Put Your Head on My Shoulder: Episode 21 Highlights

Three more to go. I promised myself I’ll end this soon so I can begin with Fair Xing’s new drama, “Your Highness, Class Monitor.” It’s now shown on Youtube and she’s starring opposite the Xiao Nai’s first brother from Love O2O.

1. Jealousy

He was careful not to stand beside his Senior.

He knew that STM was jealous of his Senior so he didn’t want her touching his hair nor his tie.

He moved away when she reached out for his hair.

He also moved away when she reached out for his tie.

It wasn’t his fault that his Senior caught him. He had been texting STM and was distracted by her sudden appearance just as he was texting her. It was cute though that he knew exactly when he was in deep doo-doo.

She retaliated when the Math guy asked for a picture with her.

MG: Let’s have a picture together.
Mo: Huh?
GWY: No way.

She was going to rebuff the Math guy but Gu WeiYi reaction made her change her mind. That was her counterattack.

Mo: Sure, come on.

But he walked over and inserted himself in the middle.

MG: (complaining) I’m taking a picture with her, not you.
GWY: (squeezing his shoulder) Hurry up.

She took her leave and she strode off in a huff. GWY followed her.
2. The flowers

I don’t think she minded much that she didn’t get flowers when her friends asked where her flowers where. But she got upset when she discovered that GWY got flowers from his senior.

It didn’t help that GWY was teased by the gang.

Fu Pei: Gu Wei Yi is enlightened now. (meaning, the boy genius didn’t need dating tips anymore from him)
The other boyfriend: He finally brings the flowers.
The girls: Yeah. We all have flowers. So smart! Except Situ Mo.

He glanced around. Situ Mo was scowling.

WY: (clueless) Must I give flowers?

Everybody else: (reminding him) Yeah. Sure. What day is it today?
WY: This is for you then.

Wrong move, pal!

Look: I don’t think she was angry that he didn’t get her flowers. She knew their money situation. (They had NO money. lol)  She’d be disappointed but she’d understand the situation. Hearing that he received flowers from his Senior would naturally make her livid.

But offering — no, RE-GIFTING her the Senior’s flowers — would make her go ballistic. It’s extreme and uncontrolled fury that she felt for him.

Giving her the bouquet from his Senior indicated that he was worse than clueless. He was just insensitive.

She pushed it away.

Everybody: Why did you reject it? Because they weren’t roses. Hurry up and catch her. What flowers are those? Chrysanthemums, huh.

hahaha. Chrysanthemums are cheerful flowers so they can be used for any ordinary occasions (and funerals). But for special occasions, nothing beats roses. Everybody continues to make fun of him.

Everybody: You can’t catch her even with such long legs, huh? You can’t catch her. You make me dizzy. Momo don’t be angry. Gu WeiYi, hurry up. Gu WeiYi, fighting!

The flowers end up with “Fatty” her other girlfriend. And he sulked because Situ Mo wouldn’t have his flowers…errr…his senior’s flowers.

But the sweet thing here was even when he was sulking, he shielded her from falling mortarboards.

His thoughtfulness and protection reminded me of that famous meme of a grouchy old man, who was sulking but shading his wife from rain with an umbrella while he got wet instead.

The kdrama I’m watching right now, “Angel’s Last Mission: Love” copied this concept for its poster. Tsk tsk tsk.

3. The library pictures

She didn’t want him copying her but he was trying to appease her by doing all the aegyo poses.

See that? In Episode 16, he had to google-search “how to coax a woman” but now he was applying what he already learned.

He knew he was being “punished” by Situ Mo when Situ Mo did progressively harder aegyo poses to test his limits. He had to jump through hoops to earn her forgiveness.

The harder she smiled that fake smile of hers, the harder he must try to get back in her good graces.

She wasn’t happy with his efforts, but I’m sure the viewers found his poses cute.

She finally had to give up.

4. The Chase

Mo: Don’t follow me.
WY: The stadium is big. Can’t I just come and play football?
Mo: Alright, go ahead.
WY: No balls.
Mo: Kick me then.
WY: I dare not do it.
Mo: What are you afraid of? Since you dare to let someone fix the tie for you?

Meaning, if he was really scared of her, then he wouldn’t have allowed someone to touch his tie. If he was truly scared of her, then he would have been scared of incurring her wrath for letting somebody touch his tie.

WY: I didn’t notice it.

That’s true. He was evading his senior’s hand. But he momentarily dropped his guard when he looked at Situ Mo’s direction. That was when his senior grabbed ahold of his tie.

WY: I’m innocent.
Mo: Is that so? You seemed to enjoy it.

