Ohhhh…is this why he made sure there was plenty of snacks from LtCol Han’s supply bag? So she doesn’t have to ask for snacks from the Penthouse Guy?

#happiness from hey baby, this mammoth giving you trouble?

I still don’t know whether it’s a good or a bad sign that her wound isn’t healing quickly enough. Zompires are supposed to heal fast.

Understated displays of affections >>>> grandstanding and aegyo

A protective woman is sexy.

But really now, his backside was more endangered than his frontside since Han was already disarmed. Also, in light of the shooting accident at Alec Baldwin, actors with scenes involving a prop gun should probably be taught about gun safety to raise public awareness. For instance, the actor should keep his/her trigger finger outside the guard and off the trigger, and treat the gun as if it’s loaded.

How he managed to hide his feelings for her all these years really is a marvel.

Let’s enjoy the show.

  1. Dear @Packmule3 kalimera!

Thank you for the latest thread on “Happiness”.
One more week and then it is over… I am not ready yet…:-(

I do hope we will get a HEA for our #HyunBom couple. <3

As for Yi Hyun, I believe Sae Bom was not acknowledging his feelings, like they didn't exist. She had friendzoned him and that's it.

I agree though. Yi Hyun is so protective of her. Where was her mind all those years? A marvel indeed!

  2. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks for the thread and for bringing in those gifs @pkml3! YH is consistently good to SB. Sweet to watch.

Hi Agapimeni @Cleo! I hope to be able to watch the episode by early morning. It’s a toss up though, because I also want to watch Red Sleeve. Decisions! Decisions! 🤔 😬 😉

  3. Hey my agapimeni @GB!

I would be in the same position with yourself!

    Afterall, we have:

    1. The aftermath of the Royal Bath! LMAO!

    and

    2. Our #HyunBom along with Seo-Yoon in Quarantine. Decisions! Decisions! Indeed!

The good thing for me is that I will get to see tonight “The Red Sleeve Cuff” and I have to wait for tomorrow to watch “Happiness” with English Subs.

I am not sure If I will find time before our Goblin Rewatch Party or after.
We shall see! Stil I am anxious and I won’t come around to your Happiness comments until then!

  4. Whoa. What an episode! Am I wrong for getting excited from seeing the infected people? I just love seeing that apt rep ahjumma’s terrified face.

I knew something was bound to happen to YiHyun, but worry not, bcs SaeBeom’s antibody will save the day!

  5. So i decide to watch raw ep first then watch it with sub later ❤️ Which its mean i love “happiness” so much 🤓

Today, yi hyun got bitten by zombie🧟‍♀️
Idk how they solve this problem, since there is no cure so far 😭

But his crush on saebom really something! I love it that way.
Slow burn romance just my style 😁❤️

  6. @PM3 – I love those moments when SB is protective of YH! It is sexy as you said. Thanks for the GIF!

I think she cares about him too as a person but is quite oblivious to the romantic side of things. I wonder if she ever had a romantic relationship in those years. Possibly not as she was focused on her work on getting enough money and points to get a decent place of her own. On the other hand, YH has been holding a candle for her for years. Probably he did not have romantic relationships as well. It takes a zompire event to get them together and I hope for a satisfying HEA.

Raw ep9 is available, will try to watch at lunch and rewatch later.

  7. I’m feeling under the weather so I’m working from home today. (Frailty, thy name is Packmule3!) But I can’t watch Ep 9 on a break because it’s hard to switch back on again. How do you do that? 😂

Yes. I think they haven’t been in a relationship with other people. Her colleague was surprised that somebody “liked” to marry her. And his Hyung colleague thought he was behaving like a real hubby when he called her up after work to tell her not to hurry home because he’d fix the house. 😂 He was exuding husbandly vibes.

  8. Argh! A zompire bit him? So was he being prescient when he said he was a “vicious” man in Ep 8? Lol.

Yes. Slow burn, low-key, understated, muted, comfortable, relaxed romance is very much my style too. It’s like hot cocoa when it’s snowing 🌨 outside. Or chicken noodle soup 🍜 when you’re ill.

I saw a quote once. It said, “The most romantic love story is not Romeo and Juliet who dies together, but Grandma and Grandpa who grew old together.” We’re rooting for SaeBom and YiHyun to grow old together.

  9. Oh no, feel better soon @PM3 and have a good rest.

My meetings after lunch force me to switch back to work mode immediately. But I normally end Fridays early so I get to wind down the day with kdramas.

Feeling a bit sluggish myself since I just got my 6 month booster shot. No other effects but sleepiness, thank goodness.

  10. Welcome to the blog, @goldenashes97. I get why you’re excited to see Apt Rep terrified. You don’t want karma to skip her. 😂

  11. I know right? All this time I was hoping that she would get infected. Thank god her husband got infected first. I love watching her dejected. When YiHyun asked her if she had changed her opinion about the infected people and she just stood there unable to say anything, I was like, “ha! Gotcha!” Now I feel like a bad person 😅

I just saw the pra release clip. YiHyun is asking HTS to take SaeBom and SeoYoon out of the apartment, while he wants to stay there and ‘protect’ their home. Tho I doubt SaeBom would willingly leave him behind.

    Get well soon @packmule3 ☺

  12. Had to work half a day and just watched episode 8- the zompires still scare the hell out of me >.<

Great episode with 2 more zompires exposed- Bo Ram and Rep Oh's Reverend hubby. Once again the drama is doing an amazing job showcasing human behaviours at desperate times. Only SB/YH still consider those infected as humans/individuals and are not afraid to approach them when sane, whereas everyone else holds fear and keeps their distance as much as possible, including Jung Gok who's a real disappointing character. I wanted to punch him in the face when he avoided YH's bloodied hand when YH was gonna pat him on the shoulder. Like SB said a decade of friendship means nothing when personal safety is concerned (but who am I to judge?)

