Tulips have the advantage of having a very definite and recognisable shape, but we prefer a flower that denotes a two-way love. 😉

  8. Darling @GB and @Cleo – returning the endearment to you lovely ladies. It’s D day so it’s also appropriate, isn’t it? Thanks for being part of the DAYS support group. We are such a delightful bunch despite the doom and gloom. We even have tshirts to show for it. LOL!!! Cheers and have a great start of the week.

  9. Darling @Janey and @GB,

Yes, we are such a delightful bunch despite the doom and gloom!
    Cheers to all of you!

    Happy Summer Solstice too!

  10. Hi ladies, quick question before the new episode: how do you see the timeline in the show so far? What i mean is that in the show we see events at daytime, followed by night, followed by morning etc. So if watching in order, it feels like we see every day, but at most accumulaye 2 weeks that way. But we know we got through almost 2 months by reset point. Where do you think the extra days were? I.e. if we plot episodes 2-11, what is your sense on when more days then shown should be inserted?

  11. Hey @vasilisa,

I think your question is valid. I have understood from the very beginnin, that they show us the important incidents that matter.

If you go back in your life, you will not remember the endless days of work.etc.
You will remember though, that you met this handsome guy – let’s say, if you had a date, if he gave you flowers, if he kissed you and so on. That you best friend fell in love, or had a fight and broke up.

Incidents that are remarkable to remember. So, we get slices of life and not the exact representation day per day of those 2 months. I hope that helped!

  12. Thanks @cleo! I completely agree, I’m just trying to build out the reasonable pace for myself 🙂 I feel like the show didn’t give enough clues as to where there were longer gaps, where shorter, so having to invent them for myself. Like how long were they strangers, how long friends, how long couple, lol… maybe if they did the counter at the end of every episode. 😁 At least now we know a month is left. But there was a portion of the show where I literally had no sense of time, and suddenly, bang, 50 days, let the backtracking calculations begin 🤣🤣

  13. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @vasilisa @Cleo
While I agree with @Cleo that not every day is ‘logged’ in the show, I decided I wanted a rough guide about how many days each episode covers. Episode 1-9 covered 50 days. That would make it approximately 5.5 days per episode.

Now we have to squeeze the remaining 50 days into 7 episodes, so that’s even more difficult (read impossible)!!

I did a FFD of episodes 10, 11 and 12 and each episode seems to encompass 3 days, with 3 or 4 nights in between. So we always miss 2.5 days per episode!!! And I don’t know where they are supposed to be slotted.

I do recall that for some shows, a whole season passes in the course of 16 episodes (that’s also around 90-100 days), so it’s a common thing in kdramas, I believe.

  14. @Cleo, thank you for the music video and the heads up about hankies. We’ll see how it goes this evening, right?

  15. Hey @Fern!

Of course we will see. If she dublicates Goblin, then Episode 13 will be the sad one. *sighs*

I do hope you are okay!

  16. @GB and @vasilisa Annyeong Haseyo again!

Wow @GB! I wasn’t into the logistics of DAYS.
I accepted the slice of life and focused on the matters at hand.
    Still, you deserve congratz!

  17. I will be fine, @Cleopatra, thanks. It’s a bit chilly here and very rainy, so I’m going to eat some chocolate and something with hot peppers to cheer myself up.

@Growing Beautifully, in this region, people address each other as “Lovely” instead of “Darling” or “Dear”. It happened to me today at the optometrist and at the hardware store. “Here you are, Lovely.” It is also often used to describe really pleasant personalities rather than looks. Oh, him – he’s lovely, isn’t he?
    So, until later, Lovelies!

  18. Hello darlings and lovelies!!! Happy Monday from this side of the world. Can I send some heat wave to where you are @Fern?

Great question @Vasilisa on the timeline. I wish the show will do another D-xx like they did on the D-50 with big letters!
Thanks @GB for your timeline study. Much appreciated. Thinking of a ticking clock and do-overs are making me antsy. Let’s hope we go linear from this episode on.

  19. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

My Lovelies and Darlings! I’ve just watched Ep 13 raw, after happily spoiling myself on the TVN short cuts of the episode.

    1) sorry to crow, but I can’t resist saying that I called it first, when I said Cha must have liked NJN from the start.
    2) this ep was not that sad but I expect tomorrow’s might be.
    3) the best crier in this show so far is Auntie. She only has to make that face that’s about to dissolve into tears, and I start to tear up too!!

Oh, and I liked the episode a lot for the many OTP moments, and the 2nd leads were not forgotten and there were funny moments too.

Now to wait for the subs! ╰(✿´⌣`✿)╯♡

  20. @GB re ‘this ep was not that sad…’ -> is it normal that that scares me more than reassures me? LOL. If there is one thing I’ve learned in my KDrama watching career, is that if they give us a happy episode they are bound to crush us with a boulder the very next… (‘W’, I’m looking at you…)

  21. Hello my lovelies and darlings!

I was thinking that you should learn a greek endearment from my part of the world.
Αγαπημένη / agapimeni / the immediate translation is beloved /dearest / darling.
But it has to do with agape / love / sara.
So, I could call you: Αγαπημένες / agapimenes (plural)

@Fern! I do hope the chocolate made you feel better. Over here the weather is humid and it seems that it is going to rain but not not really.

@Janey Happy Monday to you too!

@GB, I got that spoiler myself and I have to say that the song that we’ve been waiting for, i.e. Seo In Guk’s is amazing!

It was on Episode’s 14 preview! *sighs* They left the best song to spoil us in the end.

Yes, @vasilisa, Episode 14 is going to be sad. The thing is we have more 2 episodes to wrap this beauty up!

“W” is one of my favorites and you should also talk about it with the “W” expertise, which is @WEnchanteur!

Ladies, I am so happy that we are together in this DAYS community!
My Mondays and Tuesdays won’t be same for a while. Do you feel the same?

  22. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Actually I’m the same @vasilisa. Just before a goodbye, the person who’s going to leave will make a beautiful memory. Usually when nice things happen to a good guy second lead, I expect that he’ll be dead by the end of the episode LOL.

In this case, however, the preview did look like it might be sadder, … I’m not sure that this episode was set up to be all that sweet, before show does a dive over the cliff. In other words, I expect a lot more sweet moments before it goes downhill… but I may be wrong.

  23. @GB. I’m preparing tissue boxes and comfort ice cream to deal with the inevitable heartbreak…

@cleo, absolutely! I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve realized I’m not waiting for weekends, but for Mondays!!! It’s going to be so hard to go back to normal work-weekend expectations after this…

  24. Dear @Janey. Not sure about a heat wave. We had one recently: the temperature got up to 80.5F/27C here last week and a large portion of the population had weather shock. It’s 55/13 and raining so most are back in their comfort zone and sleeping back under duvets as is only right. 😆

I had faux Mexican food with a lot of Cholula to lift my mood and a choccy bicci. I feel better and am ready for Doom after walking dogs.

  25. Hello agapimenes! ❤️

@Fern – California is going through a heat wave right now. So I was alluding to sending you some warm weather, not in my powers though! LOL!!! I would love some summer rains. We need it.

  26. Kalispera agapimenes!

We’ve got a glimpse of the flower today!

    @GB already posted some things.

I am going to post my thoughts tomorrow.

I have this feeling that our Myul Mang will die instead of DK…

@Vasilisa ottoke? What are we going to do next?

    Sending to all virtual hugs!

  27. @Janey, I hope that it lets up soon. The fires last year were horrendous.

Kalinichta, @Cleopatra.We’ll find out tomorrow. I don’t know where the flower pot was located.

How great was that bit where the garden came back to life?!

I liked Ji-na’s returned kiss. After 10 years. Cha was waiting for her like she had waited for Hyun Kyu. “Limit your regrets to me. Your regrettable action could destroy me.” I have to think about this a bit over night. Do you think this could be linked to Doom’s reaction to DK’s decision that she made without consulting him?

I’m glad that they got their memories back. Why were there photos on Doom’s phone but not on DK’s?

The hair scenes were so sad. I was half expecting Doom to show up and get the job of cutting her hair.

  28. Ep13 – I’m loving the 2nd pair interactions. Mr Cha’s lines are delivered like poetry (the voice helped, too). I have no time to transcribe the exchange but his 2nd utterance of “from the beginning” with a small hint of a smile is making me swoon. Hah! His dialogue with his father was also revealing – it’s a comparison of him and Lee.

We get the back story of why Cha had to take drastic measures 10 years ago. Not saying it was right for him to kiss her but Lee was an awful person to let NJN wait for him every day for weeks!

Now it’s NJN’s turn to kiss Cha. I like that he controlled himself knowing she is drunk. Brownie points for that and tucking her safely at home.

Our OTP has some comedic moments with Doom appearing in multiple roles as hospital staff. Some do-overs happened in her dreams like when she was in MM’s house just like the first time as well as in the garden. They finally remember with a rewind sequence. But DG is gone and where is the plant pot???

  29. Kalimera Agapimenes!

I am leaving this here, although it doesn’t have english subs yet!

SIG’ greetings for his brand new song “Distant Fate” about DAYS!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp6RMRr__cQ

@Fern & @Janey, I am planning to transcribe how Viki subbers translated Cha’s lines because I got a different translation again!

  30. Kalimera and thank you, Cleopatra for the song and the transcription.

  31. @Janey, yes, Cha’s delivery of his lines is swoony. What an interesting actor!

Thank goodness for the backstory of the kiss. Cha still overstepped, but I see why now.

Cha said that Hyun Kyu went overseas and only stayed for a few months. Hyun Kyu said that he was injured overseas. It sounds like he returned to Korea but just didn’t contact any of his friends for about 9 years? He said he returned because of Ji-an, though. How does that add up? Does anyone else wonder about Hyun Kyu’s mental health? It almost seems to me that he has some chronic depression or a fear of success. I don’t know how else to describe it.

Cha’s father said that Hyun Kyu is competitive. I would agree, but perhaps not to the point of winning. Losing over and over at high levels of sport and academic failure would take a mental toll. He said that running a cafe looks cool, but I don’t think his heart is in it.

  32. Kalimera my lovelies!

Last night’s episode was amazing for several moments, but I have to give my salute to Seo In Guk for his stellar performance.

He played so well the curious and indifferent guy.
The guy who was crying his eyes out at that Funeral Hall and the way it helped Park Bo Young’s performance.
The one who is starting to remember, who kissed DK because he felt so.
I cannot forget his eyes at the scene where they had their memories back. That longing in that gaze was amazing! It moved me to my core…

I am going to start analyzing our main OTP and then I will go to the second triangle!

Episode 13 was a fast forward experience of the first 1-4 episodes in repeat.
We got phrases that they were saying to each other and they have said before.
Like “Stay still.” / Kamani / Kamanish.

They repeated all the key points of their relationship.
They bickered a lot, DK said and did almost everything in that dream sequence, as she has done before.

Which it shows us that they truly belong together.

MM was distant, then he started to have his walls coming down.
DK told him that she has seen him cry, something he still denied.
He still kissed her out of the blue and triggered their memories to come back.

    This is indeed their Fate.

If this was an endless loop, then they will meet each other, fight for a while, then fall in love on repeat. (Does that ring a bell? TK:EM intertextuality over here. Especially the Church scene, in Episode 14’s preview, where they are praying…)

I will transcribe here the most important parts of their conversations.

For me, the most significant one is the scene at his Subconscious. That has as a result, their union when their memories were restored.
Note: In the parenthesis (…) are my notes.

Myul Mang’s Subconscious Aka The Dead Garden.

    DK: What is this place?
    MM: My subconscious.
    DK: Subconscious?
    MM: Like your beach.
    DK: Ah…

DK starts to understand MM, as she did back in Episode 3.

    DK: That’s why.
    MM: What is?
DK: You said this place is like my beach.
You live with the mindset like this that makes you so sharp.
MM: Stop saying nonsense and try to remember. Do you really not know me?
    DK: I don’t.

*MM: Think before you speak. *

DK: Why would I have to think? I know when I see.
DK smiles and that rings a bell to MM because he had said something similar to her back in Episode 8 (if I remember correctly).

    Flashback
MM: Why think when something’s pretty? You know when you see.
The sound she made was the same as she did seconds ago. MM is shaken.

MM: Have you…ever been here before?
DK: Would I have? * Think before you speak. *

(She returns the phrase back at him!)

DK: What? Do you think you’ve seen me here before?
DK looks wary by the look at his face. She read him well and she stands up.

DK: You really must’ve seen me here before.
    MM: No.
    DK: But why-
    MM: I don’t know.

