@pkml3, you remind me how in Ep 5 Chae Young Shin asks Park Bong Soo, ‘Are you ready?” as they escape Hwang’s place. He says, “Ready!” Then when YS charges forward, he hangs back to give more orders. That was one fine scene where Healer did his stuff without anyone present being the wiser.

    Thanks for the thread!

  2. I just pop here, before to go buy some food, coffee and shampoo. ^^
    Hello everybody !!! HaPpY rEwAtCh.
Elevator scene ! And we know what happens after that… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. Hello there,

Although tomorrow is a special day. I will try to be online!

  4. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Heheheh! @WE, yes you’ve done your ‘homework’. So you know why we chose this episode.

@Cleo, may we know what special day it is? Do come online if you can!

See you both in 14 hours!!

    Episode 6 Brief Summary Recap

Healer gets YS to think he needs her to save him, when it’s the other way around, as he engineers their getaway from Hwang. Seeing that the detectives were around the corner, he leaves YS with them and evaporates. Det Yoon obtains YS’s report, never knowing that Healer whom he is after had been in his grasp.

JH parkours off to catch SS who’s after his car with Dae Young in it. He gets the info he needs from SS’s phone.

Dad Chae brings Yeon Hee to the police station but finds that the ‘powers that be’ had taken action, so that no one will attend to them. Because of YS’s article Yeon Hee was to be sued. She gets hounded by the press and defamed her as the perpetrator of false accusations. YS turns to MH for help.

Meanwhile Min Jae visits Moon Ho. We obtain more backstory: MH considers Myung Hee (and possibly Ji An) as his first love(s). He thinks he’s been living a very lukewarm life.

Healer tries to reach Ahjumma over the evidence he collected that can prove Moon Shik is the person responsible for Go Sung Chul’s death, and for framing Healer for it. Sabu is back in S Korea, casing the outside of Healer’s lair.

Ahjumma and Sabu are concerned that the knowledge of his father being accused of getting Gil Han killed and then committing suicide will hurt him. Ahjumma points out to Sabu that JH never abandoned anyone.

YS sends a message to scold PBS for not calling her after the Hwang interview fiasco. She also says she feels like dying, which brings Healer back into her presence.

YS is in disgrace with dad, since she got Yeon Hee into trouble. Park Bong Soo calls her, saving her from a scold. They have the ‘sisterly’ chat (in panmal) that reveals that YS has a crush on both Moon Ho and Healer. JH is stunned to hear this.

MH meets Elder in the pub where Kim Eui Chan is in disgrace. MS lies to himself and to Myung Hee that he needs more power to work for the right.

In response to YS’s call for help, Moon Ho buys over Someday News and the building it is housed in. JH is suspicious and jealous of Moon Ho

    Episode 7 Brief Summary Recap
Healer rebels against Sabu and Ahjumma who want him to lie low in Australia for a year. He does exactly what they don’t want, ie to hang around YS and to meet Moon Shik. JH has an added impetus after hearing YS’s confession that she has an unrequited crush on Healer, but he denies this to himself at first, thinking that he’s walking into a trap by going back to Someday News.

Moon Ho sets the Someday staff to work and starts coaching YS to do the interview of Kim Eui Chan in front of other reporters and on national TV.

YS has a panic attack in the office. She calms down after she is given her 2 tablets and holds on to JH’s arm. She finds it weird that she calms down quickly (muscle memory because as children she’d slept peacefully when she held on to JH’s arm?). JH realises that he almost gave himself away by knowing how many tablets she took. He also finds that Healer’s loneliness, not being recognised and wanting to be alone resonates with YS who had felt that way too.

MS starts investigating YS because MH is mentoring her. He also gets hapless Lee Jong Hoo, MH’s assistant to spy for him at Someday News.

Healer finds out that MH is the generous client who has given them the assignment to locate YS and had also asked Healer to protect her, especially from MS and the SS goons.

Backstory: we get a glimpse of the uncomfortable relationship that MS had with the rest of the gang because he let his jealousy over not being Myung Hee’s boyfriend, eat him up. (Fortunately the reverse harem at HP is not like this!!!)

Healer infiltrates Hwang’s home and hurts him enough to get the video recording evidence to convict Kim Eui Chan.

Healer meets YS on the Someday News building rooftop and hands the video to YS. YS covers her eyes to ask without seeing his face, if he had taken her nails for a DNA check and if he was watching over her because they are biologically related (first they’re sisters, then he’s her dad LOL!).

JH wants Sabu to meet him by sunset, not knowing that Sabu has been close by as the cleaning ‘lady’ at Someday News. Sabu meets Ahjumma (both looking at their snazzy best in retro dress) instead of JH to watch the sunset and discuss about how the truth would out and could bring both happiness and hell.

We find out that Sabu had gone to prison without revealing the names of his friends, thinking that when he was released, he’d have a bunch of happy friends, only to find that 2 of them had died, 1 was in a wheelchair and only 1 had prospered quickly. He was therefore suspicious of MS.

Healer gets into MS’s home and threatens to slip in the contents of Go Sung Chul’s video into the live broadcast on national TV if GSC’s real killer is not turned in, to the police. Myung Hee comes to the room as Healer leaves so that she sees his face. She calls him by his father’s name, Joon Seok.

And we continue with Episode 8.