Dermatologist Oh is really the cat with nine lives- he's the most dangerous of them all and has a really twisted mind! Really interested to see if he'll end up getting infected or not.

Does Rep Oh now focus all her energy on getting revenge for her hubby by going after SB/YH?

I wished my hunch was wrong but unfortunately YH got scratched by Reverend hubby 🙁 I do think it'll be a HEA with a cure harvested from SB as there's 3 important lives riding on it now- YH, HTS's wife and baby!

Really liked the moments between SB/YH in this episode- HHJ really displayed some solid acting with her micro expressions- she was almost going to break down in tears seeing YH's wounded palm. It was also very cute that she said her tummy hurts and she won't be able to have dinner- what an indirect confession there!

Lastly wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone for the warm welcome in the last post before this 🙂 I don't watch a lot of dramas but looking forward to chime in here and there! Get well soon @packmule3!

  13. Kalimera!

    I got sad in the end… 😕

    Laters, I might write more.

  14. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hope you’re feeling better now @pkml3!

Hi @Cleo, I was so stressed during the episode. Slashing hand scenes always bother me and it happened 2-3 times ewuuuu.

Latest lists of would-be/confirmed zompires and the uninfected.

    Uninfected (15 pax):
    1) 1501 Kim Se Hun – the nice guy who’s prepared to share his stash.
    2) 1202 Rep Oh Yeon Ok who’s lost her husband. Wonder if she’ll be quieter now.
    3) 601 Killer Oh – Seems to kill for fun as well as for gain.

    4) 601 Sang Hee – Looking for a password to Oh’s crypto currency account.
    5) 602 Attorney Kook – Dumbest guy.
    6) 602 Shin So Yoon – She is consistently polite.
    7) 502 Seo Yoon
    8) 501 Sae Beom who has antibodies. In spite of her having anti-bodies, zompires still go for her blood.

    9) 502 Jung Kook – Next dumbest guy
    10) 401 Writer Na
    11) 302 Dad Kim – His status is not known since he didn’t make an appearance.
    12) 302 Bratty Son
    13) 201 Cleaner Ko – Why is he looking for water when he had heaps of bottles in his apartment?
    14) 201 Cleaner Ji
    15) Cheerful Cleaner – we didn’t get to see her at all.

    Uncertain (1 pax)
    1) 201 Andrew – Didn’t mind donating blood. Big question mark over him. He was able to get the zompires to go off peacefully just like Sun Woo Chang. Does he also have the infection or is his blood different because he may have taken Next for his autism.

Infected or Likely Infected (6 pax)
    1) 1202 – Deceased Sun Woo Chang, whose blood did not interest zompires, because he too was infected.
    2) 401 Na Soo Min
    3) 501 Yi Hyun – I thought it was kind of careless of him to leave Killer Oh in the apartment, unwatched. So he, too, is hiding a wound made by a zompire.
    4) 302 Mum Ji
    5) Supermarket Cashier Lee Bo Ram – she was more compassionate, maybe partly because she guessed that she too was infected.
    6) Deceased Gym Guy Kim Seung Beom

  15. Ep9 notes

    – residents were banding together to try to eject SB and YH outside the building (meeting at Snooty Ahjumma’s apartment – everybody except reverend hubby, old cleaning lady, lady writer, sleazy lawyer, mistress, old couple and good for nothing YouTuber son). Andrew informs SB/YH of their plan. SB barges in on their meeting and wants to cut her hand (blood) to try to flush any zompires out from amongst the residents. YH stops her just in time and cuts his hand instead. 😍. Supermarket girl BoRam is revealed to be a zompire. She got scratched on her leg by one of the zompires before they found her hiding in the supermarket. In the interim, BoRam gets locked up in the gym as a result.
    – writer’s brother SoMin is locked up in the digital driving range. Fake reverend hubby is trying to convince him to make the others believe that SB is infected too. Fake reverend wasn’t there during the “blood” test. 😮. He returns to his apartment to find the blood spatter and starts to clean it up. He almost wants to lick it? 😮. But his wife walks back into the room and he stops himself. So he’s one too? Is that why the zompires didn’t bite him when he flashed the cross? If that’s the case, then Andrew is potentially a hidden zompire too. Seeing the security guard didn’t bite him on the rooftop.
    – we get a moment for our OTP as SB dresses YH’s hand wound. And they do their usual curt interchange which none so subtly tells us that each cares for the other person’s welfare deeply 😂
    – SB sets the supermarket girl up on the rooftop away from the others.
    – they convene another meeting in the gym to try to flush out more of the infected. Fake reverend doesn’t show either. YH wants someone else to do the honours. Andrew slices his arm as a blood sacrifice…hmm…is it because he’s infected? So he doesn’t turn because it’s his own blood? He collects some of it in a cup which YH passes around to try to flush any unknowns. Nobody turns. Snooty Ahjumma brings the cup of blood home and leaves it on the kitchen counter. Fake reverend drinks it…and she screams. Turns out he got the drug off the gym trainer. And he’s the guy who bloodied them towel that old cleaner lady found in the stairwell trash. Snooty Ahjumma is still hung up about being apartment rep? 🙄
    – Fake reverend runs out of his apartment and is exposed as he breaks into 1201 and tries to munch on Dermatologist and Sleazy lawyer (who had his pants down…🤣 whilst visiting the mistress)/mistress. SB and YH try to apprehend possessed reverend. They manage to succumb him (tied his hands up and covers his head with a shirt/towel) and leave him to talk outside with Snooty Ahjumma. Evil dermatologist appears from his locked room, lures reverend into taking a dive off the balcony…to his death.
    – mistress is trying to find the passcode to dermatologist’s cryptocurrency buys? She intends to fleece him and settle with sleazy lawyer. She happens to see dermatologist has tattooed the passcode on his shoulder? Err…I thought she was his mistress? Surely? But okay…maybe they haven’t gotten that far yet or their trysts have always been “in the dark” 😂
    – Penthouse guy tells SB and YH that there’s a back up generator which resides in another building? That if they power it up they will get electricity and water back up. But it means they have to go outside and the generator when turned on will be noisy and attract zompires.
    – YH was scratched just below his collar bone by fake reverend in the tussle. So he’s been infected.

