Let’s enjoy the show!
Thanks for the early thread @pkml3!!
Yes, I needed a few breaks in this mid to 2nd half of the year. I did manage to rewatch a few episodes up to Ep 5. It’s got such a good set up for all the conflict that will unfold.
I hope you can join us next week!!
Hi Here.
Coming early.
Alas I didn’t have time to make pictures for W2, but last days I reread Ep49 to 54.
As I had already edited and edited again, I was surprised to still find typos or other little errors. And… I even found a potential plot-hole, that someone nitpicking could consider as such. So I changed a dialog line avoiding the case. Damn, it’s crazy that I could still find this kind of mistake. But reading my draft notes again, I saw that I mentionned that into it. Just I didn’t know how to solve that at that time. In real, it was really simple, probably I had a better clear mind this morning.
Gosh, I find out it’s a day of break today.
Ahahahaha… So ridiculous. I go to hide now. 😅
Before we start, I thought it was odd that there is so much recap to begin with, and its only the second episode.
I just went to check and it was also a wed/thurs show so there wasnt even much time or weekend fun in between the two episodes.
Is it there bec there is so much material in ep1 that even at the time there was a felt need to re-present it?
it is certainly convenient for us, who have had 2 weeks!
10AM? EST
Hi @MM! Yes, 10:00! I didnt mean to confuse anyone!
When I watch a drama on tubi, there is often an extended recap at the beginning, which I do not think would have been in the original broadcast. So maybe this is this kind of version?
I am starting now.
Me too.
There there are recap images but no subtitles on viki
I have a husky howling in my ear because the rest of my family has gone out.
Hi MM & IF.
I started too.
It’s resume of previous episode.
We are back at Kevin Bacon which At GB. Wrote about on the what are we watching thread?
@MM. ah-wooooo….
@WE hi!
I think that in a swift way the recap is like most of the previous episode — framed as Dal Po’s memories while he stands there on the podium of the quiz show?
It isnt exact but the transition to the show has the announcer’s voice coming in over the last memories.
My subtitle is out of sync, I needed to find it and put -7.7 seconds.
But now I have to start the episode again (after the resume). I’ll be late.
I dont have subtitles over any of the recaps in this show.
I am good with starting at the subtitle beginnings — in the quiz show. just say when..
Dal Po has a secret, explaining why he finally go to the TV.
Probably the next flashback will give it.
I didn’t remember that Park Shin Hye was so excellent in this drama. But now I remember, it’s the first drama I watched with her, so later, I watched many many dramas just because she was the actress.
PSH is so solid. All the actors who work with her seem self-assured. I would too if she were on my side.
The horrible murderer from I can hear your voice in her imagination
3:22
What is the secret — is there more than one?
She destroy her paper about her carrer with her antics. AHHAH!
Ahahhhh, the dream-scene: the accused is the villain of “I hear your voice”. Meta comedy here.
Gosh, there is even the music of the drama and a scene identical to IHYV.. brillant.
He came on the show/took the test (2x) because —
1. He loves In Ah and doesnt want ChanSoo to confess to her.
2. He loves and hates In Ah because of her Mom, and is conflicted about looking like a dummy in her eyes
3. He was just pretending to be a dummy because of Grandpa’s illness. Now he wants to make something of himself – $$
more causes shading off into plot??
There isn’t a job where not lying is a plus, except… hey hey, journalist of course. Public will have confidence in a journalist with Pinochio syndrome. But it suppose something a bit utopic that medias don’t lie. Ok maybe not too much at this time in Korea?
@WE/MM the courtroom scene! fantasy of In Ah! I was lost there…
Gosh!! Know I remember the actor being the brother. He was young at this time. It’s a tall and strong man, he was an epic warrior in 6 flying dragons.
About the confession from the smart guy in the class, she has ingestion instead of butterflies in her stomach😃
the brother 15.14, the poster? the implication tells us it is the date of..the fire?
Total Zero has now a 100% score at studies. ^^
@the brother actor showed up in Resident Playbook wearing pajamas as a sleepy male nurse and a very good husband of one of the lawyers.
All people say he cheated.
BUt of course… NOT. 🙂
18.10 the vicious rumors begin…and then gossip. Like social media now. A constant refrain over unjust accusations, why does the victim of rumor have to apologize for something he didnt do? Why does he have to prove he is innocent when there is no evidence?
