Use this one. It’s been revised. Thanks! 🙂

Yes. The Bitches of this blog are that obsessive and I’m proud of them.

Mychoiyoung made an excel spreadsheet to get us up to speed on who’s scarred or not, and whose scar has activated or not.

Thanks, mychoiyoung!!!

Just a minor clarification here.

The person who died at the bookstore

was actually Lee Rim’s Korean driver. This man:

The driver had once said to Lee Lim, “You know never know what someone is really thinking,” and he was right. He shouldn’t have trusted Lee Lim.

Lee Rim asked him to go to Corea and replace this guy.

The Driver was deceived into thinking that bookstore owner was being replaced because the bookstore owner displeased Lee Lim. He didn’t know it was the reverse. He was the one who displeased Lee Lim and was being terminated by Lee Lim.

Driver: The bookstore? Me? Why is that prick acting up?
Lee Lim: He’s no longer useful. I need you to take care of that bookstore.
Driver: (proud of himself) See? I told you. I don’t have to take anything, right? When should I go? What do I do when I’m there?

My guess was right. I said between the two of them, the driver was expendable because he was just all brawns, and no brains. Besides, he was the one who threatened to kill ShinJae and TaeEul.

On the other hand, the bookstore owner was one of the original coup plotters. And he’d been a loyalist all this time; he was the salt farm worker.

Of course Lee Lim would protect this man rather than the Korean version. This man took a bullet for him.

That’s why Lee Gon ordered his Capt Seok, “Check his left shoulder for a gunshot wound.” When they saw there was no scar, Lee Gon knew that Lee Lim had already switched out the real guy for this one. This ex-driver was just a pawn in Lee Lim’s game.

Lee Gon then reassessed the situation, and in a voiceover he said, “Those with the same faces are stealing lives of their counterparts.”

Somebody here in this blog (I’m sorry I forgot his/her name) asked how Lee Gon knew to search for TaeEul in Corea.

I think that was the moment he realized that he miscalculated. When he discovered that the real bookstore owner (the one in the pictures) had been replaced, he knew that:

a) TaeEul would be in danger because she had a living and breathing counterpart, Luna.

b) Lee Lim could already have removed TaeEul and switched her with Luna. That’s what the “thunder and lightning” and the Yoyo Kid in the camera were warning him about.

— BTW, before I forget, the thunder and lightning became more frequent in Episode 12 to “warn” Lee Gon that he could actually identify who had crossed over because of lightning scar. I told you that thunder/lightning were his allies in the fight against Lee Lim. Also, the sea is his ally too. I’ll explain later.

c) time was of the essence here. However, Lee Gon was confident that if TaeEul had already been abducted FROM Korea and brought TO Corea, he could find her more easily, given the resources at his command, than he would have done so if she was still in Korea.

That’s why when he left the bookstore, he was telepathically reassuring TaeEul to hang in there. “Hang in there just a little longer, Lieutenant Jeong TaeEul. I’m coming for you. I will find you no matter what. Please just be there, no matter where you are.”

He meant that he’d find her and go to wherever she was. And Lee Lim understood his nephew’s mentality, too because he said, “Lee Gon will come even for her corpse” so ordered his minions to bring TaeEul back to him, dead or alive.

Lee Gon and the God of the sea.

Lee Gon is the ally of the sea. He’s the one favored by the “Dragon of the East Sea.”

1. According to the legend of the Manpasikjeok, it was given to the king of Silla by the Dragon of the East Sea. Lee Gon is the hereditary King, not Lee Lim.

2. There was a “sea of blood” when the child Lee Gon walked down the hallway to Flute Chamber on the night of the regicide.

3. The flute played for the young LG and its sound woke him from his sleep. If he didn’t arrive, the flute would have been stolen by the Bad Uncle, and all would be lost. According to young Lee Gon, the flute was so loud that he couldn’t hear the guns.

4. Lee Gon is also the man of the sea.

For one, he’s a rower. I told you he’s rower Number 8 on the team or what we call the “stroke.” The stroker is the best rower and the most competitive. He must also have the best technique because he sets the rhythm and number of strokes per minute. His crew behind him follow his strokes.

And he’s a lucky one, too. He’s the #8 of the 88th class.

5. For another, he served in the Navy. He said, “I left the military as a Navy Lieutenant. I’m not sure if you believe this but I’m the Commander-in-Chief of the Kingdom of Corea.” In his first military act as the commander-in-chief, he defended the sea from Japanese aggression.

I thought his victory here was supposed to reinforce the idea that he was the “god” of the Corean seas.

6. When he appeared in the Republic of Korea, water magically appeared. Like here.

I’m sorry, Welmaris. What’s the date again? Thank you, Court Historian. 🙂

This is creative license though. I don’t think it actually rained that day.

7. That scene in Episode 3, when time stopped, showed us that he was standing on wet pavement.

He often stands on wet pavement, Growing_Beautifully.

