My Demon: Eps 9 & 10 Open Thread

The thread is open.

I’ll have to catch up. You know, after working in Washington DC, I find the backstabbing (whoops. it was a heart-stabbing, right?) in this drama rather unimaginative, and the villains a bit gormless. But I guess, we’re supposed to see the DoHee and GuWon’s sufferings scale up in these next few episodes so their redemption/victory is cathartic.

Let’s enjoy the show.

  1. Thank you for the thread @pkml3 !

    My curiosities –

    1) We know by Ep 9

    – the probable culprit/villan
    – DH has given up on her inheritance
    – Multiple people know that GW is a demon
    – The deity’s identity is established
    – The customary dating episode followed by a major injury/accident done

    2) Not known

    – GW and DH past life story
    – How he became a demon
    -HEA ??

  2. An absolutely random thought (I see such things when other people are concentrating on the plot)

When GW was in hospital, the camera zooms in his vitals after the title slide of Ep 8. This is because they improved significantly after DH’s arrival as compared to earlier ! Omg… Such a small detail I’d expect only from Kdramas (don’t know about US shows).

I’m endlessly grateful for this blog because where else can I rant about such things and no one will bat an eye ?

  3. Note 2

I remember an old post by @pkml3 reg importance of “bearing the burden” of loved ones in Korean culture.

GW is shown doing the customery back carry / piggy back (is that a word ?) of DH IN ADDITION to having her dance on his feet / toes. He is going to “carry” her burden of fate ?

P.S. apologies for the haphazard writing. Work is crazy but a girl has to convey her thoughts on a tele show.

  4. Episode 9 – Live watching.

People on the internet were predicting an episode full of romance.
    Let’s see…

50:00 – Before the kiss in the greenhouse.
I don’t do screenshots, just watch this!!!
Look at those puppi eyes!!!! πŸ₯Ί
This drama has turned the actor into demon Pet!

Do Hee’s desperate look, “all my relatives are dead”.
    His response: “I don’t care”. πŸ˜…
    Ok, I removed a line. ^^

    Kiss with flowing tear.

02:45 – Time slows down (or stops).
I was joking about too many superpowers, and here we are…
Remember “My love from the star”.
The ML alien slowed down time.
W, time stop. Okay, justified since it’s a stop in the story.
The King Eternal Monarch: unjustified time stop just to accumulate more mess in the multitudes of fanciful concepts used.

It’s magic! His powers have returned.
No explanation, except the power of loooove.

    03:40 – Bed scene. Hardcore.
    Is this still a kdrama?!!
The episode begins in snail’s pace.

05:00 – This is serious, a clock stops.
Why? Because he’s no longer a demon, so can’t claim a soul? Or because he’s lost his virginity? That must be it…. Had to remain a virgin to remain a demon. 😜

    Title: the naked truth.

05:20 – In bed, after the effort.
    The fan service continues.

07:10 – At the diner, they talk about Christmas.
The timing of the episode’s release has been finely studied.
Then he teases the funny guy who hits on women.
Why does Gu Won interfere like that?!

09:00 – They go into the park. 😬
Gosh, the drama fans were right.
Nothing but (rather boring) romantic scenes.
Contrary to what people say, the direction is nothing exceptional.
It’s banal. No work on light or color, just random shots.
I think about this after watching The Glory and Reborn Rich, two dramas whose direction is truly spectacular.

    10:10 – Now they’re riding bikes… πŸ˜‘
    My nerves give way…

    11:20 – They’re taking a walk. 😣
    …… πŸ₯±
Gu Won says God is his boss.
It’s all too contrived for me to manage to believe in the romance, even if the two actors are cute.

    13:40 – They go for a soda. 😀
They’re making small talk. Which may have importance later, but I’m lazy to remember.

    16:30 – Suspense!!!
Someone’s got the killer song for a ringtone……

    17:30 – Still nothing happens.
It’s simple: Do Hee falls asleep, before the audience.

18:20 – They dance on the balcony. 😫
    When will this nightmare end?

Then we see the villains, who don’t do much either. Playing golf, staring into space, typing messages on their smartphones, etc…

21:30 – Flashback by Seok Min.
Interesting image: Mrs Ju has dark eyes.

23:15 – The psycho son hides a call from the mystery man. So we know it’s neither him nor his father Seok Min + We can see the look of his cigarette.