  7. Thanks for the recaps @GB! Count me in for tomorrowโ€™s rewatch. Favorite episode because of you know whatโ€ฆ โค๏ธ

  8. Thanks for the recaps GB! I will read it tomorow morning.
Just now (sorry I write without auto-translator), I’m currently watching episode 13!
Ok just one line : I disliked first episodes of the drama, but since the hero become a journalist, it was better, so, my quick review : I watch plaisantly the drama. The story is ok, with good old school melodrama (really the basic of any kdrama, without that, it look flat). And the screenplay is good, as we can testity when we commented last episodes.
SO…….. episode 13 : there is a new way to push the limit !!!!
Yeah : remember… the heroin don’t know who is healer (so, she has hidden kiss on roofs with a stranger, hu hu hu).
But now… She guess Park Bong Soo is the healer, when she’s at the hospital. So, I need to read the screenplay about this scene. Because the feeling we get in this scene is really something, quite subtle. We fell the heroin don’t want to say she know he’s the healer (kind of she think he don’t wan’t people know it). So she don’t reveal she understand who he is… New situation ! The hero don’t know the heroin know who he is. lolololol !!!! Crazy romantics opportunitys here. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Hi @Janey and @WE

    @WE you’re progressing well.

How would you describe old-school melodrama? Is it different from modern style melodrama?

    About Pushing the Limits
Yes, isn’t it great that both parties know about the secret identity but don’t know if the other party knows that they know, and no one can broach the subject first because it’s something that’s supposed to be a secret? And there’s still another secret identity… because YS does not know that Healer is Jung Hoo…. and there’s still another layer of secret … because neither she not JH knows that they were childhood friends.

Also, just as in how in a normal romance there’s jealousy in a love triangle, but in this show it pushes the limits so the hero is jealous, but not just because of Moon Ho, he’s even jealous of himself in the alter ego of Healer. So there’s a quadrangle and he’s jealous of 2 people, one of whom is himself.

And in the makeover trope… usually it’s the Candy who gets the makeover or just one party who does … but in this show, both the girl and the guy get the makeover, and they change from being dorky reporters to looking fantastic. And they strut into the press conference as equals.

Such a refreshing show! Even after all these years.

  10. Kalimera my agapimeni @GB,

It is very easy actually. I have said so in Sisyphus thread about today… *winks*

  11. Agapimeni @Cleo – is it your official graduation? Trying to remember what you shared in Sisyphus since we were quite Ina loop then. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Agapimeni @Janey,

    Kalimera. It is my birthday.

I share the same Birthday with Han Tae Sul / Nicola Tesla and Gong Yoo!

  13. Happy happy birthday agapimeni @Cleo!!! Now, I remember this trivia you shared before. Cheers!!! ๐Ÿฅ‚ ๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒธ

  14. @Cleo Happy birthday!!!

I remember your birthday is the same ad TS and Tesla. I was just thinking where would be the right place to say it.

May you have lots of yummy food and have a fun day. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’

  15. @Cleopatra, happy birthday! ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ˜˜

Same birthday with Gong Yoo? Love! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. @Cleo, happy birthday!

@GB, are melodramas different today? Good question… Already, my way of describing it was very vague. It’s a feeling.
A list of “oldschool” melodrama: Remember war of the son, King of baking, Shinning inheritance, I hear your voice, Queen of ambition.
It corresponds to a period of time, a way of filming, an aesthetic.

It requires elements of the style:
    – Flashbacks of unjust or tragic situations, but above all: simple!
    – No subtlety, no need to waste time explaining details.
    – Only impact and emotional power are aimed at.
    – Situations must be short and shocking.
    – Tear-jerking music.
    – Very expressive actors.
    – Lots of tears!

This is one of the first things I noticed when I started kdramas. And at first I thought they were overdoing it. It’s a melodramatism pushed to the extreme, using all means, even artificial ones (like adding a sad song).
There are only two solutions: either you adhere to the concept, or you find it off-putting.
I adhered to the concept because, simply put, I quickly found it very effective. Despite the barrage of exaggerated elements and unsubtle processes, it worked and I was quickly moved by the situations. My analysis was that these elements were therefore necessary to produce this effect. It has to be like that for it to work! So, it’s a good thing. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s hard to say if the time period is older or if this is used in dramas today.
Some recent dramas don’t use this, some fail to produce emotion for that matter. If we take “Sisyphus: the myth”, there are still scenes of this nature. The flashback when Tae Sul’s mother closes the bunker for example.
For older dramas, a drama like “Stairway to heaven” uses this even more.

I used this way in my screenplay. No other choice, the emotional depth is essential, but without slowing down the main plot. So, no question of being too subtle, of giving all the details. You have to convey the idea and the emotion in a powerful way and quickly.
    Examples, with flashbacks:
    Episode 2, scenes #8 to #10.
Episode 7, scenes #12 to #13. (#13 is one of the best)
Episode 11, which I just finished, very focused on melodrama!
Scenes #12. (crazy 51 step montage, new and a bit different from season 1 ones)
Scenes #15 to #25 ! (if you don’t cry here, you have no heart, lol)
This is the saddest episode so far, with a lot of cruelty. I wonder what it would be like when it’s directed, with the music as well. Certainly very hard to bear for the audience, at least I hope so. ๐Ÿ˜‰
There are other moving scenes in the story, but not using flashback, like episode 10, scene #10. Until the end of the drama, a high number of crying scenes. I’m just echoing the principle of season 1, the emotional roller coaster. Exhausting for the nerves!

I’ve become even more convinced by writing scenes like this. It’s almost magical. There is a doubt, when the scene is in its draft state. It’s rooted in the imagination and the feeling is already felt, but still not enough. Once the scene is written for real, it’s impossible to resist the urge to cry while writing the scene! So it works.
By the way, and this is another topic: writing a drama is a lot of fun, when you use what you see in dramas (otherwise it wouldn’t be a drama). Even some clichรฉs, and I don’t use enough clichรฉs (I know it’s weird to say that). I have a nice one, episode 4, scene #24. It’s a lot of fun to write, and the drama effect is immediate.

