Broad Comments over Episodes 25 and 30
EPISODE 25 begins with the masked FFB making his way unerringly to XY’s bedroom.
XY : “You have so many fair-weather friends. Why would you come to me?”
FFB : “As you said, they are fair-weather friends.” (He starts coughing blood. So the weather is no longer fair at the moment. Heh!)
XY gives him some medication that is supposed to be very effective generally. He drinks it without hesitation or question.
XY : “You do trust me. Who exactly is after you?”
FFB : “5th and 7th Kings.”
XY : “Hasn’t your family already pledged allegiance to them? What exactly did you do to have them hunting you down everywhere?”
He just smiles weakly. She lets him rest on her bed. She informs him that because CX has a lack of status, she might not be able to help him if the guards do a thorough search.
XY : “Too bad you’re not a real libertine. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have this much trouble.” (Does she mean that he’d have many other ladies he could hide out with?)
He smiles and closes his eyes.
When the medicine has no effect on FFB XY asks again : “Who are you? Such a good healing medicine has no effect on you at all.”
FFB says for possibly the 3rd or 4th time : “Who do you want me to be?”
(That’s a loaded question. Obviously he wants to know if she ever wanted FFB to be XL, although he made a show of denying it.)
XY : “Whoever you are.” She throws his hand back but he grabs her arm and gets to a sitting position. When he tells her that he needs to heal, XY is at last certain that this is Xiang Liu.
He take so much blood stuck on her wrist instead of neck LOL that even XY faints. He lies behind her and moves further away out of respect for her as a woman.
EPISODE 30
It’s XL’s turn to save and heal XY. He looks like death himself, because the poisonous bug is attacking his heart, since XY is lifeless.
He brings her the secret underwater shell/Clam. He conjures a shell in his hand, stabs his own heart to get the blood for XY, and directs it into her. She receives it well unlike the drink that CX tried to pour into her mouth.
The light in her heart starts to shine through as she receives XL’s heart blood.
Although XL had told CX that this was business and he’d ask for his end of the deal once XY was well enough, he was already repaying everything and more than what XY had given him.
I listed elsewhere reasons why XL makes the good that he does a business deal… but a new one occurred to me. Where XY is concerned, another reason could be that it hides the fact that he loves XY. If this is widely known, XY would become his weakness or rather, she’ll be in danger because she’d be targeted by his enemies.
EPISODE 30
Rant Against Jing
In the face of CX (and even Xin Yue) doing everything in their power to save XY, followed by XL who despite suffering the pains of the poisonous bug, cut through the Chenrong force field and came bloody to save XY with his own heart blood and life, I look back at what Jing did and … err, either than bringing her down from being tied up, he did NOTHING!!!
Jing : “Xiao Yao, I only want to be your Ye Shi Qi. Didn’t we agree that I’ll be with you forever? You can’t abandon me. Wherever you go, I’ll follow.” And he closes his eyes waiting to be burnt alive. His thought was for himself. Thinking he had lost her, he simply gave up. No thought for his family or loyal followers. Not my idea of a hero at all!!!
In the name of what kind of rescue is it that the rescuer merely sits with the injured person without carrying them out for treatment? He was so negative in his mind that he never admitted of a doubt that she might be saved. He never even tried!
When he first rescued XY from XL years before, he had enough spirit power to knock out XL’s soldiers. Why can’t he suppress some of the fire to make a safe path and get out of there? Another alternative… could he not send out his Cutie Fox or something to lead others to him? There were bound to be people about with spirit power … he could have asked for help from them like CX, but no, he sits there, letting his cloak catch fire, to commit suicide no less!!!
So he merely goes into a coma while fires spring up and rage around them, instead of escaping. Did the novel have this? This was not a rescue but a suicide and let die. All he does is ask XY to open her eyes, and apologises to her. Can I throw something at him?
After XL takes XY away, CX asks after Jing and is shocked (as well he might be) to hear that although Jing was not badly hurt, he was in a coma because he tried to commit suicide. Selfish stupidity, your name is Tushan Jing/Ye Shi Qi!
EPISODE 30
CX’S BEGRUDGING ADMISSION ABOUT XIANG LIU
The plot twist that I’d love the most is the one where CX and XL stop being enemies and even collaborate for something good.