    26:40 – He’s unloaded. ahaha.
    Demon powers are very temperamental.

I rewatched some clips from Goblin. Although it’s boring, objectively, it’s still much better than My Demon. My Demon puts me to sleep, in a different way. It all feels old-fashioned. I’ve seen too many excellent dramas recently for this to stand up to comparison.

32:00 – So far, nothing has happened in 30 minutes. They’re doing a sketch of the killer.

    33:00 – The clown gang. 🀑
    It’s definitely not funny. 😢
    It’s loud. LOUD.

    35:40 – Ga Young arrives.
    Best moment of the episode.
    The actress is really pretty.
Jealousy crisis, nothing new compared to what she said before.

37:30 – Do Hee has a drink outside with Mrs Shin.
So, nothing continues to happen… πŸ₯±

40:00 – Do Hee is drunk.
    Noisy. Forced acting.
Not funny, despite (or because of) the addition of sound effects, such as a train chimney. Otherwise, there are a lot of little sound effects that I hate to punctuate comic scenes. Often a sabotage of the comic scenes.
Continuation of the drinking scene out of nowhere. It’s pathetic.

43:20 – The objective was this piggy back scene.
Gosh, nothing is spared us this episode. πŸ₯±

    44:20 – Do Hee in bed. 😴😴😴
Followed by the butler and Mrs Shin.
A scene filled with little unfunny sound effects that are supposed to make it funny.
This becomes as ridiculous and extravagant as Strong woman Nam-soon.

46:00 – The gang makes itself useful.
I lost track of when they received the killer’s sketch.
The police manage to find out his identity in the meantime.

48:00 – The psycho killer is visited by the mystery man in his theater. It’s Seok Min, and he tries to strangle him. Mmmh… This is confusing with the previous scene in the car. How could Seok Min be in the car, and at the same time elsewhere trying to make a call? Or are there two mystery men? Plot-Hole?

52:00 – Voice over Mrs Ju.
“I gave birth to the devil’s son”.
Then Seok Min’s diabolical laugh with chiaroscuro effect.
    Devilish !!!! Ahhhh!!! πŸ˜ˆπŸ‘ΏπŸ‘ΉπŸ‘ΊπŸ€‘

    At least something happened. πŸ™‚

55:00 – The police find the killer’s charred corpse.
But strangely, 70% of the room didn’t burn.

01:01:00 – All the clocks have stopped.

01:02:00 – Good idea from the scriptwriter.
The contracts all burn at the same time in the spiral building.

01:03:20 – The hobo god woman spills the beans: It’s because he’s become human. Followed by a scene at a gambling table.
And HOP, she turns into a refined woman.
She snaps her fingers, and HOP, we’re in the desert.
HOP. In the mountains. HOP. In the forest. HOP HOP.

Revelation: she’s given him demonic powers. The old woman is God! But there’s nothing God can do to restore his powers + “you’re going to die”. Or he gets them back if Do Hee dies. God is powerless and invents arbitrary rules according to the needs of the scenario. πŸ˜‚

  5. πŸ€ͺ That god isn’t much of a god if she’s powerless against death, isn’t she? πŸ€ͺπŸ€ͺ

Thanks for the live watch. Maybe I should do one, too? Along side yours? So we can have a his-and-hers POV? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  6. You’re welcome, @Arihsi.

I’ll *try* to catch up. My boys and my brother’s family are with me for Christmas so it’s a full (and noisy!) house.

Crossing my fingers that it’ll be a HEA so the start of the new year won’t be depressing. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  7. @pm3, go for some fun. There is probably other funny things and you have your own vision.

I was schoked by the poor directing, I didn’t look for this that much before.
But here it’s flashy. In the scene in the park (green grass behind) we can see how their faces are bland, without relief. Romantic scenes without visual magic.

Just the low budget “Perfect Mariage Revenge” was doing better, and has some visual identity.
I’m in the middle of “Reborn Rich”, and GOSH!! The directing is awesome.

  8. Thoughts on ep 10

It was very confusing. And even my year end spreadsheets read better than the last sequence. I’m not impressed.

It’s becoming like one of those “king hotel” type dramas that go nowhere.

Second leads are psychotic. Haven’t most of us been through unrequited “love” in our lifetime ? Did one respond by wishing other interests of our “crushes” dead ? Or did one just cried in a pillow, listened to sad songs and found someone else ? What is this jail time requiring criminal thought process that is beyond therapy?