DK: Regardless, you need to be reeducated on language. Can you speak so I understand? In longer sentences.
(This line was used again after reset #1, when MM couldn’t stay away from her, at the hospital, right before reset #2, DK’s erasure.)

DK: You are always staring at books, but what you are even doing?
(Slip of tongue here, but how does DK know that MM always stares at books?)

DK: Hey, tell me honestly. You don’t read the books, right? You’re just holding it, right?

    MM sighs.

MM: There’s a saying written by that author.

“To die is nothing, but it is terrible not to live.”
DK: No. I’m saying it to myself.
MM: Since I am nothing. Since I am not alive.
DK: Out of that writer’s famous quotes, there’s this saying as well.
“The reduction of the universe to the compass of a single being,
And the extension of a single being until it reaches God – that is Love. ”

(The Author here is Victor Hugo. The quotes here are from his novel “Les Miserables”. In this scene we get to see, how MM and DK both view the world and why they are the yin to each other’s yan. They complement each other.)

DK: Try to remember what is beautiful from now on. Then, this place will become better.

Her smile brought back all the smiles MM has witnessed from her.

Hence the Kiss that changed it all!

    DK: Why… What is this…?

The memories are floating back, she remembers her decision and that makes DK to wake up at the Hospital, while MM’s subconscious changes from a dead to a colourful garden. The memories are finally restored!

    >>> The million-dollar question: Is the Contract again valid? <<<

    Lover’s Reunion at DK’s terrace.

DK’s phone is ringing. Sa Ram is the caller.
    DK: Hello? She turns around.

(*The LOOK of LONGING and SADNESS*)

    DK: You…How?
You, how did you forget me?

    DK stars to cry.
MM: That’s something I should be saying.
DK: Even If I made that kind of decision,
you should’ve realized as soon as you saw me. You should’ve remembered!
MM: Is that my fault? Did I tell you to make that kind of choice?
You just act according to your own will, without saying a world to me.
DK: You…even if you remember, how are you always so mean?
MM: Even if you lost your memories, did I still look handsome to you?

They stop bickering. They embrace and keep crying.

We get that glimpse of that pot where it blooms to that beautiful flower.

Finally, they are both tuned in love for all the right reasons!

    My Treat:
    Victor Hugo’s Quote
“The reduction of the universe to the compass of a single being, and the extension of a single being until it reaches God – that is love.
Love is the salute of the angels to the stars.
How sad is the heart when rendered sad by love!
How great is the void created by the absence of the being who alone fills the world.”

  33. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi Everyone, my agapimenes, lovelies and darlings, I’ve finally gotten home after a 2 hour wait to get my Mum-in-law discharged from hospital. Sheesh.

Thanks @Cleo for the SIG greeting. So nice to see him being himself. MM is too stiff and cold LOL. SIG would never make a good tsundere in real life. Thanks @Janey for putting up the OST for @pkml3.

I managed to watch Ep 13, but only transcribed some of it and I feel I’d like to combine my observations about the OTP with tonight’s episode and post more about it tomorrow.

Yup @Janey, the 2nd couple interactions are lots of fun to watch, most likely because they are not suffering from memory loss LOL.

Catch Her When She Falls Trope
Yes, @Janey, I like that the tables have turned, and although I think Cha did sort of say that he would not do stuff like waiting around for a girl, in the end he did hang around NJN’s neighbourhood (twice! Ep 13 is the 2nd time) and he was on hand to catch her when she tripped.

And this is a parallel situation with what happened between MM and DK. He tells her to go walk back to the hospital on her own, and heads off by himself, and yet, when she stumbles, he’s there to catch her.

Similarly when she collapsed at the hair dressers. MM was there right on time. It goes to show that no matter how much he protests that he does not know her, he cared enough to be watching and was close enough to catch her. 😉

  34. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Mentoring/Parenting
This theme keeps popping into my mind as I watch this show. It seems that Cha has been ‘brought up’ by a dad who wanted him to learn by taking care of Lee HK. Dad’s style of parenting is to get his own son to mentor another kid. To challenge his own son, he finds fault with him. Dad does not seem to have ‘taught’ Cha all that much himself, but he’s around to criticise. I find it questionable that a youngster in his early 20s was in charge of a kid in his late teens, and mentoring him. Could this be the reason why Lee turned out to be such a ‘loser’?

I wondered about Lee being so dependent on his Cha Joo Ik Hyung, and how like Dad says, Cha had been giving in to Lee. Lee (according to Dad) was supposed to be very competitive and even competent in running his business, but this spirit of competition and competence did not seem to extend beyond his swimming or his cafe. In the face of Cha, he does not have confidence that he can ‘win’. When things got hard, Lee’s default reaction was to run away or leave it in Cha’s hands.

But when we consider that when Cha needed help, he too went to his rich father, it’s likely that the way he gave in to Lee was modeled on the way his father gave in or ‘lost’ to him. Between Cha and Lee, though, it backfired, it took away some of Lee’s agency because Cha began to feel that he had a right to protect Lee and NJN without asking them what they thought.

The so-called competitive Lee, asks to meet Cha outdoors to talk.
Cha : “Then does this place work for you?”
Lee : “No. There isn’t such a place.” (He says he can’t speak to Cha in their apartment because he’ll lose there. It’s Cha’s turf. He has started to view their relationship as rivalry and competition. But even outdoors, he feels he will lose. This means that Lee has figured out what a pathetic loser he is.)
Lee continues : “I picked this place because it’d be easier to run away if I wanted.” (The competitive coward speaking.)

Cha tells Lee truthfully that he kissed NJN and the reasons he gives make Lee feel even more worthless and pathetic (as it should!!!) than ever.
    Lee : “Why?”
Cha : “She cried there every single day. If I didn’t make her leave that day, she would have cried, sitting on that step for days and months. I didn’t want her to come back, to sit and cry. That’s why I did it.”
Lee : “Did you think about me?”
Cha : “I did. That was all the more reason why I did it. You knew that she was waiting for you. You knew, but you never went out to see her because you were embarrassed. (What a cop out! His pride over the sufferings of the girl he liked.)

You left Korea as if you were never going to come back, but you came back after only a few months because it was tough. (We hear later that he was injured and decided that he missed Korea, so he came home.)
You didn’t want her to find out. …Say something. Curse me out if you want. I’ll handle it. I won’t run away.” (The big difference between Cha and lee.)
Lee : “Why are you so brutally honest? You could have avoided answering it, apologised and moved on.” (That’s the problem with Lee. He avoids instead of facing the unpleasant truth head on. His speaking to Cha now is an aberration in his normal avoidance.)
You have a way with words too. Why are you so brutally honest with me?”

Cha : “Because I like you. You are one of a few people I actually like. (We later hear DK say that Cha does not open his heart easily to people. So when he does, as he has done with Lee, he is very loyal.)
I don’t want to be a coward in front of you. I’ve hidden it for too long and all these years, (he places his hand on his heart) it had been bothering me too.”

Lee gets to his feet : “This is so annoying. … Hyung you still make me feel worthless even in this moment. You’re so annoying.” (I wonder with the power imbalance in their relationship, and because Cha had influence over Lee, how much of this is Cha’s or Lee’s fault.)

Lee walks off : “I regret every moment of it. Running away, taking too long, and asking you (he could mean 2 things here … asking Cha to answer NJN’s text message 10 years ago / asking Cha this question and getting the brutal truth). Everything.”

  35. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Parenting of Dad Cha
Following from the above post about Parenting…
Lee is pathetic. In certain matters, I feel he has lost his agency. He has allowed himself the easy life for too long under Cha’s wing.

When Cha speaks about him to Dad, Cha says : “I’m not going to fight him. Plus, I’d win anyway.” (There was always the element of an imbalance in the dynamics of the 2 men. Lee look up to his Hyung. My feeling is that Lee should move out and get his own place and grow up. His café still has the Pinocchio dolls there, he’s still a boy waiting to become an adult.)

Dad: “Then go ahead and fight. You won’t know who will win until you actually fight him.” (Dad might have deliberately encouraged the 2 boys to be together to toughen them both up, but Cha had been lenient and given way to Lee, so they had never had a proper fight before. Their relationship had been stagnant too. This reminds me of what GD said about children needing to rebel in order to grow.)

Cha : “Do you want me to go around fighting people?”
Dad : “Do you know why I like Hyun Kyu so much? Maybe it’s because he grew up as an athlete, but behind that smile of his, I can tell he’s very competitive. (Unfortunately he’s a competitor who runs away when the going gets tough.) I really like that about him.”

Cha just has this look on his face, like he’s dissing his dad in his mind, “Whatever.”
Dad : “You’re nothing like him. (Thank heavens!) When he’s in for a competition, he does everything he can to win, but look at you. (In his father’s opinion, Cha too had gotten everything easily and didn’t need to fight for any of it.)

(So, a question arises, … if Cha had competed against Lee for NJN in the beginning, would Lee have let her go so easily? No one had fought with him over NJN, so he didn’t do anything to keep her by his side or break up with her properly?)
You always just yield as if it doesn’t even matter. (We saw this in the way he offered to give his car to Lee, but Lee had refused and wanted to win it fairly.)
I bet he’s pretty irritated though. You always let him win without even putting up a fight.”

(So this Writer’s parenting point is that children must rebel against their parents in order to grow? Lee did not rebel against Cha, and therefore he did not grow. Cha failed in good ‘parenting’?

In the area of NJN, though, Cha was not going to yield.)

Cha : “Things are a bit different this time.”
    Dad : “How so?”
Cha : “We’re not fighting. But I need to take something from him.” (Unfortunately this sounds like he is treating NJN as an object.)
Dad : “Really? Then I guess you’ll win this time. I’ve never seen you fail to get what you want and the same goes with this. (Dad indicates the money for Cha’s new business. Dad has been observing his son and knows that he’ll succeed.) I’m looking forward to it.”

Dad : “If you lose but refuse to admit to it, that would make you a bad mentor. (A good mentor should model how to be a good loser. Which includes giving closure. This was lacking in Lee’s interaction with NJN.)
But if he loses and doesn’t back off, that would mean you didn’t teach him well.” (Lee should understand when he loses, he should let go. In the area of sports, he had lost and given up. The question is: did Lee run away easily because Cha made it easy for him to avoid responsibility?

Worse, when he ran away, did he not give up, not admit that he lost, and not give closure? Did he expect that because he did not back off, he still had a chance? Was this what he was trying with NJN? How much of the cowardice of Lee was due to Cha’s mentoring or interference?)

Cha : “So whatever happens, it’s all on me/all my fault.”
Dad : “If you’re going to be the bad guy no matter the result, you should at least win.”
(The competition motif again. If you’re going to go all out for something, including making mistakes, then you should at least win. Dad is interested in the results.)

I don’t like Dad’s parenting style where the journey is not as important as arriving at the destination. Using fair means or foul was about the same to him as long as Cha won.
Although Dad uses a disapproving tone with Cha, he likes his own son, and is challenging him to take the path less trodden ie fight instead of taking the easy way, and to win at all cost.

    Juxtaposition of parenting styles
Immediately after this we see MM accosting his parent figure, GD as she read. He demanded information but while in the past she’d at least give cryptic responses, she ignored him completely. This was probably because in the past, she’d interfered more, and it had not turned out well. This time she was going to leave it to him to figure it out.

    Objectifying Cha
I mentioned above that Cha seems to treat NJN as an object to be taken from Lee. However the girls do the same thing to Cha, LOL.

DK laughably accosts the much taller NJN in the corridor, pinning her to the wall as if she’s a thug. She asks NJN to spill it about Cha, but NJN says she doesn’t know.

NJN : “How did I become the bad girl?”
DK : “You’re not a bad girl. You’re finally being rewarded.”
    NJN : “Rewarded?”
DK : “No, it’s an award. (LOL) Mr Cha is an award.”
(The prize motif continues but it’s the turn of the women to objectify our Cha. He does look like one of those ‘Oscar’ statues on an award!!)

NJN is bemused to find out that Cha is a good guy, is rich and can be funny as well, such a good catch! LOL. I’d grab him myself if I could!! Anyway, Writer is fair and square about how men and women may objectify each other. Not right, but it happens in RL!

  38. @TY,

Yes, from the moment I heard it yesterday on that preview, I knew it from the first notes.

Thank you for telling us right away!

  39. @TY, thank you for the song. I would like to see the ‘making of’ for it. What a great voice he has.

@Growing Beautifully, yes, they seem to be objectifying here, but perhaps Cha is simply trying to keep a bit back from his dad, who would probably get too excited if he knew Cha was pursuing a girl. That was my impression.

