  1. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thank you my dear efficient @pkml3. I’ll have a good reunion dinner and come along for the Rewatch. What a great Chinese New Year (CNY)!!!

    Have a great weekend! 🙂

  2. Looking forward to the rewatch of MOTA on Saturday. I Enjoy the mix of a repeat viewing, the discussion of Prince Harry’s “tragedy” and introduction to Georgette Heyer’s novels that I’ve found here . I was able to find only one of her works, The Corinthian, in my countywide library system. Enjoyed the quick read which did include way more Regency underworld vocabulary than I’ll ever need to know.😂😂 Written in 1940, it is obvious that the mores of that time comfortably accept the relationship of a 17 year old woman with a 29 year old man. By today’s “standards” we shouldn’t root for this couple! Oh well😔

  3. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@Lootie Lyn, as always, I’m very happy that anyone enjoys their time on BOD. Congrats for stumbling upon us!!! LOL.

Yes, we are an eclectic bunch, chatting about an eclectic mix of topics, often with dramas as the launching pad, but not always.

I have yet to check out whether my library has any GH books… I kind of doubt it though.

I hope to see you here on Saturday!

  4. I quickly pop here to say hello, and see you tomorrow ! 😘😘

  5. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Hi @WE, see you tomorrow!

  6. @GB, enjoy your dinner! I am only doing one reunion dinner this year because I can’t catch up with the spring cleaning and am running short of time. I hope to be able to join you all later for the re-watch.

To BODers who celebrate Lunar New Year 新年快乐,万事如意。

  7. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Sure thing @Feifei. I’ve just finished my reunion dinner and the washing up with help from family and am now able to sit back and relax before our fun Rewatch Party. Hope to see you soon!! 🙂

  8. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

4 minutes to go and I’m hovering online.

  9. Hello ! I set the alarm clock to be on time 😉

  10. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @WE, you’re one minute early.

    Let’s start now!!!

  11. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

From the way JW walks, without a limp, we know it’s sometime early in the game… actually it’s one year in the past.

  12. Ok, I pass the credit, go in the story.
    Beautiful landscape of grenada.

  13. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    @WE picturesque little lanes.

LOL Yang Ju is playing the game vicariously through his CEO.

  14. I set colors a bit higher on my screen. Because I find the directing lack a bit of colors. Very cold and naturalistic image style. A bit too much.

  15. This episode is important because at the end there is the “inciting event”. It’s quite funny to know it happen after 3h in this drama, when it can be after 10 minutes in a movie, or was half of first episode in W.

  16. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I find the light in that part of the world has a light yellow tinge. Different from light in S Korea.

Fortunately the archers have only so-so aim.

So immersive, we’re running along with him with shaky camera. High stress music.

  17. Camera moves are so great here. But I dislike the music, too cheap one.
But now, we have the next music, aaah I like a lot this one. Most serious one.

  18. Bug glitch. Server error connexion. 🙂

  19. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, inciting? As in getting the Hostal from Hee Ju?

Yes, it took 3 episodes when it should have taken the first few minutes in a movie.

The special effect of rain is amazing with just a contact lens. The sound and sometimes the sky changes.

  20. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The rain signals that he’s near cafe Alcazaba? Will it always rain there?

This was the place where HJ worked some years ago. Se Ju used the most familiar places in which to stage parts of his game.

  21. GB, the main point is when he kill the other CEO in the game. Because it’s supposed to be a game, but the guy really die.
This event is somewhat easy to guess for the audience, but still, it’s the point, and nicely done.
But because the story spend 3h on the real game (without problems), maybe it can surprise some people when it happens.

  22. Always raining a Alcazaba.
Maybe a symbolism for the tears of Emma. Because it’s in this place the first “bug” happens. Marco stab Se-ju here and break the rules of the game, as this place is a “no battle allowed” place.

  23. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Oh yes, I forget, Ep 3 ends with HS dying. I thought the long set up was to show us what the game could do. I suppose his death might surprise some viewers.

