Just Bitching: MsLee’s Radio Romance Recommendation

My good friend MsLee wrote this on her blog:

Plot is simple and nothing much was given away. Definitely romance will bloom as these two individuals meet and work together. With Yoon Doo Joon in it I want to see this drama. I like Kim So Hyun and even if I prefer her to work with someone a little younger, I know she can adjust, just like when she worked with Bong Pal (Ok Taec Yeon). 😜

With all the Sturm und Drang of Washington politics, yes, I do need a simple plot right now. I originally intended to give this kdrama, 6 episodes to grow on me. However, I found myself fast-forwarding through the first two episodes. The lead female is not somebody I can cotton to … at the moment. For one, her messy hair is so unprofessional that if I were her boss, I’d pay for her to go my hair salon. She couldn’t meet clients looking like she had a fight a tree, and she ended up with this giant bird nest on her head. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.

But I’m sure her make-over is going to be part of the plot.

For another, I can’t tell if she wants to become a writer or a cocktail waitress.

Look: one of my good friends supported herself through grad school working at this xxx restaurant famous for waitresses with big chests. I understand that you do what you gotta do.

However, the reason I was confused about the first two episodes was that the scene where she poured drinks was glamorized (that is, staged and filmed) to look so much more fun than her actual DREAM JOB of working behind a dreary radio booth. In comparison to when she was pouring soju bombs, the scenes where she was actually AT WORK in the radio station looked boring and lifeless. There was no build-up, no fancy screenshots, no surge in adrenaline in watching her work at the radio station, that I can’t help but wonder WHY on earth does she want that drab life.

I’m already in Episode 3, and I still have yet to feel the “magic” of a job in the radio industry.

This goes for the action scenes of Yoon Doo-Joon. There’s been so much camera time given to his job as a top-rated film star. Slow motion, fancy martial skills, lovely costume, excellent cinematography. But again, what has this got to do with working on the radio?? I think director had set him up to fail miserably because now, after the soju-bombs scnens, how he going to re-invent work in a radio station as something MORE energetic and fascinating as an actor’s life? The director had set up the bar for visuals so high for the NON-radio scenes. Don’t tell me he’s going to focus on Yoon Doo-Joon’s chiseled face and masculine throat, and do 360 degree camera action in radio booth, too? Grrrr…

Lastly, the story involves — get this! — one blind mother and one mean stepmother. Ugh! I can already tell that I’m going to get a mother-of-all-headaches just watching this show.

But I will give it a chance because as Ms.Lee said, I too like Yoon Doo-Joon and Kim So-Hyun to succeed.

  1. Haven’t started watching this one. Tell the truth the hair of KSH also made me hesitate😂😂😂 i think staff tryin to make her older. I really wish she will choose dramas according / preferably close to her age. There’s no rush.

Will resume drama watching this week. 😀

  2. Her hair ruins my appetite. I can only watch the show after dinner.

The first two episodes were stinkers. Could have tightened plot more.

  3. Same.. KSH’s hair style here is major turn off.. hahaha.. my cousin name her hairstyle “wooly lamb hairstyle” 😂

  4. Are you watching this? I don’t get it. Have they met before or not? How come she has no memory of him whatsoever? ohpleaselordno!! I hope she doesn’t have retrograde amnesia.

  5. I’m not. I just watch some clips, they are not tempting and interesting enough to pique my interest..

  6. I watched the latest episode Ep 6 but skipped Ep 5. I had no problems following the plot. That tells me that the storyline is banal.

However, I am from that generation when radio was one of the few media options available. Nowadays we have podcasts!

I’m waiting for the screenwriter(s) to reveal why listening to radio isn’t just about nostalgia.