He winced. He didn’t enjoy it but he was being a gentleman. He could hardly tell Situ Mo that his Senior was the one who initiated contact and fussed about his tie even after he dodged her hand.

Mo: Look at that! You’re caught red-handed and have nothing to say now.
WY: Nonsense.
Mo: Stop following me. (moving away) I told you. Don’t follow me.

That was a good move. He had to follow her because if he didn’t, she’d only get madder.

WY: Be reasonable.
Mo: Fine! I’m not reasonable. It’s all over for now, I’m going back to the dorm. I’ll never go back to your stupid house again.

Ugh. The drama! I’ll only tolerate this behavior because this is drama. In truth, I have little patience for girls (and guys) who suspect infidelity, exaggerate indignation, then threaten a break-up on little supporting evidence. Lovers should be presumed innocent and guilt should be proven.

He chased after her.

Mo: What are you doing?

He sat her on top of the goal.

Mo: Put me down.

She struggled and almost fell off.

WY: What do you want me to do?
Mo: I don’t know. Think of it yourself.

And he kissed her.

Mo: What are you doing?

WY: What?
Mo: Nothing. You’re experienced at flirting.

WY: I think so.

He didn’t look guilty that he was experienced with flirting. He looked smug that his trick worked AGAIN.

Remember? He kissed her too to make stop teasing him about being jealous of the Actor in Episode 18. He’d learned that kissing is the “best way to coax a woman.”

Mo: Put me down first.

He did and they left the field without saying a word. She was grinning and he followed behind her.

Mo: I’m so hungry. Are you hungry?
WY: Hungry.
Mo: But we don’t have the money to eat now. Why don’t we go and get some food? Fu Pei promised to buy all of us a meal.
WY: No.
Mo: Are you still jealous of Fu Pei?
WY: My senior is going to buy me a meal.

She went off like a rocket again. He ran after and hold her hand.

Mo: Don’t hold me. You should hold your senior instead.

Mo: Stop laughing.

WY: Let’s go home. I’ll cook you porridge.
Mo: You can’t cook it.
WY: You can teach me.
Mo: No way. You… I think you’re excellent. You know everything, don’t you?

I think he was smiling here because he was content. He certainly didn’t know everything, but because he knew enough of the RELEVANT things about her, like how to make her jealous and how to stop her from feeling jealous.

5. The scientific boyfriend

She finally learned that she just had to live with him, warts and all. Hopefully, she forgave him for not bringing flowers on their photo day.

Mo: I was busy with internship back then.
The Prof’s wife: I knew. All the other girls were escorted back by a boy. Only you came back on your own. Clearly, you were single who worked overtime. Do you have a boyfriend now. What kind of man do you like?
Mo: A scientist.
The wife: You got the right man
Mo: Huh?
The wife: My husband is doing scientific researches. He has two students. They’re quite nice. One of them is handsome but a little silly.

The Prof’s wife considered GWY silly because when she was questioning him and the Math Guy about dating, the one who answered in the practical way was the Math guy.

The wife: (continuing) But he’s your age —
Mo: I’ve got a boyfriend.

I like the way Situ Mo cut her off. She didn’t want to entertain matchmaking suggestions because she found the right guy already.

The wife: That’s good. I merely mentioned it. Actually, you shouldn’t get a scientist as a boyfriend. They always read for a whole day.

The wife: You can’t understand what he’s talking about.

The wife: Moreover, they always do weird things.

The wife: Always suddenly wake up from sleeping to do the calculation.

The wife: And always bring machines home.

Situ Mo grinned because it was just like Gu WeiYi.

On their way home, GWY was whistling. He had rebuked his Senior’s prejudice against Situ Mo, Fu Pei and the Math guy. He told her point-blank that his choice of girlfriend is none of her business. “My girlfriend has nothing to do with you. The guy named Fu Pei which you mentioned is my friend. He’s not as arrogant as you are, and he’s more courteous than you. One more thing. Don’t bully Zhou Lei anymore. He’s been in a rehabilitation center before.” (I think he meant that Zhou Lei could have a relapse because of her bullying.)

GWY was whistling happily since he defended his friends.

Mo: You seem to be in a good mood.
WY: I managed to punish the evil
Mo: Really, scientists are weird.

She didn’t understand what he meant by “punishing evil” but she could live with his brand of weirdness.

6. Her interrogation technique

She was putting him in the spotlight.

Mo: Say it. Do you have a girlfriend?
WY: Yes, I do.

He didn’t even blink. He was probably thinking, “What kind of stupid question is this?” But this brief moment reminded me of “Le Coup de Foudre,” another Cdrama. In that series, the girl liked to imagine herself playing a character unloved by her husband. She would “test” her husband by giving him weird scenarios.

