The mission card: each one was supposed to write a nickname on his/her co-star’s headband to describe the role/character played by the cast member.
The IkJun actor (sorry, I won’t remember names) wrote the description for JW actor.
JW actor wrote the description for JWan actor.
JWan actor wrote the description for SH actor.
SH actor wrote the description for Songhwa actress.
Songhwa actress wrote the description for IkJun actor.
Songhwa actress described Ikjun actor as “nosy.”
The actor immediately wanted to guess his description, but the director warned him that he only got once chance to answer correctly. So, the other cast members gave hints.
JWan said that the word was exactly Ikjun.
JW began describing “nosy” by body language. And IJ immediately stopped him, saying confidently, “Okay. I got it. I got it. I got it.” (He said “arass…arass…arass…sooo.”)
SH gave the third hint and said that he was snoopy. SH actually gave a good clue which he regretted it instantly.
This IJ actor was supremely confident that he knew the right answer so it didn’t surprise me at all that he got it wrong.
Like actor, like character??
He answered “freak” when it should have been “nosy.” The Songhwa actress thought his character was nosy.
JW’s turn came next. His description was “brainy.”
Everybody gave their hints but the interesting one was Songhwa’s. She said, “You’re more like this in real life.”
Hahahaha. To me, that was the actress’ honest assessment of Yoo YoonSeok’s character. JW wasn’t brainy in the story. And hey!!! That’s what we’ve been calling him, right? “Pabo”? He’s PB = Pabo Guy. As long as he’s dating that Jang, he isn’t using his brains to discern between a dud and a treasure.
As for Songhwa’s description, JWan said that she got this nickname AFTER the series.
As soon as JWan said that, she guessed the correct answer, “parrotbill” or baepsae.
Now, I don’t think the subber got the complete meaning of the word.
Yes, a baepsae is a bird. Yes, it’s a cute fluffy bird.
But it’s also associated with a Korean idiom, “A baepsae will break its legs trying to walk like a stork.” Since a baepsae has short legs, and a stork has long legs, a baepsae has to take long strides to catch up with the stork. In other words, a person who’s similar to a baepsae must work very hard to get what she wants so much so that she risks breaking her metaphorical legs.
From what I read, too, the boy band BTS released a song entitled, “Baepsae.” According to the song, a baepsae symbolized a person who wasn’t born rich and would struggle hard to attain what came so easily for the elite in the society. But a baepsae had no choice but to work hard to get what it wanted.
I find this interesting because:
a) one of our definitions of villains was hardworking. Right? Songhwa was determined to be the best “villain” in the hospital.
b) Songhwa was Mommy-Short-Legs in the drama.

The shorter Mommy Short Legs said she ain’t a chaebol like the taller Daddy Long Legs. She doesn’t have lotsa money to fund the DLL.
Tall = Daddy Long Legs = Chaebol = Stork
Short = Mommy Short Legs = Not a Chaebol = Baepsae

She also recounted to IJ in Season 1 that her father didn’t want to buy hearing aids (?) unless there was a discount/rebate.
Remember when they were given contracts to service the VIP wards in Season 1? She was the first one to understand the terms and conditions. So I wasn’t surprise that when signing the bank loan, she was going through it with JW.
@packmule3, not only we are fine with that. PG is also fine with it because money is not an issue for him. He is going to source the fund because he needs her for something far more important than as a fund provider.
If the fangirls are thinking their petty princess is gonna be that source of fund then they should recalibrate his motive for getting under her skirt at the first place, no? 😏😏😏 Me think these girls watch too many makjangs. Oh well, they love insincere relationship, one with hidden agenda. Who am I to complaint. 🤪
Baepsae is such a good nickname both for the character and the actress. I’m really pleased for Jeon Mi Do’s success and am looking forward to her future roles.
Baepsae…I can just picture Mommy Short Legs walking double time to keep up with Daddy Long Legs. Truth is, aside from physical stature, SHwa stands eyeball to eyeball or towers over JW.

