  1. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @pkml3! This Show is just so good even after all these years, and with each rewatch. There’s barely a plot hole (or none that I can see), the sentiments portrayed are raw and right, the time logic works. The relationships work.

This episode we finally get to see more backstory, begin to see more connections and the pathos builds.

  2. @GB I agree with you. This episode Has a unique quality to it that allows the characters And their relationships to be More in the forefront. A subdued episode from the point of view of action I’m crying solving.

I just watched the episode because I will not be able to join you on saturday but will comment if I have the opportunity and will be back next week.

  3. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    Catch ya later @MM!

  4. Hello.

  5. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi Everyone, it is 10pm where I am! Let’s start now!!!

  6. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @WE! Ready for the strong heart-tugging moments?

  7. Hi GB. I start!
It seems the credits are different?

  8. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, yes, I think they start to sometimes use the old credits and these shorter new ones.

  9. @GB, arf, I’m tired. I don’t think I’ll be excited. I have a flat ECG. Jaded about everything.

  10. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Sorry to hear that @WE… well you may be heart-‘dead’ but not brain-dead, hey?

  11. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

This is the first time SH meets JH’s dad and sees his home. I love dad’s expression when she calls him ‘father’. That is a sign that she wants to be his daughter-in-law.

  12. Hi @WE, @GB, I am late, but I will catch up.

  13. No way to get a romantic scene between those two ones. ^^

  14. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Hi @FF, good to see you!

LOL SH uses her detective skills to figure out that JH is trying to resign on his dad’s birthday.

  15. Hi FF. He resigns. I don’t remember well previous episode. I got an argument with the police chief?

  16. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, ‘romantic’ scene comes much later in another episode. In this ep I really like that SH gets to sweetly push JH into cooking for his dad when neither one of them can cook LOL. She does not even know what seaweed looks like!!!

  17. She’s not good at cooking. Really a woman cop. lol.

  18. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, it was because he could not stop the police from arresting Park Sun Woo, whom he was quite sure was innocent. He knew that the investigation had been fixed and that the police were doing it (BB Kim) so he wanted to resign.

However, this visit of SH managed to change his mind. But only when she’s drunk LOL.

  19. Haha Soo Hyun does not even know how seaweeds look like yet she boasts that she can cook!

  20. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOLOL she sings so loudly and so badly that the taxi driver kicks them out!!! Now’s the time he gets to hear her tell him why he should not quit the job.

  21. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, it’s say anything to get into the good books with future father-in-law… and at least to get to stay longer at his place.

  22. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Here comes the heart-tugging part… finally a chance to say goodbye to his son.

  23. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

It’s so ironic-pathetic-sad that all he sees are bones but he calls them his son….

  24. Oh dear we are brought back to reality, they found his bones in the last episode.

  25. I was reading screenplay tips from a guy about this:
Character reaction, should have emotional truth but be surprising.
It’s really what is the father reaction.
Obvious choice would be just he is sad.
But surprising: he thanks to see his son, even dead.
    Do a more moving scene.

  26. Jae Han has been missing for 15 years?

  27. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The old dad of JH really knows how to squeeze out my tears.

Now we get a collage of conversations between JH and HY…. JH’s strong sense of justice comes through. He wants the world to be better in 2015 than it was in 1999.

  28. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Interesting advice about screenplay emotions @WE.

Although HY asks if JH wants to know his own future, JH is very wise in desisting.

  29. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, yes, he was officially declared missing in Nov 2000 but he actually was killed in August.

  30. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

HY says that despite the circumstances of JH’s life and death, there are people who remember him. “To Det Lee JH, that will be enough to comfort him.”

SH says that the two of them had not even taken a single decent photo together. If she had known the last time that she’d seen him, she’d have done something to leave something behind. That is her greatest regret.

  31. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

We get to see personal connections and touches from SH’s memory, adding to the pain and pathos of the loss of JH. The worst thing BB Kim did was to fix a false corruption charge on JH after he died.