Now YJ wants to eat vicariously those churros through JW LOL. Actually I find that JW hardly eats on this show.

    We get to meet Emma.

  24. The amount of food on the table of this poor family. ahhha.

  25. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

That’s interesting… the tears of Emma. I thought it was a set up so that players would know they are near the cafe.

Backstory of HJ whose father is very impulsive and ill-advised.

  26. Here the background story is so quick it looks like makjang style. No time too loose. Death because too tired, then death in car accident because too sad of first death. Accelerating clichés. LOOL!!

  27. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

JW’ retelling of the past reminds us that we are watching a long flashback.

  28. Just make the parent die, damn-it. in any way.
First thing you get in mind. Shoooo.

  29. Song Jae Jung style of voice-over. Some sentences here or there, not to fast and not too much at once.

  30. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I like the instrumentals more than the songs in the OST. But this one with the flashback is nice.

We finally come to one year ago when HJ was wearing this long red checked shirt.

Voiceover: “It didn’t seem like her life would get better unless some kind of magic suddenly happened.” That’s when JW rang her doorbell that night. He arrogantly thought he was bringing her magic, which was true to an extent, but he was entering a nightmare himself.

  31. + flashback of first meeting. Ah.

  32. The clownish scene of “sign the hotel selling”.

  33. Notice the number of times she’s about to sign with the pen, but… NO!!!!
Just to play on the nerves of Jin-Woo.
And with our nerves too ahaha.

  34. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

High pressure tactics to get her to sign without knowing why or having an opportunity to confer with anyone. I personally don’t like that kind of sales.

We goo back to the phone call about the patent. The game is patented under the family business. So in order to get the patent, the game, the license, the core technology that are all registered, without anyone’s consent, JW has to buy the Hostal.

The hard-headed businessman took action straightaway to do so. He more or less cornered Hee Ju and left her without anyone to consult. Rushed her into making a decision, with a countdown in which she loses money if she takes time to think. Seems like sneaky sales tactics.

  35. Gloob, Jin Woo swallo is saliva. ahah.

  36. “swallow his”

  37. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I found this part pretty long-drawn out. I can’t blame her for indecision… it was too sudden and strange, and the property was the only thing they had as a family. They’d be left homeless without it.

  38. Ah I’m late on you in the watching.
I don’t get yet that scene, but I remember it.
Quite nice, we have first the situation,
    then the explanation.
    well, typical SJJ style.
But always not easy to think about and make.

  39. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

No, I’m watching at the same rate as you, just that I copied and pasted from my notes.

Even Park wants to ‘defraud’ HJ of her Hostal. Later he’s quite polite to HJ, possibly he feels a bit guilty?

  40. Here the prop is not easy:
Find me a toilet where I can film from above, with a robust door so the heroin can break it to escape.

  41. “can’t break”

  42. The painfull fake boyfriend, not even able to help her and answer the phone, the only time he could. ahaha. cruel.

  43. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Such a joke that important decisions have to be made in toilets. This is one occasion. @pkml3 points out this in one of her posts.

Usually a person is in a hurry to use the toilet, but here she’s taking so long and is in a hurry to get out. Of all persons, she only gets the advice of her younger sister, LOL. Of course the money would decide everything.

  44. The little sister has more pragmatic sens of the situation.
Take the money, stupid unnie !!

  45. Phone in the toilet. Notice also, just before, a shot on the phone: anyway the battery was low, so it could be used too to prevent her to communicate, ahahah, that trap.

  46. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL, yes, they had to locate such a toilet with that kind of cubicle. It might be more common over there though.

This is one of the comedic scenes… do we get more? All that can go wrong… goes wrong… even the phone enters the toilet.

Finally she has to break down the door.

  47. Find any way so the heroin faint in the arms of the hero. loll! I don’t think she should faint for that, but who care ? Let’s just make people faint when we need to in dramas. 🙂
    Little bobos are welcome too.

  48. Park shin hye make him crack with her sad eyes, then… FAINT AGAIN!! llolololol.

  49. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I always wondered why she fainted again. Did she use her head to knock down the door?