  9. @pm3 I daresay I agree with @WEnchanteur. Your time might wasted on this drama at least at the moment.

    I am disappointed too @WEnchanteur 😞
To think I actually really liked this drama around Ep 4-6.
Ep 10 was hasty, shoddy, the feeling of “sacrifice” didn’t get through AT ALL. I prefered my 19th life CHILD actors in comparison.

  10. Kalispera,

I just managed to finish those two new episodes!

The only thing I want to say is that Star Jin is a delusional woman who doesn’t know her place nor what she is doing.

She can easily say to another to drink a poison. She also manipulated SH and he believed her that Gu Won wanted to harm Do Hee. She actually did the same in their past life. She was the reason Do Do Hee died in the past…

At the same time, the cousin gave hands with the mastermind who didn’t even care that his own flesh and blood committed suicide by trying to kill Do Do Hee. He is indeed a devil the way he was abusing and brainwashed his son and his mother didn’t do anything.

Seriously, what a family those Noh’s / Ju’s. They are not likeable at all.

  11. @Airhsi, the drama is uneven from episode to episode. I found it interesting from the end of episode 3. But some episodes are a bit holey.

I don’t waste my time. I try to appreciate when it’s successful. Or see why the failed parts don’t work. If I fail to know what, chances are I’ll produce that too when I’m writing, because even knowing what, it’s hard enough to avoid it.

For example, ep 9 gives me the impression that the writer has a plan for the episode, but not enough worthwhile content to put in it. So, you have to pad out. Density is low.

Often the drama puts us in “idle” mode. Instead of something significant happening, we see bits and pieces of scenes, often the same ones. The killer in his apartment, the man with gloved hands, and so on. Or various characters who serve as fillers. If it’s a comedy scene and it’s successful, it passes, otherwise it adds to the feeling of stagnation.

I’m going to watch episode 10 now. πŸ˜‰

  12. Episode 10 – Live watching.

Starts with the scene with God (or the universe, time, etc.)

02:15 – Gu Won points out the absurdity:
    “Why are you doing this?”
And God replies that she doesn’t know everything. Lampshading?

    02:40 – God throws dice.
Excellent idea referring to Enstein’s famous quote: “God doesn’t play dice”.
Well, He does! Proof here. πŸ˜†
However, I have the impression that God cheats because she shoots:
    4 + 4 and the dice aligned the same way with the 5 + 5 side. πŸ˜‚
It’s a consistent God: created the rules, but destiny depends on multiple human choices.
Although that doesn’t explain the strange “he must die, or Do Hee” rule. Hummm.

03:15 – Ga Young tells Seok Hoon that Gu Won is a demon.
I wonder what she thinks she’ll gain by doing that.
Other than that, still gorgeous. And as luck would have it, I also see the actress in “Reborn Rich”.
I guess she’s hoping Seok Hoon will do something to help her separate Gu Won and Do Hee.

04:50 – Gu Won at night on a bridge has a flashback:
The episode starts well, with this good choice of scene-order.

    Title: Breaking the shell.

05:25 – Seok Hoon ponders turning something in his hand.
Flashback montage, with Ga Young voice over. Excellent.

06:25 – The villainous Seok Min receives Do Hee’s renunciation of inheritance. She has finally made this decision (previous episode).

    07:30 – Flashback 2006.
Villain + Mrs Ju + Do Hee as a child.
    Close-up, he has a dictaphone.
Do Hee understands instinctively not to shake hands with this sinister guy.
Otherwise, nothing special. One minute for this…

09:00 – A bizarre scene. Seok Min seems to have hacked his son’s phone and is deleting messages about the dead burnt killer.

09:25 – Gu Won with Do Hee.
+ voice over flashback of God.
The romantic scene is better than the previous ones, with the dramatic plot as a backdrop.
She confused sugar and salt to make her cake.

    13:00 – They’re on the balcony.
Do Hee: to avoid being manipulated by fate, it’s best to do nothing. πŸ˜…
    Or go for a walk.
This bodes well for an episode as epic as the last. πŸ™„
He wants them to pull an all-nighter, so the epic action will start now. 😁

15:40 – As promised, they do nothing.
    Um, watching a horror movie.