Coming back to Healer: the drama is effective on an emotional level. Not just the flashbacks, but the tons of melodrama-like scenes. Or the scenes with the heroine excited or moved because of the healer. At random, the scene in the cinema. It’s a simple scene, but there are some good details, like the end, when he takes her hand, hidden behind the wall. It’s the kind of detail that changes it into something better. It give the feeling the writer know how it will look on screen. What kind of emotion to convey. As for the scene when the heroine successed to make her interview, there was huge achievement feeling after that. I probably didn’t think to write something like that. So I’m curious to read the screenplay on this.

  17. Thank you my lovelies @Janey, @Viva, @agdr03 and Gent @WEnchanteur! ๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿธ๐Ÿง๐Ÿง๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŒท

Yes, @agdr03 that’s why Gong Yoo is the Ahjussi of my heart! ๐Ÿ’œ

@Viva Anytime is the best time for wishes! ๐Ÿ™โ˜บ๏ธ

  18. @GB, I learn something in your recap : end of episode 7 Mhyung-Hee call healer by his father name. When watching, I was thinking she call him by his real name. It’s not logic, but maybe I didn’t have time to read the subtitle or to remember the name of his father.

  19. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Aahhh my dear @Cleo, I wish you a Holy and Happy Birthday with the holiness and happiness to last all year through!!!

Of course! I totally forgot Tae Sul’s birthday LOL I was looking up what special festival it might be in Greece!!! LOLOL.

Yes, @Packmule3 It is my month, too!

    So far it is great!

    I am here too!

  26. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Dear @FGB I’m so glad to see you here and to know that you can stream the show today. We’ve got 2 more minutes!!

  27. I’m ready. The screenplay file opened (I started to read it since earlier)

  28. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo, I have Tiger Radler beer with me. I toast you on your birthday. Many happy returns and may you have good health and great resources of happiness!

And now … let’s go go go!!!

  29. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, did you notice that the actor changed from Jong Seok to Healer in the healer costume in the beginning?

  30. @GB,

I am going to drink a bit later! But Cheers! Thank you my agapimeni!

    Hello @WEchanteur!

  31. Iโ€™m here!!! Happy Saturday to all.

  32. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE you’re going to read the screenplay and watch and read us at the same time!!!???

Hi @Janey! Happy Saturday to you too!

  33. Scene #2 is a flashback (reminiscence).
But there is a problem in the script, the writer don’t indicate it. As she do it for some other recall scenes.
As I think the script is good about what it tell, it’s also a quite innacurate screenplay about format and rigor.

  34. Myung-Hee got it right.
It was Jun Seok’s son and MS will try to do harm on him.

  35. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE Maybe the reminisce was an add on during production?

  36. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo when we first watched this show, we didn’t know how it would end and I was worried that Myung Hee gave too much info to MS who’d get rid of all the kids ie YS and JH as well.

  37. Hello, All. Happy Saturday. Happy Re-watch.

  38. @GB, no ! This scene is in the script.
Until now, what I watch is exactly the script.
One detail : Healer is in a three. But the writer said also (or a fence). She specify that, in case the director can’t find a three.

  39. @GB,

I know. I was worried as well!

  40. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi there @Fern, glad you’re with us.

Here is Sabu finally speaking with JH just because he threatened to speak to Myung Hee. I wish Sabu was not so dismissive of JH and so careless in the way he teases. I guess it was partly his style and partly to hide his own discontent and feeling that something was wrong but he didn’t look into it.

  41. #8 National Road
There is YEONG JAE voice over.
Here the screenplay isn’t always accurate too, because it’s say “OS” like out-screen (a people in the room but we don’t see him), or OS for voice-over. But that’s not the same thing. ^^

  42. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I was so sad for the boy JH in school. He hears about his father so no point hiding the ugly truth. So much anger and hurt and no one giving him therapy or counselling.

  43. The boy actor is good !!! Damn, I don’t remember where else I saw him.

  44. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @WE so there are discrepancies.

We are at the site of the empty sea – so lonely for Jung Hoo.

  45. #13 Riverside
Here the writer want YEONG SHIN be off-screen.
There is no split screen and we don’t see her.
All her dialogs begin with (OS). ๐Ÿ˜‰
The writer know what she wan’t !!

  46. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE I seldom remember where I see actors. He must be so grown up now. This show aired 5-6 years ago.

  47. The scene of his childhood is so hard to watch. We just see his anger and him going further and further into a protective shell.

  48. @Fern,

    So true. It is sad…

  49. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Fern, yes. It’s the story of the broken children that took my heart. His teacher, Sabu was mistaken in calling his autistic. He didn’t make a good guardian. He was able to raise him to become an errand guy but never knew to see to his trauma.

  50. I think the husband is drugging the wife. Her not being fully aware of reality is a bad sign…

  51. You see, here the scene was perfect in the screenplay :
    #15 Reminiscence / Part 7 #46 On the Rooftop

    Next:

    #16 Someday Lobby Hall
With Jong Soo speaking about his sunbae.
The comedy effect isn’t too much (it could be more).
Also, Moon Ho come from behind.
In the script, we don’t see him appear until the last moment.
It could be a moment for letting Jong Soo say more stupidity and a comical effect when Moon Ho surprise him. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  52. I like how Healer changes tense in his explanation of his feelings after the phone call from Young-shin.

  53. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL, YS’s appearance… with that fountain hairstyle and crocs I think. It never occurred to her to be embarrassed.

  54. I liked Scene 16 in the lobby. It wasn’t overly milked for comic effect. Just enough, like milk in tea.

  55. @GB,

He tried to raise him as he knew. He didn’t know what to do about his trauma, so, he didn’t anything about it.