  16. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

One more comment to make about Andrew. His blood was still very palatable to zompire Sun Woo Chang, and it turned Lee Bo Ram, so Andrew is very interesting. On the one hand, he was able to turn away zompires with just a word, and on the other, his blood still attracts them. Might we have hope in another avenue for a cure in Andrew?

  17. @GB I thought it was YH’s blood that turned Bo Ram, not Andrew? But yes he’s an interesting fella, wonder what he possesses that has deterred the zompires biting him.

Why didn’t YH and SB expose Dermatologist’s evil plan to infect all residents with Next by tampering with the water bottles? Were they worried that they do not have solid evidence to convince the other residents?

Also is it only me finding it odd that SB was calling some of the residents ahjussi when they don’t look much older than she is… is it just a formality? I think she called the dead gym guy ahjussi when she saw him in the car looking for Next tablets.

I had a good chuckle seeing Penthouse guy taking his “throne” when SB and YH asked him for favour to share supplies.

  18. Oh wow! Thanks for this list, @GB. I couldn’t continue watching it last night because I saw that nasty bloodletting/hand slashing scene and that turned me off. I was drinking a glass of red wine too. 🍷🤪 It’ll be white wine for me now.

So zompires are not interested in the Fake Pastor/Rep Oh’s blood bec they can tell that he was infected too? How? By smell? Did LtCol Han mentioned better senses: vision, hearing, smell, focus, etc. for zompires?

    Hmmm.

If they go by smell, then why they can’t they tell that SaeBom was already infected then? Why was she attacked then by that security guard in the roof? By the gym guy? By the Wife #601? The trailer full of zombies? And the recruit?

Is it because she is NOT infected all along?

Then she does have the antibodies.

Does this explain Andrew? He wasn’t attacked by the same two zompires who went after the Fake Rev. He’s autistic. We suspected that he was taking Next although he didn’t show an adverse reaction to it and the usual symptoms of a zompire. He was eavesdropping when YH and SaeBom were talking about Penthouse Guy having bought a stash of Next from the Gym Guy. He looked interested.

I hope Penthouse Guy isn’t a druggie too. Why did he buy a stash?

  19. Lol. I wish I read your recap first @nrllee. 😂

Wait. Why does SB and YH have to turn on generator? They should send Andrew and the Supermarket Girl. They’re already infected.

  20. Wait, new data here. Thanks, @GB.

Andrew’s blood turned Supermarket Girl and Fake Pastor into zombies? He donated blood, too for YH’s “experiment”?

YH is fast becoming a mini-LtCol Han with his “shock” stunts, isn’t he? He wants the element of surprise to see how people react.

    What about his Hyung?

  21. Kalimera @Packmule3!

I just read you were under the weather yesterday! I do hope you’re feeling better today! ❤️🌺🍪

  22. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@pkml3 … to add to @nrllee’s recap and in answer to your questions…

Yeah I hate hand slashing. I always cringe and look away. Yes, Andrew donated some blood to use as a test on who the zompires were. At least Andrew cut his arm, which is not a part of the body that has to keep gripping things. @TheWanderer reminds us that Yi Hyun’s blood turned Bo Ram while Andrew’s blood turned the ‘Reverend’.

No mention of how zompires can tell that it’s not worth biting the other person who is also a zompire. The “virus” seems to know… it only wants to spread the infection to the uninfected and so won’t waste time on a person who is already infected. It’s like the entire human person becomes a walking virus LOL.

Sae Bom is a special case. She made her own antibodies, never displayed any symptoms, and seems to be still the one person all the zompires want to infect.

Andrew is the other interesting case. His blood turns away zompires who are looking to infect, but he does not seem infected himself. His blood was still able to turn the ‘Reverend’. Maybe he’s a natural virus carrier who does not exhibit symptoms?

Stash – 15th floor penthouse guy is a doomsday stasher of anything useful. No info on whether he has Next. He had a tent that he gave SB for poor Lee Bo Ram who wanted to be somewhere not closed up, and who ended up on the roof, by herself.

Weakling Jung Kook is a trembling, gullible mess who’s embarrassed to death, but YH and SB who are disappointed in him still get him to come back to their apartment. He promised to work hard, whatever that means. Maybe he can redeem himself after all by sacrificing himself to save Seo Yoon

  23. @Packmule3,

I wrote an answer and it got vanished!😭

Yi Hyun’s blood made the supermarket girl a zompire.

The Pastor had symptoms but was hiding it. He first tried to taste his blood but it was pointless.

I guess the zompires want blood from a person who is not infected, the virus wants to survive, so it has to spread.

The Pastor tried to taste YH’s blood but his wife came before he did. The next day he turned into a zompire because he tasted Andrew’s blood.

New Data: The infected can detect who has the Virus in them. That’s why they didn’t bite the Pastor in the first place.

    Saw Bom has antibodies.

Andrew might be autistic, if that is the case, it means his brain works in a different way.

If we take into consideration that, Andrew’s brain is wired in a different way, that means he might be immuned because of that.

As for the supermarket girl, she was not there when Andrew cut his arm. From what we know so far, the more you turned into a zompire, the longest their zompire episodes are getting.

New Data #2: From the Lab. A newest mutation is discovered.

Some infected stay conscious longer, in order to fool the medical staff that are getting okay when in reality, they get transformed when they think noone sees them.

