Hi @pkml3, thanks for remembering to open this thread!! It’s been a great rewatching experience. Seeing Suzy Bae here and in Genie has me thinking that her acting has improved. She looks like 2 different people. Also she my have lost some roundedness in her face and looks more angular as she ‘ages’. I recall in one interview where the interviewer asked her secret to her great skin and she quipped ‘I’m young’ in a cynical tone LOL. She’s still young but older than before, and good to see that she’s improved.
@GB morning!
I found myself wondering during Genie if Bae Suzy had been so typecast that she hadnt had a chance to improve her range.
Doona was a bit different.
back to my rewatch for the rewatch…
Hi all. Just a quick note to let everyone know I will not be online today. Heading for one of the last of this autumn’s farmers markets. Cheers and see you next week.
Hi @SD, have a good marketing spree!
Three minutes to go!!
An apology to all for not signing in last week. I did not notify you in advance because I did not realize I had missed it until noon. I missed the rewatch walking the dog and drinking coffee. Stayed up way too late watching Genie the night before, and although technically conscious my full faculties took awhile returning the next day.
Hi @GB.
@SD, have a lovely day.
Starting
Hi @IB, it happened to me once. I was watching something else and just forgot!!! But I did turn up late.
OK, it’s time to start NOW!!!
Hi GB and IF.
LOL Mr Choi knows our Jae Chan quite well. True enough, he’s scolding himself for being over-confident.
Hi @WE!
JC looks a real sight with his hair in a mess.
@WE, I wonder what that bit about being scared of the rat was about. Seemed to be one of those meaningless scenes where the couple get into close contact.
Oops! Seems my connection to this blog site has become a bit wonky! Not to worry if I disappear. I’ll turn up somehow!
The student-writer whose organs are harvested is one of the saddest stories in this series. Such a young man about to start his career, killed just like that. Poor father.
Morning, @WE.
@GB The pun? mouse/cramp…a little bit of courage/being stuck in fear?…a little too stretced!
But very cute. So. Did he believe her abt the dream or was that wide smile as he left the park because he knew she had lied to cheer him up?
A nice way to begin what is actually a very nerve-wracking episode!
@GB, in my translated version, it says “ants”. So she think there are ants on the ground.
Then JC says her it’s “ants in my leg”. I don’t know if it exists in english. It’s when you block a leg a too long time and it cuts blood. Then, when blood return it create a feeling to have ants in the leg.
@IB, I wonder about that too. I figure that to begin with he believed her, but when she said more than once to be careful or not to be careless, and some other things, he knew that she’d lied.
@WE Like when we say my skin is crawling…no, I think there is another idiom…is there one for when you feel mildly suspicious,,,
@WE and @IB… thanks! Yes, ants and cramps make more sense.
The trial starts.
The flashback about the elevator door. No way an elevator door could be opened like that. Imagine the number of people dying everywhere.
But I remember to see a real accident about elevator door in a shoping mall. A guy in a weelchair if I remember well.
I love this courtroom scene because of the function of Pro Shin and Lee in the audience, calling the shots (a sports metaphor to celebrate the NBA in Macau).
They have a wrong strategy.
The best they should do now is taking a nap and dreaming. 😀
A dense episode — the various themes — Guilt vs. blame in memory — the explanation of why HJ lied to JC abt recognizing him now as the child in her memory.
Truth vs, useful lies — hiding the truth as Mom does with the ring…
WooTak’s hidden weakness….
Each part of the story moves along together with the others at the same time, how does the writer/director achieve such complexity and make it feel simple?
@WE I’m nodding off myself!
HJ tells JC not to be careless. Hah!
Suzy here looks so young and innocent.
So Snake LYB is out to show that the little boy is an unreliable witness.
I like the part where JC has to engage the child by playing along.
I love the way child-talk emerges into and is included in the public sphere in kdrama in general.
This is perfect, and now we know why it is useful for Robin to poop in the kitchen while the brothers dogsit him.
LOL jaws drop when JC pretends to like Santa Grandpa.
Fortunately he has the drawing of the child. It’s a pretty good drawing for a 5-year old!! The characters look right.
Suspens, will the boy speaks, and even can they trust him?
Is YB actually giving JC a heads-up abt the forensic evidence (outside on the sidewalk after the hearing)?
Is he showing signs of a hidden conscience?
He has been very clear with the despicable Professor that ]he wont tolerate lies in their consultations
@IB you actually remember the baby talk to dog Robin? Well at least JC had practice!!!
Now we have Snake trying to dig for info by provoking JC.
useful lies…lets get brunch
We get the other sad story… the prisoner, Myung, who was falsely indicted because Snake Lee had fabricated evidence.
