Poem a Day: Oli’s Perspective

This is the post from Oli. I’ll put my response here.

I hope I didn’t seem like not myself before 🙂 Thanks for the warning though!

I’m just a bit afraid of what the writers can do to MinHo’s character to fit Dr Ye + BoYoung as end game if that’s the path they’re going. I hate characters that are left in the dark, they seem pathetic to me. Like the way MinHo was happy after NamWoo told him BoYoung is concerned about him, thinking she might like him..

It’s telling that the writer had to physically get MinHo out of the way for Dr Ye+BoYoung to be a thing (motorcycle + day off work) otherwise he’s pretty perceptive, I’m sure he would have done something.

What I liked about episode 12 is that DefCon had the same curve with MinHo as I did: finding his “I’m kidding” annoying then seeing a kinder side of him.

1st: “I have a feeling it won’t turn up good. Who’d like a guy like him who jokes around all the time?” – and he surely did seem annoying the first episodes
then (after MinHo buys him food – I was wrong assuming he was acting rich): “He might be a jokester, but he’s a nice kid. He knows how to show kindness. I don’t think he’s that bad”

Are the writers gonna give a backstory to the guy? Why he rejected BoYoung like that? If Dr. Ye & BoYoung are end game they might not care anymore. But somehow we’ve seen 2 couple breakups from the past that were given a deeper explanation than what the surface seemed to say: Dr. Kim & her husband and in ep 12 NamWoo and that girl. They can’t possibly do that to secondary characters without it being relevant to the main leads. No?

Then, I wonder if this thing that DefCon said means something:
“If you do a sloppy job and get rejected, it could be awkward forever.”
Is this gonna make MinHo avoid a confession? Now I’m trying to look for clues that forsee MinHo’s doom. I don’t know anymore..

**********************************

What strikes me about this DefCon scene was that, although MinHo was unfairly treated by the writer in that whole @#$@# motorcycle accident/intervention, the writer still portrays MinHo as a good guy.

Like this conversation. Defcon was going to stay with them.

JY: Are you sure you’re okay with this? You’ll be together all day long.
MH: What if I did not? You said he was discharged today, but his house is leaking big time. He’s in a tight situation, so what else can I do? I’ll deal with it. (Meaning, he’ll bear it.)

And MH did. JY left them together and read comics, while pretending to study. He’s become pretty cool about dealing with unforeseen circumstances.

Much better than Ye who overreacted when Dr. Park accidentally landed on BoYoung.

I think the YeLiners would find this scene swoon-worthy. He’s da MAN, protecting his girl!  But comedy aside, this display of extreme anger over something trivial is a red flag to me.  It makes me wonder whether he had trouble managing his temper when he wasn’t doing a “mind control.”

Also, that “mind control” thing? It tells me that he either lacks self-awareness or simply thinks too highly of himself. After he shouted at Dr. Park, for instance, he didn’t notice anything wrong about his outburst. It was BoYoung who gave him eye signals and made him realized something was wrong.

Also, consider how MinHo treated Defcon to Chinese food. He ordered a lot of food, and joked that DefCon was going to pay for it. But before Defcon blew a gasket, he said that he was only kidding. “I was raised to treat my guests when I’m in my own home. And you must be tired from being hospitalized. Please lots and get better.”

In contrast, Ye had been stingy with his money. Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t this the first time he treated out his colleague? The Chief was always the one buying them dinner. And Boyoung also treated them out. But Ye who must have a higher salary than either Chief or BoYoung, hadn’t treat the team out to a single dinner.

No wonder they were all suspicious of his motives when he offered to buy drinks for them.

He was behaving so much unlike himself.

Edited to add this: I’m still waiting to hear from that old grandma with the bad knee. I had hoped that Ye arranged the procedure for the poor grandma without much fanfare. But I guess not. 🤷‍♀️

Which brings me to do: are you really kind, when you’re only kind to people you like?

Re. the break-ups. You’re right! Break-ups have REAL reason for them that was kept hidden In both cases, in Dr. Kim’s divorce and NamWon’s break-up, there was a sense of not wanting to be a burden to the loved one.  lol. Frankly speaking, it entered my mind that this could foreshadow the break-up with BoYoung and Ye. lol.

As for the proposal of MinHo, I wish that he wouldn’t follow DefCon’s advice. Part of me anticipate mortification for myself, and devastation for MinHo when he realizes that BoYoung is already in a relationship. But he needs to propose and get it over and done with. He can only move forward with his life, knowing that he tried his best.

Lastly, I don’t know if I wrote this in a comment somewhere. But if BoYoung and Ye are indeed the endgame, at least we had these four episodes to get used to it. 🙂

One Comment On “Poem a Day: Oli’s Perspective”

  1. “are you really kind, when you’re only kind to people you like” No. Though to be fair, Dr Ye is not only nice to the people he likes/loves but with the people that follow his righteous ways. He can be ruthless with you if you say/do something wrong. But that’s also a problem. It’s easy to be nice with people that are good. Kindness shows more with how you behave with people that do wrong/make mistakes. People or situations that are not convenient.
I always use this to explain how certain people are still bad even if they are ok/nice with the people/things they love. Like war mongers being probably kind to their kids. Like SeJoo being perfect to SooJi (though even with her the kinder thing FOR HER might have been not to help her in her stupid plans) while ShinHyun was kind to strangers.
