Just Bitching: Only in Kdramas…

Hand shielding her face from sunlight = romance

Context: He gets on the bus and sees the sleeping girl. He doesn’t know her because he’s saying under his breath, “She’s in our grade but I’ve never seen her before. Maybe she’s a transfer student?”

lol.

Hand-shielding is a sweet gesture on kdramas, but if this happened to me in real life, and I woke up with a strange hand hovering about my face, my first thought would be abduction, not romance.

I’m checking out this new kdrama, Longing Heart. It’s a time travel romance, adapted from a web cartoon, starring Lee Jung-Shin, that tall guy from CNBlue, and some actress. Don’t know if I’ll drop or watch it, but I’m leaning towards a drop-box.

Anybody else is watching it? Has anybody seen the web-cartoon? I want to know the ending first. lol.

Updated: the guy sees that the girl has ripped her skirt, but instead of mentioning it to her casually like normal people do, he drops his school bag onto her shoulder (to cover the tear) and tells her to carry his bag as payment for a good deed that he’s just shown her. Of course, she’s like: what the heck is this?

Sighhhh… I can already tell that this is going to be one long convoluted story.

  1. Let’s find logic or reason for this gesture.. I’m gonna throw my theory..

Well you know.. we, Asians, are crazy about fair, smooth, preserve the youthfulness, and keep it free to minimum wrinkle skin. And for us, sunlight/rays is bad, #1 enemy of our skin. So hand shielding face from sunlight is considered act of kindness. Sunlight make us frown, and frowning too often would add wrinkle to eyes area, forehead. So hero shield heroine/elders from sunlight —> preventing from new wrinkle —> caring —> romantic.. hahaha

Me and my crazy logic 🤣

  2. You’re probably right.

Sometimes the milky white skin of actresses and actors in kdramas startles me. Over here when you’re that white-skinned, especially in the winter months, it means you aren’t chic enough to go to Bahamas in December and acquire a tan. My brother moved to California to have that healthy sun glow year-round instead of looking like a vampire all the time.

Kidding aside, fair people have a higher risk of getting skin cancer. It’s a pain really that any time we get a spot or patch of unusual discoloration, we need to have it checked out for skin cancer.
