Love O2O: Episode 26 Highlights

This episode is what I call the “transitional”  period. Nothing new is revealed about the characters that we didn’t know. We’ve analyzed the characters to bits and I’ve tried to show that the characters, especially Nai and Weiwei, have been consistent throughout.

1. Weiwei becomes den mother.

Nai’s demo presentation is rescheduled to September 1, and his company has now only two weeks to finish the “optimization” of the game. One of the designers said that, in terms of images and content, their game is already good enough to beat the other competition. Their only issue is the memory consumption which they are capable of resolving if they weren’t pressed for time.  (Thanks, Ashuang the traitor, for telling their competitor about this weakness in the game design!)

Yugong suggests that they simply explain the situation, since it isn’t their fault that they’re rushed to finish the demo in half the time originally stipulated. However, Nai correctly points out that “policymakers don’t care for explanations. Only the final results matter.”

Thus, he’s not giving up on the optimization.

Yugong complains to Weiwei about Nai. “The point is that your hubby, my classmate, Xiao Nai, is a pervert.”

lol! I would be shocked too if I were Weiwei and I heard Nai being described as a “pervert.”

The right word is MASOCHIST, not pervert. lol. It means he enjoys taking on a task or work that’s actually tough and painful to do when an easier alternative was available.

Yugong also calls Nai insane. But before he can pile on more insults, Nai approaches them and Yugong flees the scene as usual.

Nai has come to ask Weiwei to bring him some clothes from his apartment.

Nai: Both business and casual outfits. And toiletries.
WW: So…you’re going to live in the office?
Nai: Yes. (then leaning in to tease her) Just as you wished, I’m going to start living in the office.

Hmmm… if I remember correctly, HE was the one who offered to sleep on the floor of his office!! To me, he should be proud that he’s a man of his word. He kept his promise to sleep in his office.

She returns later with his pillow and blanket, and Weiwei has the whole apartment to herself.

Awww…how cute are their couple towels! Remember when she first used Nai’s bathroom on that day she got soaked to the skin by rain? She looked at his towel and toiletries and became giddy for no good reason? I commented on it.

Now, I think I know what she was thinking back then. I bet she was imagining this scene when their towels are hanging up together. lol.

Now, yippee! Her dreams have come true! lol.

But the apartment feels curiously empty without Nai. She thinks, “Everyone is so busy, but I can’t do anything to help.”

The following day, she’s back at work distributing their lunch deliveries. She notices the team sleeping at their desks so she offers a suggestion to Nai.

WW: I’ll just take up five minutes of your time. I need to discuss something with you.
Nai: Sure.

WW: Even though it’s summer, you can’t treat them like this.
Nai: Treat them how?
WW: Look.

WW: Those who are sleeping with their heads on the desks will get stiff necks. And those sleeping on chairs either slide off or their blankets fall off. What if they catch a cold? I know that we’re in a state fo emergency so no one can affor to waste time commuting in Beijing. But this can’t go on for that long either.
Nai: (nodding) What do you suggest?
WW: I’m thinking about getting some blankets and mattresses for everyone to sleep on. After all, it’s important to sleep well.
Nai: I haven’t been thoughtful. I’ll let you take care of this.
WW: No problem. It’s the least I could do.
Nai: Your food software for food delivery is very useful. (proudly) It saved everyone lots of time and energy.
WW: That was an easy task. So…as for the budget?

Nai gives her his wallet.

WW: Why are you giving me your wallet?
Nai: You’re in charge of it now. Go ahead.

Yes! Music to a girl’s ears! “You’re in charge of my wallet.”

Everyone’s happy with their mattresses, and their sleeping arrangements. Yugong pays her a compliment. He calls her a kind and diligent snail-shelled girl from the folktales. (Is this a compliment?? to be called a “snail”?).

Here’s the link to the folktale if anybody’s interested: Snail Girl

But Yugong is later upset when he finds out all snorers like him are segregated from the rest. Yugong really behaves like a crotchety old man.

Nai asks her where’s his bed at.

And Weiwei guiltily points at the conference table which obviously has no privacy and in the middle of activity. Mozarta thinks it’s funny but Weiwei says she drew lots for the bed assignments.

He says, “It’s fair and just. I sleep the least. It’s better for me to sleep there.” He probably doesn’t want Weiwei accused of favoritism or nepotism (because she’s his “wife.” lol)

Knowing Nai, if he’s really annoyed, he’ll remember it. In Episode 29, during company dinner to celebrate their successful demo, Nai’s getting even with Mozarta for comparing him to a “sandstorm” because sandstorms are “unforgiving.”  Weiwei’s especially attentive to him about the food, too. I wonder if she’s worried that he’ll remember that she made him sleep in the worst spot possible. lol.

She tells them that she can assist them until the beginning of her new semester on September 1. Alone with Nai and Mozarta, the latter suggests that she stays on as an intern when school starts.

MZ: You can study and work at the same tie for some pocket money.
WW: (glancing at Nai then answering MZ) I don’t need any wages. Just cover all my meals.
Nai: Put her wages on my account then.
MZ: You win, Third brother.

lol. This is the same arrangement as Mozarta and KO. lol. Nai’s very perceptive. He knew from the start about KO favoring Mozarta.

Once Mozarta is gone, Nai thanks her.

And I like this scene because it reaffirms what I’ve been saying that each one has a role to do in a partnership.  The contribution of the TV-version of Weiwei to the company is no less significant and vital than the movie-version of Weiwei because her assistance isn’t technical support or isn’t “brainy” enough. As a matter of fact, I’d argue that any computer programmer in Nai’s company can code fine but none of them has the emotional perception and interpersonal skill of Weiwei. She blunts and smooths the rough edges of the guys.