@FGB, She is taking many pills because of her conditions. I think that some of them make her drowsy…

  56. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FGB yes, it’s likely that Myung Hee is drugged to keep her calm and under control. Later we see that she stops taking her meds so much so that she can stay awake.

  57. What a heartbreaking childhood. He tried to commit suicide at a young age? That teacher talking about him when he was there that he cannot be helpedโ€ฆ argh!

  58. Here, I copy the “super cool” move of healer when he avoid Jong Soo :

JONG SOO – We’re having a secret meeting inside right now. So now it is forbidden to enter outside the officials.

Jung Hoo glances at Jong Soo and pretends to take a step aside. Jong Soo is trying to block him again. As if Jung Hoo knew the movement beforehand, he turned around and fell in the opposite direction and passed by. Jong Soo is uh… but looking back. Jung Hoo is already approaching the door of Moon Ho’s office. He approaches and quickly picks up a stack of notes from the desk next to him.

  59. I like how Healer avoided the maknae…LMAO!

  60. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE yes, nice move on Healer’s part.

@Fern, I like that later JH’s voiceovers state the things he didn’t care for in the past tense… because YS was in his life.

  61. #21 Preparation Room

Jung Hoo enters and speaks with Min Ja. Continue pouring coffee.

Ajhumma was full (OS) in the script, but the director choose to make split screen. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  62. Yes, @WE, that move was well choreographed.

  63. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Poor YS is embarrassed that she had asked Healer if they were related and if she’d meant anything to him. JH hears this and realises that she’s upset. She felt pathetic and absurd. This together with a later scene has in impact on his decision in the snow.

  64. @GB, posession is not love… D= .

Howard Jones – What is Love anyway

  65. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, I like this show’s use of split screens. It’s always great to see Ahjumma.

    Here’s poor YS feeling humiliated.

  66. The reaction of the actress was in the script!!

MOON HO – I have to protect it. You’re supposed to be my bullet catcher from now on. No matter how much infantry you cherish.
YEONG SHIN – (Something feels off. I step back and bump into something and stumble)

  67. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FGB MS was a most pathetic villain. He only managed to possess what he loved for a while and only had a semblance of success and power, also for a while. In the end he lost everything, even his mind.

  68. The director added a split screen of Jung Hoo looking in the room.

@FGB, what is love is one of my favorite song. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I like also other song from Howard Jones.

  69. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE Wow! This writer knows exactly what she wants! And the actors really follow the script!

Here’s MS starting to have his demons after him, closely watched by Elder’s minion.

  70. Moon-ho is so smooth, even when lying. I love Ahjumma’s reaction to his speech.

  71. I have forgotten how sad YS was in this scene. Marvellous acting from all of them!

  72. Here, nicely written ::

SECRETARY – Do you have any work to do?
MOON SHIK – What to do… (Thinking about something and shake it off) No. no. go out

The secretary bows her head and leaves. close the door
Moon Shik. unable to sit and stand. I feel cold sweat. Loosen the tie. that hand trembles stop memorable sound.

YOUNG MYUNG HEE (OS) – Find me by Ji An.

In the last sentence, it’s voice-over, then next scene continue the voice over. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  73. MS finds out that YS is Ji An. The same girl he left behind…

  74. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The backstory – really very affecting. MS really had no excuse for what he did or rather, failed to do. His expression shows how much he didn’t care to have YS found. Poor child. She’d not spoken at all because her mum had told her to be quiet and hide.

The demons in MS’s mind take shape as his friends. Guilt personified.

  75. Moon Ho treating YS like a little kid XD

MH’s friend is not the sharpest tool in the drawer ๐Ÿ™‚

  76. @GB, the writers always know what they wan’t, lol !!

    #32 Moon Shik’s Office
    ILLUSION SCENE.
I don’t copy all, Just read the script, it’s brillant !!!

  77. Very long monologue from the master.

    #35 Underground Bar

The old man is making a cocktail. Talking on speakerphone.

  78. @GB,

MS is awful indeed. He left behind this little girl, as you said sold his soul to the Elder.

I like that his guilt take shape as his friends. He now see Healer’s Dad.

  79. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

This is the strangest villain. He’s powerful but likes to be a bartender, standing behind the counter without any customers.

  80. Thanks for the script insights @WE! Even split screen notations are followed to execution on screen.

  81. #37 Moon Ho’s Office

Moon Ho is writing an email. This is an email to Hiller.

HERE, the writer don’t say the text of email should be also a voice-over. But I think anyway, for directors, it’s like a reflex. Anything written in a drama is always translated as a voice over. I will check W episode 8 when Kang Chul type, if it’s indicated as voice-over. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  82. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I like how because MH gives a warning to not make personal contact with YS, JH as Park Bong Soo as usual rebels entirely. LOL.

Here’s the poor spy who’s sidetracked by all including MH, JH, YS … I hope he gets enough compensation for quitting the public broadcasting company.

  83. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I love the Coffee Bay ahjusshis and YS together. So cute. So much joy and fun over the girl they saw grow up.

  84. So, answer is yes.
    #65. Penthouse Meeting Room (Night)
Here Song Jae Jung indicate precisely the character say the text he type on keyboard as a voice over.
    ๐Ÿ™‚

  85. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    PBS is so dorky LOL.

Here are the SS goons about to create the false voice of MH for Sec Oh.

  86. Healer was holding YS head all the way to her house…*cute*

  87. I love this ex-con’s bit. Healer is worried. Then puzzled, incredulous, then amused.

  88. @Cleo, the music changes to a cute love song once he starts holding her head.

  89. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo amazing that they can drive with just 1 hand. I can’t do that.

I love this camera test and mic test scene. It added more impetus to JH to do what he did later.

  90. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

JH was pleased to be like his dad in being good with machines.

