Thank you @pkml3. The decision on our next rewatch will be settled by tomorrow, 19 February 2022, at our rewatch.
It’s looking like, since @WE is back, we can do what we said we wanted to rewatch last year, ie… party with W – Two Worlds In order to figure out what is happening in ‘W’, we have to watch every episode, so it’s going to take 17 weeks (maybe with a ‘gap’ week or so in between for Easter).
The START time will change to be one hour later.

I hope I’ll be able to get up and join the rewatch at 5am as usual tomorrow, but I have a late night tonight. As an early birthday present my hubby got us tickets to see the musical Hamilton. The show doesn’t start until 8pm, and it’s in Los Angeles, which means a long drive for us to get to and from the theater. I’ll be surprised if I can get to bed before midnight. Still, I’ll set my alarm for 4:30am and see if it’ll rouse me.

Aah, I liked Ep 14 for how ET unknowingly summoned KS and didn’t understand why seeing him kept making her cry, and how she fell in love with him as an adult. It was cute watching her anticipate her ‘date’ with him. Also the return of the great bromance!

ET scoffs : “I guess your first love told you that.”
KS : “Yes, and we even caught a maple leaf too.”
ET : “And you believed that? You caught the leave, and your love didn’t last! And now the person you’re walking with is me. Because that love didn’t last. And you’re interested in me! Men always talk about their past loves with women they are interested in. Like idiots.”
ET looks annoyed.
KS observes her with a small smile : “Is that right?”

When she’s by herself she scorns his childish belief in a woman who’d played him over a maple leaf LOL, never knowing she’s dissing herself.

@Cleopatra and @GB, I am here, but I’m not sure all my brain cells have joined me. Waking up was very difficult because I slept for less than three hours, so my alarm dragged me out of deep sleep and my eyes just don’t want to stay open.
I got home after midnight and didn’t get to bed until 1am. Even with my head on the pillow, I couldn’t sleep because I was so wound up. @Cleo, the play was fabulous. It exceeded my expectations, living up to the hype.

ET : “You saw her after you two broke up, too?”
KS : “Yes.”
ET : “Oh.” She’s displeased but he can’t stop smiling.
ET : “They say that people have a warped, rosy memory of their first loves so it’s quite a rude awakening to see them again later.”
KS : “That’s not true. She’s as pretty as she always was –”
ET cuts him off to call the waiter loudly and vehemently LOL.

At last he gets her to smile by saying that he wants to see her the next day and after that as well. I miss seeing ET’s smile.

I’m where Deok Hwa gets rejected (again). Always the bridesmaid, never the bride, eh?
While ET and KS are having their little ‘altercation’ over the person in the grave and whether KS is a ghost or is ‘Kim Shin’, we have a parallel scene where Wang Yeo meets Sunny and she introduces herself with confidence while asking for his name.
He hesitates before replying : “It’s Wang Yeo.”
Sunny : “It sounds just like a name that a king would have.” …”I’m Sunny. S-U-N-N-Y.”
He looks down,
Sunny : “I wanted to see you (which in Korean are the same words as ‘I missed you’). He therefore looks up surprised, perhaps hopeful.
Sunny : “I saw you on the CCTV footage, you see. And you were so handsome on the footage that I was really curious how handsome you’d be in real life. But you look better on the footage.” (LOL)
He laughs at that.
Sunny : “Thank you for delivering that letter. Thanks to that, PD Ji was able to go abroad, too. I’ll get going now, since I’ve seen you in person.”
She tells him not to cry out in the cold as his face will freeze over. That means she saw him outside and recognised him. He tells her it’s nice meeting her.
Outside she admits with tears in her eyes that it was nice meeting him too and calls him Kim Woo Bin.
KS denies that he is Kim Shin. He wants her to figure it out and remember on her own accord.
Sunny sees the boy whom ET befriended outside and gets him to come into the store where it’s warm.
Sunny talks crap about god.
Sunny : “You know, that god figure sure is problematic. Why couldn’t he make people’s lives equally happy instead of making some more miserable than others? Right? He’s so inconsiderate.”
Boy : “You’ll get punished if you say things like that.”
“It’s okay. I’ve encountered a goblin and his bride, as well as a grim reaper, so it’s okay if I curse him a little. And he gave me back my memories of my past life, then tried to erase them. I have no idea just how many people have suffered because of him.”
Boy : “Erasing memories is god’s way of being gracious to people, don’t you think? So that people won’t wallow in misery.” [The thunder and lightning come on at the same time and a white butterfly hovers around the Boy’s head.]
Sunny considers then scoffs : “Who does he think he is? Who gave him permission? You see that? (She points at the water supply in her store). Water is self-service for even god, in my store. And the same goes for my life. They’re my memories, and this is my life. So why is trying to be ‘gracious’ without asking me what I want?” (She sighs). “I’ll do what I want with my own life, so I wish he’d just get lost.”
Boy looks resigned : “Alright, I understand.”
Sunny laughs : “Who are you that you’re saying that you understand?”
Show ensures we know he’s the butterfly god with more thunder/lightning and the butterfly that Sunny does not seem to see.
KS is stalker mode LOL! Quebec is such a special place for them, it’s like they have the ability to reset and recall all the steps they did before and now as adults (at least for ET since KS is oldddd!).
@Welmaris, happy you enjoyed Hamilton! King George scene and song is such an LSS!
@Fern, I did wonder about that… why he denied being KS. Partly I think he told Reaper that he was afraid of confusing her by turning up in Quebec. Since he did turn up and did meet her, and now she seemed upset by finding his ‘grave’, he probably thought it was better he did not reveal himself and have to launch into explanations.
So you’re right. It was better that she remembered on her own.
I always like that scene where she was crying and asking for him to show up: “I miss you! I miss you so much! Where are you?”
This scene where Sunny remembers how she met ET 5 years before is also strange. WE SPOKE OF THIS LAST WEEK!!!
It means that ET lost her memories of Sunny completely… so how did she go back to get her things including her notebook. This is an interesting plothole but I missed it completely.