  40. Hey my lovely, darling, agapimeni @GB!

I agree with you about the parenting! Still, I have to say that the Viki Subbers translated some lines differently! I am going only to write down here the ones that are different, okay?

The only thing, I want say is that I strongly believe that Na Ji Na shouldn’t pick anyone from the two, and stay alone by herself to figure out her feelings first.
In k-dramaland, thought, she has to pick someone. As it seems Director Cha is the man.

I didn’t like the trophy reference when Cha was talking with his dad about Na Ji Na as a thing. If that is translation mistake or the language Cha had to use with his dad in order to understand his fight.

From Cha and Lee’s conversation (from 04.58 mark):
Cha: … Even if you swear at me, I will listen with my mouth shut. I will not run away.
Lee: Why are you that honest? You could’ve just said some excuse and let it slide after saying sorry. You’re good at talking, yet why are you that honest with me?
Cha: Because I like you. You, are one of the few people I like.
So I don’t want to be a coward in front of you. I hid it for too long.
All this time, (he places his hand on his heart) It was stuck inside here. For me too.
    Lee: I’m so annoyed.
Hyung, seriously, even at times like this, you make me feel worthless. Seriously, you are so annoying.
    Cha: Where are you going?
    Lee: The Café!
    Cha: Why?
Lee: I can’t sleep in the same house with you tonight.
I regret every moment. Running away, being late, asking, everything.

The other part I want to write down is what he told to Na Ji Na at the hospital.

Na: I’m going to drink with Hyeon Kyu.
    Cha: Go ahead.
Na: I thought you liked me. Aren’t you supposed to stop me?
What if I make a mistake when I get drunk?
Cha: A mistake? Go ahead. My feelings won’t change regardless.
If it was that easy, I wouldn’t have told you.
Na: Do you really like me? Since when?
    Cha: From the beginning.
    Na: When is “beginning”?
Cha: (with a steady voice) From the beginning.
Na: You must be nuts. How can a person like you make such a dumb choice?
Cha: I know. But letting go is dumb. Letting go is dumb, Na Ji Na-ssi.
    Na: Who calls who dumb?
Cha: I thought for a very long time. “Why did I kiss a girl I don’t even know?”
“Why did I care so much about a girl, who I don’t even know, crying?”
There was the answer from the beginning. But I just thought that I shouldn’t.
Na: Does Hyeon Kyu also know?
Cha: Know what? That we kissed? Or that I like you?

(This line has Lee Gon vibes. The conversation about dating or not and that kiss with Tae Eul in KoC in Episode 5)
Cha: He knowns. He knew it all. That’s why I have nowhere to back out.
What do you think? Do you think I’ll be able to win?
    Na: I don’t know.
Cha: Why don’t you know anything?
    Na: Then do you know?
    Cha: I do.

Lastly, what Cha said after the kiss to the sleeping Na Ji Na. That pillow is a mirror to what MM did for DK in episode 7:
Cha: Then make those mistakes only when you’re with me.
Your thoughtless mistakes beat me up to death.

  41. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Fern, sorry I was thinking it was @Janey who said this, but it was you.

    Ji Na’s return kiss

The balance is restored. Previously she had been in tears and pitiable. She’d been waiting for a kiss from Lee which never came. Cha kissed her instead to chase her away and because he wanted to.

This time she’s in tears again but drunk and it’s Cha who’s waiting for her, knowing that she went drinking with Lee. NJN kisses him because his kiss had come to matter to her and I feel she did not want to regret finding out where it would take her. It would of course work the opposite of chasing him away, regardless of how she would regret it in embarrassment.

Cha catches her as she drunkenly loses her balance.
Cha : “Don’t be confused. I came here because I wanted to see you and I like you.”
He brushes off a tear from her face.
She goes up and kisses him. He resists returning the kiss or holding her.
    Cha : “What was that?”
NJN : “I didn’t want to drink because if I did, I might do something that I would regret.” (Well girl, you just did!)

She literally falls into his arms. He helps her home where she collapses in sleep on the couch. He covers her with a blanket and puts a pillow under her head. (We recall that MM did something similar for DK.)

Cha says to a sleeping NJN “Limit your regrets only to me. Your regrettable action could destroy me.” (If in her drunken state she did something she regretted with someone else, like Lee, it would affect Cha very badly… maybe even destroy his friendship with Lee which he treasures. He wanted her to only do regrettable things with him.)

Of course the next morning she’s horrified that she kissed Cha, and is full of regrets LOL.

    =======

    @Fern you asked

“if this could be linked to Doom’s reaction to DK’s decision that she made without consulting him.”

I found MM’s reaction a hoot. He runs over to the hospital and then runs to her home. And they immediate start berating each other for forgetting the other. They are like another old married couple. (The other one is Cha and Lee according to Sun Kyung.)

I don’t see a connection with Cha’s talk of regrets, however I’d love to find the instances of regrets and see if there’s more connections to be made.

Yes it was interesting that DK didn’t have photos on her phone. The words on her diary were hidden, so maybe the photos in her phone were hidden as well. But GD didn’t bother with MM’s phone.

“I was half expecting Doom to show up and get the job of cutting her hair.”

LOL. MM should indeed have turned up as the hairdresser to shave DK’s hair off!!! He was definitely around to catch her.

  42. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Janey
The comedic moments were so good. MM’s appearing over and over as different hospital staff was such a hoot.

    Handsome is as Handsome Does
I am reminded of a Korean saying that goes “He’s so handsome that even without eating, we’ll be full.” We can feast our eyes and fill our tummies with a hot guy’s good looks LOL.

We also recall that in Episode 1 and again here in Episode 13, MM points out that he knows he’s handsome. He has the gall to ask if she still found him handsome despite her losing her memory!

I was thinking about how the ladies in the hospital were complaining that none of the doctors in the hospital was handsome, and how this tied in with MM popping up there as the only handsome doctor, therefore he had to be the ghost! LOL.

When DK’s colleagues came, they commiserated with her over having to starve herself for the med tests, and her colleague offered to send pictures of hot guys for DK to look at because it’d be boring in hospital and hot guys would make life more enjoyable.

Although DK should have been starving, they didn’t know that she had been given a lot of chances to feast on MM’s handsomeness as he took on the multiple roles of hospital staff in her presence, so she shouldn’t have been hungry at all!

  43. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Cleo
Yes, I totally relate to what you say about SIG’s acting. I’m amazed that our actors like SIG and Auntie, in those short scenes, are able to call up the appropriate feelings and emote so well. I was totally convinced. Yes, PBY also ended up crying because of SIG’s heartrending grief.

I like how the scenes were replayed with enough changes, and still enough similarities to show us that these were the same, genuine characters, just being themselves. So the smiles and expressions, the words they used, were the same, and they could bring back the memories. GD just needed them to meet, without the contract that would destroy their happiness, and her plans would come to fruition. We see that the plant starts to bloom.

It was noteworthy that MM was the one denying his feelings (previously it had been both of them but more DK). He deliberately did not answer DK when she asked him if he had cried just like her.

I was laughing at how MM asked DK to smile at him, because he sensed that that smile resonated with a significant memory, and all she could do were pathetic smirks. LOL. However when she was at her ease in his ‘dead’ garden, her smiles were genuine and they triggered his memory of her.

After he kisses her (just like the way NJN kissed Cha, as if to try it out for size or memory, because it felt like the right thing to do), DK recalls speaking with GD and returns to the hospital while MM is still in his subconscious garden.

To MM’s amazement, the colours gradually return to all his garden – a sign of his being more fully alive. When DK had been with him, he was no longer alone, no longer just doom, but the one who enabled new beginnings, who was capable of loving and being loved. Also the colours flowed back because he did as advised by DK, he started to remember what was beautiful. He remembered her and them together. We are shown the events going backwards from the time the marble broke.

    – DK put the marble into his hand, saying that she was no longer afraid.
    – DK had cried in his arms at the beach, when she’d finally acknowledged her feelings.
    – MM had returned to her in hospital and embraced her.
    – They’d taken a photo together.
    – He’d kissed her in the rain, and in the ferris wheel.
    – They’d sat in the field when he’d asked her to love him.
    – They’d stood on her roof, after he’d stopped her, when she had challenged him by throwing herself off it.
    – They were outside the hospital after they’d both protected each other from the killer.
    – DK had taken his hand in the face of the Truck of Doom and signed the contract.

Those were all the significant times when crucial decisions had been made to lead them to where they were. Those were the beautiful memories to colour his world.

    (人 •͈ᴗ•͈✿ฺ)

  44. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @Cleo for the Victor Hugo quotations. It got me looking up more of them and there are so many good ones!!!

So true that they complement each other. When MM quotes something sombre, DK quotes something that is uplifting. She brings colour and beauty into his sad existence, and turns his existence into meaningful living. I guess that’s what Mummy GD had wanted all along for her ‘child’. Seeing that MM was well on his way to discovering what he needed to know, for himself, GD quietly disappears and leaves the plant to bloom.

  45. @GB,

I am still amazed by that MM’s gaze. I keep recalling it in my mind and it conveys so much emotion, that is insane!

This fast forward period of amnesia brought together so many emotions.
That’s why I wrote they complement each other. Even without their memories, they kept doing what they used to do the first time around and then the second.

I loved how MM got the answer WHY his Garden became colourful, after DK was there for the second time.

The message DK’s answer, he has to think beautiful things, i.e. just change your mindset is a secret and immediate message for the viewers as well.

As long as, we focus to beautiful things, then we can alter our sacred space that might be sad and dark to something full of wonders, beautiful, hopeful and serene like.

This was specifically visualized with the events you mentioned!
Those significant times are his “precious”, so to speak! *winks*

This message is so needed in the Pandemic. We need to be keep in our hearts our precious too, in order to manage it not only mentally but also emotionally…

What I am curious about is :

-Is the contact is still on?
    -Where is the deity girl?
From that last scene, it seems that the pot was in her Garden.

  46. @GB
I thought MM was particularly handsome in the red coat! I’m going to really miss seeing the leads after next week.

  47. My darling agapimenes @Cleo and @GB – it’s so wonderful to wake up and read your posts. Thank you for transcribing the same scenes that touched and moved me. Reading the lines and recalling what I felt/thought when I watched them create a more potent memory and impact to me. I read you and appreciate you.

I’ve not read the book Les Miz but watched the musical multiple times. Who delivered those lines?

Tuesday and Wednesday are my hectic days so I’m just sneaking this in. Ta Ta!!!

  48. @TY, ty for SIG’s song! What a great voice he has. This will be on repeat and will accompany my busy day.

  49. @janey yes he has such a good voice! Looking forward to hearing it in the upcoming episodes

  50. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Silencing the Chatterer
Since Episode 12, whenever DK meets MM, she’s been super chatty. It felt like as strangers, she was more interested in getting to know about him and kept asking questions, making assumptions and generally chatting in a friendly way. MM didn’t respond in kind.

Therefore I laughed when MM had the opportunity to shut DK up in the X-ray room.
    At the X-ray room.
    DK : “You again?”
MM : “Stop chatting and sit.”
DK : “I can’t believe this. Why do you keep following me around?”
He places her on the seat.
    DK : “Hey!”
MM : “Stay still. Don’t move.”
DK : “Do you even know how to work this thing?”
    MM : “Stop talking.”
DK : “Seriously, why are you doing this…”
MM : “Hold your breath.” (Did any of you lovelies see the BTS where because MM’s warm breath could be seen in the cold outdoor scene at the Amusement Park, he was told to hold his breath and he had such a hard time? PBY was laughing at him. This is payback time!)
    MM sniggers : “Good girl.”

At the MRI DK asks him : “How many jobs do you have? Why are you doing this to me?”
MM : “I’m here to save your life.”
DK : “What are you talking about?”
He takes her phone from her pocket.
MM : “If you go in there with this, you’ll die. Do you know how expensive it is to fix this thing? I saved your life.”
DK : “So you’re worried about the machine, not me?”
MM : “Lie down. Stop talking.”
DK : “Why does he keep telling me to stop talking?” (LOL.)

    The Glamour of Doom
From Episode 12 – DK has been chatting with MM without fear but meets him on the roof and they start arguing.
DK : “… Don’t start with me. I wish the entire world will be destroyed right now.”
    MM smiles “I like that.”
DK : “What? What do you like?”
MM : “That you wish the entire world will be destroyed.”
    He comes close to her.
MM : “You know what, I like you. You have potential.” (LOL when he starts liking her, then only she starts finding him scary.)
DK : “What are you doing? You’re scaring me.”
    MM : “You’re scared? Now, you’re scared?”
He laughs : “A little late, don’t you think? People say you’re dense, don’t they?”

