I’m so excited! I hope this news is true. You can check time stamp 5.06 in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRK6YvCsQyw
This YT video says that Signal Season 2 will be aired in November in 8 episodes. I hope it’s as good as Season 1. If so I could rewatch it happily and of course have it for one of our future Rewatch Parties!!
Hello! I am here.
Hi IF and GB.
I am so bad at guessing what titles refer to, so I am proud it is easy today — Hansel and Gretel — the slips of shredded paper show where In Ah is hiding at one point.
Well, I don’t know Hansel-Gretel!
Hi @WE @IB, it’s time to START!!!
Hey, it’s time. Gooo!!
Bum Joo finally finds out the difficult truth about his beloved mother.
If hurts rich boy’s mama, it’s declaration of war!
@WE, the Grimm Brothers’ fairytales, the little brother and sister who get abandoned in the woods — oh well it is a sad story and irrelevent except that they leave a trail of bread crumbs behind them.
@WE, BJ’s mother is good at pretending. She acts like she did not know about the Santa whom she put in jail.
I know, things really start opening up from here on out. My dear KYK, so filial, such a puppy. Time to grow up!
Another Grimm Brothers, the wolf is Mom, and Yoo Rae is like trusting Little Red Riding Hood.
@IB, hmmm besides that, Song CO leaves clues that lead IH and Ha Myung to suspect that she’s involved with Bum Joo’s mother.
And they will also encounter a case that looks suspicious and too similar to the gas explosion 13 years earlier. So there’s more than one Hansel and Gretel.
@IB, I was thinking that Yoo Rae /Ruby was the opposite of being able to follow the crumbs of clues… despite evidence to the contrary, she still thinks HM likes her!!!
In “The Art of Sarah”, FL has the same philosophy about fashion, selling very expensive bags. People buy because it’s expensive. She goes even further: she pays someone to create counterfeit, because counterfeit prove they are high standing bags (only high-end items get counterfeits).
@IB, the other thing is that BJ’s mother leaves clues that show she’s out to get money from the over-priced bags, but BJ keeps apologising for the news report on them.
@WE, that’s scary creation of false value for something that’s just normal and which should be normally priced.
@IB, yes, BJ really doesnt communicate well with his mom, or better to say, they dont speak honestly to each other…
If I take Art of Sarah + Fashion King, I learn a lot about fashion in a funny way, while fashion is the last thing that interest me in the world. 😀
And BJ’s Mom deliberately leaves the child (Nam Da Reum yet again, right?) to be alone at Xmas. Very Cruel — I wouldnt have expected her to be SO bad.
@WE, No matter what, from time to time drama writers need to rely on coincidence in order to move the lot along. Such is the case of IH’s finding Song CO’s earring at BJ’s mother’s office.
From this the case of BJ’s mother’s manipulation of the Santa arrest starts to take a backseat to the case of the gas explosions.
Louis Shopaholic?
@GB, I feel like koreans are a bit crazy about all that stuff, around “looking like”, fashion, cosmetics, even plastic surgery. It’s strange, their dramas are deep about emotions and life lessions yet.
The TV news, supposed to say it’s bad to sell expensive bags, just created a kind of streisand effect, making people wanting to buy even more. BG’s mother is so smart about commercial opportunity.
@WE, we just indirectly learn quite a lot from dramas, even about things we would ordinarily never would.
Now we have BJ’s mother lying to her son that she’s surprised by the crowd trying to buy the bag. She had planned it, used the news reporters to do marketing, and prepared for a rise in demand.
Ow! It was a premeditated plan from the very start, from the Santa klaus firing.
BUT OK, she says it! Nothing bad! If the people want to buy, yeah, everything’s good, no one is hurt. (well, maybe the santa klaus guy a little bit though).
@IB, I don’t think that the child actor was Nam Da Reum. He only acted as the younger Ki Ha Myung in this show.
BJ is now feeling betrayed by his mother. She outright lied to him and can’t see that she did anything wrong by manipulating the pricing and the news reporters.
@WE, manipulating prices to play on the weakness of children is a grey to black area. I’d say it’s wrong. She does not see that she did anything wrong… that’s what is wrong with her. She justifies what she does ruthlessly.
We see it again with how she uses Song CO to cover up something else.
Now we have a bored Ahn Chan Soo wanting to give news to his reporter friends.
NDR, oh right, my mistake, that would have been odd, right.
@IB, now we come to the household butane gas explosion report through Ahn Chan Soo… and an intro to the next great cover up by BJ’s mother.
Also we find out that Chan Soo has 3 children!!!
When we think IH’s mother is a villain…
We get a greater villain! BG’s mother. 🙂
Even small cases can become big ones?