This episode has parent and child duos. Myung (whom we don’t see) and his son, Dead student victim and his dad, HJ and her mum and Prosecutor Son and her son.
@GB Poop jokes in kdrama deserves a Phd thesis. They are disappearing, unfortunately in my view.
The way that our slow cautious JC behaved with Robin caught my eye. He is so much more fun at home.
Pros Son wants to help JC because he’d allowed the organ harvesting that saved her son.
Pros Lee always gets too emotional or dramatic. Almost kissing JC – Yuck!!
Pros Son does a good job in questioning the doctor.
@IB JC at home is a right-old mess! He has a reason to be embarrassed that HJ saw him at home in her dreams.
Myung’s son is at the trial to watch JC in action.
Lee poops his paper dropshits. 🙂
Almost lost the case nevertheless — the Dad’s outburst helps, and then HJ actually gives JC a boost.
She is a real truthteller.
A seer of the broad perspective.
…..Anyway a real nailbiter of an ending to the case.
Did lying about the dream help? Wouldnt HJ have felt really guilty if it had all gone wrong?
We are shown the colours of the umbrellas a few times over an episode here and there. In the dream where HJ dies, the umbrella is green, just like Snake Lee’s umbrella.
The truth that HJ pouts clarifies the situation not only in this case but also in her own life. The poor father thinks he has caused his son’s death by agreeing to the organ donation.
I really find the way Pro Lee disguises uppity comments as sneezes or throatclearing very funny.
Pros Lee is as usual, too loud LOL.
We get the cut to and from parallel scenes again to hear the explanation of why the Writer Moon can be found guilty. This drama writer touches on systemic issues in how the law can be twisted. She has JC saying: “The law has to clearly and fairly judge who is responsible for the crime. Just because the time of death applies new rules to the case does not mean that the accused is innocent, or else we also say that there is no justice.”
Lee doesn’t disappoint here, as a good antagonist.
What makes him a likable character for the sake of storytelling.
JC tries to remove the simplistic law plaidoiry, replacing it with the logic of cause to effect. A bit obvious, but I don’t know how the law would take that.
“Let justice flows like a river”.
Hey, good line. 😉
@WE, the judgement seems to be left to a single judge, so it all depends on his opinion as well as how he understands the law.
Snake cannot clean his hands since he always knowingly defends criminals using loopholes in the law unjustly.
Lee defeated again.
Mmmmh, let me rewrite the drama.
I would do a case he clearly win on the whole.
It unfair, unjust, but what needs a scary antagonist.
It’s time for HJ’s mum to soften towards JC. Should he call her ‘mother’ or ‘madam’?? LOL.
There is no theme in heaven (is that correct..) except for the ocean, says the poster.
voiceover JC at the ocean, to the effect that we would miss the heart-fluttering surprises if we knew the future.
Not neatly connected…except that we hear the sound of the waves at the poster in the beginning of the ep, and so it feels complete with the visit at the end?
@WE, yes in your writing you need to have a very smart antagonist and scary too, if you like. Always one step ahead of the good guy for the first two-thirds of the series. But he needs to make a mistake sooner or later.
He don’t think Lee Jong Suk is the best actor (even a bit bad on clownish scene) but he has charisma and a kind of transparency making we easely stick with him.
But also, he has a kind of genius about choosing roles. Damn-it, 3 roles in a Park Hye Ryun dramas, followed by W. Sure this guy had an amazing talent about choosing best roles and writers.
Then got a bit wrong about “Dr Stranger” and the drama with the old bum woman and books/writing, I don’t remember the title. Ooh “romance bonus books as love” or something like that.
At 54:00 is one of the scene I like while it’s really short and almost nothing happening. They are in a car going to the beach. And the background song is one of my favorite, with a strong optimistic feeling.
@IB, the subs on the site said “There’s no title in the sky except the sea.” Which did not really make sense to me.
Well going to the sea was a sign that the stressful case was a success. It was a well-deserved break.
LOL JC never knew why his colleagues kept thanking him.
Poor classmate Myung, loses his father.
voiceover #2 …[the gift of an hour at the ocean as] a break from this horrific cycle…
trying to manage reality via dreams, avoiding nightmares but being unable to predict the consequences from that interference…
it is a cycle.
It ends on the couple sitting on the beach. And the director really wanted them to be in the far-right of the screen. Well, I’m ok. 🙂
@WE, 54:00, I liked that short view of children playing as they pass by (in the red car!)
Next week’s episode is better, I feel.
Okay, going to hit the sack! See you next week!!
@GB wow, the subs on viki are so independent of wherever you are watching.. heaven for sky, theme for title.
Yeah, have a good week, see you soon.
@GB, good night!
Bye, @WE
Off to watch ep8-9 of love in the clouds! Such fun!