And his reflection and TaeEul’s were seen on a water dish. (This dish is meant for doggies when you’re taking them out for a run in the park.)

I thought the doggy dish made a nice foreshadowing. TaeEul had been walking in the same park and her solitary self was reflected on the water. She was missing him.

And then the rain came down so she ran home.

I took this as a sign from the gods that Lee Gon would soon return. And sure enough, we had the thunder and lightning in Corea, and Lee Gon escaped this palace to visit TaeEul on November 11, 2019.

7. And his visit was “artistically” represented in the episode as a water droplet falling from a leaf into a puddle. lol. Ripples were formed.

I thought it was funny though when TaeEul drove over the puddle in the next scene. She had rushed home as soon as Lee Gon called her up at work, and informed her that she was back.

8. His favorite “thinking” and waiting spot in the palace is always wet. lol.

Episode 6.

Episode 7.

Episode 10.

  1. I hope they will offer Microsoft Office with the DVD box set.

  2. Character bios and timeline diagrams would be useful additions to the DVD too!

    Great job, MyChoiYoung!

  3. 😂😂🤣 Too funny, WEnchanteur.

  4. @Packmule3,
Ugh, sorry. I’ve just created several memes, and I’m still parasitized by comic-strip type humor.
Otherwise, having only seen the episode once, of course, I completely failed to see that the guy killed in the bookstore wasn’t the saltz man.

  5. Growing Beautifully (GB)

Thanks for this @pkml3. Especially for clearing up the No Name driver vs Yoo Kyung Moo. So the scene after the rout at the Bookstore was a flashback. LL was picking his team whom he’d keep, before LG took action. This means, that when he heard that Prince Buyeong had visited the Bookstore, he knew that place had been compromised and would be targeted by LG.

However, he didn’t bother to get all those minions out of there, they were either expendable like No Name, or he really did not think that LG would be so blood-thirsty. I fancy both the might be true. The latter is likely true, because he evinced surprise at the killing of all the people there.

The former can also be true, and that’s scary, because it means he has loads more minions, so that he does not care about sacrificing these 50-60 or so. However, his remaining minions might start to notice that he’s not loyal towards them, the way that they are towards him. He might start to lose support.

@pkml3, you are trying to draw my attention to wet pavement? What is this in reference to (can’t recall what I said!!)

He often stands on wet pavement, Growing_Beautifully.

I vaguely recall noting the rain/water in connection with LL, and wondering if the lightning that struck to the roots of the tree was working on LG’s side. Was that what you’re referring to?

In my notes, I noted reflections in water a lot. In my Ep 12 notes, I noted that it rained at least 3 times (when TE was being treated for her wounds, when SJ and LL bumped into each other, when PM Koo was in the study with LG there was lightning and at the same time HCL was speaking to TE at the last scene). Both LL and HCL referred to the rain as well.

Yes, I hadn’t yet thought that the lightning was Fate’s way to “warn people of danger and defeat the enemy” as she had told TE.

(Fate removes tape over TE’s mouth)
TE: “What are you doing here kiddo. Get out of here.”
Fate: “I warn people of danger and defeat the enemy.”
TE: ” What? By the way, you’re in this world too?”
Fate: “There’s only one of me. I went to the other world. (She cuts the rope that ties TE.) I’m trying to restore balance. There are too many enemies.”

With the many minions all over the place, this now makes perfect sense. Fate is trying to give LG a fighting chance with lots of rain and lightning to help him identify the many enemies.

I like that Show is being clear and transparent about this. At this stage, the logic needs to be more clearly shown. What exactly the limits of the power of the flute are, is still questionable.

Connecting thought – Thinking about the sword, and how it’s supposed to also work in bringing balance. It is literally used by LG to cut down the numbers of the enemies to start evening out the playing field. That’s a kind of balance too! 😆

  6. briliant. First the ultra detailed character summaries by Welmaris, then the frozen times by Rahrah, and now an actual table by mychoiyoung to verify the theory that the scar only appears for characters who crossed portals and whose doppelgangers were killed
    Awesome!!

And you’ve added to it. With lightning being a good omen and now the god of the seas :))
BTW “And he’s a lucky one, too. He’s the #8 of the 88th class.”
Probably someone mentioned it before but only now I realised that I don’t know of 8 being lucky but I do of it looking “eternal”, infinity rotated 90 degrees. Probably that’s why he’s the #8 of the 88th class.

  7. To be honest, I don’t believe that 8 is lucky at all. 😂

I just wrote that because somebody here mentioned that 8 was a lucky # . I just went along with it. What do I know really? I’m not Asian 🙂so I don’t know what their superstitions about numbers are.

  8. I hope they will offer Microsoft Office with the DVD box set.

@WEnchanteur – OMG, was drinking coffee when I saw this and I almost spilled it.