Ahn Chan Soo as a family man. All are properly impressed!
@WE, this is an interesting reversal of the common bad guy dads… bad gal mums!!!
@GB, yeah, it’s what should do any villain: they did nothing wrong! Never their fault. They are almost lucifer on earth, but humans choose their own sins. THEIR decision, not the one of the Tempter.
@IB, Yoo Rae gets herself in between HM and IH but she still cannot see how their connection cuts her out… she insists that HM likes her just because BJ had given her that false news.
Now BJ’s mother is being given the cold shoulder by her precious son… and looks upon HM as someone to keep an eye on.
@WE, good analogy about the Tempter… BJ’s mother was the tempter and so absolves herself from all responsibility for the choices made by the buyers.
We now have Grandpa deciding to make Jae Myung his family as well… HM finds out that his chance to visit his brother has been taken by someone else.
Ji Yi: I forgot her, she was in the first episodes I think, at school. So she’s cop wife now. He has a happy family now. (I don’t remember if this girl was a little bad then, I suppose?)
She puts (without knowing) very high pressure, hey both of you.. still not married? What are you waiting to have child? hurry up, guys!!
The cool reporter puts a face on the tip room bustle.
@WE, yes Ji Hee was in school with Dal Po and she was not all that nice towards IH I think. She was jealous of Chan Soo’s originally liking IH when they were in school.
at the scene of the explosion, great excitement — camerasees Ha Myeong at the back as witness to what we thought was exciting but now seems ominous.
Woo! Rich boy’s balls are eventually growing for good, and he realizes that his mother isn’t his future wife, putting her hand away and investigate about her as a journalist!! (sorry, but I like trashy lines) 😀
@IB the meeting with Song CO telling the Captain to pretend that she’s not there is such a joke. But not a funny joke. She still acts like she’s in control and critical of the Captain’s way of assigning work.
Good storytelling, second lead becomes a man. Now about Yoo Rae, I rewally admire her comical persistence but when will she wise up?
@GB, YES! It was this little love triangle. It’s quite nice to see the girl gets the boy she want. We know she really wanted him. He’s in good hands!
@GB, we know she has met with the wolf-Mom. And now she pushes for the human interest angle, to feed the public taste for senation and cruelty.
I honestly cant beklieve the gall of reporter Song! She will try the same tactic again! Talk about balls, @WE.
@WE Wait until you get to time stamp 44:00 or thereabouts… BJ is out after his own mum.
We find that BJ’s mother uses IH’s mum to create a false ‘villain’ to hide what she’s been doing. But I cannot remember why she’s tied to illegal substances at factories.
@GB, I’m at 40 currently…
@IB it’s not about just feeding the public but creating a false villain to hide the real one. BJ’s mum does not care that she ruins another person’s life as long as she gets away with whatever she’s doing that keeps causing gas explosions.
@IB, the Scapegoat this time is poor Ahn Chan Soo who will get suspended etc since the blame falls on him for not doing more about the small gas explosion before the big one.
Yoo-Rae found the good way to reassure herself “they did nothing during 10 years, so they won’t start now”. It’s like she’s FL of shinning inheritance seeing that SFL did nothing during 10 years to get ML. So cruel to put her in this corner! 😀
I’m starting 44, two mother scenes now. BG’s mother is involved in some way into the fire accident. We don’t know what yet, but we can feel it has obvious.
I stop pause, and resume now to watch the scene.
@IB, it’s so irritating… Song CO is using the same convoluted justification… instead of finding proof of what was wrong she asks if there’s proof that Chan Soo was not responsible. She’s really hateful… all done at the bidding of BJ’s mum… and the irony is that she’s saying this to Bum Joo himself, and he does not know his mum is involved!
Too much delicious irony.
Is it me or does this episode seem about ten minutes shorter?
Really intense action in this last 15 mins though.
Cool reporter and Ha Myeong carry half the episode as a nice pair, and Beom Jo, his Wolfy-Mom and bad reporter Song carry the plot forward.
And really really great ending, almost all parties present (no Yoo Rae or W-mom), the music is triumphant!
In the station lobby, so big it is almost a public space.
Oh Shit. Chan-Soo is now victim of the same situation than 13 years ago. And of course, righ t in the episode we learn he’s a family man! Also, it makes the case personal, as he’s friend of DP !!!
@IB I like the music for when the scenes are tense and the triumphant music when HM challenges Song CO with a declaration that he’d find evidence to prove his friend was not responsible for the explosion. The fact that instead of looking for the ones who left combustible materials in the factory, they blame a lone policeman who was just called in to check a small fire, should have alerted a whole bunch of people about a cover up. But then there’d be no story about media manipulation!