DK : “Wahhh! Seriously. You must really want me off this roof. Fine, I’ll leave, because you disgust me and scare me.”

And in Episode 13, NJN considers going to a fortune teller to figure out which guy to date.
DK : Fortune teller – should we go together?
    NJN : “You too?”
DK : “Some freak, …no, a doctor, …no, I don’t know how to describe this.”
NJN : “What is it? Is a doctor hitting on you?” (Her mind starts working overtime and she glamourises the situation.)
DK : “Yes. He keeps saying let’s end the world together.” (It was supposed to be scary gloom and doom, but NJN only thinks of ‘lurve’ LOL.)
NJN : “My gosh! He says he’ll love only you even if the world ends?” (Way to go to create fake news! LOL)
DK : “When did I say that? That’s not it….” (Ironically, in the end, that was really it. MM would love only DK, even when she dies, or they both do and their world ends.)
NJN : “Awesome. A hot doctor falls for a patient at first sight and begs for her love.” (Sounds like a new story by NJN. Can’t wait to read it!!)

  51. Hello Darlings and Lovelies!!

Oh I don’t know why but I like eps 13 so much. It shows us that they cannot escape their fate as belong to each other.

@Cleo, about SIG’s eyes : I KNOW RIGHTT… that’s the most beautiful thing I’ve seen from him so far. His gaze in front of DK’s house.. I can’t even properly describe it, but he seems so sad yet so relieved. I’m so touched that finally he “found” her again… After lost in his hidden memories.

@ TY thanks for the link video. Why do I wanna cry whenever listen to the DAYS ost 🥺

But I’m glad that they put so much comedy scenes in this episode. Like when DK meet MM in a different roles. Hahaa

I agree with @Janey that Cha Joo Ik’s lines are delivered like poetry. It’s like the PD realize how special this actor’s voice is and how suitable for this role.

And @GB thank you so much for your writings regarding the second lead. I enjoy it so much.

In the preview of eps 14, It seems that NJN finally decided about her heart. (?) and LHK cry so hard. Actually I still don’t understand what really happened in his mind. Why he had to runaway. Why he can’t forget about NJN. Why he didn’t have any other girlfriend (seems so). And so many questions. Seeing him somehow remind me of Junghwan in R1988 when he wants to meet DeokSun at the concert. In the end he knows that it is too late, he missed his timing/fate anyway.

  52. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Cleo
So true about the complementarity and the garden becoming colourful. I like what you say about:

“The message DK’s answer, he has to think beautiful things, i.e. just change your mindset is a secret and immediate message for the viewers as well.” … “This message is so needed in the Pandemic. We need to be keep in our hearts our precious too, in order to manage it not only mentally but also emotionally… “

Yes especially in this time when we keep facing the threat of illness and fear for family and friends. Even when facing death, we can have a positive mindset, and find beauty in difficult situations.

What I am curious about is :

-Is the contact is still on?
    -Where is the deity girl?
From that last scene, it seems that the pot was in her Garden.

I’m guessing that GD deliberately gave DK the chance to break the contract, therefore even after they recover their memories, GD has gotten her wish and the world would not be destroyed.

I’m thinking GD could have died, since she seemed too sick to have been discharged. Or she should have been moved to Intensive Care. It’s normally the case that the room gets cleared only after a patient leaves for good though.

Yes, to me also, the pot looked like it was in GD’s garden.

    Time to watch Episode 14!!!

  53. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

With the expected/unexpected end of Ep 14, we seem to be set to have 2 more episodes that need to have interesting twists to bring on the happy ending. I have trust that Show can do it!!
    ✌.ʕʘ‿ʘʔ.✌

  54. @Growing Beautifully, I was thinking that both NJN and Young Prince might write great stories based on DK’s experience.

I agree with you and @Cleopatra that the pot was in a garden, but whether GD’s or in MM’s resuscitated garden, I wasn’t clear. Roll on Ep 14.

  55. Be still my heart… 🙁

    What I expected have happened…

    *Sighs*

Damn, it made me so sad though…

  56. Scanned thru raw ep14 during lunch and found an Easter egg!!! The OTP were watching Start Up with Nam Do San’s hilarious acceptance speech video at CODA. LOL!!! With endings come beginnings and start up.

  57. @Janey!

    “Show me the money!”

  58. Spoilers.

Oh, Lovelies, Darlings, and Agapimenes, I went through several tissues with that episode.

I’ve missed something. I’m confused about contract/no contract, day zero but DK survives, Doom gets compassion and a purpose which is what GD wanted but then it’s to no avail because he dissipates. I guess he got his main wish. And what would a world without doom be like? Doesn’t there have to be some entity fulfilling that function? I’ll have to sleep on it.

  59. Hello DAYS peeps.

@Cleo, i’m glad you mentioned the Victor Hugo quotes that Doom and TDK recited to each other. I noticed the front cover of the book that Doom was reading this time… and I do love Les Mis and VH. Thank you for including the longer version of the quote… 🙂 truly a treat 🙂 i can only remember this quote “To love another person is to see the face of God.”—Victor Hugo 🙂 which i love haha.

God bless you all and know that all your DAYS writings and analysis are appreciated.

  60. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi All the Titles of these episodes
Ep 13 – Who Are You
Ep 14 – Cold Heartless Fate

Hi @HK_Lady, thanks for joining us and reading us. It’s always so good to see more persons coming by.

@Fern I’d like to know if the plant in the pot remains alive and well or disappears. I like the sign of renewed life even when death seemed certain, in the ‘dead’ tree that still managed to bring forth green branches, and might bloom again. I’m thinking we get to see that tree in full bloom by series end.

@Janey Yes, I saw ‘Nam Do San’ and that’s a good thought. With this ending, there’re new start ups. It was most appropriate.

Was anyone shaking their head over how many times MM spoke about his being handsome? It must have been at least 4 times. I’m thinking that SIG must have cringed each time he had that kind of line to say. I’ll looking for BTS on those scenes!

@Fern, as is typical for kdramas, we do not get CLEAR explanations of whether something that was on or off is on again or whether it changed. I feel that goes for this show and that blighted contract.

What we poor viewers understand by a contract is not what Show is showing us. To us, that contract was broken ages ago by MM who did not hold up his end of the bargain when he refused to provide pain relief. And yet, we find that the characters still consider themselves bound by it.

As far as I can tell, it started from Episode 5 end (or earlier) when MM and DK were watching one of the last of the marriage traditions, when MM considered the person he had chosen for the contract.

MM : “I thought I picked the wrong person. (To make the wish for doom, to make the contract with? to fall in love with?). I thought I shouldn’t have picked you. That’s why I thought I was in this mess.”
DK : “Do you still think so?”
MM : “No. I picked the right person. So I came to this conclusion. (He looks at her) Love me. Love me if you can. That wouldn’t be such a bad idea either. So be the first human to love me.”
(She has already guessed that he planned to disappear should she love him the most.)

DK : “So what do you mean by that?”
MM : “When you tried to save me, you said you just wanted to. So you told me to just thank you. This is my way of thanking you.” (He’s giving her a way out. It was the way that she too had earlier suggested, before she had grown to care for him, to make him her best beloved so that only he would die if she broke the contract.)

DK : “You just want to die.” (Previously, he had told GD that he wanted to die, as in to cease to exist. However because he came to care for DK, his death gained a meaning and purpose, because he could help her.)

MM : “I want to save you.” (So early in the series, MM already had this in mind. It was his wish from Episode 5.)
DK : “You don’t mean that.”
MM : “How can my offer be bad for you?”
DK : “Yes it can. It’s ruining my mood. It puts me in a bad mood.”
MM : “Does your feeling matter more than staying alive.”
DK : “You don’t know how you look when you look at things that disappear, right? I know that face because I see it every day. When I look at you looking at me, I can see right through you.”
    MM : “See what?”
DK : “That you’re a good guy. (She only wants a bad guy to die) Staying alive isn’t what I want. I want to live a happy life. And I just realised that. That’s how I came to this conclusion. I don’t think I can be happy after making you disappear. So don’t get cheeky with me.”

(By Episode 14, we find that contract or not, this is what seems to have happened. He has disappeared and she is grieving.)

In Episode 6, MM says : “Love me. Then, I’ll die for you.” (He offers directly to die in place of her.) She’s upset by this and has difficulty sleeping.

The next day he sees GD as she gets the marble.
Deity asks : “So will you disappear?”.(She knows his plans.)
MM is surprise : “What …”
Deity : “Wasn’t that your plan? After getting her to love you?”
MM quotes what Deity said before : ” ‘The deities know everything. They just pretend to be clueless.’ ”
Deity : “Will it go as you planned?” (Well it did despite the help that GD tried to offer to DK.)

At this time, DK is still in denial that she loves MM and continues to try to ‘love a jerk’ to save her own life. MM counters that by offering her a wish for her to fall in love with him. He enchants her to almost kiss him.

This plan of his appears to get waylaid by GD, but it seems she kidnapped first him and then DK in order to make them aware that they did care for each other, regardless of the contract. GD had said to herself ” A love must suffer hardship to burn hotter”.

So no matter what GD, MM or DK did and tried, the love was already there according to fate. It seems that although the contract may not have existed, MM could choose to exercise it to ‘cheat’ fate. He probably could choose to ensure that its terms remained valid.

He did say that he could move doom from this person and give it to another person, when he threatened to hurt SK. Maybe in the same way, he could move the doom that was meant for DK to himself. He could not kill himself in the normal way, but he could exact the terms of the contract made with a human. So it was his decision from several weeks previously, and this episode, we and DK are told to be willing to let go and accept his decision graciously.

The happy ending does not come immediately but only in time (and sometimes from hindsight). I figure, 2 episodes should about do it!

  61. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Little Ramblings
Isn’t it great that the yellow tulips were replaced by a bouquet (more or less) of red roses? And if I counted more or less correctly, there were 12 stalks of roses in the bunch. No more unrequited love here!

I’m actually glad that GD is not dead or missing, but has decided on a different trajectory. She wants to get a heart? transplant so that she can live longer and see the plant bloom. (I question it because I didn’t know heart problems linked to coughing up blood). I’m actually wanting to see her with her natural hair, what she has now looks like a bad wig. That’s very strange because we know kdrama wigs can be very natural looking, so I’ve been wondering about GD’s hair/wig from the beginning.

The ‘domestic’ scenes were so sweet. I’m watching the BTS that includes some of them and SIG laughs a lot. And for outdoor scenes they had to wait for external noises to stop before they could continue. I’m always amazed that they can turn on the emotions when they need to, as in the final scene when MM disappears.

  62. Hello lovelies!
One more week and we have to say goodbye to DAYS, Mondays wouldn’t be the same without them.

Please allow me to share what i gathered from Ep.14..feel free to agree or disagree.😁
    1. The old woman who sold roses reminds me of the old woman in Goblin who talked to Eun Tak’s mom before she was killed in a car crash. The old woman told her that Goblin must find a bride and warned her that things will happen to her soon. The woman appeared to indicate that Goblin’s bride has been reincarnated, who is her daughter, the 10 year old Eun Tak.
Does it mean that the old woman who appeared before MM is an indication of Doom’s reincarnation?
It maybe farfetch but forgive me i still want the happy option of ending things in my Kdrama.😁

    2. If not, then I still love the significance of her appearance. MM asked her, “Are you going to leave this here?” (referring to the flowers) she answered, “I don’t need them anymore. They’re a burden. I’ve always felt burdened my entire life. Now it’s time to go and leave it all behind.”
What she said was enlightening. She welcomed Death like a natural thing. It’s as if she was waiting for him to come, like a long comforting respite after a hard days work. Life and Death is a one shot deal, so why don’t we appreciate death as much as we appreciate life?
In the midst of this pandemic, the central theme of this show is very timely.

    3. I’ve read from previous threads that DK’s brother and Lee Hyun Kyu is also a nod to the Pinocchio referrence. Well, it’s interesting to see them turned into a real boy now seeing how their characters have grown significantly. I thought it was really sweet for SunKyun to give his bankbook to MM. And that scene with Najina and LHK parting ways made me cry.🤧 Cha Jo Ik raised him well, alright.

    4. I really like this episode, despite the tears..and so many breathtaking cinematography! This is pretty much the ending i was expecting. The next two should tie up the loose ends.

    5. Last but not the least, SIG really makes art with this kind of trope. I am in constant awe of his talents.😍

  63. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @Lei, good to know you’re enjoying this along with us. Every time we get a show to obsess over, the weekday when it airs becomes super special LOL. I look forward so much to Mondays/Tuesdays and then it flows into Wednesdays-Fridays because these include the days we get to read comments too.