I’ ve seen the video and LOL. Thanks for the baepsae reference. It goes along with SHwa given that, as she said herself to JW, she doesn’t come from money. Thus, Shwa become the “villain” to match her pace with PB.
As I posted before, I remember seeing a turtle with a round bird, a baepsae? on top walking through a rainbow in that scene btw PB and the mother who dread him leaving.
Also, as we all know, JW’s crocs have a turtle which also symbolizes wisdom, long and good life and knowledge of the future in Eastern cultures. There is also a link for patience because of The Tortoise and the Hare of Aesop’s Fable.
There is also the fact that the PD deparment has plenty of drawings on the walls, as expected. However, I find interesting the great amount of birds, all the same ones,turtles and fishes.

One, he’s hyper like the hare.
Two, he isn’t at all that wise. He’s a great doctor, and he loves Uju. But overall, he isn’t very bright when he’s the last to know about things happening right under his nose.
Three, he rejected the turtle gift from Taek’s dad. Remember? Last season, Taek’s dad and his stepmom, SW’s mom were at the hospital. Taek’s dad tried to give him a gift of the turtle and of course, he turned it down.
That was like the turtle Taek used to declare her feelings for Deoksun. 😂😂

@packmule3, just stating the obvious, if PaBo is Daddy Long legs, we need a Mommy and who has been Mommy all along to the fab 5, her residents- Songhwa. Her nickname here is perfect. She is a the right one to parent the foundation. And smart Andrea in his priestly guise knew that.He certainly didn’t choose Maggot (who lives off the living) for that role. That’s why Songhwa:s nickname was given to her as they said at the end of of the drama.
A note on our Mi-do and Shin Hyun Bin. I would love to know if our Maggot actress tried out for the Songhwa role. I can see her ambition given some of her public statements after the fangirls made her “popular”. If she did try out for the role and didn’t get it,I have no doubt that she was disappointed. On the other hand Jeon Mi-do wasn’t an obvious choice for Songhwa, given the fact that unlike Shin Hyun-bon, Mi-do is mainly a musical theater actress with really no k drama experience. She got the role after Jo Jung-suk (IJ) and Yoo (PaBo) recommended her for an audition. And the rest is history as Mi-do won an award for her “rookie” performance. The leads are experienced theater actors who know the value of acting in an ensemble live(no second or third takes). They know how important good scene partners are. Shin/Lee also knew how important the five leads’ long time friendship had to be conveyed. So they put together an ensemble who could enact this perfectly from day one.None of our five leads hogs the spotlight and they’re quite believable as long time friends.I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for this casting.
@OAL i remember watching BTS the casting process. Jeon Mido was asked to play every girls role, SHwa and Jang. ShinLee’s comment : you are both excellent in every roles that we gave you. Mido was very shy. And she thought she would be just playing supporting role in the beginning.
While the actress who played Maggot was also reading every roles, including Shwa and finally she got Maggot.
@Ori, there was a drawing of turtle and a bird on his back under the rainbow when JWon talk to his patient’s mother, a boy who was afraid when they had to take out the thread from his wound.

@BulmaGoku, iirc she was only made to read her script and Seon Bin’s scripts. Meanwhile, the actresses who played Shwa, SB and Minha were also made to read the scripts of FLs from Shinlee’s previous projects. And Iksun were made to read scripts of Shwa, Bae and Minha. Mido was originally planned to be Shwa but they were having concern because she is relatively new in kdrama despite her being an award winning queen in the musical industry. I am really glad they held on to their initial plan. Mido is Shwa. No one can play Shwa like her. They were all suitably casted to fit their respective roles. It’s a bonus that the role itself fit their real personality 🤭 But, when they need to flex their acting skills in certain scenes then you will see who has what it takes and who is not up to par. 😊

Speaking of children, one of PaBo’-s virtues is his beautiful affinity for children. It is one way he can become a father(not in the priestly sense) figure and the Dad of Daddy Long legs. There is absolutely no way that I can see Maggot in a mother role. Correct me if I’m wrong, but as of this writing, I don’t recall seeing her interact with kids in any scene. We also don’t really see Maggot interacting with many patients. To me that seems intentional on the part of Shin/Lee. Contrast that with what we’ve seen of Minha.
And to @Bulmaku and @Miracle, thank you for the casting information. Shin Lee did a great job casting this drama.