16:48 – Gu Won, one of his best lines:
    “Boring to the end”.
Perfectly suited to the meta context. πŸ™ƒ
Do Hee has fallen asleep again…. 😴😴😴
But I’ll hold out, I’m watching this in the morning! Fighting! ✊
After a looooong silence… he’s talking to himself.
Good tip: the TV displays “the end”.

18:20 – In bed. He says he’s leaving (far away).
She talks in her sleep. “I’ll find you again”.

19:20 – Gu Won alone on balcony.
    Staring into the full moon.

19:35 – These ten epic minutes are already over.
Really, I didn’t see the time go by. πŸ˜‡

    God cheating at the game.
    Reveals, “I love making choices.”
Hmm… This contradicts the previous dialogue.
Saying God only makes the rules, and the choices are human?!!!
He challenges God to win, regain his powers and that neither he nor Do Hee dies.
“Never say never.” (he’s seen all the James Bond films)
    On the dice: 1 + 1, on the side 4 + 4.

22:10 – In the clock collection.
    Goodbye to the butler.

24:00 – Do Hee wakes up.
Mmmh, wasn’t the moon full? Or would it be over already?
Ah yes. The full moon is tonight.
He wants to go on a trip to Sokcho tonight.
Thinks he knows how to get the tattoo back.

    25:25 – Do Hee’s open space.
Product placement: sexual stimulants and chocolate bar.
    Dialogue between employees unimportant.
+ 1 minute: Do Hee arrives.
    Flashback to drinking scene.
    Then, comedy? about a rat.

28:23 – Useless scene with Soo An.
    I note it anyway:
Excellent transition with close-up of her hair resembling a rat’s mane.
She’s worried about the inheritance and…

29:04 – Close-up on the inheritance waiver document.
The previous scene was used as a bridge to fluidify and give meaning to the scene-order. Well done! But rather long to get here.

Do Kyung takes out his smartphone. Photo of Mrs Ju and her father.
I’m a bit confused about the whole second smartphone thing, deleted messages and so on.
It seems Do Kyung doesn’t want his father to know he had a connection with the psycho-killer.
Plus, we see his cigarette. Maybe the scene in the car (previous episode) had a different meaning. Maybe it was a flashback of him sending a message to the psycho-killer.

End of scene: Seok Min looks at the cigarette butt. To be confirmed: perhaps he saw the same cigarette butt at the psycho-killer’s house? Or an identical cigarette pack.

30:15 – Butler. Flashback with Gu Won.
    Repeats what we already know.
Butler reads history book with Gu Won.

31:11 – Caught red-handed by the lovely Ga Hyoung. 😍πŸ₯°
He tells her all about Gu Won. But in elipse.
Well done, it would have been painful to have the recap of the situation again.

    32:10 – Police station.
    Nothing special…

33:45 – Do Hee at his desk.
A cable car on the tourist brochure.

34:20 – Ga Hyoung calls her. Comes to see her.
Discusses Gu Won’s plan with her. Do Hee learns the truth.
Good move by Ga Hyoung. She urges Do Hee to sacrifice herself.
+ Gu Won arrives. Drama. Tells Ga Hyoung:
“You’re nothing to me”. OUCH!!! πŸ€•
A lot of viewers criticize Ga Hyoung, but I like her.
She makes the drama spicier. Jealousy scenes, drama, keeps things moving. πŸ‘

37:08 – Do Hee investigates Gu Won’s case.
Remembers innocuous words that take on meaning.
    Look at the river Han……
Recapitulates what has already been recapitulated x10. 😬
    Flashback fiesta!!! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

39:18 – She finally comes back to him.
    “Let’s do it.” Dramatic hug.

40:30 – Ga Hyoung meets Seok Hoon. He’s determined, but since his goal is logically to save Do Hee, I don’t see how that would help Ga Hyoung.

41:33 – Car then beach. Longing looks, song.
    Yep, nothing’s happening….
    + Flashback fiesta!!! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

44:40 – Beach, night. Full moon. They leave.

    45:12 – Sad butler.
Ga Hyoung sad + Seok Hoon. They’re probably going to Sokcho.