@GB, if she hadn’t remembered him it would have been dreadful for both of them. She would feel pressured and he would feel forever a stranger. He made the right choice at that point.

*Sob* Sunny’s farewell note … interspersed with scenes of GR and herself.
Sunny’s voiceover and we see that she’s typing out her story for the radio program : “To you, who thought that forgetting everything would put me at peace. I knew from the moment our eyes met that you had retained all of your memories, too. And because of that, in this lifetime, we …[She recalls him saying : “I pray that you have a happy ending, at the very least.] … have to pretend as if we don’t know about this tragic situation in our own ‘happy endings. I pray that in our next lifetime, the wait will be short and our time together will be long. I pray that you will be born with a face with which you won’t have to give me excuses to meet with me. And with an earnest name, which is the only one of its kind in the world. And that we’ll have a relationship in which we’ll run to each other to say hello if we bump into each other by chance. And that you’ll be a person who always has the right answer. That’s how I hope we’ll meet next time. It’s more than enough for me that I saw your face. You who are at times Kim Woo Bin and at times Wang Yeo, may you live a long, good life. Goodbye’.
It was such a painful punishment for both of them.
I liked how the music changed to a piano rendition in the restaurant just as the camera pans across a piano.
ET is out walking alone after the argument over the grave. She tries to catch a maple leaf.
KS thinks he made a mistake coming to see her. It might have been better for him to have been forgotten… but he dearly wished to see her.
At that moment, ET she sits at the fountain where they’d had a water fight, holding a leaf in hand, she lets it drop on the edge of the fountain and this brings back her memory of the leaf that fell on the page of her poetry book. So at the point KS thinks he should remain forgotten, she remembers him.
Memories [She had gone up to KS, calling him Ahjusshi. She remembered that she’d been the one to speak of catching the falling maple leaf. She’d said to KS that she thought he was the goblin and that she loved him. On another walk, KS had said ‘There’s no such thing as a sadness that lasts forever. (But we see that love can last forever).’ Young ET had responded : ‘I think that there is. … A sad love.’
Finally remembering who KS is she cries out : “I missed you so much!” She summons him on the street outside the Christmas store by blowing out it’s candle.