I foresee that now CX is successfully King of Xiyan, XL has the right to call in the debt of a mountain peak on Chenrong. Will that be the start of more enmity or a chance to make peace? We will maybe find out in S2.
First of course, XL has to stop trying to shoot CX with an arrow LOL.
In any case. I transcribed with a wry smile the exchange between CX and XL.
Before that… I felt that CX sounds a bit like Jing when he speaks with the ‘dead’ XY. CX tells XY that she’s tough and he knows she’ll pull through. He’s another one telling her that she cannot abandon him.
CX : “Didn’t we have a deal?” (Yeah, you and 2 other guys!!!) “We’ll cover Zijin Peak with Poinciana trees. … You must keep your word and stay with me.” (Put that way, he sounds as selfish as Jing).
When XL arrives pale and bleeding, as usual CX asks if he’s the top star: “XL have you come to kill me?”
XL says he is not there to kill but to save an acquaintance from Qingshui Town. (Nothing selfish about that.)
CX : “You can save her?”
XL : “Let me take her. I can save her.”
XL : “Thankfully you let so many people keep giving her spirit power, and bought her some time. Otherwise, I can’t save her at this point.”
CX : “How long do you need?”
XL : “I don’t know. Maybe a year or two. Maybe decades.”
CX thinks : “As long as you can help her recover, I’ll try anything, no matter what.”
CX to XL : “Take her with you…. XL if you dare to hurt her, I’ll wipe out the Chenrong Army and shred you into pieces.”
XL : “Even if I don’t hurt her, won’t you still want to wipe out the Chenrong Army, and shred me into pieces?”
CX admits : “You’re so crazy that you’re interesting. No wonder XY became friends with you. (LOL. CX if you find him so interesting, why not befriend him too?! Keep your enemies closest to you!)
CX deplores the fact that he has no power to stop XL.
XL : “Even your grandfather cannot contain me. Let’s talk business and agree on a deal.”
CX : “If you can cure XY, I’ll give you whatever you want.”
XL : “Don’t worry, I won’t let anyone gossip about Princess and me, the furtive demon, and ruin her reputation. I will only save her.”
All through the years in Clam, XL was fair and square healing XY without a whimper of what XY promised him or that she should not abandon him. He only threatened an unconscious XY : “I sacrificed one life to save you. If you dare to die, I’ll chop you up and feed you to the fish.” LOL. His was the least selfish attitude of all.

That was a great scene and a great reveal. Watching it, I wished it was an entire surprise but the show did a great job of letting us know and allowing us to doubt who FFB was.
But what about the anomaly of FFB being poisoned by XY when she first tested out his identity??? Was that ever explained?
EPISODE 30
The deal: I like your extra reason for the deal that XL strikes with CX.
One more reason in the same vein, arguably, is that CX would not believe that XL would act without a self-serving motive. So XL needed to strike a deal to save XT.
RANT AGAINST JING
@GB – I shared your frustration when watching this.
Now, I read somewhere that they could not escape because the fires were an impenetrable formation. I also read – it’s not clear when we watch the show, that Jing pours his own spirit energy into XY so that she has a chance of life and this is at his own expense.
The way it comes across on TV is as resignation and defeat. I think the story telling is at fault.
XL AND CX COLLABORATE
I liked this conversation and what was happening in CX’s thinking.
Just one comment – I loved the comedy threat about chopping up XY and feeding her to the fish! Hot tempered anti-hero!

EPISODE 29
FFB getting poisoned was a good way to convince XY that he was not XL. No explanation was given, but my guess is that XL could always have allowed poison to affect him, but except for that time, never did. I believe that he preferred to keep his FFB identity separate from his XL identity.
EPISODE 30
The deal: Yes that is a likely reason too for making his good deed a ‘deal’ in front of CX. If it looked like a personal thing, CX would have been more reluctant to let XL take XY. It had to look like a reasonable thing for XL to do.
RANT AGAINST JING
Well that’s one redeeming factor, and a pity it didn’t seem obvious.
However, I felt that even before the fire surrounded them, there had been a time when Jing could have done something more.
XL AND CX COLLABORATE
So do I. I want to believe that CX evinced a begrudging respect for his mortal enemy. He might have wondered why XY got on with XL, even helping him in that attack against CX just before she found out who CX was. The fact that XL was not only deadly but interesting was novel to CX.