    45:52 – Shareholders’ meeting.
Seok Min: “You have to hit bottom to reach the top”.
    (correlation: river bottom)

46:45 – Gu Won + Do Hee in car.
Nothing, except: Out of gas… mmh

    47:20 – Gas station.
Certainly a reason for arriving here…
    Buy Postcard? Cake?
AH here’s the reason: crazy Do Kyung is spying on them. + he’s bleeding.
Flashback to his father. He burns him with a red-hot iron.
No wonder he’s a nutcase with such an upbringing. πŸ€ͺ

I realize that so far, the writer has been dragging things out the whole episode from the beginning (“set up the problem”). And I guess the cliffhanger will be the moment they go into the river.
HOP, only ten more minutes to go. 😡

Everything is so slow. Even the shots drag on. If the script is too empty, the director has no other choice, the editor ditto.

50:40 – Phone Do Hee + Seok Hoon.
Ga Hyoung must have lied to him about something, but I don’t know what.
Since her goal is for Do Hee to die.

    51:40 – Shareholder meeting, close-up Seok-Min, then…
Do Kyung takes action. Crushes Do Hee in car.
    Shareholder meeting, Seok-Min elected.
This montage makes it look like Seok Min ordered his son to kill Do Hee. Good point.

52:15 – Ga Hyoung + Seok Hoon arrive.
Do Kyung’s car explodes. The store with it.
So “theoretically”, he dies and so does Do Hee.
Ga Hyoung wants to stop Gu Won going into the fire. Sweet girl.
Gu Won walks into the flames.
Seok Hoon realizes he’s been duped.

Finally, the cliffhanger is here and not in the river.
It adds a surprising event. Pretty cool.

54:02 – The hobo god woman laughs.
“People put someone else’s life first”.

    Gas station.
It seems the explosions have no effect.
Do Hee is alive, but falling asleep. 😴
She had written him a burning note.
Flashback of Gu Won, the first time he becomes a demon, presumably to save someone.
Catches the store roof on his head.

    56:08 – Seok Min, president.
“Mother, I’ve become the devil you wanted.”

    57:20 – In slow motion…
Gu Won leaves the store carrying Do Hee.
Close-up of the cross around his neck.
    Teen song. Twilight vibe. πŸ¦‡πŸ§›πŸ¦‡πŸ§›πŸ¦‡

    59:10 – Explanatory flashback:
He held her hand. And retrieved his tattoo.
    Interesting here:
    – He loses his tattoo in the water, but gets it back in the fire.
    – He had to sacrifice himself for someone to get his tattoo back.

Back to ep 1 ending: She was about to go out of the river.
But she dives to save him (risky). So, it’s how she got the tatoo.

  13. —– Interpretations. —–

    Dice. 4+4 (side 5+5)
Become 1+1 (side 4+4) after Gu Won’s resolution.
Not only is the old face replaced by the new one. Kept on the side.
    But also: 5 – 4 = 1.
    ANd 1+1 for a couple.

    Passing on the tattoo:
    – Requires sacrifice for someone else.
    – Must be done on a full moon.
    – Use the reverse element (but this point may only be symbolic).

The inversion of sugar and salt in the cake.
Cakes are a symbol of victory for Gu Won.
Just as the elements water and fire are reversed at the end (victory).

Reference to complementary elements. Ying Yang (thanks ClΓ©o).

    —– Theories. —–

The episode talks a lot about sacrifice, here’s another:
Seok-Min ordered his son to murder Do Hee.
Resulting in his death (desired or not?).
    A reference to Abraham’s sacrifice.
But since Seok-Min is evil, his son is not saved.

    Breaking the shell.
I haven’t found the meaning of the title, but a hypothesis:
Because of the close-up on the cross on his neck, maybe when Gu Won gets the tattoo, he turns into an Angel.
The term “breaking the shell” then refers to an alchemical transformation (hence the use of opposite natural elements, Fire and Water). Like saying “break out of the cocoon”, or being reborn like a phoenix. Fire also has a purifying role. Should be the moment of communion in the Catholic Church?
In this way, his transmission of the tattoo in water acts as baptism.

Gu Won is a demon, and Do Hee an angel.
But this theory holds less and less water.
To be seen in future historical flashbacks, the first time he becomes a demon. We see a ring of fire and he seems to be saving someone (her in her previous incarnation?).

    —– Thought. —–

I should do a recap for every drama episode I watch, because I definitely pay more attention to detail. The problem is, it takes three times as long to watch the episode. And instead of being fully immersed in it, I take notes. AAArrrrfffff. T T
So maybe do that after a first viewing, and only for dramas that fascinate me.