@packmule3 – actually my daughter thought I working on a project cost I have a couple of excel files opened – e.g. frozen time progression with prime numbers

But she got wind of the truth with the above table cos of all the Korean names — BUSTED!!! She was speechless, haha

  9. @mychoiyoung thank you for your excellent work. Also your daughter 🙊 mine is much too young but it’d be wonderful to share drama obsession with her one day.

@pm3 must be getting tired of hearing how brilliant her work is. But I don’t know how else to describe it. I totally missed the driver as the bookstore keeper! I did notice the original traitor though in the scar show in EP 12 and was very confused.

@WEnchanture I find your comments so original 😅 I want to go through your meme set but as I mentioned elsewhere on the blog, I have the management skills of a carrot. I’ll do so ASAP for a carrot (in another year or so).

Also, I must admit, this blog is teaching me (amongst many other things including maths now!) that no amount of attention is “enough attention”. And that is an indispensable skill in research. Look for what does NOT meet the eye !

  10. @mychoiyoung top-notch!

@WEnchanteur hahaha good one! And while we’re a it, it should include a link to this blog, too.

  11. 8 is considered the luckiest number in Chinese culture. 8 is lucky as well because its pronunciation is similar to that of the word “fa” the pronunciation of “eight” is close to that of the phrase meaning “to make a fortune”.

1988 is The year of the Dragon in Chinese zodiac. Since Lee Gon came from the long lines of Kings. It is believed that the king poses the sign of the the dragon dating back to the early Chinese royal dynasty to the Korean royal dynasty the kings sign is always the dragon.

  12. @Airishi,
I’m not sure what you’re saying because you’re using English colloquialisms. I guess you need the link for the memes. I put that on my blog because it was more convenient to read than pinterest.

  13. Growing Beautifully (GB)

@WEnchanteur, thanks for the link. Got to look at all your memes which I enjoyed almost as much as this show!

My faves are 04 and 12. Now I’m looking out for aliens and cyborgs, just in case!!! No matter how I keep my eyes peeled, there are still things I miss. 😖 😩 I know exactly what you mean about the bugs that crop up when an app is enhanced … upgraded, we call it … no matter how we test, can’t seem to catch them all (unlike the Pokemon! 😂 )

  14. @WEnchanteur – OhMyGah – so you’re the one doing those memes. Thank you, thank you. So funny!

  15. @packmule3, Lee Gon and his Senior Seventh Rank Official Lady Maximus arrived in ROK on 2019 Sept 30. I’ll email you what I’ve done of a timeline starting from ep. 1. I think I got through ep. 6. I stopped that project to compile character info. I can’t do both because they’re so time and labor intensive.

  16. Awww. You guys/gals. Almost make me sorry that I stopped in Ep4(?). Should’ve just powered on. But I had already just finished one time travel drama when TKEM started and that did my head in so I wasn’t in the mood for another.

@mychoiyoung high five 🖐. When you’re busted by family. Daughter dear rolled her eyes at me when I told her my frantic typing was in reply to fan girls at another site where I was embroiled in a fan war paddling a minor ship. Then she merrily showed me the VLive of her Kpop bias and squealed something about him being “such a meme” (apparently it’s a good thing in teen speak 😂). And I just laughed at the irony.

  17. @packmule3 – can we update the chart. I saw a misspelling. Can we use this instead https://i.imgur.com/Lq4gQuD.png

  18. Cos it belongs here, reposting here my full comment accompanying the excel table from the previous thread —

So far it is shaping up that the scar appears on people who

    1. Have crossed the portal
    2. Have doppelgangers who got murdered — not just died of natural causes.

I don’t consider the scar though as punishment. It is all about balance. As the Yoyo Kid said “I am trying to restore balance”

Murder is against nature cos it s not yet time for the murdered doppelganger to leave their world. That’s why there is an imbalance And the scar is a consequence or manifested warning of such imbalance.

Then we should also not forget the other condition — they have crossed-over or are still crossing-over. Which means they are or have been in worlds or spaces where they do not belong. There is already an imbalance in both worlds and then we have characters “abusing” the use of the flute – a broken one at that.

Perhaps there is a need to restore the flute, not just to close the gates. Perhaps there is a higher reason why the flute only shows itself every 20 years. Perhaps it was never meant to be used arbitrarily. Some rules must be kept.

Imbalance & abuse, that’s what am thinking now but still studying it. LOL, I even created an excel table to establish the pattern. This show, haha.

  19. From Epi 13 thread, am reposting my current stand about the scar analysis

    https://i.imgur.com/7p72Zl7.png

@packmule3 – so sorry about that plagiarist that you have to lock the screen to make it hard for her to copy-paste. But she can continue to do so by doing a screen-cap, like what I did here. Again, i feel bad about your troubles with her. Have you talked to her and has she responded?

  20. Wow you really stepped up Mycholyong
Data Analysis and Spreadsheet.Impressive… This is a deed of good merit. A true public service. Thank you