Just like in this scene. Out of the blue, Situ Mo asked him an oddball question to see how he would react under pressure. Gu WeiYi was unfazed and even sounded bored by her antics.

7. The pottery session

I’m not surprised by this scene. It’s an homage to that iconic moment from “The Ghost”.

See that? I think this proves that she’s the one who’s been thinking “evil thoughts” aka perverted moments with him.

This had me laughing. His handiwork looked like grey poop.

I like this episode because we see Gu WeiYi applying what he had learned from their brief dating period. Sure, he’s still a work in progress. But being a smart guy, he doesn’t make the same mistake twice.

  1. I haven’t started any drama at all since this one finished but I will start on Your Highness, Class Monitor. 🙂

There’s a few cdrama that I want to check out but can’t seem to start it. That My True Friend that I mentioned here is on Viki too but I haven’t seen it.

  2. Growing Beautifully (GB)

About that neck tie thing. I loved that GWY accepted the badly tied tie just as it was. I felt that it was because it was Mo Mo’s handiwork and he did not want anyone to touch or change it. So not only was he avoiding that tiresome Senior because he didn’t want to be touched by her, but he was protecting Mo Mo’s work.

If Mo Mo had done the tie up correctly, there would have been no excuse for Senior to grab it. As it was, because she grabbed it, and changed how it had looked, GWY pulled it off entirely when he saw Mo Mo. He did not retain anything that Senior tried to do for him.

And Mo Mo has no one to blame but herself for that tie fiasco since she had tied it so badly to begin with!

  3. Agree with you there @Growing Beautifully that GWY was protecting Momo’s handiwork of a tie. Lucky he is not a perfectionist when it comes to those things. hahaha

  4. 🙂
Yes, that tie drove me nuts. If I could, I’d reach inside the monitor and fix it myself.
That’s the OCD in me talking.

  5. You’re right. It was nice of him to NOT complain about the tie. I’m sure the old GWY would have said something about it.

He’s a sweetheart but I hope the fangirls can still tell real boyfriends from imaginary ones or else they’ll be looking for a paragon all their lives. Oh dear.

  6. I watched an episode of “I Hear You” on netflix last night. lol. It’s about a “reality couple” ala We Got Married. Interesting concept.

  7. That tie didn’t look pretty alright 😁 I cant blame you for wanting to go inside the monitor. Hehehe

I saw that too on Netflix – I Hear You. But I didn’t check the info on it. Is it any good? There’s so many cdramas there now it’s good. 😊

  8. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Yes, I’m bogged down looking at the suite of cdramas. There are so many. I’m wondering if I really want to start and continue any. It’s scary in terms of the amount of time I have to invest if I really want to watch ‘properly’.

I have actually developed a liking for the actress Janice Wu after watching her in Le Coup De Foudre. I saw her again in The Brightest Star in the Sky. Although the show itself is nothing much, the way Janice Wu played this tech savvy girl with a mish-mash of deliberately applied subservience and yet steely autonomy and no fear about talking back to rude people, was entertaining.

The point to me was that I did not see ‘Qiao Yi’ in her new character, which means she is pretty good at inhabiting her roles and keeping her own idiosyncrasies undercover. As long as I can forget I’m watching Janice Wu, I tend to feel she’s a pretty good actress.

Show lacks nuance though, so I’m not really sure I want to invest in some 48 episodes!?!?

I have not yet touched I Hear You. We’ll see.

  9. Poor GWY with his askew tie! 🙂 But props to him for keeping it “as is” in honor of MoMo. Can hardly believe that we are nearing the end of the discussion for this sweet drama. It certainly helped me when I was needing a light watch.

Have to echo everyone here that the Chinese dramas continue to pile up.

@GB I feel you about the huge episode counts of the Chinese dramas. I think I already stated before about how these bloated ep. counts cause me to think twice about a lot of the Chinese dramas. If only China would just learn that less is more when it comes to storytelling!

@agdr03: I heard a lot of buzz about I Hear You when it first aired, and people were totally excited when Netflix picked it up so that there would (finally) be subs. Now I think is more mixed reviews, with some finding it really good and others not liking it. On the positive side it’s only 24 eps, so not a huge commitment. I have it on my watchlist to check out later. I heard a lot of people say they prefer “About Is Love” over this one, which I watched and totally recommend! It’s got flaws, but I found it very addctive. Also will recommend “When We Were Young” over on Viki if you are looking for another school/slice of life drama with a Reply 1988 vibe.