  32. They killed him and frame him as a corrupt policeman. The baddies are incorrigible.

SH’s regret of not having pictures with JH is regrettable but it was not as easy as now where people can just snap pictures with their handphones. At least they get their closure.

  33. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The sad scene where the only photo SH has of her and JH is the funny one done for an advertisement, and hidden behind the photo of Batman. This was something that JH had kept and SH had found in his things after he went missing.

So much pathos and that piece of music…

  34. @WE, maybe it is a good thing to have a flat ECG for today’s episode.

  35. It’s damn slow paced, for 25 minutes now.
As it’s well on screen because music and actors, I wonder how is the screenplay. Is it boring to read?
When I think about that: I have Signal screenplay. Only, the format makes it too difficult to translate.

  36. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, good point about not having a live ECG. I always feel so much when I see SH and JH’s dad grieving, at every rewatch.

Now HY find to his surprise that JH had the card from the restaurant that HY himself had used to frequent as a child and young adult.

Backstory!!! So touching in its own way. And one of the reasons for the connection between JH and HY, that the spirit of JH in the walkie talkie chose to establish.

  37. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, the music and the expressions of the actors make up for the slowness.

Now JH sees properly, Hae Young for the first time, as the little brother of Sun Woo that he failed to save. He starts to link Hae Young to Sun Woo as brothers and confirms it.

  38. I think this is the first time that Hae Young came into physical contact with Lee Jae Han (indirectly). Other times they merely talk over the walkie talkie and some paper information that Hae Young dig up on Jae Han.

    @GB, this episode is a tear-jerking episode.

  39. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, the actual first time they bumped into each other was when HY as a kid had run into the police station to try and report that the girl kidnapped from his school, had been taken by a woman, not a man. He had dropped a piece of paper with that info on it after bumping into him. HY had run off and JH had picked up the paper. That was their first contact.

  40. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

JH takes the trouble to observe that HY is lonely and waiting for his father, and that he’s hungry for a home-cooked meal. I think omurice is normally eaten at home, or at least not at a stew restaurant. JH had also met HY’s mum and knew they were poor.

He had got the owner of the stew restaurant to make omurice for HY. JH had told the owner to make the food for JH whenever he came and paid her a lot of money in advance. He took her card and said he’d call her. So sweet of JH.

  41. @GB, oh yes that’s right! They met so early in this drama, I almost forgotten about it.

  42. It’s big. ODFTP paid for child taximan diners.

  43. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Poor young HY, a simple normal life where a family could eat a meal together never came to fruition for him. His family was broken up.

In 2015, adult HY cones to the restaurant. HY finds out from the restaurant owner that JH had been paying for his meals.

So actually there had been more than 1 occasion that JH had been watching HY in the restaurant without his knowledge.

HY walks back realising the he had not been alone all those years because JH had been looking out for him through the restaurant owner.

  44. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Yup, @WE… another link between them that explains why the walkie talkie activated itself in HY’s presence.

Good to see that HY becomes quite a fighter and cannot be bullied.

  45. Hey, he eats an omelette made with 24 eggs here!

  46. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL @WE, omurice is made out of 2-3 eggs and lots of rice with veges and anything one likes in them.

Now HY realises that if does not want to end up powerless, he needs an education. The only option is the Police University. He can’t believe that he’ll end up being a cop since he hates the police LOL.

  47. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

The VERY touching and SIGNIFICANT transmission – This time JH and HY speak to each other after having discovered more about each other’s past.

Because HY knew that JH would die and his father would mourn for him, he tried to tell JH that he wanted him to be happy, to have people by him and to be with those he loved (he thought of dad and SH). That could be more important than solving the case.

Because JH had seen HY as a lonely child, hungry, waiting, wanting to have family around him, he wished him happiness too: “Even if you are poor, you can be with your family under the same roof. And gather together around a warm dinner table.” Have a home where family could sleep together and not be lonely.

HY finally told JH to stop investigating the Injoo case because he could be in danger working on it. JH did not care.