I can’t recall if the old lady may have also acted in Goblin, and I believe that the Birth Grandmother deity (acted by Lee El) was the old lady who warned about Eun Tak being the Goblin’s bride.

As other commentors have said, this show is filled with ‘Life Lessons’. One of these is to know when to let go instead of stubbornly holding on.

We should collectively compile a list of Life Lessons for instance:
    1) Live life to the full even if you have just a short time left to live. It’s never too late to start living well.
    2) Pride/self-conceit goes before a fall in the case of Lee HK who valued his image over looking pathetic. In the end that’s what made him really pathetic.
    3) When something is important/valuable act quickly instead of procrastinating.
    4) Avoid over indulgence to enable ‘kids’ to grow up and take the hard knocks and grow in resilience. Kids need some tough experiences to become adults.
    5) In time we’ll find that even the bad experiences are necessary and meaningful. We should embrace the bad with the good and not run away.
    6) Give even situations that seem hopeless a chance, the dead tree might bloom again. Death is not really an end in itself.
    7) In real life there is no reset, but still, be prepared to change, just like GD decided to try a new treatment instead of just waiting to die.

    Everybody, add on more!

  64. Kalimera my agapimenes, lovelies and darlings.

We knew this was going to happen. I felt it from Episode 13, still the emotional impact of last night’s episode was tremendous. I cried, when they cried.

    I sympathized with their feelings.

I did exactly what Aristotle said in his Poeticsabout his definition of what Tragedy (i.e. the theatrical play) and what brings to the audience.

Aristotle says that the audience should feel fear and pity, because they need to understand that “human beings are bound by universal laws, are subject to the same fate that befalls the tragic hero. Fear, along with pity, is “purged” in the process of catharsis. (Critical Link, Terms, n.d. [Retrieved from: http://www.english.hawaii.edu/criticalink/aristotle/terms/fear.html%5D)

Isn’t ironic in a tv series where hate is substituted with pity, that we feel pity ourselves? No, it is not.

We sympathize because in our hearts, there is heartbreak and sorrow. There is love. We have experience break ups and we know that the period afterwards is of mourning. We are mourning a minor death.

The reason it touched me the most, is that I got personally involved with the series. Since day 1 we were here analyzing their dramaverse, their behaviours, their bickerings, we laughed and we cried when they fell in love, when they denied that they were in love, until they finally realized it for themselves.

Myul Mang grew on me, because from a black and white lifeless character became a colorful and beautiful human being.

Yes, Writer-nim did a perfect job crafting him.

But it was Seo In Guk’s stellar job and dedication to make this character so beautiful, to make him his and shape him accordingly.
Seo In Guk is truly an artist. Αn actor, as the greek word depicts ( ηθοποιός : αυτός που ποιεί ήθος ), the one who poets ethos.
I cannot think anyone else would be better than him.

He is the perfect Myul Mang for me. His crying scenes are so intense. Especially the scene, where he lets himself to cry and the butterfly / nabi came near him, but it was wounded and it was unable to fly, it hit a nerve.

So, we cried so more. Here I am today, I bit emotional than the other days, affected from Myul Mang’s death.

I won’t be able to transcribe everything at once. Some scenes are too heartbreaking, so, bear with me.

The good part is that I have this feeling (that rings a bell with all those hunches of mine?) that we will have a happy ending.

As @Janey said above, we have got Easter eggs. So, let me share them with you.

    Easter Egg #1:

Tale of the Nine Tailed. It played back in the day, when DK wanted to learn more about Special Beings. She was trolling Myul Mang / Kim Sa Ram that he didn’t have the looks.
We all know what happened there okay? Lee Yeon sacrificed himself in order to save Ji-A. Six months later, he was resurrected, because of his brother’s own sacrifice.
I think that was the first foreshadow.

    Easter Egg #2

Start Up. Since the majority of us was that the Rewatch Party, we know that Nam Do San and Seo DalMi was an item. They broke up for three years, but they were meant to be together.
So here, everything is going to start up again. It is the second tv-series that the main OTP are having a happy ending.

    Easter Egg #3

Names have power. Someone told me about this and I believe it too. So, we finally learn that DK’s name has a meaning to.

Dong Kyung means Deep Longing. Sa Ram means Person / Human.

These are two of the twelve words that won’t cease to exist, according to what MM said to DK in the library scene.

They won’t cease to exist. Their love was / is fated. They were / are meant for each other.

Do you feel better now? I do.

    What we know so far?

Kim Sa Ram sacrificed himself for Dong-Kyung and he will return back to her.
    How do we know that?

Let us visit two important scenes from last night’s episode. Because in last night’s episode, we had several mirror scenes.

Note: Inside the parenthesis (..) are my notes.

Dong Kyung’s Consolation by The Deity Girl

TDG: You must be getting discharged. Did I scare you? I didn’t mean to.
The Deity Girl comes closer to DK. She caresses her cheek.
TDG: Your face looks worse. I wanted to help. Sorry.
(The deity girl after apologizing to MM, now apologizes to DK. )

DK grabs the Deity Girl’s hand.

DK: Help me. Help me one more time.
TDG: It’s out of my hands now.
DK: Then what should I do? What should we do?
    TDG: Accept it.

    DK let TDG’s hand fall.

    DK: I don’t want to.
TDG: If you don’t want to, are you going to bring doom upon the world?
    DK: I will.
TDG: You can’t do that. You’re not a person who can do something like that.
DK: No. For him, I can do anything.

(Didn’t I tell you that MM has become the most favorite person for DK?
Here DK is mirroring what MM has said to her, back to Episode 3, when she tried to jump from that balcony. Love me that much that you will wish to bring doom to the world for me. )

The Deity Girl hugs DK and sighs.

TDG: My life has disappeared countless times. I know the most about how things disappear.

The Deity Girl is caressing DK’s back.

TDG: You can cry, and try as hard as you can.
Then in the end, you come to accept it. Because that is that child’s choice.
    That choice is fate.
So just accept it. Accept doom.
That is not something you can do anything about.

    DK starts to cry.

TDG: I’m sorry. But that is the ending that the child wants.
That is the happy ending that the child wishes for.
DK: How is that a happy ending if none of us are happy between the two of us?
TDG: While living, you will come to realize. That you had to experience everything for this exact moment. That’s how it leads to happy ending. You have to live to know.
If everyone dies, you cannot know that.

The deity girl wipes the tear from DK’s cheek.

TDG: So just live. That child wants you to live. He wants to live very happily.

DK is heartbroken and closes her eyes, this conversation was needed, because it made DK to live in the fullest and cherish all the remaining days that she had with MM.

The Deity Girl and Myul Mang’s Goodbye.

The one who stays behind this time is the Deity girl. They meet at the broken bridge, but the one who came to say goodbye this time is Myul Mang.

TDG: Is this the last day?
MM: I came here to say goodbye.
TDG: I’m the one who came to say goodbye.
    MM: You knew, right?

The deity girl turns to face him.

MM: That I will make this kind of decision. Shin / God…knows everything.
TDG: No matter what, nothing is set in stone. Even if she wished for doom, I cannot know if that is possible or not. So how about if you just place your bet on that?
MM: No, I am going to place my bet on something I know for sure. The method that will surely save her.
TDG: Why did you make that kind of pointless promise?
MM: I must’ve had to keep that promise.
    TDG: Keep what?
MM: Whether it’s the promise, or her, or this world.

The Deity Girl becomes emotional and tries to hide it with a fake laugh.

TDG: You have more things to protect than me.

She turns around again and stands up.

TDG: I plan on living a bit longer.
While depending on the heart of a human, I want to continue on this life for a little bit longer.
MM: Isn’t this…your first time? That you’re thinking of that?
TDG: Yeah. Someday, that heart will stop again.
But there are many things I want to see in this body.
I really like this life. For many reasons.
MM: What do you want to see?
    TDG: Flowers. Fully blooming flowers.

MM finally realizes why his Deity Mother really loves her garden.

    >>> The thing is, why does the deity girl, in this lifetime, will live a bit longer?

What does she want to see in this life that matters to her?

Does she want to see her beloved Myul Mang being born again?

Does she want to see Dong Kyung to be happy?

Does she want to see both Myul Mang / Kim Sa Ram and Dong Kyung to be happy together?

    Yes, I think she does…

  65. Hey again. There are some comments I want to answer:

@HK_Lady Thank you for you kind words.
I thought it was needed to be included as a treat.
Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables is a story of many teachings.

@Fern darling, it order to ease your mind. I will say what I have written in the previous thread.

Since the deity girl was going to die, her power is not in the best capacity, hence the reset #3 was not successful. Since, both MM and DK revoke its status, then the contract was valid.

MM’s death is a meaningful one. If he is like phoenix, then he will be reborn from his ashes.

In his own words, he said that from nothing he became someone.

He died because he wanted to keep his promise to DK.
Love me, then I’ll die for you. I will save you.

While at the same time, it also happened because he was the most favorite person for DK. She didn’t bring doom to the world, and consequently the person she loved the most had to die instead.

So, we have two terms of the contract that were in force.

@Lei, I don’t think that the lady was there to give intel to MM.
We don’t appreciate death, because it is the unknown.
We are afraid of what we cannot see. We don’t know how the afterlife is. If it truly exists. We believe that it does, because we believe in God and that’s Faith.

Lee’s remarkable tranformation from a immature boy to a mature young man was perfect captured in this episode. He first said what needed to be said to his mentor Cha, then to Na Ji Na. He came clean with both of them. So yes, he is starting to become a good boy indeed.

My lovely @GB, as always you are up to the point.

That list you penned, we need to keep it somewhere and read it, when we feel that everything is pointless, to remember who we are and what is important. I will answer to what you wrote me yesterday later on!

  66. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Hi All Lovely People,
Started transcribing backwards and in random order.

By the way, I couldn’t whip out my phone in time to take a photo, but I saw a taxi with SIG and PBY on it in an ad for DAYS or VIU or something. Can’t recall the ad text but it was something like “Romance does exist, but it’s doomed.” LOL.

    Episode 14, 52:00
MM goes to the bridge to say goodbye to GD.
GD : “Is this the end?”
MM : “I came to say goodbye.”
GD : “I’m the one who came to say bye.”
MM : “You knew, didn’t you? (She turns around to look at MM) That I’d make this decision. Since a deity knows everything.”
GD : “Everything is uncertain. Even if she wishes for doom, it’s impossible to know whether or not it’s possible. So why don’t you bet on that?”
MM : “No. I’ll bet on the sure thing. On the sure way to save her.” (He wants to be certain that DK can be saved, and not depend on the maybe that GD suggests. Therefore he has taken the doom upon himself.)
GD : “Why did you make such a stupid promise?” (I guess she refers to the promise that the most loved person would be doomed.)
MM : “I guess it was something I had to do.”
    GD : “What?”
MM : “Keep my promise, protect her, and protect this world.”
GD nods with a smile – I feel it was a sign of approval. At last MM had come to care for and to protect the world that he’d hated.

GD : “You have more to protect than I do.”
She gets up to stand and speak
GD : “I plan to live a little longer. I plan to rely on the human heart and extend this life a little.”
MM is surprised : “That’s the first time, isn’t it? You never thought of doing that before.”
GD : “Yes. That heart will stop again eventually, but there’s still a lot that I want to see in this body. I really like this life in many ways.”
MM : “What do you want to see?”
GD : “Flowers. A flower in full bloom.” She smiles.

To me, this means that even after MM disappears, his flower can remain and GD will be watching over it still. So this version of him disappears, but he is not gone forever.

  67. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hah! My agapimeni Cleo, Once again we’re online and commenting on the same part of the show.

I just started doing it ‘properly’… the second half, but I’m jumping around a bit. Will read your Easter Eggs etc after I finish. 😉

  68. My agapimeni @GB,

I want to describe all the mirror scenes, but I cannot do it right away.
There are some scenes that make me teary eyed…

    *Hugs*

  69. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SEkHMu-28kw4nSU27Ek9bhAUuCntQiSS/view?usp=drivesdk

A friend saw this while she parked her car, I think you saw the same car.😁

  70. Here is another mirror scene, we got to see yesterday:
Myul Mang and Sun-Kyung VS Dong-Kyung and Ji-Na
What was said, what was implied and what SK and JN really understood.

Let’s talk about getting Married, shall we?