Or when the evidence is fabricated (looking at you, the creep who framed KSH).
Who is voiceovering about the rumor pipe?
He fight the gossip with gossip.
Such a painful situation, relating directly to his past.
PSH could save the day, but choose not… for now.
Oh, the pipe of speculation == I didnt look up the reference, it was so odd that I passed by it, but in the show it is a quote from what, macbeth?
The voiceover in the hallway was Dal Po…
AH. Finally In Ha does it + rejects Chan SOo.
@WE
27
It was her loyalty to Dal Po that she was lying about
or was it a lie that she didnt stand up for him?
A non-verbal lie?
Oh. A dangerous situation. The bike has no breaks.
It’s a big booboo.
Piggy Back in the sunset. Woo!
“My uncle cant become an idiot! He is already getting bullied. He cant be a loner and an idiot too!!!”
lmao.
36
we find out that he pretended to do badly in school because he loved grandpa, and grandpa thinks he is grandpa’s lost disabled son.
@IF: yes. I just watched this scene right now.
Then In Ha finds that Dal Po read looots of books.
Dal Po goes to Seoul to take the test again at the station for round 2. In Ah goes to the library.
(she makes a horrible mess of the books and takes their borrowers slips out of them, it makes me wince, hope she cleaned up afterwards)
I am at 29 minutes and trying to catch up.
Is his motivation to go on the show to prove he is smart enough to have not cheated so she will not get hit 10 times?
Hi there, @IB and @WE, I was exhausted and fell asleep. Hope you had a good rewatch!
Hi too @MM!!
I did a rewatch of this episode myself and keep marveling at how our Writer Park sets up so much ready for the future conflict.
Hi @GB, hope you are feeloing ok!
We are right in the thick of it!!!
@WE got stuck, @MM is thinking, and we are sort of in synch around the half hour mark….
I just finished round two of the quiz show and am mulling over the two different lessons our couple took from the experience.
In Ah has a life-changing revelation that the truth can be ‘revealed’ quickly and clearly by the tv screen. (a delusion imo)
Dal Po has his nausea/anger/hatred of the media confirmed.
Elevator scene. Intense.
Hi @UB, good grief! So with everyone at different parts of the show, where do I even begin!!!
Hi GB, it’s still nice to see you! Thanks for coming.
I think the reporter in the elevator was briefly a part of the memory/recap of the scene at the cliff at the beginning of the episode.
How about I start with them in the ambulance and In Ha thinking that DP is more damaged than he really is?
Or the part DP slices open his literal Piggy Bank to get money to buy a ticket to Seoul?
Oh the reporter (in the present) after the elevator scene remembers the scene with the brother….
Oh @WE, I liked the elevator scene. It gave the producer guy the flashbacks and he had to admit that DP spoke the truth.
the scene with the brother at the cliff…
@IB yes the reporter or producer guy is the same in the flashback and will appear in the future as well. He will remember DP.
“Because I love you”. AHHH, we have now the answer to the mystery. OK, it’s difficult to not love PSH. 😀
Emblematic cult scene with the construction plots. 😉
@IB at least the reporter guy has a smidgeon of guilt over that cliff event with the brother going beserk.
So, the reporter remembers the words of the brother at the scene of mom’s suicide but doesnt realize DalPo is the missing child at that scene.
Later that does happen, but in the meantime…
@WE, so PSH is another actress that you like and follow!!
Yes she was great in this show. Her hiccups were cute.
The revelation of what is being washed into the open at the construction/old factory site prepares us for next week.
A voice-over from the future. 🙂
@GB, you know that I consider her role in MOTA as her best performance ever. And I watched lot of her dramas! 😉
There are so many secrets that this family is unhealthily keeping from each other.
DP is a fake son. Old grandfather knows more than he lets on. IH will have her own secret… her dad too and they have to hide stuff from her dad.
@WE!!! You’re deliberately pulling my leg … not PSH being the greatest in MOTA!!!! Here maybe but not MOTA!!!
I only recall her crying…. a lot… and playing the guitar as the hologram.
The reporter guy is also in the conversation where they are discussing whether to show the scenes of distress that dalpo was showing in the exchanges. I think with the evil lady reporter. Back in the past.
54
Because I like you.
She knows. Didnt she tell him earlier not to have any incorrect thoughts? She knows.
@MM yes, that’s right … when he was a reporter then he was present when the discussion on showing the distressed brother scenes came up. I really hated that female reporter then.