Here’s the no personal contact clause/warning read out to JH so he breaks that immediately by making personal contact with his finger on YS’s forehead. LOL.

  91. @Fern,

I love this song very much! it is the theme for YS.

    @GB,

Yes, he was taking good care of her from the very beginning. Also, he followed his father’s steps!

  92. Bong Su and his dorky self. LMAO!

  93. Lol, I’m lost in the screenplay, I can’t find the exact scene we are. It’s a pity because there was a lot of cool stuff on screen… T__T

  94. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

It’s interesting that YS is never embarrassed with PBS. She can tell him anything and behave anyway with him.

YS’s mic test : “You’re watching a woman who’s been rejected by both of her one-sided lovesโ€ฆ.Her first love calls her a bulletproof shield, and the second love thinks of her as a delusional woman who wants attention. However let’s quickly forget as though it was a sad dream you had at night. Just like the darkness disappears with the morning sunlight. Let’s forget it. Let’s pretend like it never โ€ฆ” She has tears in her eyes.

This together with how she said she was embarrassed led to Healer’s decision on the rooftop.

  95. Awww, he holds her head while she sleeps and he drives. I also love her interaction with the excons uncles. SH is so cute dancing.

  96. YEAH, I found again.
    So cool sequence :

    #46 Cafe

Where Jung Hoo sees while touching the camera. Too bad, Yeong Shin is putting the record on the turntable. The music played by Yeong Shin begins to play. [Let’s Forget Song Chang-sik.] A song that plays without a Jeonju. Yeong Shin came this way and stood up and drew a V with a serious face towards the camera. I also cross my legs. Sometimes I stand sideways and turn around pretending to be bewitched.

JUNG HOO – What are you doing?
    YEONG SHIN – Camera test.

    “CAMERA TEST” SCENE ! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

I missed before, the finger on the forehead. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  97. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL Coffee Bay Ahjusshi was listening so hard he didn’t know he was over sugaring the cake.

  98. Details on the screen we get in the screenplay:

Behind them, Chul Min sees the two of them. On the plate in front of it, powder sugar sprinkled with Chul Min is piled up like a mountain on the toast.

    ^^

  99. @GB, and the over=sugaring coincided with the mention of first snow.

  100. @GB,

On Netflix I had slightly different subs!

  101. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Fern, really? I missed that mention of snow!!

  102. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo, yes, I believe Netflix will always be different from the fan subs.

  103. @Fern nice catch!

  104. It is Healer’s birthday today!

  105. Here a lot of small scenes interwined. It make a lot of scenes !!

CHI SOO – (chasing up the stairs and nagging) Do you have a hat? Tighten your scarf properly.

    _________________________________________________
#53 Chi Soo in front of the cafe

YEONG SHIN – Kyungmin cargo crossroads? Yes. I know where it is.

    #54 Sang Soo’s Computer Room

Hacker is typing while looking at the text screen on his cell phone

    etc………

    The script is nervous !!!

  106. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The tendency of hoobaes to be obedient with their sunbaes plays into the hands of the bad guys. YS actually turns off the phone.

Sec Oh bothers to get a warning sent to MH.

  107. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo Yes, nice coincidence about birthdays!

It is supposed to be in Dec though, but since we are rewatching today, we can say it’s Healer’s birthday today.

Poor kid, he was finally smiling thinking that Sabu remembered his birthday but he never gets a chance to eat his cake.

  108. This man gets on my nerves. How dare he? How rotten are these people…

  109. We are here :

    #64 car interior

Jung Hoo connects the car’s Bluetooth call.

Healer understand he have to save the heroin at PAJU.
So like all drama hero, he don’t car about driving lessons…

A red dot (flashing) started to appear on the map. Jung Hoo, starts the car abruptly and makes a hasty U-turn.

  110. Finger on the forehead as personal contactโ€ฆ like ET.

SH doing camera test and doing poses. LOL! Because she is upset, she does her monologue.

Uncle is eavesdropping and over-sprinkling sugar on cake. Cool to find that detailed out in the script, too!

  111. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Here are a whole bunch of scenes of people trying to gain access into buildings. Sabu at Healer’s lair and the others at the building.

One thing about YS, she is not easily put off anything even if it’s scary… like being alone in an empty building. I’d have asked for the sunbae to meet me downstairs!!

  112. @GB,

So very true. I really like dorky Bong Soo here.
Ji Chang Wook is dashing in that coat!

  113. Damn, the screenplay is crazy. So many small scenes follow one each other. Very hard to follow with what we get on screen.
It’s damn good way to make the action more nervous.
    Good source of inspiration.

  114. We are already here :

But then suddenly it stops. I almost fell, so I just stood up. At the next moment, the interior lights of the elevator turn off all at once. dark.

  115. Happy birthday Healer and @Cleo!!! Great timing, isnโ€™t it?

  116. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo Yup Healer is delish in that coat!

Here’s the falling life scene. In actual fact I think it should have been almost pitch black but there’s light for the camera.

Later on I was wondering what the small light in the lift was when Healer entered it.

    So scary!!

  117. It’s too good, I copy some scenes, so you see how it go fast !!!

Yeong Shin, who was stuck in the dark corner, heard the sound. There’s a bang from below. Yeong Shin screams out.

YEONG SHIN – Please help me. There’s a person in here.

  118. I remember when I first watched that scene, how anxious I was about YS’s fate. I mean I knew that the evil secretary was messing with the elevator’s wires and I was anxious how it will played out.

    And then…Healer happened!

  119. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE Great tension building music, this part with Healer trying to find YS.