  14. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@WE, I take notes on either the first watch or on the rewatch. Still it takes a lot of time. We spend twice or trice as much time on the episode than if we don’t bother to take notes or transcribe. But if I don’t take the trouble to do this, I will be writing based on my poor memory and may be writing nonsense!

  15. @GB, oh, it’s why I often write nonsens. πŸ™‚
The first experience without taking notes is interesting: it’s how we watch it without cheating. We suppose the production should make that enjoyable and understandable this way. For ordinary audience. If not, there is a problem.

  16. Oh how fascinating @WEnchanteur ! Thank you for taking the trouble to explain these finer nuances.

Now I’m even more irritated at the writer. Do they not know that a large proportion of the audiences may not be Christian and therefore have no idea about hidden meanings? They should explain this better – when one is able to read the full intention of what is happening on screen, the viewing is infinitely better.

Here I keep wondering what’s going on ! Thank you for making ep 10 better for me. Please accept a virtual cookie πŸͺ.

  17. The first moments of episode 9 were such a snooze that I’ve decided to stop watching this show and just read recapsβ€”and go online to look for any interesting scenes that are noted in them. This show is on par with King the Land, with shots of pretty people doing pretty things together substituting for a plot. If these were two were homely actors no one would watch it.

  18. Hello!

There are good episodes and there are bad episodes. Still, Episode 9 was not that bad.

We see that Do Do Hee is the element of Water, while Gu Won is the element of Fire. As I have written on MDL and I had a morning chat with @We, we get to see how this tattoo exchange work.

They both did a selfless act in a near death experience, while it was a full moon. Since they are like yin and yang, because they are meant to be together, I expect to see their past story and how Gu Won was made a demon.

Also, what I would like to pinpoint is that:
Here in this Dramaverse the Goddess seems to be imperfect. Here is the conversation that says a lot about this divine being. Inside the parentheses () are my comments and I am going to conduct this as an Philosophical essay. *grins*

By her own words: Some call me the universe. Others call me time. You know what they say. “God is everywhere and in everything.

GW: To me that sounds like God is nowhere.

Goddess: Just as defiant as a demon should be. To think we’ve traveled halfway around the world for blasphemy.

GW: I believe you, so give me back my powers.

    G: I can’t do that.

    GW: What?

G: Even though I gave you the powers, I didn’t take them from you.

GW: Did this happen because I haven’t made a new deal? Can I get my powers back If I make one right now?

G: Deals won’t change anything. Since the powers are in the wrong body, It’s only natural for them to fade until they’re completely gone.

    GW: Then I’ll…

G: That’s right. You’re dying as we speak.

GW: Then how can I get my powers back? There must be a way.

G: It’s simple. You can get your powers back once the woman dies. Once the current owner is gone, the tattoo will return to its original owner.

GW: What if she doesn’t die?

G: If she stays alive until the full moon, the tattoo will disappear. And you’ll cease to exist through spontaneous combustion. You went to such great lenghts to keep her alive so far, but she must die for you to get your powers back. Tsk Tsk Tsk…
(She seems to mock him for his decision to protect Do Do Hee and no I don’t like that. Shiro!)

GW: What’s the point of all this? Why are you doing this to us?
    (The Million Dollar Question!)

G: I don’t know everything just because I’m God. (Gotcha!)
The world works in suprisingly imperfect ways. (Because you didn’t create it, but someone else did!)
All you do is make your choice, and the roulette wheel spins on its own. That’s how the world works.

GW: What kind of an irresponsible —

G: If someone is to be held responsible, it’d be you, not me.
I may have set the basic rules, but humans freely make choices rather than following those rules, creating countless anomalies. You humans love to blame fate for everything, but fate is nothing more than a web woven by a myriad of choices of your making.
(So, this Goddess says there is not fate per se, humanity what you do is all of your making! Demon Gu Won who you are now a mere HUMAN you are in fault! for choosing Do Do Hee to protect her and love her, etc.
Sorry this cosmogony is not my cup of tea…)

GW: Is there no other way? A way that both of us can live?

G: Unfortunately, there isn’t. At the full moon, the roulette wheel will come to a stop, and the game will end one way or another.

And that is before Gu Won came to tell her that he will make a bet…

    *To be Continued…

  19. @Cleopatra πŸͺ for the detailed analysis… I await the rest !
Curiously, in Hinduism, gods are not perfect. There are many a thesis written on the subject and one is free to criticize those “decisions” made by the deities in mythology. Additionally, Karma is the considered the greatest “decision – maker” and not the deities. If you go on collecting bad Karma, there is not a god who’ll save you from the consequences.