@IB, I feel that IH is only half knowing or not really knowing but trying to deny that she is the one who does not care for DP to like her. Or she wants to appear to not care in front of DP (and her father)
Later we find that she really does not know.
I remember wanting for DP to meet his brother so badly when I first watched this show. If only he had, perhaps the later tragedy would not have happened.
@GB MOTA?
@IB MOTA = Memories of the Alhambara. I liked the show but did not like the role given to PSH. It felt like she was an unnecessary extra in many parts of it. Writer had to make her more relevant by writing her in as a hologram as well.
I first saw PSH in You’re Beautiful during my project to watch all of the Hong Sisters’ shows.
She was brilliant but not showy at all. Solid as an adorable silly rock.
I like the way the ending quietly sets up our apprehension for what is going to happen
til next week.
Yes @IB, I may have first watched PSH in You’re Beautiful as well. I did not specially watch shows just for her, however I seem to have watched more than a coupe of shows with her in them.
@MM this series does have great endings that tell us what to expect next… and yet they are not cliff hangers but just good set up.
The ‘pipe’ quote, which took some AI discussions:
from Henry IV, pt.2, act1, prologue
the charactor Rumour says:
Rumour is a pipe
blown by surmises,
jealousies, conjectures,
and of so easy and plain a stop
that the blunt monster with
uncounted heads,
the still discordant
wavering multitude
can play upon it.
(stop seems to mean ‘fingering’ i.e. easy to play)
@IB, quite an appropriate quotation for the horrors faced by the family. All the damage because of rumours and the mistaken identity caused by a pinocchio who reported that the fireman father was alive.
By rights, not only should DP hate reporters but pinocchios as well … but we see how ironically he ends up exactly where he hated to be.
@GB
The pipe was mentioned in a voiceover by Dal Po when he is actually being persecuted at school, and then it is also part of the 2nd round quiz.
@IB… I should check my subs. I missed mention of the pipe. Also I never read Henry IV.
@MM
it is a stark contrast, dont you think — Dal Po is talking quietly about how he should have left his found-family and his feelings for InAh behind,
and the show shifts quickly to his brother in the rain, revealing that he (the brother) is stalking the real criminals, and then we see the rain on the pile of rubble near the old factory (established by a previous similiarly gloomy scene of two hikers coming upon the factory, being watched by the brother half-hidden in the background).
That is what you were thinking of, that the rain would eventually reveals the father’s remains still at the factory?
Thank you for this quote. For some reason I think there was something about multi-headed Beast in the voiceover or on the quiz show?
@IB, the rain is the extra connection between the living and dead characters of the first unfair tragedy! So apt… it washed away the dirt from the skull and in the rain is revealed the thoughts/motives in the hearts of 2 brothers.
I thought it was a mistranslation and didnt notice it until this watch. I think it is a rare kind of mistranslation.
One of those situations where the translator for the subtitles imagines that the ‘pipe’ will be so familiar in English that it can be used as a signifier.
Of course, truth be told, few of us have seen staged performances of Shakespeare or read a play or two in college.
And Macbeth is full of rumor and metaphorical instruments but ‘pipe’ is not used.
@GB, AH! No! I disagree STRONGLY.
Here the best scene of MOTA. Multicontextual scene:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SefUbzTATzE
And Park Shin Hye is godly in this!!!
You know, you can fight a true fan. 😂
@IF. Yes, I was remembering that the remains will be found.
Not remembering how the story goes though. Made me wonder if he is talking about how challenging his relationship is with the female lead, and here we have the situation that will lead to this all coming out into the open. The discovery of his father’s remains
@WE
Thanks for the scene, its pretty thrilling.
(Although I seem to have forgotten a lot of the show)
@WE, while I like that scene in MOTA (also in the rain!!!) I can’t say it shows off PSH at her best. LOL. She only had to look confused and stay put.
@WE, if you are still here, what “emblematic cult scene with construction plots”? Tell us next week if not?
@MM, still here?
Yes, I’ve been checking back for comments.
Ok, time to organize my Group-Round watching for the Cup.
Bye @GB! Bye @WE!
Talk later, MM!
See you all next week!
@GB,
I dont see the ep3 thread up yet, so I will show up here tomorrow.
Maybe tomorrow is another break in the schedule
Oh I think it was just a format the schedule came up in. It looks like we are on for tomorrow