    1. MM and SK are sitting at a bench outside the Hospital.

SK: Is that why I haven’t been able to see you lately?
MM: Rather that not being able to see, it was more like you didn’t know me.
SK: Of course I didn’t know you were thinking that far.
Hyungnim, you’re really a big person. There’s no way I can be like you.
Honestly, It’s not an easy decision. I don’t feel all comfortable.
I’ve been carrying this for the moment like this. I’ve been saving up ever since I was 20 years old, doing part time.
MM : Why are you giving that to me?
SK: I’ve been carrying this all the time wondering when and how I should give it to my sister / noona. I think this is the right time. You should use it for the marriage.

SK is handing over his Savings Account to MM. MM is touched.
SK: To be honest, I thought you were a jerk in the beginning. You look handsome and rich and I wondered why you like my sister. You had no idea I was thinking all this, right?
MM: Yes, I had no idea.
SK: But now I wonder how lucky my sister is. Is it because she’s been so nice?

MM is smiling but it is a sad smile. He is trying not to cry.

SK: You must’ve been really nice to have met a person like my sister.
MM is looking at SK, he is enjoying that someone else says that he is indeed a nice person. MM sighs because he knows though.

SK: Please stay by my sister / noona, Hyungnim.

(I think this phrase makes MM to break down after their talk. That’s why he is crying uncontrollably. He wants so badly to be with DK, but he has to die to save her. She has to live happily… without him. )

SK: You will do that, right?
MM looks down, then at SK. He nods, that sad smile gives away his pain.
    MM: Yes.

They are both emotional, but SK doesn’t know what will happen to Hyungnim.
SK sighs. They share this moment and stay in silence.

    2. Ji Na and Dong-Kyung are inside the Hospital.

In that bench we have seen several times, so far.
Ji Na is standing and going up and down nervously, while DK is sitting.

    JN: Marriage? You’re getting married?
DK: I think that’s what he wants to do.
JN: How about you? That’s not what you want?
DK: I want to do everything that he wants to do.

    Ji Na grabs DK’s shoulders.

JN: Hey, marriage is not something you do out of loyalty. No matter how much you love him –

DK hugs JN and starts to bawling her eyes out. (*sighs)

    DK: Unnie.
JN: Hey. No matter what you do, I will check everything before you get married.
    DK: What do I do?
    JN: Are you crying?
DK: no matter how much I try to end it, no matter how much I try to run away, I end up at the same place. I try to abandon, but I can’t. I try to forget, but I can’t.
What do I do? I don’t have time, but I also don’t have any other ways.
    What do I do Unnie?

    JN: Dong Kuyng.
DK: It’s all my fault. It’s just all my fault.
JN: No, it’s not your fault. You didn’t do anything wrong.
So do everything that you want to do. I don’t care what. Forget everything I said earlier. If you’re happy now, that’s all that matters to me. So don’t say that you don’t have time. Don’t say such things.

DK finally breaks down and NJ is hugging her.

    My Treat:
The happy days of DK and MM.

We get to see happy couple moments with MM, engraved in DK’s memory up before D-1.

    DK’s Voiceover:

Like this, days like this will continue.
After you leave, spring will arrive.
When you fall, morning will rise.
When you end, I will start.
    So always, whenever it’s spring,
Or the morning, during all my life, I will think of you.
    Can I endure that?
That life…won’t be any different from doom.

(MM is smiling at DK, she is smiling back but it is a sad smile).

  71. To my Lovelies, @Lei, @Cleopatra and @Growing Beautifully,
thank you for your insight. It is helpful to me and makes me think that there will be some light at the end of this drama.

@Cleopatra, the subs I had translated DK’s name as Admiration. That’s good but Deep Longing makes more sense.

  72. @Lei,

You need to give permission to us to see the photo!

  73. @Fern,

When I read the meaning, i.e. deep longing, I was even more heartbroken last night.

  74. I noticed that the song This is Love was playing when Cha goes to comfort Lee, even as Lee is weeping and actually acceeding in regards to Ji-an. It must be the hardest thing, since the two men love each other as well, for one to let a beloved go to the other. I can’t imagine how their relationship can survive in the future, even though the previews show them at the batting cage again.

It makes me wonder. @Cleopatra said that Ji-an’s best option would be to distance herself from both men, so perhaps this occurs next episode.

  75. *acceding* -finger slip.

  76. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @Lei, Yup that’s the same ad on the taxi! LOL. Great eye-catching ad for VIU.

@TY, besides SIG in that red long coat, I think I like him in all the turtlenecks with overcoats. Actually all the guys and gals who are so nicely styled in Winter-Spring fashion layers look good.

@Cleo thanks for looking up all the mirror scenes for us!

@Fern, it would be refreshing for show to go the way of NJN deciding she does not need the men in her life at the moment. She could do with a more varied dating life and accumulate more ideas for male leads LOL!

  77. @GB,

Last night, all the scenes in the episode had a mirror one. Not only in the same episode, but also in other ones. It is inception! A scene within a scene! LMAO!

    For instance:

SK and JN talking inside the hospital vs outside the hospital.
The scene with Lee and Cha in the house and outside the house / building.
It was the second time that Cha was waiting for Lee to return.

Even the scene with Lee and Na at the road saying goodbye, it was a recreation of their school walk and they did show that to us.
Lee didn’t look back this time. Only Na Ji Na saying goodbye to him.

There two more scenes to be transcribed for MM and DK, but they are very long and I will do so the following day(s).

Even the last scene in Episode 14 was a mirror scene to their first kiss back in Episode 6. It even rained, but he was gone. This time for good (or so DK thinks.)
They have come a full circle.

  78. @Lei thank you!

  79. Dear Darlings,
Even though episode 14 is so sad, (Park Bo Young cry a lot in this episode…) I also sense the possibility of happy ending where they might see each other again. We get the hints that MM will disappear whenever he said he will save DK. But still their separation is really heartbreaking..

My thought is exactly the same with @Cleo, especially when GD said that she wants to stay longer because she wants to see the flower grows. I think she means the flower in her pot, and since the flower = MM, so it is possible that MM will come again and meet DK. (I saw in the preview of next episode when DK walked down into MM house and there is someone -blurred- who looked like MM sitting on the sofa. Is it a flashback scene or not?)
    😢 I wish it’s not a flashback.

I love about the easter eggs too!
And since my translation is the same with @Fern when they’re talking about names. I saw “admiration” instead of “deep longing”. And I’m getting teary eyed when I know this.

@GB, I’m looking forward to NJN decision too. It is better for her to clear her mind at the moment and set a distance with the two men. But since CJI said he would not lower his guard, I think CJI will make sure that when NJN ready to commit, he is on standby. 😅

  80. I really enjoyed ep14, I think it is one of my favorite episodes so far. No more running away from fate, from each other, instead they embrace fate and each other. I loved the sweetness, and also the sadness. Such a loving MM, and so much growth from Hyun Kyu. But there is still hope since there’s 2 episodes left! So I wasn’t too sad. I have no idea how things will turn around, and I’m waiting to be surprised.
Well if I had things my way, they would be married at least 5 episodes ago, but at least it happened 🙂

@GB there were so many moments that I caught myself thinking “Wow he is so handsome!” I’m glad this drama is set in colder weather, with wintery clothing. I can’t imagine MM inflicting doom in tshirt and shorts.

  81. @GB After reading your comment about the red roses, it hit home that’s its a progression from the yellow tulips. Even though the time they have is short, at least their love is reciprocated.

I was especially touched by the scene where DK cries when she thought MM was gone for good, but he had just gone out for a while to say goodbye to girl diety. He says he isn’t human, and doesn’t eat, doesn’t cry, and then we see him crying. Since he has become so much more human over the course of the drama, I hope he comes back as a human being to live happily ever after with DK next week.

  82. @TY, that is my hope as well, although I don’t know if we’ll get that result. But otherwise, why all of the effort to change him from a pinocchio?

  83. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @TY and @Fern
Yes, you saw the irony of MM saying he does not cry or fall in love but he actually does. He seems to have fallen in love since Episode 4!!!

Yes @Fern, that’s an excellent point. All the Pinocchio references should mean that he comes back as a human being.

Something troubled me … DK kept saying it was her last day and she’s running out of time. I expected her to say that time was short for them or they as a couple time. Doc still expects her to go back for treatment. So all the talk about saving her and she should live, etc… I hope it’s true and that she’ll live without the tumour. I hope she’s no longer facing a premature death!!

@Moonstar512 I’m torn between NJN standing on her own and being happy, and NJN making Cha more humble and warmer by choosing him. We know from the previews that she did not contact him.

    @Cleo Nice Easter eggs!

  84. Yes Dear All, I believe in Pinocchio references too! *fingercrossed*

@GB, I thought by “running out of time” means that she is running out of time to make a decision whether to destroy the world or let her most loved one disappears.. yeah I hope she’ll be healed and live a happy life.
Wait wait, makes me wonder too will we see the wedding scenes from them? I am surprised when MM mentioned marriage to DK’s aunt..

And about NJN.. me too actually. But it seems better for herself to give some space for a moment.

Aah I can’t wait for the finale eps next week..

  85. Hi Ladies,

So nice to read your comments! A very needed balm for my very broken heart… Special thank you @GB and @Cleo for transcribing the scenes, because I missed many minor details in the initial watch and it was too traumatic for me to rewatch last night, LOL…

I don’t know how the writers/actors do it, but I go with the story so immersed that it feels real. And my heart broke over and over with them… This was superb acting, directing, everything… where suspension of disbelief happens not even by choice, but against my will! Honestly, don’t know what I’m going to do with my Mondays after next week…

So after sleeping and with reactivated brain cells these are the main consolations I give myself to believe that the end game will be good:

I agree with you ladies that with all the Pinocchio motifs, there needs to be a reward because Doom did become a ‘good boy’.
When he was reading the book after reset it was about becoming an adult, and to do so the puppet must become good.
GD in the last conversation with DK refers to him as ‘child’. ‘That child’ wants DK to be happy. So she affirms that he is not an adult yet, but he has become a good boy.
I haven’t read the original Pinocchio (which I heard was pretty brutal), but I remember the Disney version 🙂 . Pinocchio sacrificed himself to save his father. And as a reward, the Blue Fairy revived him and made him into a real boy. So I’m expecting GD to deliver!!

Also, as @moonstar512 pointed out, GD stayed because she wants to see the flower grow. But this whole time she’s been watching over one specific flower in her pot. So the flower she wants to grow is MM. Since there is so much analogy in the show to flowers being human, and GD growing flower MM, it looks pretty convincing that she is growing him into a human. The butterfly was dying, the flower was blooming…

    So I’m expecting a happy ending…

    pretty please writernim…

  86. Dear Lovelies, when DK spoke to GD at the hospital, GD touched DK’s head with a caress. Did any of you feel that she might have been healing DK?

Otherwise, it’s still a glioblastoma that is impossible to remove completely and DK will die either quite soon or within about a year. In fact it sounded as though even the biopsy was dangerous.

  87. Agapimenes, lovely darlings of DAYS!!!
I will be watching ep14 fully with subs after all my meetings tonight. So more thoughts and sharing afterwards. I’ve read all your posts and transcripts, noted the Easter eggs and mirror scenes.

I really like the mirror scenes (there’s a lot!!!) – it was subtlety done and you get the feeling of nostalgia or dejavu and then it hits you that you’ve seen this before. This is like full circle- ep13 and 14 feel like the ending but I’m glad we have 2 more eps so I’m optimistic like DG that we will see a flower fully bloom and a real happy ending. Fighting!!!

    🌹 🌹 🌹 roses for all of you @GB, @Cleo, @Fern, @vasilisa, @Lei, @TY, @Moonstar. I wouldn’t have lasted this far in this drama without you.

  88. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I second @Janey, my agapimene friends,
The reason this cryptic show (which has made many viewers throw up their hands in disgust) so much fun, is because I watched it with you!

I look forward to your views @Janey!

@vasalisa @Fern I love how you’ve added more (even obvious stuff!) that I missed to the analyses.

You’re right that we willingly suspend our disbelief with this show, because so much of the production (even much of the writing!) is so good.

When you put it that way that MM, is a flower that is grown, the way GD grows human flowers, – and how as ‘that child’ he has become a good boy and now, by self-sacrifice, has shown that he has become an adult as well, ie. he’s now qualified to become human, – it becomes so obvious!!!

In Episode 8, MM reads the open book:

Pinocchio : “How did you become an adult so quickly?”
    Fairy : “That’s a secret.”
P : “Please tell me. I also want to become an adult. I’m still just a kid.”
Fairy : “But you can’t become an adult.”
    P : “Why not?”
Fairy : “Because you’re not qualified.”
P : “I hate it. I’m sick of living as a puppet. I want to grow up and become an adult.”
Fairy : “You can become an adult. But first you need to become qualified.”
P : “What do I need to do?”
Fairy : “It’s simple. You just always need to try your best to be nice.” (To be a nice kid.)