HY tells him that it was JH who first sent the transmissions and had told HY then to convince him back in 1989 when the transmissions would begin again. Then he heard the sound of a gunshot. “You must have been in danger because of the Injoo case.”

JH insisted on seeing the Injoo case to its end. He refused to let the Injoo case turn into a cold case, because someone gave up.

Because of this transmission, there was a chance that JH could survive. Being forewarned is being forearmed.

  48. @GB, about 365: Repeat the year. I can’t fine it on Netflix or VIU but I supposed if the majority wants to re-watch it then I will go along with the majority.

  49. I wonder if it’s a time loop here. It starts with the last call. Then go back to the first ones. If it’s the case, how many loops taximan failed to prevent Jae-Han to die?

  50. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

SH and HY discuss the case and how there was a leak to Kim Sung Bum. There is suspicions that BB Kim Bum Joo was the mole. Pity that BB Kim is the one who’s in charge so they cannot report anything to anyone. 2 cops have died which means he’s keeping a big secret and they are in danger.

Cold case squad decide to investigate the Injoo case, because all the witness testimonies matched but all could have been false. There was another guilty criminal loose. And solving the Injoo case could lead to finding out who killed Ahn because he died while trying to get to the truth about Injoo.

Jung Hun Ki would find out what happened to the evidence. Gye Chul was great at finding people. He locates Kim Hae Sung, the victim of the Injoo case.

  51. @FF, download the drama here:
    https://dramaday.me/365-repeat-the-year/
I don’t know if there are subtitles in this. Else search it on internet.

  52. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF if you don’t mind sites like Dramanice, that’s where I get the dramas. It’s a pretty engrossing mystery and time jump show; however, the mystery is more main part of the plot although it is made possible by the time jump.

  53. @FF, and choose 1080p web-dl.

  54. The looping reminds me of Momento.

  55. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, yes, it only became apparent to me (I was soooo slow) that there must have been a time loop because JH told HY to convince him in the past. So that walkie talkie refused to give up until HY saves JH (I hope and believe). But for HY, he is aware if there are changes in the current state of things, so it might it be that the only loop was that one time at the beginning???

  56. Thanks @GB @WE for the leads.

  57. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF, Momento? Another time loop show?

HY is using his profiler knowledge to find Hae Seung.

  58. @GB, @WE should be able to explain Momento better than me. It is timeline film going backwards.

  59. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

HY is so lucky to have found Hae Seung like this. She is only willing to talk to him because Sun Woo was good to her and not a perpetrator.

  60. @GB, no, Memento is a reverse-time story.
It’s the narrative mode: the movie start now, and each next scene is before now. More and more until when it all begins. Made by the genius Christopher Nolan. But no time loop or time travel.

This narrative mode was copied-pasted in the french movie “Irreversible”.

  61. Girl about to jump from the roof of the school. Guess what: I have a scene like that in W season 2. 🙂

  62. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

Thanks @WE, I had an idea it was by Christopher Nolan.

So we end off with the girl on the roof. Oh, you have a girl on the roof in W Season 2?

  63. @GB, yes. But my scene is better than Signal one. 😀

  64. Ends with a cliffhanger again.

  65. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

    I believe you @WE!

So are you okay for 365: Repeat the Year to be the next one we Rewatch?

  66. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

LOL @FF, I was thinking of calling it a rooftop-hanger!!

  67. @GB, yes that is quite apt too. You have a great sense of humor.

  68. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@FF I like to play with words but mostly just obvious stuff, because I’m oblivious to non-obvious stuff LOL.

  69. @GB, you can read it someday. I don’t give the link now because it’s spoiler (episode 19).
It could be a “roof-hanger”, but it happens at the start of the episode, lol. 🙂

365 seems the best for now. And it’s a short drama.
I’m rewatching it. It makes me think about “Final Destination” more than a time travel story.

  70. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE @FF, okay, then we’ll settle for ‘365’ for the next rewatch! Goodbye both, gonna sleep!

  71. Good night! I want to leave quick too. Tired.

  72. @GB, @WE see you next week.