LOL the discussion of 3 minutes before she faints away again.

She gets all 10 billion despite the delay. Even her phone gets fixed (so convenient having a secretary to run errands!).

Finally her life was touched by magic.

  50. His sudden love for her after her sad speech make her faint, or something meta of this kind. lol.

  51. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I was wondering if there was any hidden significance in the time taken to sign the Hostal away, the falling out of the cubicle on the door, etc. They were quibbling about the time, and JW was waiting for some 45 minutes outside for her.

Later he falls from the 6th floor, is unconscious and beomes lame, and at the end, she has to wait for him for months.

  52. Now she cry because she’s happy.
This actress is so great. Most of the time, she make feel something. Very expressive.

  53. The ex wife. Lot of charm. The way she move her head with sensuality when she leave the balcony.

  54. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

JW preferred her as Emma rather than as HJ at first. Can’t think he would fall in love with her at this stage but Emma intrigued him more and he wanted to know about HJ.

  55. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

I wonder if HS every really cared for Su Jin. He may have taken her away from JW out of revenge.

  56. The argument, because it’s misunderstanding.
She think he’s jaleous, when in real he think about his bussiness.

  57. Yeah there is a clear turning point (don’t remember when) when he considers hee-ju instead of emma.

now there is the henchmen at se-ju’s.
Then they speak about marco. But here of course, I can just say it’s a bit confusing because we have a mention about a guy we don’t know and never seen. SO it’s impossible to catch that first time you see the drama.
But it’s ok, just a scene like that, when hospital playlist is full to the brim of this kind of thing.

  58. The battle scene. Violent when we think it’s a game. But before, a violent argument too.
What I like in kdrama, they are so good about arguments scenes.

  59. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The last moments she’ll ever have with her husband but she does not know it. By rights, the game should not have killed him, but when two humans fight each other, even when Emma was not present, they activate the bug or something in the game.

Instead of just being in an AR game they become part of the game and the game becomes a sort of reality for them and can really hurt them in game mode. But the wounds are invisible in reality.

The same thing but in reverse is shown in how JW can walk without a limp in the game world, while he limps in reality.

  60. Jin woo arrogant.
We could think he’s the villain here and the other the good guy.

  61. GB, I see you have solid notes. 😉 🙂

  62. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL @WE, you can never get over Hospital Playlist’s exposition about an unseen character. A big ‘crime’ of screenwriting.

  63. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

What HS says to JW about admitting that he’s the problem in the failure of his marriages… can be applied to him admitting that he’s the problem in the AR game.

Only when he came to the stage where he could be ‘fixed’ could he have a chance to quit the game.

  64. This guy doesn’t deserve to die, he was a good husband too. Unfortunaly a bit alcoolic because problems with jin-woo and father.

    Argument continue, without mercy.
    Traitor, coward, etc.

  65. Jin woo kill him morally before
to kill him in the game and so
    kill him for real.
    gosh

  66. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

No one should have died, but the game was going wrong once Marco died, although we don’t know this at this stage.

HS and JW are enemies but they are grey characters. The actual villain is someone else or other people.

Physical contact is prohibited… this too might have been what got the program going wrong/set the bug in action

  67. First blow in the chest was enough, but…
let’s add some more blows for the fun then…
    a great final one.
    AAaaAHHHHH!!
Really to Mark-the-point of this death in the drama.

  68. a strange shot on a black statue, you saw ?

  69. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

JW said he totally destroyed HS, which was true. He left without ever turning around to look at HS even.

Poor YJ totally missed the duel. What a disappointment for JW.

  70. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Black statue? Let me rewind. Just at the end of the duel?

  71. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yes, that black statue, with ominous sound. Not sure of the significance, though.

  72. Well, a dark presage. Something inanimate.

  73. Well, I go back to writing/corrections. 🙂
    See you soon !!

  74. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

See you! Note that in the comments I’ve included breaks from the Rewatch.
