Start-Up: Eps 1 to 4 First Impressions
Someday, you must make time to watch “Cyrano de Bergerac” to understand where this romcom is coming from. It borrows significant elements from that 19th century French classic by Edmond Rostand. To save you time googling “Cyrano,” I’ll tell you the story as I remember it. Cyrano is a soldier and poet who’s in love […]
Zombie Detective: Eps 11 & 12 Open Thread
The Korean word for this Open Thread is 주세요 or “juseyo.” It means “please.” More “Zombie Detective,” juseyo? Season 2, juseyo? Amuse us some more with your jokes and metas, juseyo? We want kisses next time, juseyo? Keep the same cast, juseyo? Juseyo. This thread is now open for your comments. Let’s enjoy the finale! […]
Start-Up: Before I Begin My Review…
The story has potential, but the ONE thing that’s dragging it right now is… drumroll please…. lol. Even the drumroll monkey is rolling his eyes because there’s really no surprise here. . . . . . is Suzy. This has to be said. Suzy is the weakest link in this drama. The story is good; […]
Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol: @JT7’s Timeline
This is @JT7’s timeline to help us organize new information about Jun’s and Rara’s past in a chronological order. Thanks, @JT7! Date format: Month/Date/Year Date/Month/Year — sorry. My brain must have been sleeping on the job. 🙂 ************************** 1997: Rara is born 2002: Jun is born? (Jihun’s birthdate: 10/5/2002) 2019: Rara’s graduation concert 23/12/2019: Ji […]
Alice: It’s an Eggbeater!
The 1980s anti-drug campaign can be adapted for this kdrama. Here’s my anti-Alice public service announcement now that this show has ended. This is your brain. credit: livescience It’s unblemished and intact. This is your brain after watching Alice. credit: epicurious Meaning, this drama *scrambles* your brain…but in an unappetizing way. This is the brain […]

Zombie Detective: Eps 9 and 10
Once again, I’m impressed with the wit of the writer of this kdrama. Even the titles are witty — Episode 9 is “There are No Bad Zombies in This World.” Episode 10 is “The Secret of Birth.” 1. The titles On one hand, the titles can be interpreted literally. But they actually provide a tongue-in-cheek […]

Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol: Ep 4 Highlights
I’m reposting what I’d written in the Open Threads. 1. Team Jun or Team Doc? Of course, I’m Team Jun. But I get why both men are suspicious of each other. To Jun, the Doc is a dubious character because of 1) his interest in Rara, and 2) his interest in him. Jun thinks the […]

Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol: @JT7’s notes on the Mystery Man
Thanks, @JT7. These are her notes. I’m just adding screenshots and some comments here and there. ************** I did a quick rewatch of certain parts while folding the laundry. I realize the show gave us many clues wrt various characters that I missed out during the first watch, because my initial approach was to watch […]

Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol: Ep 3 Highlights
In a nutshell, Eps 3 and 4 were a delight to watch. I didn’t see a scene in either episode that needed a tweak or rewrite. This is the romcom that I need nowadays. I’m reposting some of my comments on the Episode 3 Open Thread here. Although the scenes are self-explanatory, I’m writing them […]