Lastly, Yi Hyun did not say anything to Sae Bom about his scratch. We have to remember what Han actually told him:”she might turned at any time now.”

He doesn’t want to stress her further more. The residents did their best to piss her off several times over in a short time.

I am not okay with him being infected. In the preview we saw, he will gladly take the fall for Sae Bom to survive… 😐😑😔

I do hope they will not make Yi Huyn a sacrificial lamb.Everyone is unhappy with this development.. 🥺

  24. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @TheWanderer
Yup, Andrew’s blood turned the ‘Reverend’ only.

Why didn’t YH and SB expose Dermatologist’s evil plan to infect all residents with Next by tampering with the water bottles? Were they worried that they do not have solid evidence to convince the other residents?

Yes, Killer Oh only showed that he didn’t want to drink his own spiked water when he threw up at home. There was no proof. Anyway what was the point. There was no Next in the water and they’d already told everyone that he was a real murderer. No one reacts in the expected way in this show, so no one was scared of the real killer.

Also is it only me finding it odd that SB was calling some of the residents ahjussi when they don’t look much older than she is… is it just a formality? I think she called the dead gym guy ahjussi when she saw him in the car looking for Next tablets.

Yes (my guess is, because I’m not Korean) it can be used a blanket address for adult guys. It can be a way to denote that one is speaking of a man and not of a woman. Although it’s generally meant to be polite, the tone in which it is said can indicate the disapproval, LOL and I’m not sure but that tone might have been used for when SB calls younger guys ahjusshi.

I had a good chuckle seeing Penthouse guy taking his “throne” when SB and YH asked him for favour to share supplies.

He was like a king about to decree what his generosity would bestow upon his subjects. LOL.

  25. Actually fake reverend was turned on by the leftover blood spatter on the wall. Which was YH’s blood at the first blood offering. Reverend only took a drink of Andrew’s blood in the cup after his wife came back from the second blood offering. He drank his own blood to try to satiate his thirst. So Andrew is still a mystery. With his face being covered up like that, we’re not sure if he’s got splotches or not. It would appear that the infected get splotchy after turning.

  26. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @Cleo
I’m reminded that the Supermarket Girl was able to keep her symptoms at bay for a long time. She had gotten badly scratched in the supermarket when the zompires came. She was the one who went out to get the mobile phone for Bratty Son 2 episodes ago. She met a zompire out there but wasn’t bitten. However she ran away and let the zompires into the building. So she still behaved like she was not infected.

    Thanks for:

New Data #2: From the Lab. A newest mutation is discovered.

Some infected stay conscious longer, in order to fool the medical staff that are getting okay when in reality, they get transformed when they think no one sees them.

It seems they can even stop themselves from drinking for longer stretches of time. Did HTS say that the longer people have the virus, the more likely it is that they have the mutation? If so, then maybe Supermarket Girl’s virus had mutated … that could be why she was able to hold off drinking, and so did Reverend.

It’s true that YH has been constantly looking out for SB and trying to take on the dangers for her. However SB pushed YH off the school roof before, telling him there were other alternatives to baseball and to take the plunge. I’ll not be surprised if she’s the one again to come up with something, like, to let him bite her to get her antibody filled blood or something. She might just do the opposite of what’s expected and ‘save’ him again. 🤪

  27. I think “ahjussi” as SaeBom uses it means “Sir!”

I’ve to watch that throne scene. I’ll start watching in a few.

  28. Thanks for the new data, @nrllee.

So, zompires have bad complexion, too. 😂 Blotchy, splotchy, uneven pigmentation.

  29. Oh? There’s a new mutation? 🙂Is this ripped from the headlines? Omicron?

I hope this doesn’t mean that zompire-hunters have to go around with a vial of fresh blood to distinguish zompires from regular people.

  30. @packmule3 I think we figured out that zompires don’t attack their own, but nobody else in the complex thinks that. So chances are our intrepid duo will venture out to turn on the generator. I can understand how that will turn the electricity back on but why the water? 🤔

Now that YH is infected, he’s safe from the zompires? If she has antibodies, does that mean if she feeds YH her blood he’s cured? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Same with any other zompire that takes a bite of her?

  31. @nrllee nice one YH is at least save from zompire attacks, key is when he will be turned into one himself.

@GB @packmule3 thanks for explaining on the ahjussi expression- my limited K drama viewing tells me ahjussi means “uncle/senior” and usually used to address someone older so just thought it was odd. Makes sense if it’s used in a polite form “Sir”.

Not sure if it was covered previously but it seems that there’s also a point of no return where those affected by the virus will transform completely? That’s what happened to the Pharma boss isn’t it? When HTS went to see him and said he only had 10 mins left. Will any cure/vaccine be able to treat those severe cases then?

Not sure if it’s a plothole but I thought the way Dermatologist Oh escaped from Reverend hubby didn’t quite make sense. He should know from his zompire wife that they can’t open door knobs, so why did he not shut the door behind him when running back to his unit? Even if he shut himself in the room how long was he going to stay inside, knowing the zompire is right at the doorstep, roaming free in his unit? Of course it’s a plot device to have YH get infected but can’t help but shake my head watching it unfold.

  32. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hah! @TheWanderer have you also joined my club of head shaking over this Show? LOL. I’ve done so much of that *shakes head*.

  33. I think this drama has possibility to have second season. Since in preview ep 11 writer will separate yihyun and saebom..

And my real question now, why the title is HAPPINESS ? When there is no sign about happiness at all in the drama.
Latest ep more likely giving us SADNESS 😶‍🌫️
And everyone not “happy” at all 😂

  34. @GB did you find majority of characters frustrating for you? Recall a comment in other posts. Another thing that is frustrating to watch is their lack of common sense overall. Didn’t YH get supplies from HTS when he asked for ammunition to protect SB? Why would they NOT bring some with them at all times in case they bump into a zompire? Don’t think they had ANY defensive gear/weapon with them at all in episode 9- at that rate it’s only a matter of time one of them will get infected…

  35. @TheWanderer

    HTS didn’t give them guns.

