The thread is now open. Let the theories begin! gifs from liveasbutterflies’ tumblr source: liveasbutterflies’ tumblr When I watched this scene, my first reaction was to applaud the perfect casting. I don’t mind the “noona romance” angle. Look: What I dislike about noona romances in kdramas is that the female lead is invariably portrayed as […]

The thread is now open. When I see this, source: koreandragon’s tumblr I can’t help remembering that the actress Kim GoEun once dated this old man, Shin HaKyun, in 2016-2017 while filming “Goblin” with Gong Yoo. source: swallowedabug’s tumgir I don’t do “ships” because an actress’ taste in lovers in real life may be as […]
Alchemy of Souls: Ep 6 On Cheating and “Just Anyone”
One interesting word I learned from the Hong Sisters’ drama, “Warm and Cozy” (2015) is “balam” (바람) or “wind.” When used in the idiom “balampida” (바람피다), it acquires the meaning “to cheat on.” The leap from “wind” to “cheating” isn’t hard to imagine when I think of a cheater as a fickle individual, tossing his/her […]

Alchemy of Souls: Eps 5 & 6 On Naksu’s Soul
A slew of information dumped all at once often causes overload and confusion. I think a review of the salient points are in order. However, this isn’t intended to be an “answer key.” You’re free to come up with your theories. 🙂 1. Naksu’s constellation I think Episode 5’s opening scene should be viewed in […]
Happy Fourth of July!
I hope you’re enjoying your family and friends, delicious food, great weather and good health today. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Some fun facts about July 4th gathered from parade.com. 1.. The Declaration of Independence was not signed on July 4, 1776. That’s actually the day it was formally adopted by the Continental Congress, but it wasn’t signed by […]

Alchemy of Souls: Ep 3 On Roadblocks
While the names and faces left me perplexed in Eps 1 & 2, the pacing of the story made my head spin in Ep 3. If we are to view this Kdrama as Uk’s transformation into a mage, then the progress is clearly marked. Episode 1: Uk finds a master Naksu/MuDeok. Episode 2: Uk opens […]
Alchemy of Souls: Ep 4 On Vigor
There’s a time crunch so I’ll keep this short. 1. The mystery mage A mysterious mage suddenly appears in the Jinwoyon. He calmly dispatches the female guards at the Jin’s manor by temporarily incapacitating them. He tells the unconscious guards, “Stay down for a moment.” This is a good sign. It means that he isn’t […]

The thread is open. I’m still working on my Ep 5 review. There’s a delay because it isn’t one of my “Quick Takes.” I’m planning on explaining the flow of the story as I understand it.