  20. @BethB, I know right! King the land was so UNforgettable that I forgot its name 😜 I thought it was called King hotel… But yes, this drama is becoming a second copy of it.

  21. GrowingBeautifully (GB)

@BethB @Arihsi Thanks for your reviews. I feel more at peace that I decided not to watch both KTL and MD after starting off on them so hopefully.

@WE mentioned that he did not know what is meant by the production does not respect the viewer. This is an example of it. Where there is no proper plot, and/or where the quality is inconsistent, and/or there is a lack of coherence, but viewers are expected to accept all this because of the good looking actors.

  22. I binged watch this drama this week and I loved this. I have to agree on episode 9 being so slow, I had to stop halfway to take a nap considering that I was tired today. It was hard not feeling tired.

I read somewhere that DoHee may have taken the poison or planned to take the poison?
While the transfer of tattoo required a sacrifice, but could it also require dying…at the same time. Now…who was the one who has to die or was it both of them? It was similar in the water. They both almost died. And the power of the tattoo saved them.

@WE i like what you said about water referencing to baptism. That first tattoo transfer was like his baptism into being human. Baptism means to be freed from sin and to be reborn again. He was freed from being a demon(?) and born again as a human. (Experiencing human emotions, dreaming about his past and can die)

GuWon walks into the fire as a choice to save DoHee but in doing so he also went through a process of purification. He was able to put his life down for someone he loves. Why does he need to go through this fire of purification? Did he not save her in his past life because he was too selfish? Was this like a 200 year old lesson? (Reminds me of Hotel del Luna)

So what will happen to GuWon and DoHee in future now that he has his powers back. Will he remain a demon forever or he will transform into human at some juncture?

  23. @Grace. Except hypothesis, no idea what becomes Gu Won. But as he have now a tatoo, he should have superpowers too. So an interesting twist would be the vilain Seok-Min gets superpowers too by becoming a demon, or the devil (like he says). That’s way the fight would be more fair and dangerous.

About hobo-god-woman, I had this thought: she said she only makes the rules, like “god doesn’t play dice” or “there is nothing random but human choices”. But she cheats when she’s playing a game. And there is really something mysterious about that, and I don’t have any answer. If she cheats, it’s like she removes randomness, right? Also something else mysterious is she also say “I love to make choices”. And it’s a contradiction of what she says previously. Here too, I don’t find an answer.

  24. So I’m anticipating what is to come! I love when scripts hold that suspense and make you anticipate because there are so many possibilities. Other than the dragging in episode 9 of the standard swoony dates I’m loving where this is taking it to.

No episodes this week because of the awards. So I’m getting by with listening to their OST over and over again.
Loving these two songs “Our Night is More Beautiful Than Your Day” which is a remake of the original by Kona 11 years ago. It was also in Crash Course Romance episode 6 according to the comments in the video. But the remix by New Jeans is really beautiful

The other song I love is True by Yaori. The tune reminds me of another song in It’s Ok To Not Be Ok but sung by a different singer..just that the song stye is so similar

  25. Kalimera @Arihsi,

There are a lot I want to write, but I can’t.

I am utterly shocked by the passing of Lee Sun Kyun.
When I will be feeling better I will write. πŸ™„

  26. Oh @cleopatra

What do I say… As someone who works in healthcare, I feel so sad when we loose people to preventable causes. Drugs, smoking, alcohol, vaping (yes, contrary to what today’s youth might believe, vaping kills. Eventually.) You name it and I’ve felt like crying over it. I couldn’t shake it off when I read about MJ and his last days. That other singer also from SHIEN or some other idol group… List is very long, sadly.

Is it pressure? Is it society? Is it “fans” ? Who knows.

Just today, internet is filled with X vs Y couple for some SBS award. I hope none of those people are paying too much attention to internet.

  27. Also, these people are surrounded by doctors and advisors and secretaries and I don’t even know who else. Sets are always so crowded and busy with people running around.

Is there no one to tell them that drugs once done (ONLY once) permanently change neural structures? Drug addiction is next to impossible to overcome depending upon type of drug abused and relapse rate is extremely high. Is there no one to tell them don’t do it ? So what if a bunch of morons don’t like you ?