Sunny’s letter is heartbreaking…
I’m 20 minutes behind all of you, brain befuddled, and I accidentally started with Episode 16. Oops.
@Cleo, one thing to note with ET seeing the Canadian ghost: she can see ghosts again. She stopped seeing them shortly before the final confrontation with Park Joong Hun. I wonder what it means that she’s started seeing them again. It could be because she’s teetering on the edge of being Goblin’s bride…or on the edge of death. She is, after all, still Miscellaneous Omitted.
It touches me that Goblin is doing all he can to jog ET’s memory, as well as coming just short of openly confessing his love for her. But rather than being content to have the current ET fall in love with him again–as she’s doing, and not hiding it–he’s impatient. I don’t know why he didn’t answer ET honestly when she asked if they knew each other ten years prior. She valued him enough to give an honest answer when he asked if she liked him: yes. Although it may be amusing to watch Goblin continue to speak to ET about herself in the second person, describing his feelings for her, I find it a bit cruel he’s obfuscating. Why can’t he just say to her “It’s you! You’re my first love. Let’s work together to get back your memories.” But no…he ends up being so frustrated that he walks away from her. What? He refused to die because he wanted to be with her so badly, holding out in a godless between world for nine years because his longing for her was so strong, yet he becomes defeatist in the face of her forgetfulness and confusion? Stop being so petty and sulky, Goblin!
@Cleo, yes the notebook was with her. I forgot a moment. That means that she couldn’t find her way back home though. It’s confusing. She left her things in Sunny’s apartment and maybe in KS’s house as well.
Such an amazing scene as everything comes back to ET like a tidal wave.
This episode is really much harder on Sunny and GR. At least ET and KS have their joy for a while.
I love how ET is touching KS’s cheek when they are sitting on the sofa.
@Fern, yes this was a happy episode for ET, but a heart breaking one for Sunny. Their romances played out simultaneously, one re-igniting and one ending.

I know what you are saying, but at the same time scriptwise they didn’t have time. Mostly because they had to wrap it up in 16 episodes.
@Fern, she embarrasses him by touching him like that. LOL He exercised great self control in not just grabbing her hand, etc. etc.
Everytime KS says his first love has forgotten him, I can’t help but murmur to myself “and whose fault is that? Huh!”.
It must have been so hard for ET to feel that there’s something missing, a nagging feeling in her gut. It’s so sad to lose memories- it’s like losing part of yourself. That’s why I think Dementia and Alzheimer’s are such cruel diseases.
@Janey, yes those are scary diseases, especially when one knows it’s happening and can see oneself slipping away.
Oh, that scene of the soldier and his wife stuck on different sides of the DMZ. Where’s the tissue?
The theme of this episode is reunions, ET and KS, Sunny and Wang Yeo, GR and ET, … ET and Sunny.
I like how KS replies to ET’s words that she shouts to the wind. Before when she said she loved him he merely said ‘Me too.’ This time he says he misses her too.
At last ET is old enough so that KS does not have to hold back kissing her.
@Fern Ah yes, that soldier and wife reunion too! After 73 years!!! It never fails to grab my heart. It’s amazing that we only see those 4 actors (young and old version) for a few minutes, but we are so touched by their story.
@GB and @Fern they looked into everything. That story with the couple were apart for 73 was amazing.
There’s something about her asking him if he was buried somewhere warm. To console her he instead tells her about the azaeleas that bloom around him in the spring.
The other strange thing about ET’s memory, she remembers that Sunny is KS’s sister, and yet when she meets Sunny later, she says she wants to introduce KS to her. I found that weird. Sunny says no need, because she’d seen KS coming out of ET’s apartment. Maybe the editing got confused.
@Cleo I liked so many scenes in this episode.
Not only the soldier and wife couple but the collage of scenes of ET summoning KS.
Then we find she also still had great fears that it was all only a dream and that he was not really back in her life.

Show suddenly decided to throw in some PPL of Reaper’s watch and get Deok Hwa’s phone frozen over. I wonder why he has this great obsession with calling NASA.

When ET says that she missed Sunny, it could also mean that she missed the sajang-nim of her past, since she remembers her now.
I’m in our favorite part when ET finally remembers and starts running to the Christmas store to blow a candle while crying that she misses him. Then KS appears and kisses her. Awww my heart!!! I’ve repeated this scene many times when I first watched the show.

KS finds the weather good enough, ET gets to hear that she was the first love even when he saw her from his distant past and she admired his Goryeo look, so he proposes marriage to her. A cherry tree is right there blooming beautifully, most appropriately.

