  1. This was show was like eating whipped cream for dessert–it tastes good but it’s not very filling. There wasn’t a lot of plot, which meant there wasn’t a lot of conflict either. This perhaps made it the perfect summertime watch. Everything in the end was wrapped up in a nice, pretty bow (the ending reminded me a lot of WWWSK). I do love to see an Episode 16 wedding…

I mostly watched it for the beautiful visuals–the hotel was gorgeous, Jun Ho was stunning in those three-piece suits, Yoon Na had a sweet smile, and Thailand was beautiful. I can’t imagine what this show would had been like with two actors who weren’t good looking or if it had been set in an old motel! That, for me, shows the weakness of the plot (or the lack thereof).

I ended up FF-ing through a lot of the date scenes where the ML mooned over the FL because I found them repetitive and the actors’ beauty by itself wasn’t enough to hold my attention. I often found the side stories about her friends working in the service industry more interesting because I don’t know that much about it in SK.

I still don’t know why they had that “meet cute”(?!) diarrhea-in-his-hotel-suite scene. It grossed me out and took away from those otherwise pretty visuals.

Fully agree with your analysis. If we take out the two good-looking actors, there is zero plot left to sustain interest. There is no conflict or drama or twists – it is just one long date scene with the leads in different clothes🙄. I also struggled to find depth of connection between the two leads and it felt more like insta-love (with no gradual progression to love). Junho’s role required just good looks and suits and not much acting, which is sad given how good he can act.

I dropped few episodes in between just because nothing happened and I kept on fast forwarding scenes.

I’m happy I chose to finish the other drama ‘See You in My 19th Life’ first. It started at the same time as ‘King the Land’ but was a much more coherent, plot driven drama, and wrapped up within 12 episodes.
Conversely, this drama, which had no plot, continued for 16 episodes!! The producer must have got many more sponsors because of the big names starring in this drama 🙄

  3. One positive regarding the first lead couple that made the drama a pleasure to watch was that the couple never let any roadblock shake their love for each other. Even after being exiled to the tourist hotel by Won’s father and knowing that Won’s mother had also been permanently banished SaRang made the experience a positive one rather than one of defeat. When Won appeared they negotiated whether and when she would return to King Hotel without recrimination or complaint on her part about the exile.

Admittedly their relationship is unbelievably idyllic, but it was enjoyable to see the sweet interactions of these two. A pleasant summer treat.