Yes @GB, the way that Reporter Song argues defensively is really pernicious and clever. But also I can see that she is almost begging the young reporters to find the truth. Since she is being forced to commit the same criminally irresponsible act that she perpetrated 13 years ago.
We are starting to suspect that BJ’s Mom has some way to black mail Reporter Song into it, something that Reporter Song did wrong 13 years ago.
This time, though, someone else, some other chaebol, is responsible for the illegal dumping which caused the fire. W-Mom passes a piece of paper across the table to Reporter Song, before the scene of the meeting where Song pushes the human interest angle, or was it afterwards?
@WE, yes, Writer has given us a parallel crime so that we can see how the first crime was committed. The same villains and the same modus operandi.
I like her use of flashbacks to let us know what happened in the past instead of exposition.
BTW, you saw what I wrote about Signal 2 coming out in Nov?
@WE where are you now?
Yes, @GB. I could feel your excitement. It might work out perfectly. Ill have to look up the writer and director again.
@IB @WE… Signal 2 – it’s still only rumoured!!! No date set yet. But we hope they will really air it in November.

Here’s a bit more news.
I just realized — W_Mom tells Reporter Song that no connection to the fire 13 years ago must come to light.
But in the same breath she asks R-Song to cover up this new explosion for a friend using the exact same method?
Duh.
Villains are always tripping themselves up — they always seem almost to want to be caught!
@GB, yea yay, I saw your first post about signal!
I’ve to go now. See you soon!!
@IB, yes that’s true. No change in method. It becomes obvious to the cool reporter and others that the similarity between gas explosion cases is uncanny!
Bye @WE and @IB!
Anyway, there, right there, is the topicality which always gives these shows their passion. Surely illegal dumping of toxic and dangerous trash was an issue at the time or shortly before the show was written.
All the new rom-com dramas lack heart because they dont possess the energy that any provocative issue people actually care deeply about gives to a show.
Toxic waste dumps are an enormous issue in other parts of SouthEast Asia. But the particular way that the SK writers had of wrangling real thought into wildly fluffy shows to ground them, well that talent is missing. Or is it that taste for drama?
Bye @WE abd @GB! Next time!
@IF.. aaaaand yes… so right… I’ve a problem with recent dramas (well, MANY problems, not just lack of heart). One of them is how they don’t take their own story seriously, putting comedy at the worst time, like if nothing matters. Even in dramas I really liked like “Undercover High School”, it was really good drama, but when you go into the more serious and last parts, grotesque comedy enters. So, nothing was dramatic? We can’t trust anything? We just watch empty air? Pshhhit.
I just drop Fide bona killer because of that, end of episode 3. (I wanted to watch because there was articles here about this drama). There were good comedy scenes before (ok about them, enjoyable). But there, the whole situation was serious… but… nope… turned into a stupid comedy scene, characters acting like their life doesn’t matter… waiting for a woman to wake up (when she’s dead drunk and anyway couldn’t and anyways, even if she could, couldn’t fight)… BUT no, instead, we get an over-the-top “badass girl” moment, really absurd, slapping opponents with pork ribbons… Gosh. She’s even NOT supposed to be a full fighter, just a sniper, but anyway she beats them all. And then the light came in my mind: ok, so it will be this kind of without-emotion kind of badass girl until the end? I check few reviews and… that’s it! I can’t even say the writer is bad, she did good dramas in the past. It’s so depressing.
I had to drop countless of dramas like that, I won’t make the list. I should have drop “teach me a lesson” too, but didn’t, should have DAMNIT. And I was ranting like crazy about bad dramas like “My demon”? Good God, it’s nice that I don’t have to comment on kdramas of today. Think about it, endless ranting, every time I talk is like I empty a garbage can full of trash in your face?!! AHahahhah!!!
Maybe its just me but I like poems and fiction and dramas to possess homes — languages, houses, cities and please please some recognizable politics. To come from someplace real. Tell me about the dry eucalyptus leaves rustling in the canyons in the hills of hollywood (Dashiell Hammet, no maybe Raymond Chandler..) and I am seated.
Teach me a Lesson was the same episode each time, but I kept going back because I am a retired teacher and the revenge fantasy was too satisfying. I thought it was so popular because all over the world there are a lot of angry retired teachers!
anyway, rant on and prosper! Talk next week.
@IF, I stopped to rant over time, I don’t remember exactly when was the last time I was grumpy. Even about “my demon”, this wasn’t a big rant, mostly listing the problems the drama have. What made me rant in the first place was dramas overhyped, and making me waste time watching them.