Oh yes, one more reunion was ET and her Aunt’s ghost!
Seeing all these reunions, plus the feel-good scenes, somehow gives one the feel that it’s a setup for a difficult denouement.
From her scrawled notes in her journal, and her memory flashbacks, ET confronts Goblin with questions about his identity and her relation to him. Her deductions are on target, yet Goblin denies the truths she’s gleaned. Why? What noble idiocy is this? I think, because of the juxtaposition of their story with Sunny & Wang Yeo’s, Writernim is hinting that ill-fated love, even if pure, should be avoided.
In the case of Sunny and Grim Reaper, both remember all their complicated past, yet they hide from each other that they remember. Sunny, who previously insisted that her life as Sunny is separate from Kim Sun’s, that she is her own person with her own destiny. Even when unknowingly faced with god himself, she insists that her life and memories are hers, not his, to control. And yet she makes herself punish Grim Reaper by withdrawing from him despite her deep love for him. She wants to be with him, but with him when he and she have equal fates. As it is, his fate as a Grim Reaper while she’s mortal means there can’t be a happy ending in this situation.
After watching Sunny wrestle with her feelings for Wang Yeo and make her painful choice to see her life through to the end without him, we go back to ET and see her regain her memories. She’s also facing a relationship with an immortal, but her feelings for him are overwhelming and she calls him back into her life. When ET sobs that she misses Goblin, it is so profound. All the grief she’d felt for nine years without understanding now had clarity.
Goblin again behaves badly, in my opinion. While sitting on the couch and quietly talking, ET keeps touching Goblin’s face. She’s trying to reassure herself that he’s really there, not a dream. Goblin says he’s committed to making ET happy, then immediately calls her out for making him feel awkward by touching him. Silly man! He’d previously been whining that he yearned she would run to him, hug him, hold his hand, etc. but didn’t because she’d forgotten him. So inconsistent, Goblin! Let her touch your face and stop complaining. Don’t make her feel bashful when you’ve finally gotten your wish.
@Janey, Yes the 25, 21 raw Episode 3 had indeed dropped.
@GB and @Cleo – upon meeting ET at the import in SK, did he bring her back again to Quebec hotel when the sliding doors opened and the kissed?
BTW, ET jumping on KS reminded me of YUmi’s Cells hotel scene. This seem to be a signature move of KGE. LOL!!!
Goblin had to wait 17 hours for human ET to travel in the manner normal for mortals. Being apart those hours was difficult for both of them, having just reunited and resumed their love. What does Goblin do as soon as he meets ET at the airport in South Korea? Takes her back to the hotel suite in Quebec. The man is done restraining himself; ET doesn’t hold back either. My assumption is that two deeply-in-love, consenting adults in a hotel room would not be content to kiss on the couch. Just saying…
Just one last note on our next Rewatch… I hope everyone saw the post above about the next show being ‘W – Two Worlds’ and that we’ll be starting an hour later.

Now we see the story of the married couple separated 73 years by the division of Korea. Both, now dead, remained true to their love into old age. Instead of “until death do us part,” they are reunited by death. They spent their lives waiting, missing each other. Why do we see their story now? We get the hint from Grim Reaper’s flashback immediately after this scene, about ET at age 29 meeting a grim reaper. We also see ET having severe anxiety about being apart from Goblin. We’re being primed by Writernim to expect another separation of ET and Goblin.
ET’s aunt makes another appearance, showing up in front of her apartment without warning. She’s as judgmental and greedy as ever, yet ET is forgiving. ET even takes care for her by providing her a meal. ET is much more mature emotionally than the aunt, or than she herself was while living with her aunt. She doesn’t need to seek revenge, or right her aunt’s wrong impressions of her. ET just lets her encounter with her aunt slide off her back like water off a duck.
Sunny has been a staunch supporter of ET for most of her adult life. ET has relied on her, and Sunny has been gracious about providing help without strings attached. ET, with past memories restored and knowing they’d built a strong friendship a second time, can’t imagine life without Sunny in it. So when Sunny says her gentle goodbye to ET, ET doesn’t believe it is Sunny’s farewell to her.

@Welmaris – so true what you said on the old couple who gets reunited in death. We get a proposal from KS in the end but the 29 age, meeting GR and being able to see ghosts again seem foreboding for more more challenges to come. I just want the goblin couple to have a break and be happy.
ET and Goblin are strolling side by side, chatting comfortably. They’re spending time together enjoying the simple life. Without a big flourish, Goblin turns to ET: “I’m saying this because it’s a good enough day.” He asks ET to marry him using words that have history between them, the poem he spoke to her in a more fraught time. Goblin is happy: cherry trees are blooming over their heads. But we know, without seeing the previews, that another crisis is ahead for their relationship. It has been foreshadowed throughout the series, and especially through this episode. ET’s mortal life, her borrowed borrowed time, are coming to their end. We’ve been warned. Have plenty of tissues at hand next week!
I can’t believe I was able to stay awake and watch Episode 15 with you this morning. And I finished much quicker than I usually do, by several hours! I’m going back to bed now. Sometime later I’ll come back to read all the comments and join the conversation instead of mumbling to myself.
Thanks, all, for the early birthday wishes. I have nothing planned for the actual day itself, but last night my younger daughter scolded me that she chose the dates for her trip from Seattle specifically to spend my birthday with me. So I’d better get my act together!