Actually I am now starting to wonder if there’s something in the fact that ShinLee wanted a female musical theatre actress to play SHwa. At first I just thought they wanted to give someone a break but now I am thinking they have something up their sleeve. The musical theatre links are there in S2. Oliver and Claire. In fact the scene where SHwa was singing Couple is very musical theatre like? As soon as she poked IJ on the shoulder and then started to skip away I was expecting her to break into song (just like in musical theatre), which she did. With the expectation that she will sing on her birthday (and the fact that she’s been practising), makes me think she may just wow us with her true voice then. 😂. YS can certainly sing too. They didn’t have to cast someone who could sing as SHwa because SHwa has to date been singing atrociously anyway? 🤔

I do remember seeing the video on the casting of IS. If I’m not mistaken that the actress knew martial arts was a huge factor in her getting the role.
The ShinLee team has an excellent track record on casting. I think their technique is to find actors whose personalities are close to the characters, so the acting would even be more natural and believable.
@pandamilktea, does the Shin Lee casting technique mean that Shin Hyunbin is actually like Jung Maggot? I certainly hope not.

Kinda like Hyeri doing interviews after Reply 1988 and feeding the JH+DS ship’s delusions. Later, we found out that she and the actor playing JH had been dating all along. No wonder they were both upset that they weren’t endgame. Duh.

It was not breaking news that she fits that role to a tee. It was everywhere post-S1. YYS are just stating old news on what everyone and she, herself, have been talking about last year. He did not say it with malice, though. More a praise? 😅 Just like shinlee giving her backhanded compliments in her casting iv but they mayhap didn’t see it as such. I guess it is their culture that such are what normal compliments meant 😅.
This is similar to what people are saying that he fits his character to a tee, that the shippers said PG is YYS reincarnated 🥴, which is not 100% correct 😂😂😂. Hence, they are projectingggggggg lol. Same goes to the other leads. Mido once said they they have become too similar with their roles.
Well, even shin pd also praised fangirl in that role. And shinlee were the one who casted her specifically for that reason, so it was intentional. Everyone knew that only JKH (Jwan) who does not has the personality traits as per his character requires and he has to do the acting flex being brute and petty and cold because in reality he is the opposite – kindest of soul and very gentlemanly and soft-hearted 😅

Saw in Twitter that they won’t air next week because of COVID situation and filming has halted. I’m surprised because I thought they already finished filming all episodes? Didn’t they start filming like June?
Anyway, with this news, I also became more verbal in their IG account, posting in all their posts about FlowerGarden so at least the Shin-Lee know that there are followers of this ship, in case they think of following only the loud ships out there (yeah, still worried with their earlier statement that they want to listen to fan ships).

I was completely turned off by him when I read that he said he was disappointed with the ending, and that if it were him he wouldn’t give up on Deok Sun only it was out of his control. @pandamilktree, you can watch her casting iv and form your own opinion 😊 Shin pd needs actors who are funny so that filming will be done in a jovial environment. He mentioned this in the bts as well. He pick scenes with funny bts to showcase, just like he said he prefers all good people in his drama world 😅… slice of life means you got bad ppl living among us, shin pd.😏 Not everyone is good btw. That is the reality of life.
@Keutin I saw that news too and I was going to comment the same thing. I think they started filming in April, I remember reading that somewhere but I could be wrong. From what I understand from the news, the production needs to halt because they need to change the script a bit. Some scenes are filmed inside a real hospital, so if they continue filming there, the safety of actors and crew will be compromised due to the spike in COVID cases. And I think there are new government protocols they need to follow. But I’m surprised that they’re still filming.
Fingers crossed they don’t make changes in the script to satisfy the shippers! I really hope they stick to the real story. 🙂

This article states it wasn’t due to a delay in filming. It was done on purpose. Which leads me to think we will get a cliffhanger after Ep6. I think we were supposed to have 3 seasons and they squashed S2&3 into one. So Ep1-6 is a condensed version of the planned S2 and Ep7-12 is the condensed version of S3. I am hoping for a FG kiss at the end of Ep6. 😂. Or something really significant that will be SHwa throwing the gauntlet down for her man and really put us in the running. That or an end to WG. Or a Romantic Winter kiss. 😂. Something that will totally toss a rock in the WG pond and cause massive ripples.