Right now I’m excited for the new Taiwan drama “Before We Get Married” which is on Viki. It’s a Puff Gao/Jasper Liu reunion and they had a great chemistry in their last drama together so I’m looking forward to seeing them together again in this drama. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea because it deals with mature themes, but I am so ready for a drama that is meant for adults and not teenagers. Saw the preview and looks like all 4 lead characters are mixture of good and bad points, so there should be lots to talk about.

  10. Howdy! 🙂

Long time no chitchat hehehe I hope everyone is fine and in good health.

@Table122000 thanks for the recommendations. I actually finished and watched About Is Love and I did enjoy it. I thought at the beginning I might not be able to but it was fine. I’m not sure yet about Before We Get Married as I’m getting mixed reviews too but I’ll check it out definitely and if episode 1 gets me hooked then I will watch the whole thing. 🙂

The only cdramas I’m watching now is YHCM and My True Friend. I’m on episode 21 of MTF and it’s a family oriented drama (again) and last night I felt bad for the real estate store manager. Anyway, this is the first time that I actually feel that the leading lady should be with the second male lead. hehehe Maybe because of their back story, I don’t know. 🙂

  11. I’m writing my review of Ep 1 of MTF as soon as I finish my glass of red wine 🍷. Ha! I’ve my priorities straight!
I’m liking it. Thanks for the rec.

  12. Really? Really? You like it? 🙂 I thought the way SPC (Shao Peng Cheng) approached CZZ (Cheng Zhen Zhen) was stalker mode to the max. LOL. Who would ride in a car with someone you haven’t met properly/don’t know? No way.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to your review. I’m sure it will make me appreciate it more and give me insights on the whole picture. This is my third drama with Deng Lun, he’s grown on me. I like him. 😁

I wish I can have some red wine! 🤔

  13. I like it. This is my first drama with Deng Lun.
I’m working on it right now. I finished Ep 1 and skimmed through Ep 2.

I might head to bed soon.

  14. I’m glad you like it. I can say Deng Lun is my second fave c-actor, after Yang Yang of course. I’ll re-watch it with you so I can refresh my memory as well.

    Good night Chinggu! 🙂

  15. Good night. 😴

  16. Done! I posted my first impressions for “My True Friend.”
I’ll work on “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” next. Sniff… it’s the last one.
I caught up on “Your Highness, Class Monitor.” lol. This is soooo shallow but maybe I’ll write about it. Just for fun.
I’m behind on “Abyss” and “Angel’s Last Mission: Love Tragedy”

  17. Good afternoon! Thanks! I saw your post and loved it. I take back what I said about Jing Ran getting together with Zhen Zhen. I thought after Italy, it might work but I was so wrong. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ll comment later, trying to clean while working from home. It’s very hard when it’s cold 🥶

Oh, did Angel’s Last Mission just became a sad story?

Agree with YHCM being soooo shallow. I think I stopped investing in it after a few interactions from our leads especially Zi Chen. He’s so casual and pretty much just sleeps in class 😄 I’ll finish it because I want to see what else he can bring to the table.

I saw your post about chemistry and cinematography. I can honestly say that I’ve been put to a corner by my favourite teacher 😂 I’ve been told! 😐

  18. Oh did they go to Italy together? When? What episode? What about Peng Cheng? Did he follow?
I don’t think Jing Ran is the endgame for her. Although I like the actor’s soulful eyes, he’s not the right fit for her. He might change later on but his personality in Episode 1 seems to be set in stone. I mean the unwavering, unchanging, stubborn type.
Peng Cheng is rough but he can change for the better.

I don’t know about Angel’s Last Mission. This week’s the fourth week, and it’s usually make-or-break time for me. I’ll watch everything when the subs come out.

I’m watching YHCM just to see when Zi Chen’s going to propose to her. But you don’t have to watch it. Maybe I’ll create an update post/open thread so you and I can talk about the scenes. No highlights, just chatter.

  19. Episode 12. ZZ was sent by the company to get JR to collaborate with them. She spent a few days there and I thought it was nice even though he was having trouble expressing his feelings. You got his characteristics spot on. Anyway, it just got more awkward for them when JR returns to China to buy a house. Peng Cheng is smart in getting people’s vibes, that is if something is off or not right.

Poor Peng Cheng, they missed each other at the airport, him arriving in Italy and ZZ going home. But I think JR recognised him looking at his back but he didn’t say anything to ZZ. JR’s Mom told PC that he was late and that JR and ZZ are dating. The look on his face was really sad ☹️

I’ll finish YHCM, I don’t mind it. I want to see them become a couple and be sweet together. 😊