    He only gave them:

    Walkie talkie
Stun Grenades which he can’t waste to disarm one or two residents
    Handcuffs: two pairs?
Snacks: what was he going to do with them? Throw Cheese Puffs and choco balls at the zompires?

Should have carried his bat or that mop with him at all time. But bat was used to close sliding door and mop??? Yeah. It’s helluva scary thing, that bat. Reallly a crime-deterrent.

  36. Ok, @lovebangwon, who died? 😭😂

I want only three people to survive: YH, SaeBom and the little girl. The “family.”

I don’t think there’ll be a second season if more than half of the residents are goners. What will the writer do? Start zompire infestation all over again in another apartment building? 😂

YH and SB might separate but they’ll be back by Ep 12.

  37. Spoilers from Ep10

    – Andrew is a baddie? He killed Old Cleaning Lady and also Penthouse guy (their necks were chewed so he’s a zompire?). The real Andrew is dead. Lady Lieutenant tells SB they found his body in his apartment (outside). The guy who they think is Andrew (remember how he scrubbed out his photo on his ID card?) is someone pretending to be him 😮. Turns out the real,Andrew didn’t have a scar after all. Pretend Andrew just faked being scarred when he was hired by Cleaning couple? The residents revolt. Fake Andrew breaks into SB’s apartment whilst she and YH are out checking on Penthouse guy (they find his body in a cleaning closet). Fake Andrew stabs Detective Hyung multiple times. (Preview for Ep11 seems to show us that he’s not dead but we see Dermatologist trying to smother him with a pillow?). He takes off his mask right at the end of Ep10. Not that it helps us because we have no idea who he is 😂 even with his mask off?
    – YH tries not to succumb to his thirst. Last we see him hovering over the bloodied body of his Hyung…is that enough to set him off? 🤔
    – they are trying to get Little girl out because her heart disease is starting to develop symptoms and she needs to get to the hospital. YH is trying to convince SB to leave with her. He cuts a deal with HTS.
    – HTS uses SB’s blood/plasma on his wife and her zompire symptoms settle. So it works. He’s trying to buy time and keep SB safe from the higher ups because he knows that once that is leaked (that his wife’s symptoms subsided with her blood), SB would not be safe from being bled out by the higher ups. HTS knows that YH is infected because YH has been behaving out of character.
    – Ep11 preview seems to suggest that residents are revolting. Descending into anarchy. Lord of the flies style. SB and YH turn the back up generator on. Which sets the zompires on them? Looks like YouTuber son is helping them by means of a getaway car? HTS ominous voiceover to “Close it up after we get SB. YH is infected too. Tell them to shoot.” 😢

  38. Okay, so I am confused. Why does HTS have to hide the fact that SaeBom’s blood contains antibody from SaeBom herself and YiHyun in the first place? He could’ve told them the truth, and ask them to keep it a secret from other residents. Then I’m pretty sure SaeBom would’ve come with them willingly? There would be no need to try to convince her to leave the apartment. Did I miss something?

I didn’t watch the preview but oh dear so many deaths? … this is not how a kdrama normally plays out to the end. Don’t we get to have the good guys survive and join forces? Don’t all the calamities draw people together to cooperate better to survive? So far it’s just been SB and YH doing all the thinking and working in the building.

Well the ‘Happiness’ title still has it’s e turned backwards in Ep 9.

  40. Pm3 andrew killed few ppl in the apt. Include the police officer (yihyun friend)

I hope you are right! I dont think i can wait another season and wish for happy ending for the “family” 🤣 hts better to act fast making the cure..

  41. Hello hello !! A viewer entering the scene circa ep 10 😂 I was actually planning to “view” Jirisan. It has proven to be impossible. While looking for some short updates on the same, I looked at scenes of Yi Hyun and Sae Bom. Just like @pm3 they made me feel so warm inside. In spite of not watching _any_ episode till now and being positively scared of zombies, I found myself worried and caring about Yi Hyun’s fate. The FL is so good too. Yes for sexy protective women !

  43. I just watched Episode 10 and I have to say that I royaly pissed off!

The lawyer and all the others are monsters! The way they were looking at Sae Bom in the end shows how unethical they are until the last bits and bites of their existence!

Andrew as it seems is a serial killer and he was playing dump in order to get away with it. Still he killed at least two people so far and he hurt the older Detective.

I am really pissed off because the Colonel is a hypocrite. He could say to Yi Hyun that Sae Bom’s blood has antibodies since he has realized he is infected. He was the one responsible for stealing Next in the first place and creating this mess!

But as @nrllee pointed in Episode’s 11 preview, we get to see that when Sae Boom and the little girl is out he gives orders to kill them and especially him in the end? Really Ahjussi? After Sae Bom’s plasma made your wife’s symptoms to subside you are going to kill Yi Huyn?

    Don’t mess with Yi Hyun!

I feel utterly disappointed at the moment. This is not a surreal setting. It is a plausible scenario.

  44. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Cleo, I share your disappointment in how the characters are turning out. Our only spots of hope are that the Na siblings will be good, the Elderly Dad and Mum too, and that they’ll all be safe. I hope their Bratty Son turns over a new leaf for good, and Attorney’s wife Shin So Yoon gets to survive.

The other thought I have is that it’s unconscionable for the police force to have given a gun to someone like Jung Kook who could not use it to save his life. It risked injury to anyone in line of fire. He couldn’t even hold the gun properly, let alone shoot it. It was easily plucked out of his hand by SB, when he was waving it at her, all in a tremble. How he could ever have passed the physical exams to be allowed into active service, and to carry a gun is beyond me.

