2D1N: Eps 134 & 135 Open Thread

@nrllee, have you watched this? It’s their Tropical Night Special and they began filming at that haunted high school.

I can’t write much because I don’t want to give away spoilers. But here are my general comments:

a. Na Inwoo got lost again during a mission. This kid needs to have a tracking device on him.

b. The members have different reactions to ghosts. Kim JongMin, who’s done this so many times in his career as a variety show entertainer, is chill. Dindin, who must have gotten bullied a lot in school, was on offense. Kim JungHyun was a scaredy-cat. Inwoo was a screamer. And Moon SeYoon was distracted by rameon. lol.

c. I died laughing at the ghost race (around 56 minute mark). You should watch it. The director and screenwriters were very creative.

Hope you have time to watch it.

  1. I am half way through the Tropical Night Special. It was interesting to see how they reacted to ghosts. I agree about IW 😂🙄. He can’t seem to stay focused or gets distracted easily by random things? Like the sheet of paper outside the school? 😂. He overthinks or goes off on strange tangents because he thinks there might be a clue or important detail in what he’s found? 😂. As a result he takes forever to find the classroom with there ghost students. JongMin was funny too – so calm 😂. And DinDin using the broom (?) as protection. I didn’t think JungHoon would react like he did because he said he wasn’t scared. I got to MS heading to the school to find them and had to stop to do something else. Will continue tonight.

  2. ^sorry meant MSY

  3. IW is like a squirrel trying to cross the street. It overthinks whether it should cross the road or not, and zigzags all over the place.

I laughed at the background music while he was lost again. “Ai ya ya yai.” That’s his signature song, thanks to PD Bang. Do you know the name of the music? Is it that Spanish song, “Canta y no llores” (“Don’t cry. Sing!)? I can’t tell.

Jong Min’s hiding place was clever. He was only startled by sudden movements but he wasn’t scared of ghosts.

I suspect Dindin hit the ghosts or something not fit for viewing because much of his segment was edited out. 😂

  4. @packmule3 I guess it’s good that none of them were morbidly fearful of ghosts. Cha TaeHyun was petrified. I still remember how he was terrified when they forced him into the Haunted House at the Fair. He was literally white as sheet waiting his turn and looked like he was ready to wet his pants. And they did one ep in a vacated school with ghosts as well. I vaguely remember they had to retrieve certain items from the school. DongGu (I think he’s Christian) wasn’t scared at all. He actually laughed (after he startled) and then greeted the ghosts politely who jump scared him. 😂😂

I will rewatch the segment with IW and try to make out the music. I hadn’t noticed it. I just remember when he was wandering about, they cut back to MSY waiting and the PD informed him that IW had gone walkabout again 😂 and SY just rolled his eyes as if to say, “typical”. He would’ve had to wait a long time. I vaguely remember JongMin (?) took 20min. And if the others took longer than that (especially IW 😂), he would’ve been waiting close to 2hrs or more before he got to go find them.

  5. Speaking of DongGu, are you watching his weekend kdrama? It’s a longer series (50+ episodes?). But I heard it has garnered good ratings.

Is DongGu Christian? I thought he was Buddhist or Confucian. Wait a sec…I remember seeing a cross in his house or his grandparents’ house where he grew up.

  6. @packmule3 yeah he’s Christian. That was his appeal for me 😂. He would always give thanks before he ate on 2D1N. And he refrained from participating when they did a fortune telling segment in one of the eps. For that I respected him. His career has taken a dive so he’s gone into the weekend soaps. I guess the man’s gotta make a living. I don’t have the time and patience to watch those 50ep long soaps. I am glad that the ratings have been good for him. He needs to reinvent himself somehow to keep relevant. I am a bit worried for NIW though. He seems to have been pigeonholed into the nerdy good hearted (read not very smart) boy next door role. Since RWTMR, his 2 roles, in Cleaning Up and Jinxed At First have very similar characters. I didn’t watch him in Mr Queen. Did he have a wider emotional range in that drama?

  7. Finished Tropical Night Special. I agree that it was well done. The instruction to MSY “Not to look back”? That was genius. Everyone knows it’s the creepy feeling of dread having someone on your tail and visualizing what they could do to you that’s 1000x worse! 😂. And laughed when MSY got distracted by a ghost cooking Ramyeon 😂. Do ghosts need to eat? DinDin the cheeky bugger was found but ran and escaped. Lived another “life” as a result. 😂. And that race for your life bit at the end was hilarious. The ghost on the motorcycle 😂😂😂.

I think PD is getting into his groove. After the initial hiccup in the first couple of eps, these latter eps are much improved entertainment wise. 👍

  8. Yes, the “Don’t look back” Ghost was a psychological game. I wonder what would have happened if he did look back. Would he have turned to salt like in Sodom and Gomorrah?

The Ghost-cooking Ramyeon — if Inwoo got distracted by paper, then MSY wasn’t any different from him when it came to food. He instantly forgot about his mission when he saw the noodles being cooked. LOL sharing the noodles with the ghost!

I bet the “Race for your life” will be one of the memorable games in this season. I couldn’t stop laughing:

Inwoo ran like the devil was after him. His face was funny!
    his ghost chaser just collapsed
Dindin’s shoelaces after he removed his insoles — did he have to triple-knot it?
JungHoon being roughed up by three ghosts
JongMin’s ghost had a prop malfunction. Did they really think that they could catch him like a butterfly?
then the motorcycle ghost — that’s going to be classic. MSY just gave up halfway when the motorcycle zoomed past him.

The scriptwriters were ingenious, and the staff had a blast too. The captions were hysterical, too. It showed the year that they died because their ghosts caught up with them.

    It was a fun show.

  9. @packmule3 I am looking forward to more surprises this week. I sort of hope they would start to invite guests to add to the mix somewhat. JungHoon’s wife didn’t really count for much. It was nice but it would be better if they added someone single. 😂. I always enjoyed those in S3 because the single boys would act all awkward and that added to the entertainment value. 😂

  10. I got my wish. 😂😂😂. Guests. But not quite what I (or the boys) expected 😂😂😂. The dinghy ride 😂😂😂. The mud festival. I just laughed at the boys this ep. Nothing fantastic to write home about but it was just funny watching them. Poor DinDin was the only one pedaling at the end with MSY? I felt bad for him. The mud bucket dump and then having to pedal on his own because MSY was tired. Next ep looks like a trip down memory lane (15th year anniversary special). I’ve only watched S3 so I don’t know anything about S1&2.
