2D1N: Ep 117 Open Thread

I wonder what games will be played this weekend to determine who will eat dinner, sleep indoors, and get off work early? I hope it’s an English Speed Quiz.

We have three English speakers in the group, and they’re spread among the teams.

The 2 Johns team has Inwoo, but Jongmin stinks at these games, producing all the laughs.

JungHoon speaks English with an American accent but he’s very literal. Ravi doesn’t speak English very well but he’s good listening comprehension. He has creative way of explaining words. He said he receives English tutoring once a week so he must have improved already.

I think this team has an advantage.

Dindin speaks English and Seyoon gets by.

I watched Ep 101 on Viki (timestamp 1:01:30) when the five old members last played this game. They were so funny trying to guess the word, I almost split my sides.

Here’s the preview.

I think they aren’t allowed to speak English even as a filler word. But Seyoon said “okay” twice. First time (at 1:21), the PD heard him and a point was deducted. The second time, which JongMin surprisingly heard, they lost 5 points. Thus, Dindin was scolding him.

Looking forward to this Sunday’s show.

  1. 😂😂😂 IW is just as bad if not worse than DongGu was at ping pong? O no…I had the impression that he was relatively coordinated and could play ball sports. I guess I was wrong.

  2. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Yeah! I had flashback of DongGu flubbing his serves. 😂

But heyyy, DongGu did practice after that, didn’t he? Didn’t they show clips of his training? DongGu is a kind soul too but he is rather competitive.

  3. @packmule3 yes DongGu could run like the wind though? 😂. I have yet to figure out what IW’s skill is other than being very good natured? I guess his enthusiasm is a plus? He did cover that boat ride well – the one where Ravi and DinDin got sick in. He’s not as quick witted as Ravi. And thus far he doesn’t seem to be particularly intelligent or wide read 😂😂😂.

  4. And yes, DG did practise after that. He was determined to show a better side of himself after that disastrous first outing.

  5. I just saw the clip on YT of the whole table tennis match.

    https://youtu.be/vlxteFGb9h4

This is “Tortoise and the Hare” fable re-enacted. But the tortoises were a bit noisy, though. 😂

  6. It’s also legendary how they renamed Yoon ShiYoon just like that. The birth of Dong Gu? 😂

  7. I think the English word is “King”. Ravi kept tripping up on the word during the table tennis game.

Meanwhile, Seyoon’s filler word is “Okay.”

  8. @packmule3 I think DongGu was the name he was born with. He picked up YSY when he became an actor. If I remember correctly they decided to refer to him as DG on the variety to delineate him from YSY the actor. It’s like what happens on the show stays on the show. 😂. I think a lot of actors don’t like being regulars on variety for that very reason, it reveals too much of their real persona? And if their persona in the entertainment world is a carefully curated ideal, then the slip ups that inevitably occur in the variety filming will jeopardise that. IW seems to have no such qualms about revealing his ineptitude 😂. Doesn’t take himself too seriously. I like that about him.