Show seems to be saying that left to one’s own devices, with a need to survive, the majority will take care only of themselves, but will gang up to turn against each other. It will just be a matter of time. After taking down those they don’t like, they will continue their looting and start to choose whom to sacrifice so that they can survive a little longer.

  45. Does Andrew have split personality maybe? He brought food for writer Na to repay her kindness earlier, and the next moment he goes to stab Jung Gook? But in ep 11 preview he points the gun at writer Na I think. What are his ultimate intentions? Can’t really figure this guy out. Was he going to turn everyone in the apartments into zompires eventually? Although he seems to kill his victims in the process rather than just infecting them.

Getting tired of complaining about the brainless residents. I can understand Killer Oh and Rep Oh for continuously targetting YH/SB. Rep Oh is blinded by revenge but the cleaner couple are really pushing buttons! Why are they demanding for more water when they were trying to flog a bottle for $200?

It feels like there’s still lots unanswered to be wrapping it up in 2 episodes next week…

  46. @GB,

Yes, Jung Kook is a weak weak man. I get that he’s breaking down because of the stressful situation coupled with his anxiety about his wife’s health, but man, what a time to lose his mental composure.

It reminds me of an Olympic… errr…. some world class athletes who trained for years and years for their events, but when they’re actually needed to perform, they break down because of “mental stress.”

Part of me wants to yell, “Weakling! Just toughen up and do your job! If you’re going to break down at this critical stage, you shouldn’t be here. You should have yielded your spot to somebody else who’s mentally stronger! I can’t believe we wasted $$ on your athletic development.”

But part of me is like YiHyung and SaeBom. They’re upset; they’re disappointed. But in the name of “mental health,” they try to understand his fragility. So far, I haven’t seen YiHyung slam his Hyung for his psychological weakness. No recriminations.

And while he accepts it that he cannot personally control his Hyung’s behavior, and he can’t count on Hyung anymore, he can control his own response to it. He still focuses on the job.

    🙂

And that’s why I like kdramas like this. If all the message it’s trying to impart is that “descent to chaos is inevitable in a lawless society because people will natural sink to their base instincts for survival,” then it’s a cliche. We all know THAT. I said before that this is like “Lord of the Flies,” a story about young boys stranded on an island. That book should be required reading for teens, especially kdrama fangirls.

But we’re being shown an alternative response, a more compassionate and humane response, from the main leads. It gets exasperating, sure. But that’s partly because we’re so used to heroes taking the easiest way to get rid of a problem: kill.

I’m sure it hasn’t escaped your notice that thus far, YiHyung and SaeBom have refused to kill anybody even when their lives were at stake. Their combined body count is zero. Since the start, they have killed no one, which is impressive considering he’s a cop and she’s a counter-terrorist agent, and they were constantly endangered.

For me, that’s the bigger message, @GB. Restraint, composure, the willpower to uphold life even under stress. 🙂

I’m still holding on to hope that Jung Kook redeem himself by sacrificing himself for the young child.

  47. Jung Kook is pretty useless as a police officer as seen in episode one when he was talking to YH on the roof. SB is the one who resolved the situation. However, I think YH and SB both know he doesn’t necessarily have bad intentions so they have empathy for him. YH realizes he’s especially going crazy being away from his family. Although he might be useless in more intense police environments, perhaps he does a better job at other police work that YH has seen.

The death of the doomsday prepper has been the first one to actually make me sad.

I really haven’t had a problem with head scratching-maybe because right now my brain just doesn’t want to work that hard. I enjoy just watching the show and seeing how the characters play out as the situation continues to unravel.

my main curiosity is with Andrew.
I hope they do a good job of explaining his character. YH said “I know who you are” or something like that in the preview, has he had experience with him in the past? I feel like I need to go back to episode 1 for a rewatch to see if anything is mentioned. What are andrew’s reasons for killing? When he saved the fly I got the feeling he was more of a vigilante, but then he murders the older cleaning lady (after giving her an apple) and the innocent prepper, they both fell in my ‘good guy’ category. What are his motivations for their murder?

  48. And I continue to love the main couple. When she was hugging SY during her coughing fit and looked up at YH, it felt like real concerned parents. I do so hope episode 11 is very dramatic and we end episode 12 with a happy ending consisting of YH and SB starting their own family in their own home happily ever after with a neat little bow to tie it all up.

  49. Kalispera @GB Unnie!

I totally understand your thoughts about it.

I remember something that our favorite Ob-gyn doc from HP2 said to a couple: “Bad things sometimes happen to good people.”

I was disappointed by the fact and @Packmule3 described it perfectly in her comment, that Yi Huyn and Sae Bom are like a humane and ethical compass. Still, bad things keep happening to them.

I was disappointed by the older Policeman like the most of you.
I can accept though, that some people have not that mentality and they can break down easily. The fact how #HuynBom reacted and @Packmule3 captured in her answer, means that we can do the same in any given situation. We can do the job but we don’t depend from them.

@Packmule3, you are right. The most trained people in the whole apartment block and they haven’t killed anyone. They have fought several times over, but never with the intention to do physical harm. For me that is heroic and ethical.

I am more disappointed with Colonel Han, who helped his own wife, but chooses to break down #HuynBom. I am disappointed that he wants only Sae Bom for the cure, but he gives a command to kill Yi Hyun in the spot.

Han is the one who started all this. It is his fault, yet, he left the duo to deal with the aftermath of infected people, the lockdown and the rest residents that have no ethics or remorse. He only comes when he wants something from them.

@TheWanderer Andrew is a serial killer, he took mementos from his victims. That’s why Sae Bom found the Cleaning Lady’s ID in his bag. He is vicious.

I read on MDL that in Episode 1, there was a poster with some Wanted People and that his face might be in. Hence what Yi Huyn told to his face in Episode 11.

    @ Everyone

Some say, why did they choose the word “Happiness” as this drama’s title?