All the points from @Cleo, @vasilisa et al on sacrificing self for one’s beloved comes to the fore with MM. He follows in the august footsteps of Lee Yeon in TOTNT, even of Han Tae Sul in Sisyphus, and Kim Shin in Goblin/Guardian: TLGG, and they did not end up lonely forever.

I like @Fern’s impression that GD’s touch (twice) on DK’s face might have been healing of her tumour. Just as she revived the wilted tulips, she might have done something so that DK could live a long life, as MM wanted her to.

Now I feel like I have to re-watch to appreciate the mirror scenes. LOL.

  89. Yes Janey, GB, I’m also happy that we are watching this drama together.
    :’) :’) :’)
I’m sure that not many people out there analyze this drama as deep as all of you here (the lovelies darlings squad). Especially for transcribing the important scenes and giving us the alternate subs which really helped us in understanding their conversations. (Thank you very much @Cleo x @GB!!)
I’m really grateful for you and this thread..

@vasilisa: Yup, I’m also expecting the happy ending for this drama. I have been preparing my heart for sad or open ending, but this week’s episodes give me so much hope. Hahaha, wish the writer-nim will give us the beautiful present next week.

  90. Kalimera my agapimenes, darlings and lovelies!

I am going to answer to all of you!

@moonstar512 SIG is my new favorite actor! I amazed by his professionalism!
I am giving you a treat!

    This scene killed me too!

    @Fern,
I believe that the pot was in the Garden, since the deity girl vanished from the hospital, where else would she go?

As for the happy ending, I believed since the beginning that the ending would be open, but I feel that if they can somehow be together in any condition that is enough for me.

    @Fern, @Moonstar512, @TY, @Vasilisa and @GB
When I read “deep longing” I was in awe. Mostly because DK aka deep longing met Myul Mang aka Kim Sa Ram aka Human

If you follow my train of thought:

=== Deep Longing to be Human — > Pinocchio reference !

So, what you were talking about yesterday is valid. The names give out the hidden meaning!

    @Janey
Thank you for mentioning about the Easter Eggs! I wanted to write something positive about the ending and you gave me the idea to analyze it a bit more!

I am glad that you all liked it and it eased your mind!

I forgot to mention the Hotel De La Luna tv-series, that I haven’t seen myself. I know though, that they have a bittersweet ending over there as well!

@GB, #DAYS makes us ponder a lot about Life. That’s why I really like it!

I am grateful for all of you.

I am glad that you enjoyed my thoughts and analysis, having @GB being active in transcribing all these scenes as well, helped me a lot, mostly because we are at the same wavelength in many things! She is my yin to my yan and vice versa!

Let us enjoy the last two episodes of “Doom At Your Service”.
We should do a party afterwards! It was pleasure to be here with all of you! <3

  91. I think there is high traffic on B.O.D, because my answer to all of you, it is not posted… 🙁

  92. @Packmule3,

Can you see if my comment went to spam? I added some gif links, maybe that’s why?

  93. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Here’s another reaction video by the 2 Korean girls. They are quite fun to watch and at times some ‘other’ meaning in the dialogue becomes clearer from what they say. For instance when DK was deliberately hinting and baiting Lee HK in the cafe, the words she used had double meanings… ‘submerge’ and ‘ghosting’ used the same word. LOL

  94. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Oh WOW! Thanks @Cleo! With those gifs we can see the nuances of SIG’s expressions and the one where he said “You’re human” was so filled with pain, regret, deep longing … *sigh*

I’m going to be gif watching now.

And double WOW! A Deep Longing to be Human. So apt! Plus Doom with that look of deep longing for DK, and the human DK with a deep longing for the remarkably human Doom. Triple whammy! 😉

  95. I’m just now catching up on all the Doom Eps 13-14 commentary. I was preparing for a trip on Monday, then traveling on Tuesday, so didn’t get a chance to watch both of these episodes until Wednesday. Thank you, darlings and lovelies, for all the mind, heart, and soul you’ve put into understanding this drama and sharing that understanding with others.

It kind of baffles me that LHK can have such a likeable personality yet be so cruel in his behavior, abandoning the girl who loves him because of his pride. His backstory, when revealed, made me angry at him: his hiding in the apartment as his spurned and grieving girlfriend cried outside day after day; his misrepresenting having moved to Japan when he actually was there only a few months, then returned to Korea. He was so afraid NJN wouldn’t like the real him, the one who isn’t academically gifted, that he spent a decade avoiding her while knowing she didn’t have closure on their relationship.

I also don’t understand how NJN could have clung onto a failed relationship in such an obsessive manner. Was it pride on her part, upset at having been dumped and ghosted? It is sad to learn that she hovered in his old neighborhood, at his old subway stop, as well as adopting his name as her writer’s penname. After his abrupt departure from her life, her whole identity for a decade was wrapped up in LHK.

It was a dose of reality when both NJN and LHK realized that they no longer know each other as the people they’ve become in the intervening years. LHK asked for a re-start, saying that as a competitive swimmer he’s comfortable with that concept, but the truth is that once trust is broken, is is very, very difficult to make whole again. His immature behavior toward NJN, running away from her rather than working through his problems with her by his side, shattered her. She might be able to forgive him, but fully trusting him may not be possible for her.

I liked the visual components of the scene when LHK and Cha are talking while sitting on the benches. They’re on the ends of two separate benches, so there’s space between them despite it not being a great distance. They’re disconnected. LHK is in dark clothing, and Cha is in light clothing. In old Westerns on black & white TV, bad guys wore black, and the good guys wore white. I also note that NJN is often dressed in the same tones as Cha: unintentional (on their part) couple clothing.

LHK and Cha have different takes on what is happening to their friendship. LHK says he and Cha are currently in an argument; Cha tells his father they haven’t started fighting yet. LHK is angry; Cha is not. I did like the advice Cha’s father gave him: “Then fight. You won’t know who’ll win unless you do.”

And in the scene in the hospital, Cha puts his case before NJN so beautifully that my heart was melting for him.

LHK’s advice to SK was good. Don’t wait for magic. Do what you like. You’ll get better at it.

I agree with @Moonstar512 that the flower in GD’s pot, which she’s said is MM, will play some role in bringing MM back to DK. I think GD made her decision to stay alive and work on getting healthier because she knew Doom would leave the world. I can’t fully make sense of the theology of this drama, but I shudder to think what a world would be like lacking deities for both beginning and end.

To me one of the most moving scenes was the bait and switch of DK getting her hair beautifully styled, then asking for it to be shaved off. So brave. So heartbreaking.

DK’s anguish as she came to her last day, her insistence that it was all her fault, and her repeatedly saying “I’m sorry,” is because she had come to love MM the best. She knew, and feared, that he would die on her behalf. She wanted so desperately to not cause anyone pain, nor be left behind in despair. What a terrible dilemma. But as was pointed out in the thread above, MM had been planning for a long time to die on her behalf, even before their love for each other fully flowered. Before, MM wanted to die on her behalf for selfish reasons: he was tired of his existence, and wanted to get out of the eternal job he’d been given. Once the love grew between MM and DK, his motive for dying on her behalf was compassion: he wanted to save her through his sacrifice. And by that point, leaving DK was a tremendous sacrifice for him to make. His deepest wish had gone from ending an existence that felt empty to him, to wanting to spend forever in the fulness of a loving relationship with DK. He had no hesitation about binding himself in marriage to DK, as in marriage “two become one.”

  96. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Lovely @Welmaris, well-thought out and expressed, as always.

  97. Kalimera everyone,

Here is a BTS treat !

  98. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL @Cleo, I laughed so long and loud watching that BTS clip. Fortunately I had the room to myself for a while. That really worked my stomach muscles well. I’m still grinning. Love this twosome. Amazing always that actors can switch on the emotions in a split second.

  99. Hey my agapimeni @GB,

You have to see the other BTS as well, where the PD is telling Myul Mang how to kiss DK in her house… *winks*

Let me find this link for you too see *grins*

  100. @Welmaris, thank you for your post. You write so well – I loved reading it.

@Cleopatra, the actors are enjoying their time together. Some BTS seem very staged to me, but these interactions seemed genuine. I liked SIG practicing his trick throws of the phone to PBY, then scratching his back on the door frame like a bear.

  101. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Fern Me too… I love watching SIG being such a kid and then transforming into MM in a blink of the eye. It’s amazing they can keep a straight face after all the larking around they do in between and just before the highly emotional scenes. I always feel that PBY is so mature (although I know she’s 3 years younger), and that SIG is too young to be her oppa, LOL. I actually hear her calling him that in some BTS and it always surprises me.

  102. I do feel like PBY has a lot more acting experience than SIG, so she seems the elder. I want to see @Cleopatra’s videos with subs so I can enjoy the banter as well.

  103. @Cleopatra in the 2nd BTS, PBY gives SIG a daily acting validation in a reflection of his daily hand clasp in the drama. It’s such a funny video. I was able to see the subs for that one.

  104. Hi darlings and lovelies, agapimenes 🙂

So many good comments here! The only thing I can add is I like the goodbye scene between NJN and HK. HK decided not to flash his dashing smile again, contrast to the flashback in their high school days when HK flashed a dazzling boyish simile so full of sunshine. I remember NJN always moved by his smile (his good look). My view is that HK has started to grow up. He decided a relationship should not just base on a good smile anymore. It’s a beautiful and nostalgic closure for that relationship.

@Janey @Fern @GB @moonstar I like watching the second couple too. I felt Team leader Cha is quite swoony.

Thanks @Cleo for transcribing Hugo’s “The reduction of the universe to the compass of a single being, and the extension of a single being until it reaches God – that is Love.” I like the quote and it is great to read it here again.

@GB I felt the next step of the mentor for HK probably is for him to leave the shelter and find his own way. I remember HK borrowed Cha’s car to be pretentious and Cha allowed that. If Cha is a tough mentor, he should not “spoil” him by allowing that. Cha likes HK too much to be a good mentor. It’s good to see HK decided to move out.

It’s hard for me to connect to the parenting style in this drama XD. Funny you mentioned Cha is like Oscar statue haha!

Thanks for transcribing the reason why Cha did the kiss. I still think the kiss is 60% driven by his love of NJN.

Yes poor SIG had to say he is handsome so many times, without feeling embarrassed. Very professional indeed.

I suppose the use of the marble is to break the contract. But since they remembered everything, I guess they didn’t break the contract.

@Cleo I too was thinking that MM may come back like Lee Yeon. Like @Moonstar @vasilisa I think the flower is a big clue a happy ending can happen in the next two episodes. Thanks for sharing the BTS videos. It’s always interesting to watch BTS. We can catch a glimpse of the actors ‘real personalities vs their roles.

I personally don’t mind NJN to go with Cha since I am moved by his swoony lines. He loves her for 10 years and he has the best intention to help her to be a better writer. It is difficult thought with HK between them. Let’s see if they can work it out in the next two episodes. A waiting gap is good as it serves Cha right for lying too.

I am optimistic about the ending!

  105. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Viva, glad you’re joining us even if a bit late.

Your thoughts were also my thoughts about Cha mentoring Lee. He was too indulgent towards him and so Lee knew if he kept asking (maybe even using aegyo *cringe*) he’d get whatever help he wanted. For instance, the way he got Cha to answer NJN’s texts. He also knew that when he failed, he’d have a safety net, because Cha would always provide a home and protection. The other thing was that Cha never protested when Lee blamed him, -fairly or unfairly – for the way things turned out.

But rather than kick him out, Cha patiently waited for Lee to realise on his own, that he had to leave. I wonder if that was the double meaning in that last conversation of Ep 14 when Lee said he realised what it was like to wait for him. To wait for him to grow up as well as for the usual daily washing to be done.

(I’m thinking again about the analogy with GD who also waited. I’ll post that separately.)

I guess we can attribute to Cha, the virtue of patience. He waited and wanted to concede NJN to Lee, at the time he said that he would ‘bow out’, but he somehow changed his mind and now he has to wait for NJN to make up her mind. So more waiting for Cha.

Besides Lee Yeon in TOTNT, Goblin‘s Kim Shin also disappeared (dissipated in ashes… I think Doom’s way is neater ie less mess flying about LOL) and was able to return with Eun Tak’s wish. I had hoped that instead of Hotel del Luna, the show DK watched in hospital could have been Goblin, LOL. However Man Wol also left willingly like MM and she did not forget Chan Sung, but returned in dreams or in some form. So the return of MM is highly possible and anticipated.