2. Reconciliation with Erxi

The funny thing when Weiwei bought mattress for everyone is that she forgot about herself. (lol. Of course, it wouldn’t do to have a girl sleeping with the guys, right? rolling my eyes). So while waiting for Nai to finish work, she falls asleep at her desk.

Nai notices this and gets up to cover her with his blanket.

There must be something about his blankets that signal people to contact Weiwei while she’s sleeping because just like last time when Shaoxiang texted Weiwei, he sees an incoming call from Erxi and he takes the call.

EZ: Hello, Weiwei? Are you busy?
Nai: This is Xiao Nai speaking. Weiwei is sleeping.
EZ: Huh? She’s sleeping? With you?

Her face is classic.

EZ: No, no… what I meant was… (she realized that she was asking a personal question.)
Nai: She’s here at my company. She got tired from working overtime so she fell asleep. I’ll get her to call you back when she wakes up.

EZ: Okay. Don’t wake her up.
Nai: You called. That will make her very happy.
EZ: Mmm.

He writes a note on a sticky and puts the sticky on her cheek. Duh! That wakes her up. I think he’s playing around with her.

Weiwei’s euphoric to hear that the prodigal son…errr… best friend is back. Nai predicts however, “It sounds like my girlfriend would soon be moving out of my apartment.”

She asks to borrow his bike and he says, “It’s in my drawer. Go and get it yourself.” lol. He’s not going to make it easier for her.

He does tell her that he’ll let her take a half day. She thanks him, tells him that dinner’s already ordered for the boys, thanks him for the blanket and bounces out of there.

Nai finds her excitement and her quick escape cute.

3. The Interrogation

EZ: I haven’t interrogated you yet.
WW: You really moved into Dashen’s apartment? Did something that should happen already happened?

Weiwei kicks her. That’s funny. She didn’t kick Erxi when Erxi accused her of doing imaginary offensive things (like cheating and stealing Cao) but she kicks Erxi for accusing her of imaginary thrilling things (like bedroom scenes with Nai).

EZ: What if you lose yourself to him? Then it will be all my fault.
WW: Dashen is a gentleman, okay?
EZ: I don’t believe that. A guy who can steal the heart of a department beauty in three minutes can’t be much of a gentleman. Come clean now. Did you guys kiss already?
WW: Why did you get so close to me? (meaning, “why are you in my personal space?”)
EZ: Tell me!
WW: Anyway, we haven’t since I moved in with him.
EZ: So you did before then. But why haven’t you kissed after you moved in? Could it be that Dashen was worried that he might take a step too far?

Wellll… yes, he’s worried that he might lose his self-control and he’s also worried that Weiwei’s a frog. She’s like a frog that’s jumps out when dropped in boiling water. She scares off easily.

4. Staying at Nai’s place

Erxi wants Weiwei to move back to Xiaoling’s apartment. She jokes that she’s messed up the place without Weiwei (but I felt like thumping here for her shamelessness.) plus it isn’t good for her to stay too long at Dashen’s place anyway. Weiwei tells her that she’ll inform Nai. — she probably thought that he would let her go easily just like earlier.

Nai is in the middle of a serious discussion with KO when he receives a text from Weiwei. Text: I’m planning on moving back to Xiaoling’s place. You’re busy you don’t need to respond.

Immediately, Nai halts his discussion with KO saying he had to make a call. He walks out of the room. He spots the guys all grouped together so he probably thinks it’s safe to Weiwei right there. I’m sure he’s in a hurry to contact Weiwei before she flies the coop.

Nai: You’re moving out?
WW: Yes. I can’t keep staying at your place.
Nai: (indignant) What do you take my place for? You just come and go as you please? Move back when school starts.

lol. He doesn’t see Mozarta at the water fountain behind him.

Mozarta: Who’s that? Who’s moving back when school starts?
Nai: Someone you don’t know.

Weiwei tells Xiaoling that she has to stay at Nai to guard the calligraphy and paintings.

I think it’s funny that Nai’s outraged at her departure like it’s a moral affront to him. “How dare you treat me my home like a hotel!” sounds pretty much like “How can you discard me like this? You no longer need me so you leave me??!!”  Oh, the drama!

  1. I love that conversation where Nai asks her to get clothes and toiletries for him. “Wifey” just says yes, sure!. 😍

Yes! Music to a girl’s ears! “You’re in charge of my wallet.”

    True indeed! 😃

It gave me goosebumps when Nai asked WeiWei where is his bed? Gutter mind much! 😁

So really she was being paid as an intern right but she just want meals instead. So how come she said in later episodes that she doesn’t get paid? Her wages is with Nai! 😃

Also, her part in the company is keeping the boys all functioning well in terms of nourishing them with food and being comfortable while being stressed due to the time limit. That is a big part and part of the whole 100%. 🙂

I felt he knew how much she wants to reconcile with Erxi so that’s why he woke her up with a sticky note! hehehe

Technically there’s a lot of stuff that WeiWei borrowed from Nai. His bike, his shirt, his slippers, his towel, his money, his blanket, his bed. 🤣

Ohhh we’re only 4 episodes away from finish, am I still going to see his smile like that gif? 😢

Erxi, Nai has a lot of self control because WeiWei enrolled him in Voluntary Self Control Degree. LOL!

Weiwei tells Xiaoling that she has to stay at Nai to guard the calligraphy and paintings.

Aha! She used the same excuse as Nai! 🤣

  2. Ah so that’s what Yugong meant when he said WeiWei is a kind and diligent snail shelled girl from the folklore. Thanks for that link. 🙂

  3. You’re welcome. 🙂

Just got back from a “watch-party.” We were watching college basketball championship. Wahoowa! #UVA

Heading to bed now. Will reply to other comments later. Good night!

  4. Good night! 🙂
