Note to guys: Unless you’re trolling, don’t ever kneel in front of a girl without bearing an engagement ring.

Here’s an explanation from Cosmopolitan:

For many people, proposals are supposed to be the kind of romantic whirlwind you’ve only ever previously experienced while reading fairytales. The love of your life gets down on one knee, triggering you to plummet into some kind of alternate universe where you’re surrounded by rose petals, dimly-lit candles, heart-shaped balloons and general happy, warm feelings.

But if you think about it, it’s actually kind of odd; the getting down on one knee bit. We get that it’s tradition and stuff – but if you really think about it, what on earth has a man got to gain by hobbling down onto one knee? Aside from the fact it puts him at roughly the right height to literally reach for your hand in marriage, obviously.

This is why men traditionally get down on one knee to propose

Website Engagement Ring Bible recently looked into where the tradition came from, and explains that it “dates back to the days of knighthood, chivalry and formal courtship (i.e. medieval times and beyond).” Apparently:

“Knights would get down on one knee in front of their lord as a display of respect, obedience, and loyalty. It was also a common occurrence in religious ceremonies, and in those days marriage and religion were intrinsically linked.

“So when a courteous gentlemen was proposing to his lady, pledging his allegiance to her and declaring his undying love for her, getting down on one knee was the natural thing to do.”

So there you have it: if your partner goes to the lengths of getting down on one knee to ask for your hand in marriage, what he’s really trying to say is that he plans to be loyal, respectful, and do to what you say for the rest of time (that’s the obedience bit). If only he knew what he was signing himself up to.

Thanks for this! At least I know where it came from and yes I have seen it while watching The Outlander. I like that extra obedience bit. LOL!

    Sure, Sure. 😜

Can you guess what he was saying here?

Isn’t that scene where he said that he spent all his money on his lunch date with WeiWei?

I don’t know where these were taken from but I’m posting them here.

I saw this in yt. I believe it’s where their wedding registration picture came from. It must be a photo shoot for LoveO2O. Don’t they look so good together? 🙂

  2. What “Outlander”? Is this on netflix? I heard some folks discussing this a few weeks ago but when I came to approach them, they suddenly switched topics. To boring topics. Is Outlander about a time-traveling woman?

Yes, you’re right! It was when he boasted that he spent all his money on his lunch date. Thanks for reminding me that I’ve to add those gifs to my post on Episode 11.

They had a “wedding registration”? Huh? Was it on netflix? Did I miss this episode? Yes, they look good together.

  3. Howdy! 😊 just waking up.

Yes, The Outlander is about a time travelling woman and it is on Netflix. I only watched it because my cousin recommended it and I wasn’t watching any other kdramas at that time. It’s wasn’t an easy watch for me. 😬 It’s actually the first time I’ve watched something like it. I had to close my eyes sometimes. It’s definitely not boring.

The wedding registration picture was shown when the girls visited WeiWei at her new home with Xiao Nai. They were checking her wedding dress and they said the wedding is very near. But WeiWei said they’re already married and pointed at her bed side table. One of the girls took it and it showed their picture together from those gifs that you’ve posted. 😊

  4. Good morning!!

Wow! You’ve got some eagle eyes there @agdr03! I didn’t pay attention to the wedding pic. I guess I was too focused on the kissing scene. hahahaha.

I heard that Outlander was based on a book and it had a Scottish guy. And I’ve this fondness for Scottish-German guys with hair that becomes unruly in the rain, puppy brown eyes behind black-framed glasses, square jaw and 5 o’clock shadow, crooked nose and a scar on the right temple from playing football.

If you see one wandering around and looking lost because he thinks he’s too manly to consult his GPS, tell him his smartypants wife is waiting for him at home. hahaha.

  5. Good evening! 🙂

Aye! It is based on a book, a the love story between an English woman and a Scottish man. The man in the series, Jamie, is a hunk alright. He has red curly hair, very tall and has a good body. I’m not sure I have seen your Scottish-German guy but I will make sure to tell him to go home. 🤣

It was a brief scene but I couldn’t forget it because they look good in the picture even with just them facing the camera and not even standing close together. The girls teased WeiWei about being pregnant. hehehe They might not be far off because the honeymoon happened that night! 😉

  6. 🤰 Pregnant? Lucky! They’ll have a honeymoon baby.

Jamie’s a hottie? I’m sure. My office ladies read these romance novels with smutty covers. 🤪 So I’m sure if they were going crazy over this Outlander dude on Netflix then he must be a hunk, too. I know their standards in fictional men. 😈😂

    Hubba-hubba.

  7. Oohhh well they are not wrong there. Hubba-hubba he is! 🤣

That was the reason my cousin recommended it to me. She said you will like it and the leading man is hot. I’m afraid I have the same standards in fictional men. 🤣 🤣 🤣

I haven’t read a novel in years except the Love O2O online book that was posted here. 🙂