  120. Yes @Janey! Nice timing indeed! ๐Ÿ˜€

  121. Was secretary Oh a handyman in a past life? He seem pretty competent with elevators mechanics.

  122. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I marvel at this gloves as he goes down the wires. So cool!!
See that light, it’s part of his stuff. And then the rising through the lift shaft …. so cool!!!

And the best joke, she starts to scold him for risking his life! LOL.

I like how no matter what, she thinks of others first. Of PBS and here she thinks of Healer.

  123. End of this ::

The governor is finally separated, and the string that has been holding it in is unraveled.
/ The elevator goes down at a frightening speed. As the elevator goes down, one side of the line goes down and the other goes up with the pulley as the center. Jung Hoo grabs the other line and climbs up. hugging Yeong Shin. (Assuming you’re good at landing)

    NOW ROOF SCENE.
We know what happen next AH AH AHA!!

  124. Healer must have been wearing very strong gloves.
What he did could hurt his hands!

  125. YEONG SHIN – you are still there. … healer. Right.
    JUNG HOO – (only look)
YEONG SHIN – (Your voice is still trembling) I don’t know how….

    (voice trembling, LOL!)

  126. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    It’s the first snow!!!

“From the time I was left alone until now, I never expected anything from people.” (He was afraid of being hurt again so he expected nothing so that he would not be disappointed.) [Moon Ho arrives].
“Whether someone misunderstands or understands me, it didn’t matter to me at all. I was like that.” These expectations were now in the pastโ€ฆ he uses past tense.

He goes back to YS and rolls up her cap so that he can kiss her.

He didn’t want her to remain in the misunderstanding that what he did was because he’d been paid, and he wanted her to know that he was not her father or brother. He didn’t want her to feel embarrassed anymore. One kiss was to dissolve all these possible misunderstandings. All the feels!!!!

  127. This is rewatch is so โ€œrichโ€ in content. I am watching a bit later than everyone so I get to read @WEโ€™s script snippets and other comments before the scene and then Compare.

    This elevator scene is hectic!

  128. He has literally become the Superman that Ahjumma teased him about, flying up the elevator shaft with YS.

  129. The song on the last scene hit the target.
    So cool ending. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  130. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Fern, you said it right! He’s become Superman!

I too wondered about Sec Oh. He’s too good at the electronic stuff. Might have been an electrical engineer dealing with elevators before!

  131. This kiss! A Birthday Kiss exchanged in the first snow!

  132. She is a cherished girl XD . With such uncles I guess nobody dared to bully her XD .

  133. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I like that she could have pulled off the cap and seen his face but she never wanted to betray his trust.

  134. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I’m rewatching the end LOL. All the expressions on his face as he listens to her. At first she reduces what he did to a job he’s paid to do. He wanted to disabuse her of that idea too.

  135. @GB, I agree. She wanted to keep his identity protected as long as he wanted to as well.

    Such an amazing episode.

    Thanks, everyone.

  136. Beautiful episode ending!

    @WE – any script details on the kiss? Iโ€™m curiousโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜‰

  137. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Thanks @Fern.

I’m reading the script now… so much good stuff.

  138. I think that the weather didn’t cooperate with the filming schedule because the roads outside of the building in Pabu were covered in snow!

@GB, not only disabuse her notion, but validate her feelings, comfort her and restore her self-esteem. What a guy!

  139. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Fern @Janey here’s the script on the kiss:
“Jung Hoo turns around. He walks towards Yeong Shin. Yeong Shin stands still and listens. The footsteps of Jung Hoo approaching.
Jung Hoo, standing right in front of Yeong Shin, reached out and grabbed the tip of the beanie covering Yeong Shin’s face. Raise slowly. Over the mouth…and over the nose…just under the eyes, then stop. Jung Hoo puts his hands down. Yeong Shin waits breathlessly. Jung Hoo tilts his head and kisses her. That is Jung Hoo’s answer to Yeong Shin’s misunderstanding. Snowflakes fall on them in a rather small way.”

  140. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

So true @Fern, what a guy. Can’t help falling in love with Healer, myself!

  141. It was brilliant! I rewatched the Elevator scene as well!

@Fern he did all that, despite being antisocial.

I liked how the camera stayed some seconds on her lips before the kiss, so we knew that Healer was watching at them. we knew this would happen!

Thank you for this amazing rewatch! I am glad we had this party!

@Wenchanteur you gave us a lot of intel from the script! Thank you!

  142. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FGB Did you finished the streaming earlier?

  143. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

It was a great birthday, rewatch party! Cheers @Cleo!

Thanks for a fun party everyone! See you all next week or earlier!

  144. Thanks @GB!!! I rewatched the last scene with the descriptionโ€ฆ goosebumps!!! I love this scene.

@Fern I noticed the snow also at the rooftop only now.

  145. Thank you all! Cheers @GB!

  146. Yes, @Cleopatra, what a nice way to celebrate your birthday: daring rescue by a dashing man and roof-top kisses in the snow! I hope that the day continues well for you.

  147. I used to say I was learning from bad screenplays (the mistakes not to make), but here it’s cool to also learn from a good screenplay (the things to do). Apart from the problems of rigor (many, such as the lack of day/night indication), it’s very inspiring.

I just have some suspenseful and action scenes to fix soon. I remember that my cutting is already well segmented. It’s probably something that feels instinctual. But thanks to Healer, I have a way to think about it more. Maybe more cutting is still needed. If the action allows it of course, it’s not to produce an artificial effect. But there are certainly points of tension to be reinforced in this way.

In this episode, we also saw a lot of “cool” stuff. Rule of cool. An index finger on a forehead, a very daring camera test. A lot of details that make it more funny, more surprising. Here again, you should not lose the opportunity to insert this kind of thing. Always the same, if the scene allows it. But for any scene that is a bit flat, it should be thought out. Here, there were many scenes in the cafรฉ. Without this kind of element, the episode would have been more bland.