I feel that this is a philosophical matter. I am pretty sure that the Writernim has read Aristotle.

Aristotle wrote about Ευδαιμονία or Eudaimonia or Happiness in “Nichomachean Ethics”. I have written a paper about it and it made a tremendous impact on me.

How to live your life ethically and be happy?
How do you become happy? What can you do and how?

I feel that “Happiness” is giving us a lot to ponder about.

  50. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL @Cleo. Happiness and Jirisan depress me.

  51. @GB Unnie,

I am heading to watch Jirisan and I don’t want to…

I am not depressed by Happiness. I got sad because Yi Huyn was infected and then I was mad from the situations (evilness) that are too raw to witness.

  52. Kalimera everyone!

A New Song from Happiness OST is out!

    Isaac Hong – Pain

  53. @packmule3 thanks for expanding further into the subject, thought provoking indeed. SB did almost reach breaking point and was about to unleash her wrath on the brainless group but was held back by YH- probably episode 9? That presented a dose of realism at least otherwise they come across too saint like.

I will have to pick up “Lord of the Flies” from my local library, will be good reading through the Christmas break.

@cleopatra thanks for explaining. I’m wondering if his virus has mutated a fair bit that he’s able to control himself well and not turning into zompire mode even at the sight of blood. Why did SB not immediately ask for backup from HTS, knowing 2 victims had fallen prey? They were already meant to head there to pick up Seo Yoon, surely doesn’t hurt to have back up to arrest Andrew?

I’ve come across some posts saying there will be season 2 but couldn’t find any official source so presuming this will still end next week?

  54. @TheWanderer,

You are welcome. I don’t think Andrew is infected. He covered up his crimes as bites, in order to confuse the others if the victim’s bodies were found.
The minute he put lime on them though, means he planned it from the beginning.
It was not an urge from a Zompire. It was a serial killer’s urge.

As for Yi Hyun. I don’t know if he has the mutation. The Pastor took Next and he got the Lyra Virus the same way the Pharma Boss did. Their difference is that the first one didn’t manage to bite anyone, while the second did repeatedly. Yes, the Pastor scratched YH, but it happened during a fight.

The fact that Yi Hyun can restrain himself means something. I think he is trying very hard not to hurt Sae Bom, Seo-Yoon and his Hyung Police Officer. He remembers exactly what Colonel Han told him. You can restrain as long as you wish. He does exactly that. He is trying to hold himself back and not to transform and lose himself. It is the same mechanism the Writer’s brother uses. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone and he takes strength by looking the family picture he has as a screensaver at his cellphone.

    I haven’t read anything about a Season 2.
As @Packmule3 said, it won’t do any good. We don’t want things to drag for more episodes. We just want Yi Hyun to reunite with Sae Boom and Seo Yoon and be okay / happy together!

  55. Go ahead and read “Lord of the Flies.” I’m no literary person but, to me, it’s the first of its kind. We’ve always thought viewed ourselves rational creatures, noble creatures. Do you remember that Michaelangelo’s fresco in the Sistine Chapel of Adam waiting for a divine spark from God? Well, that’s our image of humanity: we’re created in the image of a good, wise God so we, too, are good and wise.

Now with Golding however, he upended that. In “Lord of the Flies” the kids turned savage. The message was when men were removed from civilization, and the law and order which civilized societies lived by disintegrated, then men would revert to their savage ways.

And this is what we’re seeing in “Happiness.”

“Happiness” is thought-provoking. It’s the writer’s commentary on people’s ugly sides that came to the forefront during coronavirus. Like, LtCol Han. I told you all before that yeahhhhh, right, his one-solution-for-all is wrong. He had no qualms killing a zompire (except his wife!!) because zompires were “sub-human.” In his eyes, infected people weren’t humans anymore, just a “threat” to the happy existence of normal humans, so these people could be eliminated en masse.

Of course, viewers get upset because YiHyung is now infected, too, and Han is letting him and the rest of the apartment dwellers fend for themselves.

Tsk. tsk. tsk. We BODers should go beyond this. I’ve said that drama has many levels of interpretation. We can remain shallow and be like fangirls crying over normal “sturm und drang” of a kdrama in its penultimate week. Or we can study what the social criticism here.

We’ve seen the character of LtCol Han before in history, and nowadays in the news. We’ve heard his arguments before:

From Hitler when he decided that Jews, physically and mentally disabled, homosexuals, and non-Aryans were subhuman and should be killed off.

Zompires = the victims of Nazi persecution

From a president of an Asian country who declared that drug addicts were less than subhuman and could be killed off.

    Zompires = drug addicts

From the Talibans who decide that women who defy the sharia are less than subhuman and can be punished or killed off.

    Zompires = women

From the Chinese government who view the Muslim Uyghurs as subhuman because they’re ethnically, religiously, culturally different from the Han Chinese. The detention of the Uyghurs in fortified camps is not unlike the lockdown of the apartment complex of SaeBom and YiHyung. These people can be killed off if and when they cause unrest to the state.

    Zompires = Uyghurs

And from politicians, healthcare workers (shocking!) and common people who view the unvaccinated people as subhuman and wish them killed off.

Look: I’m triple-vaxxed. Everybody in my family is vaxxed. I openly urge people to get vaxxed.

But when I hear folks demonize the unvaxxed, and advocate that they be denied hospital services when they get sick, excluded from public spaces, terminated from their jobs, or just be killed off, I’m seriously dismayed.

    Zompires = unvaxxed

When you think about this, “Happiness” delivers only a small picture — like a pic in a peephole — of the bigger chaos in the world today. The perspective may be depressing, but as long as we have good people fighting a good fight, then it should end well. We’re not “Lord of the Flies” yet.