In the preview, I noticed that DK was circling the 4th June. So she has lived beyond March 3, into June. I hope that means that she’s beaten the tumours or they vanished and that when MM returns, they can have a normal length life together.

  106. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Many Metaphors
I notice this in several kdramas (for eg. TK:EM, It’s Okay to Not be Okay, etc), Show is not satisfied with just 1 or 2 main metaphors, but has several. Sometimes they get confusing when they seem to overlap.

    The Garden
I wanted to think more about the red bracelet metaphor but found that the garden metaphor got in the way.

Episode 13 reminded me that MM always wanted GD to do something about evil people. He went around like a vigilante and ‘punished’ evildoers. GD in Ep 1 refused to do anything. She said she planted the flowers and would just wait “with all my (her) heart”.

GD : “Some don’t even get to sprout. And some bloom late. Some wilt away quickly. Some turn out to be medicinal, and some, poisonous. And some plants will kill everything around them. Is that my fault?”

MM : “Pull them out. Plant only good plants. And cherish some plants more than the others.”

We find that GD does that with MM. At first she says that he’s only a butterfly for the flowers in her garden …

MM : “Then what about me? What is my position in your garden?”
GD : “You’re a butterfly. For the flowers in my garden.”
    ….
MM : “Darn those flowers. – … – It’s about time they wilt away.”

But later, we see that GD also treated MM as a plant whom she patiently waited for. He was the plant who bloomed late, who appeared poisonous, but in time, with the right nurturing (from DK) actually was medicinal.

The garden is the human world, and GD’s stance was that the Earth should be left to continue as best it could while she took on the worst of its ills and kept it going by dying (and being reborn) in place of humanity. MM’s stance was that the flowers should all wilt away.

So GD and MM were at odds with each other over the fate (small ‘f’ because it is not the overriding ‘power’ or Fate) of the world.

    The Red String Bracelet
To me, it symbolised the contract. It was given by MM to DK, symbolising that he bound himself to her by the promise to keep her from pain. He was supposed to keep coming back to her by 12 midnight. I felt that this was the true and proper metaphor for their contract, because he also said that it ensured that she did not run away.

It denoted that he had in place his plans to doom the world through DK. Hence, he was wary that GD would take issue with that bracelet or take it away from DK. GD wanted the world to not be destroyed, but the contract challenged this. MM didn’t want GD to interfere with his plans to doom the world.

When DK broke the bracelet, she was threatening MM: ‘If you run away without letting me see you, I’d rather suffer. I challenge you to break the contract and let me suffer.’ She was angry because he had come only when she was asleep and had not let her see him.

He felt compelled (goaded by GD) to return to MM.

GD : “Good. Don’t go. You decided not to see her. Good call. Don’t ever see her again. Whether she dies or lives, don’t see her again. That’s how you should live. Do you think you can live like that?”

GD was being ironic and sarcastic.

MM returns and later ensures that DK gets back the bracelet, or gets another one. As long as they both continued to accept the terms of the contract, it remained in force and the bracelet remained meaningful to DK, even when she could not recall why.

    The Marble
I thought that was enough metaphorically, but then GD comes up with her own item. She gets a marble and infuses it with meaning.

The marble looked like a swirling universe, like the earth from space or like the sky with meteors streaking through it. GD claimed that DK had to protect the marble or what it symbolised with her love. My guess is that it represents the world because of what GD says below in italics.

GD kidnaps DK and says to her : “You will become heartbroken no matter what you choose to do. Whether you make the world come to an end or kill someone you love in order to live. But you see, I love him too. That’s why I did this.”

GD mentions making the world come to an end. And later when DK asks what GD wants from her, GD takes from DK’s pocket the marble that she had given her.

DK : “What’s that doing here?”
GD : “What do I want?
GD holds out the pot plant and the marble, as if she might consider giving DK a choice, but she does not.
GD : What about you? What do you want?”
GD passes the marble back to DK : “The fate of everything that’s inside depends on your love. Isn’t that scary? You should no longer be miserable because of him. That’s what I wanted to tell you.”

I believe GD meant that the fate of the world rested on how DK loved.
    1) She had to love the world enough to not want it to be doomed.
    2) She had to love someone else the most and risk losing that person.
    3) She had to love herself and decide to live.

So what did GD want from DK? She wanted her to protect the world. In the end, it was MM who promised GD that he’d make sure DK protected the world.

The great irony… he originally in Ep 3, wanted her to love him so that she’d want to doom the world for him. But the tables turned when he loved her.

    In Ep 8 MM says

“Tak Dong Kyung. Like me. It’s ok to like me. I don’t care about anyone but you now.” You don’t have to wish for it. That’s my answer. So …So choose yourself and the world.”

” He ended up loving her so much that he wanted what would make her happy, ie that the world should not be destroyed and that she should live.

And when MM in Ep 14 said goodbye to GD…

GD : “Why did you make such a stupid promise?” (I guess she refers to the promise that the most loved person would be doomed.)
MM : “I guess it was something I had to do.”
    GD : “What?”
MM : “Keep my promise, protect her, and protect this world.”

” MM ended up protecting the world, because DK loved him and her love got him to become loving and compassionate himself. So it was appropriate that MM had held that marble for a while. It had indeed been protected by his love and DK’s love.

In Episode 11 DK takes the marble out of her pocket, showing it to MM.

DK : “I got this from the girl at the hospital. She said everything inside this depends on my love. She asked me if I was scared. I was scared. But I’m not scared anymore.” She puts the marble into MM’s hand and looks at him : “I’m not scared anymore.”

Immediately after this, she’s miserable that auntie feels betrayed and truly, because she’s not scared anymore, she accepts GD’s offer.

When DK accepted GD’s offer to have the 3rd Reset, DK in effect had chosen to save the world, to save MM while sacrificing herself. So the marble did not need to be protected anymore. It broke and fell. I watched that scene in slow motion and saw that even before the marble hit the floor, it was broken in pieces. The sound it made was not a crash of 1 item smashing, but a tinkle of pieces bouncing on the floor.

    The Butterfly
Both GD and MM confirm at different times that MM was made for humanity and in particular for DK. The butterfly was meant for the flowers in the garden. Conversely the flowers gave the butterfly purpose. DK was also special and specially made for MM so they inevitably were drawn to each other and came to remember each other. This was Fate.

It’s interesting that MM is a butterfly, because butterflies don’t kill plants, they help pollinate and bring more life to the garden. In effect, death is good for life.

    Pinocchio
MM had felt his life to be meaningless. He was forced to exist, to observe the ending of things at the proper time. Childishly he was petulant about his role where he had less agency than he liked. GD in the role of Gepetto/fairy waited for MM to go through his adventures and to learn how to be self-sacrificing. He became a nice/good boy, and eventually an adult.

As mentioned elsewhere or above, Lee’s trajectory was similar. Cha waited for Lee to grow up, and ‘leave the nest’. By letting go, by accepting responsibility for valuing his pride more than NJN’s welfare, and coming clean, Lee was becoming a good boy and an adult.

    Fate, Balance and Good Endings
When GD described herself as an old order of the world, we can understand ‘order’ to mean that there’s balance. Life and death, night and day, beginnings and endings …GD is invested in the well being of the world, and this is balanced by MM who sees to the end of things at their proper time. Balance has to be maintained. MM when he forced that contract upon DK, was bringing disorder and imbalance.

However when he grew to care for 1 human person, he also gained compassion for humanity. In Ep 11, MM darts forward to save a boy from being hit by a motorbike.

DK : “Are you allowed to do that kind of stuff.”
MM : “No. I’m not allowed, but I couldn’t help it because you were watching. Sometimes, I find myself being like you in things. Now that I love you, I sometimes find myself pitying humans, and loving them. I think I finally understand why she (GD) loves humans so much.”

So GD’s long wait paid off.

DK had seen in MM that he contributed to the balance, because when he enabled endings, it made way for new beginnings. In the case of Lee and Cha, we see that Lee is ready to leave home and to let Ji Na go. Lee says he is not running away, and he’s going to grab the spot if Cha lowers his guard. He leaves Cha’s home to strike out on his own. These are good endings.

NJN stopped writing the first story in order to start a new one. She ended matters with Lee and was open to considering her options. These were good endings too.

DK is told by MM and GD to accept her Fate which encompassed life/death/separation. MM’s death was a replacement for DK’s. It ensured balance.

DK was against this. She was told to embrace doom, ie the ending that MM wanted. Although she would not accept it at first, over time she would see that it was a happy ending. It was an ending that MM chose so it was good for him. It ensured DK would not be miserable over selfishly destroying the world. And the possibility of her recovery and long life was offered – we hear GD and MM telling her to live. So it was the best ending for her, while maintaining the balance.

MM even told her that as a human person, she could love again. Well, we expect that to happen when MM returns! So it was a good ending, although painful. In other words, painful endings do not mean that they are bad. They may be fated and upsetting, but they can be necessary to give balance to life.

  108. Beautifully recapped, darling @GB!

I like what you wrote about endings and beginnings in relation to creating balance. We have commented a lot on the many do-overs in this show and I think it was a way to create the balance to get to the right ending in order to begin again.

As I said before, ep14 felt like an ending. Can’t wait to see new beginnings in the last 2 eps. like @Viva, I’m optimistic for a good conclusion.

Quick reference on butterfly, in some cultures, it can represent a dead spirit or ghost of a loved one.

Thanks my dear @Janey! I just needed to write it out to get it clear in my own mind. I’m actually redoing a summary of incidents that took place in the early episodes that came to fruition in the latest episodes… a hallmark of writing that was planned (even if many will argue it was not ‘good’). Although I’ll admit that the dialogue could have been less cryptic, I can’t say it was bad writing. On the whole it offered us a world of fun deciphering the connotations.

  110. Kalimera my agapimenes, lovelies and darlings!

I do hope you are all okay!

@Welmaris, I really liked your analysis about the second triangle!
We get to see how childish Lee was and finally he realized it, himself.

He lost everything, in order to gain himself.

As for DK, it was the most sad episode for us. She cried a lot, because she couldn’t change what would happen. I sympathized with her.

@GB, The promise MM made was:
“Love me, then I’ll die for you. I’ll save you.”
His promise to DK was to save her.
That was what the deity girl was referring to, when she asked him why did you do it!?

@Fern, I believe that SIG needs acting validation. I am elated by his acting caliber. The way he can use his face is everything. He can express sadness, joy, regret with gusto.

@Viva, I am into Lit myself. So, when I found it I thought that I should post here. Yes, I believe that Myul Mang will come back. As @GB posted above, Kim Shin also vanished and he returned.

Here we have the flower pot and we know that it is MM. How is he going to return?
That is we don’t know yet..!

@Janey, our @GB did a great job on those revisions!

Janey, ancient greeks believed that the butterfly represents the soul.
So, I believe that we saw, not only how MM’s true form, but also his essense.

I believe that balance is needed in order the Cosmos to continue to exist.
So, if MM vanished his deity girl / mother had to stay alive in order to quarantee that.

I also, believe that Myul Mang took the brain tumour from DK.
He told her that, I will take all the bad with me.

  111. @Cleopatra, I feel that most who have seen this drama will appreciate SIG. He has done an excellent job with a difficult character. I liked how PBY kept propping him up about his acting, which is something a good senior should do.

    Hi Lovely Everyone!
This was just put up on YT, a medley of all the OSTs with the relevant scenes. What a lot of work and well done!!
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFuw4brt8a8

I hope to find time to come back here. In the meantime, enjoy!

  113. @GB,

What an amazing medley! I loved it! <3
We get to know who wrote each song!
Much appreciation to everyone who got involved in the OST!

  114. @Fern,

I don’t know about the others, we can appreciate him though!
I didn’t understand what you wrote about the good senior.

SIG is her senior by age. He is older than her by 3 years.
Do you mean that PBY is a good sunbae to SIG as his senior in acting?

  115. @Cleopatra, yes, the latter is what I meant since she has so much experience. I think that SIG will get a lot of publicity through his acting here and in the film that is being released as well. I am happy for him.

  116. @Fern,

I am happy for him too! Yes, he plays over there with Cha!
I have read that it is their 3rd time playing together?

  117. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Here’s the Ep 13 and 14 reaction video of the 2 Korean girls. They are always such fun to watch, since we know the parts that they are reacting to. From this we get double confirmation that ‘Dong Kyung’ means ‘longing’ and I agree with them on the myriad emotions that SIG was able to portray in that short scene when he remembered and returned to DK’s house. His change in expression from the cold MM to the lover beholding his beloved was the highlight for me too.