Finally, last scene, also very inspiring in the way of building a very romantic and enchanting scene!!! And it’s really written and think like a drama scene. We don’t get this in western series or movies.
There is even the voice over of Jung Ho when he change his mind, then, leading to the kiss. And… the snow !! AH AH, it’s dense. Full of details. The romantic effect and the way it occurs is in the writer mind. There is only drama writer to have that so much.

  148. A First snow kiss =D

Moon Ho almost spilled the beans.

  149. @Janey, I copy-paste the last scene.

    #98 Rooftop

Jung Hoo (from the machine room?) supporting Yeong Shin. Yeong Shin’s beanie hat is down to her chin. Jung Hoo carefully removes Yeong Shin’s supportive hand. Yeong Shin staggers. Jung Hoo. I’m reaching out and trying to hold you back. Yeong Shin shakes her arm roughly. Jung Hoo looks at him in embarrassment.
Yeong Shin raises one hand and grabs Beanie covering her face. Jung Hoo, (without wearing any camouflage) is nervous at the moment. Yeong Shin hesitates and lowers her hand again.

YEONG SHIN – (shouting in anger) You almost died. Are you crazy? Even if cancer is a job for money.
    JUNG HOO – (Looks ridiculous)
YEONG SHIN – Thank you for saving me. I know I bought it thanks to you. If we fell there together, we would have died together. What is it.

Jung Hoo’s gaze goes to Yeong Shin’s hand. Yeong Shin, the hands holding each other are shaking. Yeong Shin’s breathing is also trembling. I calmed down a bit though.

YEONG SHIN – Are you still here?

Yeong Shin raises one trembling hand and stirs the space in front of her. Jung Hoo moves his body a little to keep his hand out of reach.

YEONG SHIN – It’s still there. … healer. Right.
    JUNG HOO – (only look)
YEONG SHIN – (Your voice is still trembling) I don’t know how much the senior gave me. Still, I… owe my life. But I don’t have money, so I can’t pay this back with money. Sorry… Thank you.

Jung Hoo. I don’t want to hear more. turn around walks Then it suddenly stops. reach out your hand Snowflakes that descend and sit on the palms. look at the sky It is starting to snow.

JUNG HOO (OS) – Ever since being alone, I have never asked for anything from a human. So it was fine.

Jung Hoo looks down. under the building. Moon Ho’s car runs at high speed and comes to a sudden stop. I see Moon Ho running towards the building when I get out of the car.

JUNG HOO (OS) – It didn’t matter who understood me or misunderstood me. I did.

Jung Hoo turns around.
Jung Hoo tilts his head and kisses him. That is Jung Hoo’s answer to Yeong Shin’s misunderstanding. Snowflakes fall on them in a rather small way.

  150. Thank you @Fern!
    Yes that was awesome indeed!

I have to read the script as well… See ya all! Have fun!

  151. Where can you find script, character and scene analysis on kdrama? Only at BoD.

Now Iโ€™m wondering how HPL script looks like with all those red herrings and clues strewn in?

Happy weekend rewatch rangers!!! Thanks again.

  152. I think one of the things I liked most in this episode was watching Healer’s face as he listened in on the conversation between Moon-ho and Young-shin. Ahjumma was listening, too, but we only got her comment that reporters (MH) were scary, bringing him back to reality.

I wonder if Healer kept the bug there or took it away somehow afterwards…

  153. Dear @Janey, that is true =D . Thanks @WE for enhancing the experience. I guess the version at watchasian I was watching changes some words but the meaning is there. @Cleo, kalimera from Caracas!!! =D. @GB now I am going to read your Posts =D .

Thank you all for today!!! =D

  154. @Janey, it’s just luck, because we get that screenplay. We couldn’t do it with hospital playlist for example. It need a drama from we find the script. And there isn’t many.

Also, you can see the translation is bad. It’s the best I could get after reworking some part. But it was impossible to correct each line. So, sometimes, you get “him” instead of “her” and many mistake like that. But if you know the scene and watched it right now, you know quickly what are the translation errors. And you can still see how it’s written. The important is what the writer put in the script and we see on screen. And we can say, almost all.

  155. @Cleo, ยกยกยกFeliz Cumpleaรฑos!!! =D (I guess you don’t need a translation ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

  156. @WE, Howard Jones’ “Everlasting Love” is just fantastic!!!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWPhbwYQlB0

As is “Pearl in the Shell”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTRuoXEbvjE

    Just to name two =D

    But I won’t ruin this post’s flow ๐Ÿ˜‰

  157. @GB, the first time I saw the Elder I also thought of him as a strange villain… Then it hit me. He is the invisible chess player that benefits from moving his pieces. Do you know what are bartenders known for?, they listen to their customer’s secrets and fears. That is to say he manipulates his pieces through his knowledge of them.

    Interesting indeed ๐Ÿ˜‰

  158. Episode 8 does not disappoint my expectations. It holds high points for
different characters and certainly moves the storyline along.

Young-shin begins not exactly to doubt Moon-ho’s motives but to question his dealings with her. That’s good; she is removing herself slowly from his influence over her, although I think she’ll not manage to break from him entirely – he’s too much of the alpha male for that to happen.

Episode 8 has a second important moment when, standing by the icy lake, Jung-hoo looks into his world of isolation for the final time. After this point, he begins increasingly to populate his world with other people, notably with Young-shin.

The third, and I think most important high point is the crisis that Moon-sik experiences when he learns of Young-shin’s childhood experiences. Filled with realisation and remorse, he is open to dark visitations from his conscience – and I find it nicely ironic that the deeply flawed human being, Secretary Oh, misinterprets what’s happening to Moon-sik, wrongly reports the situation to the loathsome Boss, which leads to the entire elevator scene and the classic Errol Flynn style rescue of the fair maiden. I couldn’t want more.