  56. My dear @Packmule3,

Thank you for writing this. I haven’t said anything over here, but I was extremely disappointed by some things that I was reading on my FB timeline. You captured the essence of it. I see around me intolerance, ignorance and people who are targeting others out of fear (?) or is it something else altogether?

I am trying to be reasonable. I am trying to be understanding. I am trying to be humane and not judge others. But at it seems, some people don’t seem to understand in how dangerous times we live.

That’s why I fell in love with “Happiness” in the first place. I realized that this Allegory could make us think. Think and try to be humane and not judgemental. Ethical and not hypocrites.

What have we learned from History so far?
What have we learned from the two WWWs?
    ….

What have we learned from Covid19?

I fear that few of us have. We should pay attention, because if you have read 1984 or Fahrenheit 451 or The Handmaid’s Tale or even Happiness, there is a chance that we might be getting there.

God is Love. We should love each other and not hate each other.
We should learn from our mistakes and not repeat them time after time.
I pray that we will better than this. I pray that a better world exists for us and our children. I pray…

  57. And from politicians, healthcare workers (shocking!) and common people who view the unvaccinated people as subhuman and wish them killed off.

Look: I’m triple-vaxxed. Everybody in my family are vaxxed. I openly urge people to get vaxxed.

But when I hear folks demonize the unvaxxed, and advocate that they be denied hospital services when they get sick, excluded from public spaces, terminated from their jobs, or just be killed off, I’m seriously dismayed.

    Zompires = unvaxxed

Yes to this. I am of the same mind. Fundamental human rights conveniently brushed aside. 🙄. And as they drop the age group for vaccinations to 5 and over now, there are proponents in the government who ascribe to the “no jab, no play” rule? Huh? 🙄 When will this end? It’s already there for adults. No jab, no admission. No jab, no school. No jab, no work. I was at the hairdressers when an elderly man was turned away because he had only had his first vaccination? He turned around and walked out of the crowded shop (we had just come out of lockdown and there was a massive line to get haircuts). Striking a lonely figure as he did the “walk of shame” out of the shop. It was depressingly sad. In my country, it got to a point this year where it was no jab, no entry (into your own state and own home)? How is that even reasonable? 😡

  58. @packmule3 Glad you brought up what happened to Uyghurs people in China. The detention of the Uyghurs in fortified camps is zero acceptable. In this drama, it looks like that the residents lack in common sense, but what happened to the Uyghurs doesn’t make sense either. Good for us that We can learn from History and Kdrama.

  59. Thank you @PM3 for this thought provoking discussion. I like this show because of the moral dilemmas it has woven in the characters and their circumstances. A lot of teachable moments. The leads exemplify empathy, compassion and sacrifice for the greater good. While for the rest, just like in “Lord of the Flies”, the question to ask Is – what are you doing??!!! I hated the last scene of Ep 10 when all the residents are lining up outside of SB and YH’s unit with their grocery bags while a killer was inside with SY! What the heck is wrong with these people?

I felt a bit disjointed with the new killer twist on this Andrew character. I am not sure if it’s adding value to the story or if he’s another strata in society that is represented in the microcosm that is building 101. But I’m saving judgement until next ep, hope they can tie this angle well.

  60. @Janey Yes I do think Andrew the serial killer (strange as it is) is another strata in society. I feel the writer is depicting the varying degrees of moral depravity. If he is a serial killer, then he needs no incentive for violence or depravity. He’s already there. Pandemic or not. He was bad and he stays bad through the drama. He needed no incentive to kill others (his mind was already “diseased”). SB and YH are on the other extreme. They stick with their moral values in good times and bad. They were good and so far they have stayed “good”. The others move between these 2 extremes as the drama progresses. None so subtly, the writer is saying that everyone has choices in the most dire of circumstances. We can choose to do right, or do wrong or do nothing. There’s nothing to stop you from making good decisions even if you’ve been making bad ones before? And there are those who made good decisions initially only to make bad ones as the situation becomes increasingly hopeless. In this microcosm of society (the apartment complex), locked away from the larger reality (society and its rules), they become a law to themselves. Much like Lord of the Flies.

  61. The newly infected people within the building – Elderly woman, supermarket worker, brother and YH. They haven’t killed anyone. Elderly woman seems to hold out for a long time. Judging by her voice, she seems normal. Husband is still alive despite living in the same house.

Look at the non-infected people – Dr, Andrew (assume non infected as Reverend was attracted to his blood), Lawyer, House Rep, Cleaners. They pledge their alliance to violence, and capable to kill for survival. They may not be infected but so what? Andrew is the unexpected twist for me. He had fooled me by offering food to the cleaning lady, saving the youtuber and volunteering his blood. The only hidden part is how he managed to fight off the zompires in the rooftop, to the extent HTS was questioning him. That may be the violent part of him we didn’t see.

It’s quite clear that infected or not, if they choose to control their desires and put the others first, people around them can have a chance to live (e.g. elderly man, writer). Zompires or not, the bad is being self centre. Putting self needs above the others will kill.

I am naturally sad to see YH infected and his dream of happiness may not be achievable in his mind. However it’s realistic and a matter of time one of SB and YH will be infected with their often close contacts and physical confrontations with the turned Zompires. Given SB is the one who carries the antibodies, the victim inevitably be YH. It will be interesting to see our main leads’ choices when it is their turn now. So far YH can’t be honest to SB and lied to her. That’s no different to the other couples, the elderly woman couldn’t tell the husband, the reverend who couldn’t tell his wife. My first thought was YH was doing the noble idiocy thing, but after a while, I think it must be hard to come clean in real life. So far, no one has been that honest about their infection because the fear of persecutions or dangers it can pose to their close ones.

SB has shown us her outside the box solution before. She pushed YH off the building and turned out that have saved and cured him out of his depression. I am waiting to see if SB has another solution to save YH.

  62. Spoiler is leaked!
    But im happy with it.