Thank you to everyone for all the comments. @Growing Beautifully: I hadn’t realised that Jung-hoo works his two personas (Healer and Bong-soo) into a love quartet instead of a love triangle. It’s this type of detail that makes this series so attractive to me.

I’d love to know which cocktail the Boss is making. Is it a Singapore Sling?

  159. @Cleo, @Fern, @Janey and @WE, it has been a pleasure!!! =D

The scene where YS is teasing the camera was hot =D . Personally she felt more like a child in this Drama (in City Hunter the same actress was really hot, so KUDOS for the writer).

Loved how the first snow signaled the turning point where Healer decided to be more upfront his own feelings, and yes, that simple kiss unveiled so many truths to YS =D .

  160. @Juriel, this job ended giving Healer a lot of hurt but also lots of growth. It is a textbook exaple of “Growing Pains” XD .

  161. Thank you @FGB!

I totally got it no worries! ๐Ÿ˜€

  162. @FGB, now the thread is quite over, I can post this…
My favorite song of Howard Jones. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Why look for the key ?
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4la0F6vvHQY

The chorus is quite unpredictable and modulate. Many lyrism.
I know also the song you posted. I’m quite competent about best 80′ bands. ๐Ÿ˜‰
I was fan when I was young (well, I’m a bit old, you know ? ^^)

Check on youtube the duo with Nick kershaw, they sing together “wouldn’t it be good”.

  163. Arf, I just post the link, so you don’t need to search :
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amD2G9Kuu10
I prefer the official version, but here, you have a live feeling of friendship.
Old friendship, old guys from the same age. So good. Goosebump!

  164. @WEnchanteur, loved it!!!, and as usual with Mr. Jones it gives a very possitive message: do not look for happiness in another person but you =D .

I have so many things to comment with you on HP2, but will Post in it next week ๐Ÿ˜‰ . But basically:

At the beginning my worries boils down that the shippers in HP2 are trying to force the writing and directing team to cater to their tastes instead of following what we consider the natural development of actual relationships just because they are the bigger mob, but it increases as I see such an attitude spilling towards music, cinema and other Arts. It is a force that wants to see everything catering to their appetites but not giving a damn about character growth or life lessons. It is most apparent in American media (as a Venezuelan we are under their cultural influence) but it is a mediocrizing force.

I see a lot of cut-and-paste products in the cultural shelf, and as someone living in a leftist dictatorship the signals of boredom, repetitiveness and censoring (or self-censoring) are evident.

My question (sorry for the long introduction!) is: it is correct my interpretation?… and furthermore as someone inside that world: what is your opinion?, is it cyclic?, what can be done?.

Thanks for introducing me to a great song and would love to read your insights! =D

  165. @Cleopatra, I belatedly wish you a happy birthday and much ji in the year to come.

I missed being with you all for this rewatch, but I’m at our mountain cabin with my husband and younger daughter this week; she flew down from Seattle. Because my computer desk & external monitor are in the guest bedroom, which is occupied, I didn’t have the setup I needed to watch on one screen and type comments on the other. Also, I was up late the night before. For the first time since the pandemic began, I hosted guests for dinner. We were joined by the people from the cabins on either side of ours. The funniest part of our conversation over dinner was when they traded stories of having bats wander into their cabins and what they did to try to entice them back outdoors. I must take note! Tonight when I went out on our deck to look at the stars, a bat flew over my head. At least I think it was a bat. It was about the size of a jaybird, and flapped its wings, but was completely silent.

I’ll be back to write some commentary about this episode of Healer after I get home tomorrow.

  166. @Cleopatra, I wish you joy, not ji…unless you’d rather have ji, whatever that is…

  167. My dear @Welmaris,

Thank you for the wishes! I realized that you meant joy! So, no worries.
If you wanted to write about my chi, then ji makes sense too!

I am glad you had time out in the cabin! Boo to the bats! I have seen bats in the countryside, but I cannot imagine how I would feel, if it flew over my head.
From what I know they are not attacking humans. Still…

  168. @FGB, I don’t watch HP2 and your other topic is too big to discuss. I wouldn’t know where to start and it would take pages. Sorry!
I can only note that we have in common a sharp vision of the general psychic pool, its corruption and its inadequacy with the authenticity of the human heart and mind.

  169. @WEnchanteur, oh man… D= . I remember a short cartoon strip of Prince Valiant. In it only Prince Valiant and a friend were in the queue to exchange soothing lies for cold truths, while there was a long one of people seeking for those soothing lies and trying to unburden their cold truths.

My last question, that I didn’t post was, “what can I do?”.

I guess that puts me in the role of an odd Pandora keeping hope in the box XD .

BTW: HP2 is excellent, but it breaks my heart that the directing, writing and acting team created a remarkable Course on Ethics and Politics (in a Greek Philosophy sense) disguised as an Hospital Procedural Drama… only for people in general to watch it for the Ship Wars which was only meant to be a hook.

Anyways, in two paragraphs you gave me a lot to think about. Many thanks!!! =D

  170. 80โ€™s was a magical musical time!!! Thanks @WE and @FGB for the vibe and trip to memory lane. I have a good ear for music but not good with song titles and artists but thanks to YT, I was able to see links of the works of the 2 artists mentioned. I know โ€œEverlasting Loveโ€ and remember seeing the MTV with those 2 mummies. And the unplugged version of โ€œWouldnโ€™t it be good โ€œ was beautifully nostalgic but I had to look for the original version of the song because the sound is different from what I heard when I was growing up. Hahaha.
